We don't talk about Alvin, TX enough so let me shed some light on this great place. I've had Gordon Street Tavern on my list for awhile for the simple fact that they sell scotch eggs. You just don't see that often and I wanted to try it. The stars aligned and my family and I met up here for a weeknight dinner. Alvin is the true definition of a small town. It is just south of Pearland and life moves a little slower out here. Atleast for time being as it is becoming more developed now. The building itself is old and full of character. Everyone seemed to know each other. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, but service was a tad bit slow at times. My family isn't a big drinking family so we stuck with water and sodas, but they have quite a nice bar program here. They have a really impressive beer selection, a long list of specialty cocktails and lots of wine to choose from. I'm definitely coming back to check that out without the fam. For appetizers, we got an order of the scotch eggs and the Bavarian pretzel sticks. This was my first introduction to scotch eggs and a wonderful one at that. You really can't go wrong with anything wrapped in sausage and deep friend. It was a nice treat and something I will not be sharing next time. The pretzels were also very good. Our waitress suggested some cheese sauce to accompany those. These sticks of goodness were excellent. For my entree, I was stuck on a few items as their menu is pretty extensive. Our waitress said my option for the Pork Milanesa was the way to go, so I did. I've had milanesa at Mexican restaurants, but never in a tavern nor prepared this way. This was hand battered in panko and then topped with a mushroom gravy. It comes with broccoli and mashed potatoes but I substituted the veggie for mac and cheese. This dish was very good and the portions were very generous. Enough for me to have a full second meal minus the sides. The pork was thinly pounded and kept it's crunch even doused in gravy. The gravy was rich and very delicious. My family got a mix of items like the philly cheese steak, flat iron steak salad, tavern salad, and chicken fried steak. For research purposes and for my loyal readers, I tried everything. There wasn't anything that was bad to me. We were full so desserts didn't happen on this trip. The food at Gordon Street is good. The service is awful. This is the second time in two months I have been there. Both times two different set of friends wanted to go and try it. We live about 30 minutes away. Both times the service was terrible. We waited a long time to get a drink. We ordered two appetizers. Then ordered food. 30 minutes later I had to ask about the appetizers. In 5 minutes they dropped the appetizers off at our table. Queso was kinda cold. 5 minutes after that they brought our meal. We didn't have time to eat enjoy the appetizer. We told them that was not acceptable. They said we are sorry we are busy. Each time I looked the staff was just standing around the bar area. Stopped in here quickly for lunch with my bestie while we were in Alvin ! We split the Bavarian pretzels with queso and spicy mustard which were phenomenal!!!!!! The bread was so soft and perfect! Sweet little tavern we stumbled upon while driving through...glad we did. Nice balance of bar and quaint restaurant. We were seated promptly. We ordered fried mozzarella, super good! Cheese had a nice pull...IYKYK! Sauce served hot...very tasty. Club sandwich was good, very basic sandwich. Kids Mac and cheese was super yummy...and we have a picky kiddo. Fries were nice and crispy. We ordered the wings...hot sauce, very good. Probably the best wings I've had in awhile. They were very good. I ordered a side of broccoli (served with shaved Parmesan I think) and side of Mac & cheese. Sides were great. Service was great...and she had alot of tables so great job! My family and I stopped in last Friday as a party of 16. We actually confirmed the reservation as 14 guests but miscounted and the team at Gordon Street accommodated us without a problem. The staff were beyond friendly and the service was exceptional, even with such a wild group. The lemon drop martini was one of the best I've ever had and came super fast, which was much-needed. Probably the best food and ambiance in all of Alvin. They have a huge menu with everything you can think of. I was starving when I came here and there was so much to choose from, I couldn't decide! I ended up getting blue chicken sandwich and I did not regret it! This chicken sandwich came with bacon, chicken, mushrooms, onions, and a blue cheese spread that was delicious! It was massive! I ended up taking half of it to go an eating it for dinner the next day. Service was fast on Sunday during lunch hours and also very attentive. We ended up ordering a couple of drinks as well. I had the sangria margarita and was not a fan... They do have a pretty extensive list of cocktails so I am sure I could find something that I like better next time. Yes. You want to stop!!!! For many reasons I'll list below! That being said, I wouldn't stop for the drug deals claimed in reviews (ridiculous), or I wouldn't bring a scale and weight your "cooked" Waygu patty either. These people should be banned from eating out in my opinion. Atmosphere: 10 out of 10. Small awesome little place with a homey feel to it. I love these style of places. Not huge, but it fits perfectly where it's located. Service: 10 out of 10. I had the Mango whatever margarita and bomb.com!! Bartender was sweet and knowledgeable. Food: 10 of 10. I had the white sauce Alabama wings or whatever and they were amazing even without the wing sauce. Oh and I might mention, they make their own "regular" ranch dressing here too and I literally could have drank the entire bottle lol. Wings were crispy outside and juicy inside. Waygu Burger- was next. It was juicy and soooo amazing. I added grilled jalapeños to it and it was a perfect balance. Lunch on a Friday was busy! We split the Hug Bean Dip and fish n chips. Portions are large so even splitting we were full. Got a side of sweet potato fries too! All was delicious as usual. Besides being small, it smelt great inside, the server was very friendly, and the food was delicious. I didn't take a photo of my husband's Pulled pork sandwich, but it was fantastic. GST has a fabulous kind of eclectic menu! We were in the area and looking for a great place to have a late lunch. Using Yelp of course, we found this spot. Very big patio area on the way in. We did have a child with us so confirmed it was child friendly, the friendly staff member that greeted us said, well of course! First impression is rustic, sports on the TV's people whooping and hollering for their teams! Service was spot on! We tried several appetizers, but truly one of the main reasons I chose this place was "scotch eggs" and crispy polenta on the menu! We ordered the pretzels, and the goat cheese dip appetizer as well. All of these things were delicious! Who knew about these pretzels!!!! The scotch egg even my 5 year old niece said it was delicious! My partner is the wing wonderer and had to try those after the other apps! The wings had an accompanying dry rub that was spicy delicious. The last but not least was the crispy polenta. I love polenta and it was good, just a tad salty. We never got around to having an entree because we tried so many other things! So we were here over 4 years ago, and it was good. But they keep showing up in a food blog I follow so we thought let's go try it again. Still good so busy we got the last table on a Friday night. I had the BLT so much bacon perfectly cooked, the bread toasted. My husband had the smoked cheese burger it looked amazing he had to struggle to finish it, really struggled. The onion rings perfect! The beer nice and cold!! I love craft beer but it would help if they had a menu not having to pull it up on my phone, but lots of choices.
