    Before I sat in Liv's chair

    I went to a different stylist at a different hair salon for purple highlights and they did not quite understand my vision and did a service on my hair I ended up HATING. In a panic, I started asking friends around what to do and how to fix it and my sister-in-law recommended I go see Liv at Andreas Hogue. My sister-in-law was NOT joking, Liv was amazing!!!! She did a thorough consult before started to make sure the result was exactly what I wanted. Through the whole service Liv and I chatted and giggled and it was a very professional yet comfortable experience. Liv totally fixed my hair and gave me exactly what I was looking for!!! Definitely go see Liv for all of your hair needs :)))

    Hair cut and color

    Unfortunately, after years of going here I just can't get past the feeling that the stylists are all double and triple booked and no one really cares if you are happy with your service. The younger/newer stylists generally try really hard (Liv and Abby were great), but I guess the more experienced stylists think a customer base is a given and really don't care about your time or satisfaction. Generally, I go to get just a root touch up, and since they charge to dry your hair unless you also get a cut, I dry my own hair. This doesn't really create the relaxing experience most women look forward to when getting their hair done but ok I've gotten used to that. So this time I said I'd get a cut and color and actually leave with a nice blow out. I was truly looking forward to feeling good about my appearance/hair for at least a day or two. Well, after my shampoo was done, I waited a few minutes so Cynthia could finish her other client's foils. When it was my turn to get back in the chair, the cut lasted all of 3 minutes and the blow dry still has me angry. It was haphazardly rough blown with a round bush (too big for my length of hair BTW) but no time was spent to create any actual style. The roots were all frizzy and despite slapping on a serum way too heavy for my fine hair, you can still see the fly aways and frizz. I couldn't believe when she took the cape off signaling my time was over. I asked if she could add some waves since I prefer a blow out to actually have a polished style. She told me "no, you should have said that at the beginning. I don't have time for that -my next client is here." Um, you didn't ask! She's done my style one other time where a cut and blow dry were part of the service and while she did the rough blow dry then, she went back to actually style it. Why would I have expected any different for literally the same service? Also, any other blow out I've had at a salon involves the stylist lightly drying it first all over then sectioning your hair and blowing it out section by section to create a smooth texture and some bounce. This was just the kind of rushed job I'd do at home with 5 Minutes to spare. At that time, I had been there just two hours (most of that spent processing/shampoo/ and toner). I usually spend more time there for just a root touch up doing my own style (no cut). I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a nice style after a cut and color to the tune of $239 (without tip). I'd be embarrassed to send a client off with this limp "style". I guess it's time to move on since management also didn't care and tried to tell me everything about how they operate is normal and some clients don't mind the overbooking or blowing your hair straight so they can touch up the cut once dry (note there was no touch up).

    I've seen Maddie M. for a haircut & style twice now, and was very pleased! She was bubbly, professional, enthusiastic and even took the time to help with (my lack of, ha) volume by curling my hair. Definitely recommend her and will see her for coloring services as I start to see more grays!

    My first visit to Andrea's Hogue salon. My stylist was Abby and I loved her. She did absolutely amazing job curling my hair. I am very happy with the result. I also love the whole salon vibe it is super cozy, whimsical and has a beautiful gift shop. I loved the whole experience and already booked my next appointment.

A really good receptionist knows how to make a customer always want to come back. Here was my experience tonight. I am horrified. I called yesterday . I gave the salon more than 24 hours notice just as I was told to do. I spoke to a lovely receptionist. I explained to her that heavy storms were coming in with many warnings. I did not want to drive in this weather. They were predicting tornados, hail and heavy winds. She was absolutely lovely to talk to and understood. I also explained to her that I did not want to get a fee for rescheduling. She said she understood and would take care of it.She also told me to call in the morning and to let them know once I saw what the weather was like. I followed her advice and immediately called in the morning and rescheduled my appointment. No problem. At 6:30 tonight Gail called. (the other receptionist) as obnoxious as can be and told me that I did not follow the rules . She was going to place a fee on me.ii believe it was $25. She kept saying we talked about this and would not stop. I thought she was a broken record. Again ,I followed the rules. I did nothing wrong. I will tell you the right does not know what the left is doing . There is no communication between receptionists. This was a power trip with her and under no circumstances she was going to win. She was determined. That was obvious. Salons are customer service oriented. You have to be this way if you are going to keep customers. This is the way salons have been . They want the customer to be relaxed by their services. I don't know if Gail got off the wrong side of the bed or something was going on in her life. She sure took it out on me. I am not going to tolerate this behavior. Nobody should. I wonder if the owners know how she is treating customers. She cancelled my appointment because she said I did not follow the rules. At this point, I hung up on her. Nobody should ever be treated this way under any circumstances. It was horrifying to say the least. If you want to be abused by a receptionist then I recommend going here. I am just flabbergasted by the way I was treated. I am in this salon every month. I am not a walk in.

    I went in for a haircut. I can't go to a regular salon anywhere. I need to go where they have cut…read moreasian hair before... especially thick wavy hair with a mind of its own. I was cautious at first since I've gone to a korean hair salon and paid $75 for a haircut only to look like a christmas tree in the middle of July (needless to say it was in a bun all year long until it grew out) There was only one guy to take care of me and my two friends. We each wanted something different done. I wanted a haircut, one friend wanted a perm and another wanted her hair dyed. I was the last to be done but it didn't wear this hairstylist a bit. He took time to cut each of my layers and checked over and over to see the "flow" of my natural waves. He cut more of my bangs then before and ive received so much more compliments than before. All i did was get a haircut but i felt like a new person! He was great! I wish i couldve asked for his name. He wears glasses and has a mustache? He is the person to go to!

I have been going and spreading the gospel of Shana for all the years since my last review. Because I moved to St Louis and then covid ruined my year in Chicago, I didn't get to have many haircuts with her in the past six years, but I did when I could, and the few times I've had to settle for an emergency haircut elsewhere (Chicago Chinatown, flushing new york, etc) , no one was good as her. To me, what makes her incredibly special is how great my hair can look without any effort. I am a very low maintenance person, and no one else has ever given me a haircut that looks great just by me air drying my hair lazily. Plus, if I let my hair grow out, it somehow maintains some semblance of shape for a long, long time. How!! It's magic. Nowhere else have I been able to get this. Sure this is just one person's low maintenance needs. But honestly it's a big ask for a stylist - give me a nonboring haircut, but I don't want it to look like crap when I don't style it. No one else has been able to do achieve that for me. And from the time I've spent in the waiting area/waiting for my hair to dye, etc, and seeing other clients come through, it is clear Shana strives to understand each person's needs individually. And of course she's always offering advice based on each person (that you should always listen to!) All the things I said in my previous review are true still, she is of course a skilled technician. But also magical, to me at least. And I know it's just hair! But it was always great knowing I could always rely on Shana for a great haircut, and this void has been hard to fill now that I moved. Everyone should go to Shana, especially if you have thick Asian hair like me!
