The Palace Theater is registered as a National Historic Treasure. It opened on January 28, 1922. The Palace Theatre showcases Broadway tours, rock concerts, educational programs, family entertainment, and other events. The theater is beautiful, with crystal chandeliers and gold detailing. On this day, I went to the Palace Theatre to graduate with my second college degree in Early Childhood Education. The graduation was beautiful as it was in this stunning building. Beautiful, historical theater. We were able to snag metered parking on the street just a block away during a matinee show. Beautiful interior and ceilings. I'm not a fan of the doors being open, but the doors to the actual theater remaining closed. The bar/lobby area, while beautiful, is incredibly crowded with nowhere to go, and super long bathroom lines. The show also was starting 30 minutes late but no announcement of that was made. My first time at this location. The building is beautiful. I went to see the Rock Orchestra there. The sound quality was great. The seat we were in were pretty good. When I bought the tickets, they noted that there was some obstruction to not be able to see the whole stage.. we were in box a right side of the orchestra. We only really missed a sliver of the stage. It didn't take away from what we were there therefore. I definitely recommend seeing a show there. Additionally, there is parking around the corner. You pay per event the cost we paid was $12. read more

The theater is the most beautiful I've ever seen stepping back to the 1920s.The shows here benefit from great acoustics and the staff is amazing. We even took their monthly tour for only 5$.Parking was easy right in the back of the theater is the ramp garage.Cant wait to see Blue Man group coming soon. The Palace is a beautiful theater definitely of an era long ago. You never see care and artistry like this anymore. It is in the middle of downtown Waterbury, so unfortunately they did not put any thought into parking. There is a parking garage behind the building that exits through a school's campus to the street of the theater, and an unaffiliated lot across the street from the Palace. Both seem to be $10. The seating is mostly standard theater seats, although the mezzanine seating are free standing chairs. The employees are a friendly lot, and one of the few theaters that won't insist on showing you to your seat, even when you point to it and assure them you know how to get to it. I appreciate them acknowledging I am capable. read more

But as for the venue, I cannot go back because the Palace has crammed so many seats into the mezzanine that I could not move my legs at all and I was practically sitting in my neighbor's lap. Hire a sound crew who knows how to balance. There are ways to make a guy with a microphone audible to the balcony. They have speakers up there. A concert would have been better,hopefully. This is a marvelous venue! Sure the building is a golden age icon and completely beautiful, but it's the staff makes the experience for you. From the very professional and cheerful security personnel, to the many wonderful and well dressed lady volunteers in their white jackets. "Welcome to the Palace" greets every single guest as you come in the grand entrance hall. Simply100% class. I think the operational events manager Meg Luddy, has a lot to do with how well it's run. She's the right professional for this grand and ornate venue. BTW. We found out they have a tour you can go in to see the entire theater, and no doubt hear about the interesting anecdotes throughout its history. Like this one: when the palace held its final performance in the early eighties,Tony Bennett was the entertainer. Then the Palace fell into disrepair for twenty years before receiving a rescue restoration. The grand reopening act in 2004? Tony Bennett. America is a wonderful band, and put on a fantastic show! They still tour and perform 100 concerts a year. Go to the Palace and catch some other great performance. It's worth it! read more

Have seen multiple shows here through the years. With UConn Waterbury and the multiple parking garages nearby you will have to pay a fee to park in them but only having to walk across the police managed street is a fine trade. Inside it is very traditional with long banners, stairways and carpet that remind you that you are in an old theater. Whether you are on the lower level or the higher one, be sure to walk upstairs and snag some photos that will make your social media pop out. Both floors has a bar for our snacks and drinks along with tables usually set up on the side for items to purchase during some shows. The staff there is helpful bringing you to their seats. The seats are close together so be prepared to get to know your neighbor. All in all a great Theater in the Brass City. read more

Came here to see Legally Blonde - The Musical. This was my first time here and this place is beautiful! I heard it had been renovated a while ago and they did an amazing job. We sat in the mezzanine, about the 4th row back. The seats were pretty good. We got a very nice view of the stage and weren't that far back. I'm guessing the mezzanine overhangs the orchestra probably around the 15th row or so (forgot to actually check). I feel like the back of the mezzanine may be a little far but that all depends on preference. Our seats were cramped. I'm 5'6'' and I have never complained about theater seating before but my knees were touching the seat in from of me. My husband is taller and was lucky enough to have an aisle seat, so he stretched his legs there. Apparently, not all seats are that bad, could have been our section but that made the show a little uncomfortable. I also noticed that there was quite a long line for drinks at the bar on the first floor but no line upstairs. Keep that in mind if you're getting drinks. Overall, beautiful theater, not too big so the mezzanine is still a good place to sit. Seating can be a bit cramped. We'll be back though, they have a great line up of shows. read more

