Smile-worthy stuff. It sets the scene for this modest eatery in the very un-Greek suburb of Hawthorn, in the very un-restaurant-like location of being attached to a Caltex. "Oils ain't oils" as they say, so if you want the good oil on this joint look toward it's picture board - a wall of photos capturing characters who have wined and dined and wined here before. It gives further insight into the humble and fun nature of the place. Smiling Chef Sam Antoniou is found in the kitchen with parents Toula and Peter. They all wield cheeky senses of humour, upping the enjoyment ante of your visit. Ultimately you've come for their food. The best way to tackle it in these family-type digs is to hoard some friends around an Astros banquet. The "Apollo" includes chicken yiros and calamari; adventure into the "Poseidon" and tiropites (cheese triangles), lamb yiros and whitebait await; or brace yourself for the "Zeus" and be further fortified with Greek sausages and prawns. There's a takeaway menu, outdoor tables and car parks at that Caltex. Plonk wise it's licensed but the corkage too is a little cheeky so perhaps play "when in Rome" or Greece as it were with the wine list and try some vino tipples from the homeland.

The setting is suburban to the max and. as Roz said it's very un-glamorously attached to a servo. In true Australian-Greek style, all the mains are served with chips and Pita which are delicious, but they very obligingly leave either, or both off for me if I ask . I suffer from the eat-everything-on-your-plate disease so I sometimes do this to save myself from mostrous serves. This means I'm left to tackle the chicken breast as big as my head and generous salad, which to be honest is probably more than I can handle in itself! They do a bunch of my Greek faves... whitebait, saganaki, meatballs, kalamari and a bunch of others as entrees or mezze. The mains boast every type of souvlaki or yiros, along with moussaka, mix grill, selection of fish, prawns, or even quail.

This is the first time I have visited these markets, I've been a member of the Willunga Farmers Market for a number of months now and having recently move closer to Adelaide needed to find my new organic fix. Not disappointed in the slightest. With a few more stalls then it's Willunga counterpart you are bound to fill your fridge in a jiffy. The veggies and fruit are outside and your meats and baked goods are kept cool undercover. The buzz is hectic with some stalls requiring a ten minute wait in a line. I admit I did not take up this waste of time as anywhere with a line does not deserve my time or attention. This is generally just my motto for pubs and clubs but if the line is too long then it's goodbye wait times. The produce in these stalls did appear nicer and more varied but this will be for testing in later visits. You can become a member for $65 which will get you a discount of 10%. The produce is already quite cheap as you have cut out the middle man who takes his cut at the shops so purchasing a membership will only make your experience even better and a few weekly buys and you've have recouped this money within a few months anyway.

Unassuming little gem in the upmarket inner southern suburb. We have frequented this family…read morerestaurant for the last 17 years. First impression of this place doesn't really make for a lasting one due to its outdated interior and fittings. There is little ambience, saved by the warm lighting. It is a very 'typical' Chinese restaurant with tacky decorations and scattered Chinese ornaments / pictures which doesn't flow well throughout the space. Interior aside, lets talk food. It is the primary reason for our repeated return. We come here for the seafood with the cheesy lobster dish being a favourite of ours. However, market price for lobster at the moment is around $170 per kg, so we gave that a miss tonight. Service is slow, so, if you can order well in advance, you should, especially for takeaways and traditional, highly prized dishes such as lobster, king crabs, mud crabs, Peking duck and drunken chicken. Tonight, we had the salt and pepper prawns (shell optional - why? who wants to eat the shell?), fried barramundi, Peking ribs, salted fish fried rice, chicken and jellyfish, pork belly in Dong-Po sauce, prawn balls with greens, seafood noodles and hot and sour soup as starters. Everything was lovely, wasn't a big fan of the ribs, because I found the sauce too heavy in sourness. Barramundi wasn't as well seasoned as it could be. Other than that, it was great! Everyone enjoyed the shared meals and pretty much rolled out of there. The place might be outdated, but the consistency of the food is why we return year after year. Price wise, I think it is very reasonable given the area it is located in. Highly recommended.

