I had an oil change performed at Goodyear Auto Service in Hilo. In addition, I also had the service department investigate what is causing a "knocking" noise coming from under my hood after having had the car serviced at a different establishment. They performed this service free of charge and spent quite a bit of time doing so. The Hawai'i District Team Leader, Clayton, even took it upon himself to come with me for a test drive to check out the problem. He then personally wrote up a detailed report for me to take back to the other shop to verify my concerns and the possible causes. I couldn't ask for better service than that! I was in a pickle. Da kine of pickle where the engine oil warning light starts flickering like a 911 call. So, I called Goodyear on Kilauea and spoke with one of their crew. I told them my situation. I needed to have Goldilocks back ASAP so I could get back to work the next day. Dude calmed me down telling me to bring in the car first thing, leave it for the day, and they would find a slot to get me into the rotation. This ended up working well since I got to spend an afternoon wandering around downtown Hilo exploring the local shops and vibes. A few hours later, I got the phone call the car was ready and I'd be back on the road again cruising into work. The price was fair but the service was even better than I expected. I made an appointment online to get 4 tires put in for the next day. They were cheaper than lex brodies and Midas. Soon after, I got a voicemail from Jon about not having the tires available. But he had a solution that would make it cheaper. I called back and spoke to the manager Clayton and he already knew about my dilemma. At the time they had a promotion which made it $100 cheaper and with better tires. They even said to come in that day rather than the next day when my appointment was originally set for. They were quick in response, provided solutions, very communicative with each other and friendly. The wait was long, but we just enjoyed walking down to the market, had lunch at the park and made use of our time. I ordered a tire online and had an 0800hr appointment. It took them 3 hours to remove the spare, put on the tire I ordered, and do a wheel alignment. In spite of my appointment they didn't start until 0835hrs. I received no updates on the work progress. Goodyear counter guy didn't even explain the tire warranty. My first time with this store, they put 4 tires on my Lexus GX. The experience was first rate. I was alerted by one of their female CS folks that the tires I selected would not be available, so they recommended a less expensive tire - which I appreciated. When I arrived, I couldn't resist walking towards the garage where there was a clearly marked chain keeping customers away - but the guy working on my SUV dropped what he was doing to come over and chat for a minute - local island style, friendly and informative. Then John wrote up my order at the promised time and treated me like a king. And then I drove home to Waimea and the tires were obviously perfectly balanced. I'm a performance driver, so I am picky. I have never went to get my oil change before in my life because with the car I used to drive, all I had to do is to take it to the dealer and they did everything for me with no charge. Now that I have downgraded in Hilo, I actually do need to pay for oil change and its very cumbersome. I didnt know where to take it but I was browsing online and found this place. It was very easy to make an appointment online with the date I wanted to bring in. I didnt have to wait weeks to bring my car so that was nice. I also checked to get free alignment along with the oil change. I took my car the next day. I went in about 30 minutes earlier than my appointment time but they were nice enough to take my car in early. Everything went smoothly with the paperwork and I sat down in the waiting area. An hour passed by, another hour and one more. I was furious. I never knew oil change can take this long! Even at the dealers, oil change + maintenance check didnt take this long! I went up to the counter and asked when my car will be ready. He said he will check. Shortly after he came back and said it will take another 15 minutes. Are you kidding? Also, he added that getting that free alignment will take another hour or two. I was speechless. I know this is Hawaii and there is a saying called 'Hawaii Time' but seriously? I told them I didnt need the alignment and asked for my car to be ready ASAP. I dont know if its just this place thats slow or everywhere else is slow too. I couldnt believe I spent more than 3 hours waiting for my car during the busiest week of this semester. I guess I was a fool for thinking Ill be in and out of this place within an hour. WARNING TO ALL!! DO NOT COME HERE!! I originally came for an alignment, and waited three hours with some homeless guy in the waiting area. I originally was promised a wait time of 30-45 minutes, but because another car ahead of mine gave the mechanics a "hard time" there was a 3 hour wait. Who knew?! Nobody had advised me anything during the duration I had waited, until I overheard another customer snapping. To top it off, I get in my car after 3 hours and the steering wheel isn't even aligned! They don't sell the tires for my vehicle so I had to bring mine to get installed. They punctured my tire and my beads popped on high quality off road tires. They accused my wife of off roading the vehicle and the dude Ben, decided to man-splain to my wife about tires and driving. The mechanics intentionally messed up my instal and purposefully did a poor job thinking we are idiots. Well, I am an idiot for thinking every Goodyear is good. This place will rip you off. We took our truck in to get the tire mounted and aligned. 2 months later the valve stem bursted out of the back driver side tire. So we took it in to get fixed. They charged us to fix it. When they were done fixing the tire they called to say that they broke one lug nut and will charge us 400 dollars to fix it even though it was their fault. Today, 6 months later, the valve blew again so we called them to let them know and they stated that since it keeps coming off that it is a big issue and they will have to make another hole and weld the old valve hole shut. Therefore, we went to Firestone because I am done with GoodYear and they stated that GoodYear should have put a high pressure valve not low pressure. While looking at the other tires, they all have different valves. Just a heads up, go elsewhere. They will waste your time and money. I wish I could rate it a 0. read more

