As part of Hollywood's Warner Bros collection of theaters, the Warner Theatre in Torrington was built in 1928, with doors opening in 1931. Both use and condition of the theater declined, ultimately leading to impending demolition in the early 1980s. A visionary group of community members created a non-profit to save the theater and raise funds for its restoration. Evergreene Architectural Arts and Sevigny Architects helped restore the surfaces that had been designed by legendary Thomas Lamb. Full restoration of the structure and internal systems was achieved and celebrated in 2002. CONCEPT: The restored Warner Theatre has expanded its activities beyond film screenings. Opportunities for patrons to see various performing arts, including dance, music, and plays, are now available within the original theater and surrounding spaces. There is something for everyone -- see the theater's website for upcoming schedule of activities. It's one of several rewarding ways the restored theater can be supported. EXPERIENCE: I enjoyed a performance of Swan Lake thanks to World Ballet Company and had opportunity to marvel at both the performance and building interior. After sitting for 30 minutes with no acknowledge from the staff while we witnessed 15 others who arrived after us being given menus, then drinks, and some already receiving their dinner orders, we decided to leave. The manager was contacted to refund our ticket price. He agreed but seemed unconcerned about what was going on upstairs in the theater. Cannot recommend Gilson's unless you can find a time when no one else is visiting.

They offer evening and matinee performances and have a nice outdoor bar and patio where they serve patrons before and during intermission. They offer special events and have meet and greet sessions with the performers who will entertain on the patio before and after some shows. TriArts is kid-friendly as they offer a youth theater as well. The shows typically run from early June to late August as this is predominantly a summer theater. In March they release (on their web site) their upcoming seasons performances. Ya gotta check this place out! You will not be disappointed. See you there.

The physical movements across the stage were awkward at best and lines were delivered with shrieks and screams and often not understandable. The price of the tickets reflected a professional performance. I have attended high school plays that put this performance to shame. It was supposed to be a comedy, but no one was laughing. On the way out, most people just seemed to be in a rush to leave. We certainly were. Find some other entertainment or make a donation to the food pantry or animal shelter. We wish that we had.

The theater is beautiful, with crystal chandeliers and gold detailing. On this day, I went to the Palace Theatre to graduate with my second college degree in Early Childhood Education.