Only took 22 minutes for our meal (Keep in mind we ordered about half the menu, as I am trying Japanese for a trip in October 2024) at a peak time! When the food arrived, it smelled amazing! The food was properly cooked, smelled and tasted AMAZING (and it was not expired). The noise was calm and peaceful, everyone was quiet. The little girl that I think is one of the staff members daughter was amazing, polite, helpful and overall amazing. She would make a good manager in the future. Ah ha! Japanese, oh yes the only cuisine that shall not only satisfy, but also work well with the heat. There were smashing reviews of EN Izakaya Japanese Bar & Restaurant. So I could not say no. The front of the store is a little misleading, because when you step through it is a really lovely designed restaurant. What I love about Japanese restaurants and cuisine is the attention to detail and great customer services. EN Japanese have laid out the restaurant in a wonderful way sectioning off an area for groups and an intimate back bar section. Oh, and what a bar! The bar top is one long single cut slice of red gum. So gorgeous! Also, to my surprise it features some acrylic resin in a hole in the wood with opals and rocks set into it. Again, there is your attention to detail. The menu is expensive, many options inclusive of traditional Japanese dishes and modern twists. But, I knew what I wanted before I even walked through the doors. Sashimi and seaweed salad with ice cold green tea. And like any good Japanese restaurant, it was on the menu and very affordable. My dishes presentation was beautiful. Wasabi was high quality and placed carefully on top of a leaf. All seafood was brilliantly fresh and cut in well measured slices. The seaweed salad was also fresh and well portioned. As for the staff, well I was very fortunate enough to have a chat to he chef and was looked after very well by the waiter. They both were super friendly and happy to talk about their restaurant. Lovely experience just for a quick lunch. I will be back with others!

I love this place! Seems like a weird concept; go to a restaurant just to cook your own meal?! But…read moreit's great. There are a small selection of chef-prepared meals (mostly entrees) but the main idea is to cook it yourself. You order your meat/seafood and it is brought out raw, then you cook it on the bbq which is located in the centre of your table. The meat is nice and the variety is good (from your standards; chicken, lamb, beef, pork, to fancier options like ox tongue and pork belly). The seafood combination was impressive; scallops, prawns, calamari and white fish. They also give you a dish of soy sauce for dipping, and it is periodically refilled throughout the night. The "set selection" is always a good option. It comes with soup, rice and a selection of vegetable side dishes, along with your meat. The fried beancurd and pan-fried dumplings are amazing! Definitely worth a try. For dessert there is chocolate fondue (with Tia Maria). If you are celebrating a birthday they throw in free dessert (always a winner). Kids are also given a chocolate and a balloon (nice little surprise when we decided to take the kids along last time). Word of warning, don't wear anything fancy or dry clean only. Because every table has its own grill the entire restaurant fills with a haze of smoky goodness. You will also be covered in grease when you leave (from sitting so close to the grill), but it's totalky worth it. I love coming here, but always wear stuff that is easily washed. The Korea is a great place. A really fun meal, best spent with friends!

I was very surprised to find that this place hadn't been reviewed yet. Korea Restaurant has been…read morerunning for almost 20 years, and does not seem to have changed since I first went there in 1999 - definitely not a bad thing. It was the first time I tried the cook-your-own style of service, which just further enhances the experience of Korean BBQ - and kids LOVE it. After visiting another Korean restaurant in the CBD, this one still remains my favourite in food and service. Korean Restaurant is only open for dinner, except for Friday when it is also open for lunch. Consequently, it can get very busy, and parties will tend to stay for hours due to the popular cook-your-own menu options, so a reservation is highly recommended. The interior is not particularly special, and despite the elaborate gate and little garden out the front, they did not opt for a traditional cultural layout and decor - it's simply geometric tables and chairs with a grill in the middle of each unit. On the walls, however, hang traditional Korean artefacts and clothing with colours that brighten the room. With any set of the cook-your-own comes a range of sides, including the popular kim chi, and a soup appetiser. The dishes are marinated in a lovely bulgogi sauce, which gives each piece of meat, fish, or vegetable a lovely smoky flavour when you take it off the grill. Dip it into the soy sauce provided for an even lovelier taste. Their service is good and friendly, and the man who I can only suspect is the owner, is a lovely guy who makes it one that stands out from other restaurants. Their emphasis - if you couldn't tell by my review - is on the cook-your-own experience, so their chef-prepared dishes are limited to a simple noodle or soup dishes. You will have to find another place if you are after a greater range of Korean cuisine, but the cooking experience is a plus to the great taste.
