I love this store and find their merchandise to be beautifully displayed and nicely curated. Their selection changes frequently, so you just have to pop in regularly. If you find something you want, you probably should get it quickly, because chances are high it will be gone if you do not nab it. Like Miss Pixie's, this place has super high turnover of merchandise. I have had good experiences with their customer service--I found the owners and employees to be helpful and informative. Not gushy and super warm, but great. I love their aesthetic, and find their prices to be very reasonable. Their store enriches this city--multiple cool little enclaves of superior finds is what makes city living rewarding. Awesome store! Recently bought a dresser from here. I went in earlier this month and talked to one of the workers. She told me that they get new furniture often, and so if nothing caught my eye, I should come back. A week later I went back and she was right! I found a dresser I really liked. Shipping is a flat rate, which is a HUGE perk. I live in a row house and so moving furniture isn't always easy. The guys brought it over the SAME day! And the movers were great guys! Also, they move on weekends and give you a couple hour time line. This is huge. I also shopped at Miss Pixie's. If you have a choice, come to GoodWood. GoodWood has long been one of my favorite stores in the District, but after my most recent experience, I won't be returning. I was interested in a large ceramic piece with that didn't have a price tag, so I started to take it to the counter to ask for a price. The woman on staff immediately walked over to me, aggressively snatched it from my hands and said, "That's NOT for sale." She reprimanded me as if I were a child. The whole experience was so uncomfortable. Another customer even came over to acknowledge how odd it was and tell me he was planning to pick up the piece if I hadn't. As I purchased other items on my way out (in retrospect, I wish I hadn't spent a dime), she wouldn't even make eye contact; she seemed *so* bothered that I was still in her presence. If you're going to run an antique store with random items for sale all over the shop, why on earth would you have pieces sitting next to them that aren't for sale (or aren't marked to indicate as much)? Especially items you don't want people to touch or assume they can buy? read more

Good Wood is a great furniture store. They have a great variety of unique pieces. If you think about it, the prices are pretty reasonable - mid-line new furniture bought at a furniture store or department store often costs more and doesn't always last long. The furniture they sell at Good Wood is of decent quality. The folks that work there are always friendly, yet let you browse without hovering. read more

GoodWood has changed, not for the better, in the last few years. My sense is they needed quick dependable income. So they have filled the store with completely unnecessary "grab and go" items to make suburbanites think they are cool. The store is very cluttered and has lost its original charm. What was once inspirational, where you could envision a piece in your home, is now too busy. Like others, I have bought a few expensive pieces, however the owners never acknowledge me and are actually quite rude, especially the woman. Whenever in the neighborhood I do stop in with the hopes there will be an amazing piece, but it seems those days are long gone. read more

Fighting the world of furniture that comes in a box with a tomb of instructions and a bag of screws is GoodWood. A store that reminds me of what is good, worn, lived, loved, and treasured objects passed down -- and sometimes re-purposed, for use today. The owner has an amazing eye and as a result the store has a cult following. What's there is always changing. So if your standing outside peering in the window and see the chair of your dreams, if you don't buy it then, it's will run off. I'm so glad I was introduced to GoodWood, it's a find. read more

Went here to look for new side tables a few months ago. They have a pretty cool selection of furniture ranging in style from really classic pieces to newer more modern stuff. The prices were lower than I thought they would be and the staff was friendly and helpful. Didn't end up getting anything but would definitely go back next time I am looking. read more

The place is a MUST see. I'll say that. It is a lovely store that certainly appeals to the hipsters, or those that love antique furniture and accessories. It's certainly interesting to look at and peruse around the store and find unique items. This is my favorite store to peruse on U Street. They've got great antique and vintage pieces that don't necessarily remind you of your grandmother's house. It's nice because some antique shops can be a little too jam-packed and therefore overwhelming. This has just enough items that you can see and enjoy a piece a furniture. I live in a condo with an open floor plan and exposed brick walls. First thought was to do a modern country feel but after pinning a few looks went with the industrial raw feel. There are plenty of sites that sell everything from industrial racks to beautiful walnut tables but the shipping cost was insane. Did some yelp searching and found a few places including goodwood. I visit weekly just to peruse but find I leave with something every time (perfume, bar of soap, table). I don't know that I have anymore space left but I'll continue to visit weekly. read more

This place is super cool. From furniture to clothes to candles and knickknacks- there is a pretty wide variety of stuff to find here. I've walked past this place a million times and decided to go in one day- I was pretty surprised! And the smell of this place was divine - like sinking into an old leather chair with your favorite book on a rainy day. I would give 3.5 stars if I could, because three is too low and four is too high. It's worth putting on your visit list when you are looking for a table,chest, or something unique. My lower star rating is because the prices do not match the product. A lot of what I see resembles much of what I saw in local stores where I grew up in New Jersey. It almost seems like the DC farmers market pricing, where farm produce is marked up substantially here versus what we would find out in the country at the local market. It's not on my visit list, but it's worth checking out once to see if it is your taste. read more

I went there for the first time last week hoping to see some items they had displayed on their website. There were some interesting things there, but not what was looking for. I completely agree with 'Allison S.' on the fact that 1) the clothing and other knick knacks are distracting and really not necessary. I can get clothes anywhere. If you sell great vintage furniture, you should sell just that. 2) The sales guy was completely interested in his friend and was not at all interested in providing customer service. Definitely one of the best places in DC. Quality antique and vintage furniture. I've recently started splitting my time between LA & DC, I can say LA doesn't have a place as unique as this. Their selection is a mix of time periods in good to excellent conditions. I bought two hand enameled vintage brooches. Owners Anna & Daniel Kahoe informed me that they add new merchandise weekly. I'd say prices are a tad bit high but if buying multiple pieces there may be some leeway in pricing, but I wouldn't insult them. They know what they have. read more

I found GoodWood today on Yelp and needed a desk for my house. I'm new to the area from LA, so I decided to walk from Georgetown to get to know the city a little better. Not only was it an easy and scenic walk, but the PERFECT desk was right in the front of the store as I walked in! Great price and they deliver on Sundays ($45 in DC)! I'm thrilled! I love browsing in this shop and recently purchased a nice piece, which I now use as a bar. They are a little pricey, but since I'd had my eye on the piece for a while I was able to negotiate the price down to what I felt was a bit more fair (especially considering some of the damage on the item). Nice, unique items of good quality. My only complaint is that the owners don't seem to be very interested in helping you find anything... which can be good or bad...
