We had a linear cabinet delivered over a month ago. The hardware for the cabinet doors was missing. So the installers were not able to install the doors. They are still sitting on the floor. Room and board said they would send out an installer to install the doors. However , nothing has been done and it's going on five weeks now. He followed up with us via phone call early the next day to let us know about our sectional coming early. Had a horrible experience with a delivery team from the Washington, D.C. store today. I am the manager of a condo building in Arlington, Virginia, where a two-man team was scheduled to deliver to one of our condo owners. All of the deliveries to the building must go through the loading dock. The delivery team pulled up in front of the building blocking the entrance to the residential garage. When I approached the team to move their truck as residents could not enter the garage, they refused to move their truck back a few until several cars were backed up in front of the building. They were asked and instructed to pull into the loading dock to deliver the materials. They refused to move their truck, then one of the drivers became very angry and very aggressive and jumped up in my face and threatened me with physical harm. I'm sure you don't want someone representing your company acting like this and threating people with physical. The driving team should be fired immediately. read more

We had the BEST EXPERIENCE with Room and Board. Our family was on the hunt for new seating for our living room. We looked at a few places - pottery barn, crate and barrel, west elm, restoration hardware - and ultimately settled with room and board because of the high quality selection, amazing service, and complimentary design support. Our first step was booking a virtual design consultation - we worked with Christopher Nutter, who was so helpful from our first consultation through purchase. We were able to book a session for the next day through the online portal, and spent about an hour going through our requirements and potential options. We ended up with a list of things to try, and booked an in person consultation for the next day. Our in person consultation was great and felt quite safe in COVID times. There weren't many people in the store, and there was a station with masks and sanitizer set up. Christopher knew exactly what we had on our list of options, and took us throughout the store to test them out. Once we made our selection, he helped us choose the right fabric for our needs and sent us home with swatches and our customized items ready to go in our online shopping cart. I loved that the designers aren't on commission, so I never felt any pressure to purchase or make a decision on the spot. @Christopher, if you are reading this, we DID end up going with the Ian in Tepic Haze, just like you predicted from the start! Thank you for your ability to listen to our needs, your clear understanding of design, your knowledge of available products, and of course your patience! We haven't gotten our pieces yet, but are so excited to see them in a few months (the custom items can take a bit longer). Almost everything in my living room is from Room & Board. After having compared several different furniture stores, I found that they really matched my style the best and certainly provided a better experience and quality than West Elm. A few highlights: -I appreciate that the store is laid out logically so that you can find furniture groupings, but that there are also "rooms" on the side that show how different pieces can come together. -They have a nice array of different fabrics and materials--for the tops of end tables, for instance. I firmly believe you should see them in person because I saw one table topper that I thought I liked online, and when I saw it in person, I realized it was a lot less lustrous (and collected fingerprints easily!) and I ended up going with black granite instead. -The designers, especially Daren, are excellent. I had specific pieces in mind that I needed, along with inspiration colors, and Daren made quick work of helping me find just what I was looking for. When I was deciding between rugs, he even gave opinions on the rugs that I was looking at from shops other than Room & Board. It all came together so nicely, and I never for a moment felt pressured to buy anything. -Also AMAZING is that no matter how many furniture pieces you order, they will deliver AND assemble and place them for you for one $99 fee. Honestly, this was the first thing that took me to Room & Board to begin with. Assembling furniture is 100% not my area of gifting and I would have hired someone, but it all came as part of the package here. -The one odd thing, which isn't Room & Board's fault, was with my furniture delivery. Delivery was planned, delayed once (before COVID became an issue--this was the delay I was kind of annoyed by), then confirmed, then canceled the day before it was scheduled to be delivered, and then delivered two months later. I almost canceled my order, mainly because I was afraid they might end up shutting down and I might end up without furniture, but that turned out to not be necessary. The delivery team was really good about wearing masks, keeping distance, cleanliness, not bumping against corners, etc. when they delivered my furniture. Room & Board is so big that I got over half of my daily Fitbit steps in during one visit. With sunlight pouring into their floor to ceiling windows on every floor and the clean, modern aesthetic it is hard not to fall a sense of calmness in your body when entering this store. My Fitbit even noticed a decrease in heart rate while browsing around. Salespeople checked in on me at every point in the store -- but not in an annoying way. Just a friendly hello to see if I needed anything. I pretty much marveled over all of their layouts and design which was a mix of metal, wood, and other natural elements. Everything was sleek and went together in a beautifully modern way. I swear the dining sets were inviting me to sit down and have a bowl of cereal on them. The beds screamed, lay on me! Even the children's crib sets had a pull on my ovaries. Cus seriously, my baby would make all the other babies look like lame-os in their dual colored, American made crib. Which is another thing -- all of the items here are American made which is great because you are supporting the local economy. Interior designers working there are also extremely nice and professional. My husband and I were there for about 3 hours and Idla (i May have her name wrong) did not get frustrated at all. She was extremely polite and answered all of our questions, we had A LOT of questions. We will definitely be getting our sectional sofa from them next well. The service at Room & Board is exceptional. Valerie and Nora, especially, were super knowledgeable and enthusiastic about interior design. I was new to sofa-buying, and they gave great advice on the key factors to consider: arm height, stain resistance, color matching with the rest of my apartment, and how customizing materials would add to the cost. At the fabric rack on the 2nd floor, Nora showed me a bunch of options based on my taste and gave me five fabric samples to take home. Before I left the store, she asked me to email pics of my room to get a sense of what would work given the space constraints. This turned into an email chain on the merits of a sofa vs. chaise lounge and different fabric options. It's worth visiting Room & Board for design inspiration and advice, even if you're just browsing. They do have a rep for higher prices, but I thought the price for my new chaise lounge was reasonable compared to other storefront furniture places in the DC area. You can get sofas much cheaper online, for sure. But that comes without design advice, tons of customizable options, and the ability to test-drive sofas at the store. read more