Waterbury's Palace Theater is a beautiful venue you can't help be surprised of its location. While Waterbury isn't known as a snazzy and flashy city, the Palace transports you to an intimate broadway setting. It is gorgeous and ornate. You'll want to wear a ball gown, but it's not pretentious at all. You can wear business casual or your nice date-night outfit to most shows. Parking is much more convenient than Schubert or Bushnell theaters. Oh, and there's a Starbucks expected to open next door as of Dec 2017. Since the renovations years back the Palace has brought a ton of cool artists and shows to the area. I've seen a ton of shows here like the Blue Man Group and most recently Phantom of the Opera. Phantom was by far, the best show I have seen ever, including the time I saw it on Broadway. I've also been for a few private events. The box office staff is friendly and helpful. Also notable, there are two bars in the lobby - one upstairs and one downstairs. They carry some local spirits and brews. Come a bit early to enjoy a drink and wander in awe of the architecture. read more

The Palace is one of the only reasons I will drive to Waterbury. Traffic is always a nightmare, and I'd rather go to Hartford or New Haven if I have to go to a "city" in Connecticut. This place is worth the drive and aggravation in my opinion. First of all, it is GORGEOUS inside. The walls and ceilings are gorgeous, the floors are shiny and sleek and beautiful. There is marble everywhere. It's a visual dream to see it in person. There really isn't a bad seat in the house (unless, like me, you are a short person and have a tall person sit in front of you). My one complaint is that the seats are TINY - the only person in my group who didn't complain is barely 5 feet and very slim. The rest of us struggled with leg room and hip room. That being said, the seats are somewhat comfortable and supportive, even though they are miniature. There are restrooms on both floors so you don't have to travel far or wait long for a turn. There is also a bar and snacks on both floors, super convenient unless you have a small child and are trying to distract them from candy. read more

Seats are not the best for a 2 hour and 40 minute show but I can never sit still for nearly three hours anytime. Thank you Palace for hosting Rent. It was amazing. read more

Why didn't I know this was here? If you are w in a 35 mile radius definitely see a show here- it was easy all around. Dining in the area is difficult so IF you find something- MAKE A RESERVATION!!! Medium sized- better for a more intimate show. The acoustics were very good. This venue is gorgeous. White Carrera Marble entry & staircase, gold leaf, brass, elaborate & fancy- murals, ceiling motifs, the architecture is just beautiful. They serve beer/snacks. The bathrooms are clean & large. My cousin just had her wedding here yesterday and the venue itself is beautiful! I love how classy and old NYC it feels. Everything was pretty nice, the staff was very friendly, there were only a few things I didn't like about the set up (like where the dance floor area was located). However, considering that originally this place was not set up for such events they do make the best with how the layout already is. read more

Went to see RENT and was blown away by how beautiful the theater was. The staff at the bar and at the doors were helpful beyond belief and we were walked to our seats - a courtesy I've never experienced elsewhere. The performance was amazing, the seating was great and the sound was on point. I've come back to see 2 other plays, both of which were just as masterful as the first, and again I was treated phenomenally by the staff. Went here recently for a show which was amazing! But there's a few things that took away from the experience. 1. It's cold. Actually freezing in there. During the intermission I overheard many others complaining about how cold it was inside. 2. The seating is terribly uncomfortable. The chairs are small and there's little to no leg space for someone that's tall. And I'm only 5'3. 3. There's no real concession stand. The only thing they sell are bags of chips, candy, and bottles water/soda. Our show was almost 3 hours. It would've been nice to have something to snack on like popcorn or a soft pretzel. 4. We sat in the lower mezz and had a difficult time hearing the show. A woman sitting a few seats in front of us had to get headphones so we know we weren't the only ones. read more

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a performance of The Phantom of the Opera with loved ones. It was my first time attending a show at the Palace Theater, and I was taken aback with the beauty of the theater in its entirety, the seating, the visuals, the acting, the music...EVERYTHING! On top of the venue and the performance, the staff was fantastic. One person in our party has a disability (which we told the staff beforehand) and had to be guided out of the room for a period of the show due to the strobes. Rebecca completely took care of us, was patient, kind, stayed calm, and went absolutely above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable. When we were safe to go back in, she even told us when the next loud noises and strobes would be so we could prepare. Due to this employee's kindness and empathy, we were able to enjoy the rest of the show without worrying. It was my first experience at the Palace Theater and I can't say enough good things about it! I just got to visit the Palace for the first time last Friday to see Alanis Morissette. I was very pleasantly surprised with the theatre. The place is easy to find and also easy to find parking if the lot is already full. We paid $5 and got in a lot around the corner, safe walk to the theatre with many other people. I think the billboard out front is a little "Vegas"ish and over the top, but I didn't hate it. Walking in, it was very nice and old style theatre. It's not too big and it's not too small, we were in the Mezzanine and I thought the seats really weren't bad. Between the two acts we grabbed a water $2 and a beer $4 which I thought was very reasonable. Thumbs up. I hope to be back. The only negative thing I have is that the rows are SO narrow. I am 5'8" and my legs were very uncomfortable as I had to sit either sideways or straddle the seat in front of me and basically go into the personal space of whoever was next to me. My husband is just shy of 6' so I can only imagine his comfort level. The man two seats away from me was well over 6', although he was on the end, I don't see how he was comfortable either. read more

