These folks are great! If you buy an older house, you have to do a sewer lateral repair per city's code. I asked for quotes from three other companies and not only they were higher than Gopher It but also communication was so bad: they won't return calls or emails. I get it, it's a niche business and only a few companies have necessary licenses so they all have more business than they can handle. However Matt was great at getting back to me, providing insights on what to expect, scheduling the project on the week when was convenient for me. Matt was a huge help. I was told that the sewer pipe blockage that was under the street was most likely caused by an old collapsed pipe that would need replacement. Matt came right out to give me an estimate and suggested that I try Roy's Sewer Service to see if they could unblock it while I was waiting for the re-piping permit process. This was the hardest working crew we have had the pleasure to work with. They worked fast and efficiently, like a well run restaurant, everyone was moving doing their job. After a truly unfortunate episode with Rescue Rooter of San Leandro, we called Matt of Gopher-It, who was recommended to us by another plumber who was too busy to take our job. We had a 100 year old sewer later that had a 100 year old tree on top of it - extensive root damage Matt did a thorough job with the camera, and explained all our options. He started by saying the tree might need to come out, but probably not. He said we could just have the roots removed, and we'd be good for several years. He was extremely knowledgeable about local ordinances, and began by recording a DVD of the damage, to help us with the $1500.00 rebate we didn't know about. Gopher-It put in our new sewer lateral in less than two days. The tree didn't need to come out. They left our front yard looking nicer than it had before they'd excavated (we got free weeding! :) ). Exceeded expectations. Handled a complex project, coordinating with the sanitary district and a not easy to work with city. To reach the main sewer required running the lateral down a narrow street, without a road closure. Just to reach the street required a 100' run down a steep lot, dealing with buried concrete. However what really amazed us was the clean up: replacing plants, a section of irrigation pipe, slate on a crossing walk way that was previously broken, soil and mulch. We had anticipated significant follow up work on our part, all of which the crew dealt with. Strongly recommend. read more

Their bid was the lowest of several we looked into so we went with them. The job itself went very smoothly, everything except the inspection by the city was done in one day. The crew was very polite, wore masks while communicating with us, and did a great job of cleaning up after their work. They were careful to avoid irrigation and heating lines that ran next through their work area. In areas where they had to dig, soil and plants were replaced very carefully after the work was done. Then a bigger, more complex job: A HISTORIC COMMERCIAL BUILDING in downtown San Rafael. Matt was the only guy who gave us the GREAT ADVICE that, while we have a 7' deep hole open in the sidewalk anyway for the lateral work to the city main, it would be very cost efficient to have them replace the part of the 100 year old sewer that is underground under the business' floor, or we would have to pay later again to have that same excavation done in the sidewalk. And by being creative, smart, capable and caring they didn't have to open the tile floor IN the cafe but came with the pipe through the back of the cafe, 135' AWAY!!!.... Gopher it never did any work for me but saved me a ton of money and time. The professionalism and integrity of Matt and his company has really impressed me and here is why: 9 years ago I had my sewer line replaced by the trenchless method. It was done by a company which was not Gopher it. However, after the 9 years, roots began to clog it up again, something that should not happen. Given that it was 9 years old and not even thinking about a warranty situation, I called my sewer district and told them of the problem and asked for a recommendation to determine what was going on. Although they can't recommend a particular company, they gave me the name of three companies that would put a camera down the line and find out why and where the roots were intruding. Gopher It was one of the three. I called Gopher it and spoke with Matt. He was in the middle of something, but took the call and asked me to send him a text about the problem. I did and he got back to me right away. He asked me who did the previous work and I told him. Matt then said, "you really should call them because they are a reputable company and they might repair the issue under warranty." So it called the other company, who came right out, put the camera down the line and said "yep, your covered under warranty". Its just really nice to know that Gopher It is a company that you can trust and if I ever have any plumbing problems, they will be the first people I call. read more

Gopher-It did two sewer lateral jobs for me. The first was done seamlessly and well. I would have given them 5 stars for that job had I reviewed it, however, the second job, was a different story. For whatever reason, Matt decided that he would (improperly) place mechanics liens on two properties for twice the amount due a day BEFORE issuing an invoice for the work! He did so even though we had no intention to, and did not, withhold payment. At the time of this writing, his invoice shows a -0- balance but the two mechanics liens on two properties for the work remain. Addition later today: one lien rescission has been recorded since writing the above and we now expect the other one to be recorded shortly. They've gone from one to three stars so far. Inching to four. Still perplexed as to why the liens in the first place. read more

My old house had the main sewer line problem(had concrete plugging 1/2 of the pipe done by other contractor, that is another story) . I had 3 bids and Gopherittrenchless came in the lowest overall for completing the project. Other two bids are B.F, who was eager(pressuring) to sign the contract without the complete scope saying his so called manager had to come to quote additional work, and the last one was O** Plumbing, highly marked in Home Adviser, who kept promising to email the quote (more than 2X price of others) but never did. Gopherittrenchless came prepared with equipment, i.e. video recording camera, etc. that identified and showed me the problem area, the length, etc., had no side walk disturbance (other bidders had to break to enlarge to work), pulled a new pipe trenchless fast, finished, inspected by the city and signed off. This because they have a team that loves their job and it shows. I had contacted Amesos plumbing who basically told me the job was too complicated for them and to go find somebody else. I had contacted Trenchless Titan who never gotten back to me. But John found the solution and made it happen skillfully. My front yard looks great most of it being done Trenchless. I had gone through three times in 17 days of having my sewer back up and finally the third time the camera was able to see the cause, the connection to the street main had slipped down plus a rock had somehow got in the system. My plumber referred me to Gopher-it along with two other plumbers that did not do the digging. Matt came the next morning, said that he could have it taken care of the next morning, a Saturday, since it was an emergency.. The other two companies said they could get to it the following week. The job was down on Saturday. Matt just called to say that he has scheduled the paver to do the black top within the next week. Wow if I could give this company 10 stars I would. Plumber tried 3 hours to clear sewer with not luck. Gopherit trenchless was recommended by a plumber friend. Matt came out the next day and accessed the problem, dug a hole with workers, cut the line semi cleared the drain. Put a camera in found a collapsed pipe with roots and mud. Made line semi clear so we could function. They took care of everything permits etc. 4 workers 3 trucks came by friday and put new sewer line. Inspection monday and fill holes all done. Matt and his crew really have their act together. Price was fair and do not hesitate to use them. read more

Matt Melendez is very competent and he found a way to save me $800 by re-using the connection to the main sewer. He replaced my sewer lateral using a trenchless method that did not damage my garden or require an open trench. Matt quoted me a price of $7500 and his final bill was the same. There was no pressure and he encouraged me to get other estimates. Benjamin Franklin quoted me $14000, Mr Rooter quoted me $12000. Matt only does sewer laterals so he has a lot of experience. I have been using the same plumber in Petaluma for 23 years and they recommended Matt. IMPORTANT: Petaluma has a grant program to encourage people to replace their sewer laterals. Matt told me about it and helped me complete the application. I got the last grant in this fiscal year, so check after July 1st. If you live somewhere else, check with your water department because there are grant programs in many places. I got a $2000 rebate from the city! read more