If I could give below a one star I would. Came in and made an appointment on a Friday for the next Tuesday at 11am. Was there on time, and for the second time we told them the problem with our vehicle. Check in time: 20 minutes (crazy...they took down no information from the previous Friday). Said they would be back to us in an hour, but 2.5 hours passed so we called, and got the "we'll start when the mechanic gets back from lunch" bs and how the morning work had carried over. Couple hours later no call, so we called again, and said they could not find a problem. We ended up coming back and taking the vehicle, after a 72 dollar diagnostic charge (Goodyear policy you know...). No comments, no thank you, no nothing...set the key on the counter. Short story gone long, sorry. At the end of the day, we got recommended a local mechanic who found the problem within an hour and had us out the door within 3 hours. Don't go to a corporate repair shop, even if locally owned franchise, they don't have the staff nor the skills to get the job done. Definitely pass on by Goodyear (as many others have commented), not sure how they stay in business actually. read more

There are a lot of negative reviews so I'm really glad my experience was so great here. Had tires put on my truck and they honored a price of the tires I got before. Always a bonus! But the main reason I'm leaving 5 stars is how Ben and Danielle have gone above and beyond. I needed my tire pressure checked on a vehicle that I didn't even have serviced here and just a few mins before closing Ben really helped out with that, at no charge. i was very hesitant to take my car to goodyear, because i know what their prices and "craftsmanship" looks like. last time i went to goodyear they tried to charge me 2k for an alignment and wheel rotation. took my keys and walked out of there. i should have trusted my gut... this company does not care. price was outrageous. 300+ for a single tire. lady at the front told me thats the only tire they get. just sucked it up and paid the price. i needed to get to work. they put a tire on that was THREE SIZES LARGER than my other tires. ive taken my car to other large name companies (firestone), and it wasnt this expensive. car got another flat due to roadwork. tried to take my tire off, and patch em. no can. why? my lug nuts were cross threaded. so, i took my car to k and j tires. they told me my wheel size was larger than my others. wheel will fuck with my transfer case if i aint crawling while off roading. great. just excellent. who puts a sports tire on a 4x4 vehicle? goodyear does ! goodyear is a great place, if you like getting ripped off by little thieves wont EVER go back, even if its one of the only places open on sunday. read more

8/2021 - Wife had a flat, we called AAA but they could not remove tire because of a frozen lug nut. Had car towed to Goodyear, they tried to remove bolt but could not at the time, we needed to leave the car until mechanic gets back in a couple of days. They said they may have to burn off the bolt. The mechanic gets back and they were able to get the bolt off, for $300! Since this is AWD vehicle and the flat tire was too damaged to repair we needed to replace all 4 tires. I ordered tires (online) and had Goodyear replace all tires. 4/2022 - Needed a brake job took it to goodyear and received a quote of $3,000, which I just could not afford at the time so I decided to do the job myself. Taking the tires off I find a frozen lug nut! I was beside myself that on a car that goodyear charged me $300 to remove a frozen lug nut I find they have either cross threaded or way over tightened a lug nut. I go down to goodyear and they do not want to take responsibility, no one has touched this car since they replaced the 4 tires, they set me up with an appointment in a couple of days, mechanic is out again, and we can "talk" about it then. So I go home and google frozen lug nut, within 5 minutes I find out what I need to do to remove a frozen lug nut, 5 minutes later I got the lug nut off. When I went around the car removing the other tires, there was another tire that had a frozen lug nut, aaargh, which I was able to remove in minutes! This is plain incompetence, these guys do not know how to install a tire properly, and they did not have the knowledge to efficiently remove a frozen lug nut. There invoice did not show how many hours it took to remove the 1st lug nut in 8/2021 but labor was $252.00. read more

My wife called to have a single tire replaced, they told her that they were fully booked and couldn't do it, she has called previously to have other repairs done which they have denied her and said they don't do services like checking and changing fluids or doing a tire rotation, when I called they tried to tell me no, when I got angry and yelled they said they had a time available, "Ben was the one I spoke to" So moral is if you want your wife's to be able to get service call for them" read more