Up until now, I was a big fan of Room and Board. I am not feeling so good about them at the moment though. I have a dining room table with a leaf from them which no longer stays together completely. I called and emailed pictures of the issue, and after quite a while was finally contacted by someone who was able to help. The part was probably lost during our recent move, so it is not their fault. However, given that I have spent over $25,000 on their furniture and rugs, I would have thought that they would send me the part at no cost. I have no choice but to pay the extra $100 plus on it, but I am disappointed and surprised that a high end company that prides itself on customer service would charge me for the part. I have recommended this company to family and friends, but in the future I am not sure that I will, and I am no longer so eager to order from them for myself. read more

Beautiful furniture, albeit very pricey. Delivery was a huge hassle. They were a week late and we were told after the fact that something that we ordered would be in for 6 weeks. Additionally, they did not share their delivery policy. When we ordered furniture we were told that as long as someone signed for it, they would deliver it. When the movers arrived they called to tell us that they could not enter our apartment without my roommate or I there. This caused me to have to leave work. The furniture is great, but fhe price you pay out of pocket and from the hassle of dealing with their poor communication makes it not worth it. read more

I used to browse Room and Board in Chicago quite often when I lived there. I really love their aesthetic and think they deliver it at a very reasonable price (especially for DC). The space they have acquired to show off their collection in DC is phenomenal. I often feel cramped when I visit a lot of stores in DC, but not here. The four large floors of wide open spaces and friendly staff make it a very pleasant shopping experience. I want to linger and look at everything. Today I brought my friend with me to the DC store. He is making a life transition that will soon leave him single and without furniture. I recommended that he start here with some basic quality pieces. Eilleen was very helpful in helping my friend find something that would suit him well and be within his budget. My friend later thanked me for pressing for him to come here and not letting him settle for interim Ikea furniture. Unlike a lot of quality furniture places you can get at least some pieces pretty quickly from room and board. Also the $79.00 a truck load local delivery fee is very reasonable. Obnoxious staff, the store has a mandate to only wear CDC recommended masks, yet they don't post and only let you know when their employees can scold you after you've been in the store for half an hour. Though we were wearing gaiters which was two layers. The masks they offer are surgical masks which CDC guidance says should NOT be used as face coverings. The CDC guidance says masks should be two layers yet the store mafia is not checking how many layers everyone's mask is. We are always very conscious about the Covid situation. We have spent a lot of money in this store. Never again as we will be shopping at Arhaus from now on. read more

