As you walk in, it's dark and had loud rap music playing that did not fit the vibe/ atmosphere. It looks like it could be a nice atmosphere but the music was horrible. We were also informed that they stop serving food at 9:30, so pretty much to order soon. Needless to say I was so disappointed and ready to leave. But it being so late, sucked it up. Came here for the sword fish that apparently they no longer serve as their menu had changed. After ordering, I did voice my concerns about the loud music and thankfully they changed it. I was able to enjoy my late night dinner with my husband. We ordered the Kataifi shrimp as an appetizer. They were medium sized served with a spicy tangy sauce. They were very delicious. For my main course I ordered the American red snapper which was also a unique dish as it was served on a corn husk with rice and beans. 3 whole crawfish, a corn and cold salsa verde sauce on the side of the dish. All was delicious except they should have served the salsa verde sauce warm instead of cold. It was still a delicious dish. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak which was also delicious. It was served with a side of green beans, puréed potatoes with a foie gras gravy. They have a descent drink menu. I ordered the Friendswood 75 which was a little too sweet for my liking and my husband ordered the Gin and tonic. They didn't have Sapphire so he opted for the Tanqueray. Our most recent visit may be our last. While the kitchen knows what they're doing, some of the wait staff does not. Our sever was very green, to say the least. She got our drink order wrong, and forgot to place our appetizer order until we asked about it. After discussing our entree order with her at some length, she never placed the order. She came to the table and asked us if we wanted anything else. When we looked surprised, she started apologizing profusely and said "it's on me" about 10 times. We left without eating dinner but at least saved some money on the tip. We've eaten here several other times, so I can say the service ranges from inadequate to awful in our experience. read more

The chef is a culinary genius. His palate pairings combined with incorporating local/seasonal ingredients keep the menu exciting. Husband and I went for a rare date night since we had a sitter. I was bummed that they were out of the butter board, so we had charcuterie bread and ordered mains from the fall menu. My complaint was that service was slow for it not being packed and they had a lot of staff. There was a big portion sectioned off for a party but it was empty. Since there was not a lot of seating, we were squished at the bar. My dirty martinis were pretty pricey. They charged for the alcohol separate, then the two little olives, and the olive juice like itemized. I don't think I've ever been charged per ingredient like that. And the olives weren't special or gourmet. I've had bowls of hand stuffed, extra large, blue cheese olives at Rouxpour complimentary with my drink. Anywho, lots of regular customers so that's always a good sign. I'd come back for seasonal dishes or happy hour. read more

The tots were absolutely delicious. They are infused with bacon and cheddar and are very ooey gooey delicious! The chicken strips aren't breaded like your normal chicken strips. The food here is like an experience. So many unique/ different flavored dishes . It's my husband's and I's favorite " date night spot " it's a small town / local tavern / restaurant. I don't feel like calling it a " tavern " does it justice . It's not just fried finger foods and beer , it's well designed chef inspired meals . After Covid it went through a bit of a " change " like a lot of small businesses did . And during the transition there were some hiccups but I think it's back to being its best self . This place is so damn cozy! Perfect lighting, perfect decor, just perfect. Loved their Friendswood 75 and had wine afterwards since they were having a happy hour special. We split the Belgian fries and the sauces were delicious; mix them together for even more tasty delight! The staff was excellent... this is the kind of place you feel right at home at immediately. They've got so much to offer, be it suggestions or great conversation. I was informed that their menu will be consistently changing and I think that's wicked fun. My parents had been here earlier this month and my dad loved the bread so much that we decided to come back a second time (and my dad is very critical about bread at restaurants so it's a huge ordeal when he finds a place he likes). The restaurant is tucked in the back of a small plaza and while there are lots of string lights lighting up the front, the actual sign of the restaurant isn't lit up so I feel like that makes it a little difficult to find the restaurant if you're coming for the first time. Walking in, the bar is on the left with some high top tables and booths in the middle and tables lining the furthest wall on the right. It's dimly lit but still has a warm and inviting atmosphere to it. You seat yourself and the waiter provides you with a menu that supposedly changes every 2 months so tonight was Italian style. My mom was given an old menu tho so I pointed it out to the waiter and he apologized and said it must have been missed but will be thrown out. At the top corner of the menu is a QR code that you can scan to see a visual of some of the menu items - this, however, is not updated very often as the menu changes because several of the items on the visual menu are outdated such as the board #2 on the appetizer list. We found this out when we asked the waiter if board #2 came with bread and he told us no but the visuals for board #2 showed it coming with lots of bread so he had to confess that it was a picture of the old board #2 and that the restaurant has not been on top of keeping the visual menu accurate. I also asked the waiter why the chicken tenders were boxed on the menu as it seemingly highlights it as being a favorite and he stated he had no idea why and had been wondering that himself. The bread and butter board #1 is phenomenal. My dad had every reason to love it because the bread is crispy but also soft on the inside and the spread is scrumptious. It did seem to attract some bugs tho so felt like we had to constantly be swatting something away and weren't able to fully enjoy. We also got the braised beef cheeks on top of Parmesan polante, chicken fried steak, and spaghetti "with the reef" (scallops, mussels, shrimp, squid in a tomato sauce). Out of the 3 dishes, the chicken fried steak was the star of the show - I was pleasantly surprised with the cut of the chicken fried steak being a little smaller than it usually is at restaurants but I actually prefer it this way because it doesn't seem as overwhelming of a dish to eat. It was also fried to perfection and just the right crispiness. As for the spaghetti, I found the sauce to be a little too bland but the seafood was fresh. The beef cheeks was a little salty and didn't stand out too much. Would 100% come back just for the bread and butter board but am also willing to give the entrees another try. read more