I have purchased 4 new tires from here before and it was great. The staff is very nice and helpful. The first time I purchased tires they got it done in an hour to hour and a half. This time we dropped the car off a half hour earlier than our appointment at 9 am and told them we would be back to pick up the car at 11:30. When I arrived the vehicle had not been touched sitting in the same spot I left it. Was told it was going to be another 1 hr. after I arrived. It took them 4.5 hrs to put tires on my vehicle. Goodyear in Hilo has the most knowledgeable, skilled, and friendly folks - brought my car in for a 'squeak/click' noise - within minutes it was determined that universal joints were in need of help; it was also determined that all rotors on brakes were rusted and grooved - had the brake pads changed 3 year, but did not know the rotors should also have been changed - all work was completed before the estimated time to complete - am so thankful to have it all done in one day - and such kind and pleasant folks - Moani, Charles and Clayton. My first and only experience at Goodyear was awesome. I was fed up with Midas across the street, so I decided to give Goodyear a try, especially after seeing a Tuesday through Thursday oil change special online. I made a reservation online and got a price quote for $23 TOTAL for my oil change and tire rotation. After waiting for about an hour and a half, this was the exact amount I paid, no hidden fees or surcharges. I was also informed that without the special, it would only be 3 or 4 bucks more for an oil change, which is still over $10 what I was paying at Midas for their shady service. After a free vehicle inspection, they also didn't come back with all these shady random things I need to fix with my car like other automotive places do. Also, Goodyear has a nice lounge with free Wi-Fi! So, instead of staying at Starbucks like I normally do, I just stayed at Goodyear. I hope to go back again and have the same great no hassle experience. read more

Took my '02 Toyota Corolla here for a safety inspection. I gave them two stars because one of the reasons for failure was reasonable the other wasn't. First reason was missing battery tie down. Perfectly legitimate and I would have gladly paid to have a battery tie down installed. The second reason for failure was and I quote the guy behind the desk "your inner tie rods are a little worn and there's some play in the steering wheel." Needless to say i was quite taken back at the pile of bullshit i was being fed. The car drives perfect and passed with flying colors just last year as it has every year before that. But all of a sudden this year, according to this technician, the tie rods on a 12 year old car need to be replaced. Hilarious. Not that it matters to the dishonest safety inspectors, but on the HI DMV website it clearly states components that are damaged or missing will most likely fail. For instance like a missing battery tie down! Or perhaps a missing brake light, cracked windshield etc. The point is, I got unlucky that I got an inspector that was abusing his discretionary powers to try and make some extra money for his shop (or himself), either that or was just having a bad day, who knows. I got the battery tie down installed somewhere else and went to another inspection station and what do ya know, it passed. Its sad that this nationally recognized brand name is perpetuating the popular idea that mechanics are untrustworthy. Unfortunately this is a perfect example. I do not appreciate their attempt at scamming me. read more

I used to be a faithful Goodyear customer however as of recently their service has been lacking. I love a $20 oil change however the prices they charge for other services are completely ridiculous. Additionally, some of the staff have some trouble multi-tasking particularly typing on a computer and speaking at the same time. Maybe the "technologies" of the "Googles" are just too mind-boggling for some, hey we're from different generations so ok, I get it. Anyway, long story short: they changed my brakes, now it obnoxiously squeals whenever I stop. It sounds like I'm running over a litter of kittens each time I put my foot on the brake pedal!! Goodyear "repositioned" and "cleaned" them numerous times and after 2 years they finally tell me it's my driving habits that cause the problem. Funny, I've never had a "brake-squeal" problem before they touched my brakes. Ok, I admit at times I may FLY it down Kanoelehua but eh who doesn't? But seriously, I know how to gradually apply pressure to a brake pedal. read more

I am sitting at the shop as I write this. I brought the car down for new tires. I dropped it off at 1230 and was told an hour or so I said ok and waited an hour and a half before coming back. Well my car had not been touched. They then said they are behind so 45 minutes more. That was 20 minutes ago. They just started. I will update this review. I have to say that Clayton is very nice and I'm patient but this is a bit too much. So now it's 315 and my car is still being worked on hmmm. 3 hour wait with an appointment. They really should have called or texted me so I would have been able to say yay or nay on a three hour and counting wait. Bad bad business. Spoke to the manager and he adjusted the cost. No problem to schedule. I had a radiator flush and a power steering flush done on a 1992 Jeep. When I checked my car, the power steering fluid looked full and clean but the radiator looked as if it was not touched. The reserve fluid container was empty and when I checked the actual radiator I could not see any coolant/fluid. When I asked the tech he said " well I didn't do the service but it should have been done" and walked away. The service for both was $197.00. Took my car in for an oil change after they told me the day before when I went in that I wasn't scheduled that day only to return home and get a call from Ben saying that it was an error and I did have an appointment. He rescheduled me for the following morning and told me I would get an additional $10 off my service. I went the next day. I didn't get the coupon discount applied online, I didn't get the additional $10 off my service like Ben had said and my car was returned with damage to both my front driver and passenger rims. After it is all over they charge over $50 and then give you $10 off that when you get upset. Why didn't I read the review before going here. They have horrible customer service! I made an appointment for a safety check and to get my breaks checked. When I brought my car in, James, who was at the register, told me it would take 1 to 1.5 hours. After two hours had passed, I asked Colby, who was now standing at the register, how much longer it was going to be since they haven't even touched my car yet. He gave the excuse that they were short handed because someone called in sick. Four hours later, after asking them again how much longer it would be, I was told because I didn't have a receipt from my windshield getting fixed 5 years ago, they couldn't do my safety check.