We furnished our condo with R&B furniture last year and couldn't have hoped for a better experience. We were assisted by a very knowledgeable and friendly sales associate named Ann, who didn't hesitate to offer her opinion. She told us the table we had selected, for instance, would clash with our mid century modern theme. She helped us customize a table that we didn't even know about, and we're very pleased with it to this day. Because their sales associates do not work on commission, there was no pressure to buy anything, and Ann never tried to up-sell us. As for their furniture, it's overwhelmingly US made. The website will tell you exactly where each piece comes from. Some of their inventory is of the styles you can find at a chain like Crate, but others, especially their mid century modern, are more unique. Several months after the purchase, we noticed that one of the chaise legs was damaged. R&B promptly sent a contractor to repair it. No hassle involved. I encourage you to visit this location even if you are not looking to purchase. Their beautiful furniture is candy for the eyes. read more

General Comments: First, our sales guy was exceptionally affable and helpful...willing to go way beyond the usual to show us various styles, fabrics and options, and generous with good advice. Second, this particular sleep-sofa is the most comfortable by far we've ever seen. It's great as a sofa; it's sensational as a bed. It looks fine, repels dirt and stains and is generally perfect. The process for opening and closing is a snap. There are none of the metal parts and springs in traditional convertible sofas. The mattress is of memory foam: super comfortable. The ONLY flaw (and it's both minimal and unavoidable given aspects of the super-creative design that are important to other unique strengths that make this sofa quantum leaps better than the rest) is that it can be tough to tuck sheets in, especially at the "foot" end of the mattress. Service/Delivery Comments: This is where Room & Board REALLY shone. To get the sofa into the room where we wanted it, the delivery team had to twist the whole thing on its end around two very tight corners. Three initial attempts to manage it proved unavailing, so the team unwrapped all the plastic and buffering around the sofa, then step-by-step as successive attempts didn't work, dismantled pieces of the sofa until they could get it through (clearance by less than 1/16") while holding the entire thing in midair. If delivery were an Olympic sport, these guys would have come home with the gold. I offered them a celebratory drink, but they said they never indulged on the job. :) read more

I was told on the phone by the agent scheduling my furniture delivery that I could buzz the delivery team into my home remotely while I was at work. I was told this is "Common practice and happens all the time." The next morning, a different person contacted me to explain that "company policy forbids this and the delivery will have to be rescheduled." Poor communication is the best way to lose business. The furniture looks fine and is only slightly over priced. I don't recommend shopping here if you have a busy schedule and need to work with a company that communicates clearly. I have wasted time and had to reschedule a whole day's worth of activities due to this merchant's failure to communicate. FAIL. read more

This was my first time at a Room & Board. Upon entering, there was bottled water & coffee carafes so that you can be well energized and hydrated as you browse through the four-level store. We came in looking for beds, but the beds were scattered throughout the four levels so you get an idea of different feels/layouts of interior decorating. The staff there are ready to help, and many offered to help each level we ascended. They have custom-made dining tables which were really nice (you pick the glass top and the wooden legs) and custom frames with different fabrics. Like others said, the stuff is not cheap, but there wasn't a piece I didn't love. Everything is so modern and sophisticated. The items are crafted by "American artisans" so a chair is $300 up, dining tables at $3,000 up, and beds $2,000 up. So you brace yourself, fueling up on meatballs to start off your epic journey, and finish off with some ice cream at the checkout, feeling worn out and dreading the assembly process when you get home. That's not how it goes at Room & Board. Their $89 shipping goes to locations within 100 miles of their showroom and they'll assemble for you. If you have items in your order that are in stock as well as custom ones, they can deliver the in stock items to you first for the $89 shipping fee, and the custom items delivered when they are ready, at $49. Four levels, pimped out with sofas, chairs, rugs, tables, beds - essentially all the big ticket items you'll be looking for when furnishing your house. The store isn't set up so that you will see all the sofas on one level, all the tables on another level - rather, different types of rooms seamlessly coexist adjacent to one another to provide you with a variation of ideas to look at. I find this to experience to be much better when it comes to furniture shopping because it's much less overwhelming. It can get pretty crazy and hectic in there on the weekends, but I recommend to be patient and wait for an associate to help you out, especially if you have a custom order to put in. read more