Amazing! Came here for dinner after going to Stevenson Park. We ordered the burger (amazing!) tater tots (awesome!) and Bob Ross chicken with sauces (perfect and our toddlers enjoyed them too!) and fried shrimp. Our drinks and food were delish. It's a small but carefully selected menu; the waitress says the chef rotates it monthly. Portions were good. I think they really focus on high quality and it shows. Restroom was very clean. Overall impression: Food and service of a high end restaurant for an affordable price. 5 stars all around Cost per meal: ~$40-60 for dinner (you can get away with 30 though) We were shocked at how amazing this place was. Here we thought we were going to some low key nice place to eat for a simple date night and we get the five star treatment at this place! To give an example, I had bought my wife a small bouquet of flowers and told her to bring it inside the restaurant. When we were seated (which was, btw, without reservations on a weekend night after Valentine's Day) one of the servers came by, took our bouquet and set it up with a vase of water on an end table right next to our table. This was just one example of many that night. And the food...was incredible. The foie gras creme brûlée, oh man, I've never had anything like it. And all of this 5-star service and food for prices that were basically half of what I had paid at other places for the equivalent. Still can't get over it. First time here, and I really wanted to like this place... but the service was TERRIBLE. I felt invisible. We sat at our table for about 20 mins with just water, we flagged someone down and asked if they knew who our waiter was going to be? The waiter came over and said, "Oh, I thought I already served yall." We put our drink order and food order in and waited about 15 mins, and then he saw that he forgot our drink order. (We waited about 30 to 35 mins in total with nothing but water) He also never noticed that we had no silverware or plates. We had to ask the buser. So, I wanted to try this place as I had heard a lot of good things. I was disappointed and will likely not return. The decor is great and the gas lights are cool. But aside from that, not much more to be happy about. We went for lunch and my mom and I each had a burger and two drinks. I ordered onion rings in addition to burger. Our check was $76. But, I have had better burgers from fast food dollar menus. I had the 1895 burger. While the flavors were unique and tasty, there was way too much bun. The patty only covered about 3/4 of the bun and was super thin and overcooked. Mom had the greek burger and she took off top bun because it was too much bun. The onion rings were crispy and very good. We had great service which is reason for 3 stars instead of two. Finally, the bar had decent selection of alcohol, but only 4 draughts, two of which are crap beers (Bud Light and Ultra). They had room for more, just nothing else available other than Crawford Bock and Citra Mellow. Felt like I wasted money on this and unless they add some umph to the burgers and a few more beers, I will not be returning nor recommending to anyone. read more

Came to B1895 for NASA QA Christmas party. Ambience: check. The rustic chic theme if friendly to all. Great use combining of luxe fabrics, woods, metals, antiques and more. *chefs kiss! We were quickly greeted by our server, but our first round of drinks took a bit long. Ok..ok.understandable for a busy Friday night during holiday party season. I also wish the staff did a better job at placing signs for our reserved tables instead of us having to chase people away, followed by the stink-eye (it is a seat yourself establishment). Those are my ONLY complaints. We were then greeted by Chris, the chef and owner. He told us to prepare for the spread that was going to start making its way to our tables! Let me preface with this: forgive me as I do not remember some of the names of the dishes. We started with the amazing butter board. I'm not sure what that butter is concocted with, but put it on everything you love. It was AMAZING! Perfectly salted, with microgreens and radishes. I could've snacked on this all night and I would've been happy. As Chef promised...mas comida! The Asian-inspired shrimp came next. They were accompanied with a sweet & sour dipping sauce, and perfectly golden and plump, and HUGE! The rangoon came next. Honestly not sure what the filling was..cheese and a protein with a salsa verde-esque sauce...perfection. The hits keep coming: Beef brisket tacos, Bob Ross chicken tenders, and an amazing Beef Wellington cooked to absolute perfection. The meat was so tender, I cut it with my butter knife. When we lived here one of our biggest complaints was the lack of good food options in the burbs. So happy to see a place such as this thriving! The service was not good at all. We felt there was racial discrimination at this beautiful tavern. When we got there it took about 15 minutes for waitress to come welcome us. Once the waitress get our drinks and food ordered it took longer than any else around us to get served. All the other tables we being served quickly and more attentively than us.