The main reason I bought here was because the furniture is solid wood (at least most pieces are). Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, West Elm and most other trendy places are engineered wood with veneers. In case you are not reading between the lines - engineered wood is sawdust, wood scraps and glue. It's crap. It does not hold up and if you ding it, the veneer will shatter like glass. Room & Board is solid and will last forever. Most of their stuff from what I could tell is made in America, which is an added bonus. I had some trouble getting waited on in the store, as the sales team all seemed to either be occupied with other customers or outright ignoring me. I went through the store top to bottom twice on seperate weekends and was not waited on once. Instead I picked out what I wanted and bought it via the 1-800 #. The store layout is great and the website is easy to browse. The prices are a little higher than I was wanting to pay, but the quality is exceptional and that's what sold me. Everything does seem to take 2-4 weeks to get delivered to your place, so build that in to your expectations. read more

Ok so I've been looking for a sofa for about 3 months now...online, from dealers in other states, you name it. After browsing over at Vastu I come across Room and Board. I'm new to the area and had heard of it, but knew little about it. All I can say is not only to they have a great selection of furniture here in different price ranges, but the service was AWESOME. Didn't wait 30 minutes for someone to say hello or get the stare-down like I may not be able to afford anything. And to top it off I found my perfect sofa. I highly recommend this place and would also recommend asking for Scott who helped me. He was genuinely interested in what I was looking for and a nice person in general to work with. Wandered by on my way to England vs. U.S. and it happened to be their grand opening. Looked like everyone there (a lot of people) had been looking forward to the opening as much as I had been looking forward to the soccer. Not me, I had never heard of them so initially I went in just for the air conditioning and free food on offer at the grand opening celebration. But I soon realized I had wandered into a home decorator's mecca. Really nice mid range furniture (way nicer and more expensive than Ikea, much cheaper - probably - than "designer" galleries.) I don't know because I was too busy checking out the design of the store to price anything seriously. Plus I'm bound to move in the next 18 months so why load up now? But if I were going to load up and had the cash I could see outfitting an entire house or apartment at Room and Board. Okay so I did see one extremely nice desk chair for $800 but everyone needs lumbar support, right? I mean it's only $80 a month for 10 months... Plus it IS a business expense since I work from home... Okay so that's the kind of store this is. They have really nice stuff, priced higher than you would like but not so high that you can't conceive of actually owning it some day. The best thing about Room and Board is they have an outdoor deck on the fourth floor to display their outdoor furniture. But no one says you actually have to be buying furniture in order to sit in a lounge chair and enjoy the view! (As for that deal-breaker parking -- I am told they have an arrangement with a private lot nearby where you can park for free. So now you have no excuse not to check it out!) read more

Room & Board is a hipster spot on 14th street for browsing and collecting gorgeous yet practical furniture. Nearby you can stop for lunch or drinks/coffee, stroll in anytime without an appointment. Staff is friendly but not overtly in your face. You are allowed to browse the two floors of goodness, and we were welcomed to preview the patio furniture aside the "under-construction" displays not yet furnished. When we asked a question, we were given honest referrals and answers. The quality of pieces checks out, as a friend has purchased a sturdy bed from this location that hasn't yet crumbled by the shaking and bouncing it has seen. Room & Board uses a lot of natural elements: wood, colors of grey, tan, textured fabrics, with an architectural design that is simple, modern and cozy at the same time. It is more quality and style than Ikea, sophisticated but not as pricey as Crate and Barrel. I recommend this spot ;) read more