My experience at the Palace Theater was pretty much identical to what I experienced the Ridgefield Playhouse. Unfortunately, the experience wasn't that great. The Palace is a lot bigger that the Ridgefield Playhouse, but the seating situation is the same - extremely cramped, and uncomfortable. If you are over 6 feet tall, and have any meat on your bones, bring along a big shoe horn to get yourself in and out of the seats. My knees were literally wedged into the seats in front of me, and I was constantly trying to find a comfortable position for my arms while sandwiched in between my fellow patrons. I understand a venue like this wants to maximize attendance (and thereby revenue), but squeezing adult patrons into seats designed for kindergartners is NOT the way to go about it. I paid quite a bit of money to see the show we attended, and was hoping for a nice relaxing evening. Instead we left early due to the painful sardine-like conditions. It's sad to see what could be a great venue sacrifice a positive visitor experience for additional revenue. Unless the Palace decides to install adult seating, I won't be going back. read more

This was my experience. Take it for what it's worth. I sent this to the CEO and the marketing mgr. with no response. Me (F63) and my husband (M71) are retired. We have been vaccinated and have our booster AND flu shots. We are traveling around the northeast and seeing concerts. This summer and fall, we have been Boston, Hampton Beach three times, Beale St. in Memphis TWICE, New Haven for 2 days for 2 shows in a row, Bridgeport, and we have a couple coming up in Ridgefield. Last weekend (November 12th) we saw Blue Oyster Cult at the Waterbury Palace. It's only a half hour away, but we got a hotel so we could party and have fun and not drive. I am not a huge fan of BOC, but my husband wanted to see them, so, I didn't hate them...so I purposely got tickets in the back, on the aisle because I like to dance. So, we're there, I'm dancing for a while. I could have been the only one, to be honest, but I didn't care. I do enter into the aisle, and was asked very nicely by a woman, that I needed to get out of the aisle, so I did. So...I'm dancing at my seat...I checked to see if the people behind me had a problem, and everyone said I was fine. There were a bunch of empty seats in front of me if anyone wanted to move. Now, keep in mind that I don't even like the band, but I'm just having fun, the band even pointed to me a couple of times. All of a sudden this tall, thin, black man comes up from down on the lower level and absolutely SCREAMED AT ME to sit down. At first I thought he was kidding, because, well, he had to be, right? I leaned over and said jokingly, that if he could get me up front, I could get everyone dancing. He then SCREAMED AT ME, "Do you think this is a joke?? You SIT down right NOW!! He threatened to have me removed. It was like he was a prison guard or a drill sergeant. Absolutely verbally abusive. I'm 5 feet tall and he was bending over and screaming in my face! I couldn't believe it. I didn't fear him, (although I did think he may push me into my seat), he infuriated me. HOW DARE HE TALK TO ME LIKE THAT? I sat down, told him, "Way to be an asshole" and thought for about 7 seconds and ran after him...I caught him in the lobby and I lit into him. I don't remember exactly what I said, but I never swore or threatened, but I was MAD! I paid for that seat and I was going to dance in it. Then he said that they a complaint...I looked in his face, pointed my finger, and said, "LIAR! YOU are a LIAR! I don't remember where it went from there...I guess I was waiting for the police or something because he walked away and I was left talking to one of the ushers - maybe even the one that asked me to go to the aisle before. I asked if anyone had a problem if I went out to have a cigarette and they said I was fine, so as I was walking out, I saw the man (who turns out to be the freakin' MANAGER) that I was arguing with and the police. I told them where I was going and they had no problem with it. I came back in, the police said I was all set, could go back to my seat and I wouldn't have any more trouble. I went back and sat with my husband (who wasn't there when I was screamed at) and danced a little longer, but I was still angry, so we left and walked back to hotel for more drinks and dinner. I filed a complaint online, to the Palace and got a nice response saying "...he may have been a little harsh, but he had been constantly 'verbally abused' (a line that he got from my complaint about him) all night by the vaccination booth". Poor guy...I was told his supervisor was told on Monday (when they got my complaint), but HE was the supervisor, which is why the response I received was so lame. That man has anger issues. No one deserves to be talked to like that, especially when I'm sure the Palace is struggling during this time. I'm serious. Is he married and does he have kids? Because he has issues and I would check with his family. He verbally abused a customer of your theater. It was nothing short of that. I have anxiety issues and I've had to up my medication for the last couple of days because I am still so angry. read more

The Waterbury Palace Theater is a classic Art Deco concert and performance venue that was renovated a few years ago and is now open to the public in all it's splendour. I saw Peter, Paul, and Mary here a year or so ago and they were fabulous. Plus, Rob Zombie was in the audience (he lives in the area). You can't beat that. Like I said, the building is gorgeous and there are three bars. It can be a little expensive, though it depends on the show. I remember when Leonard Cohen as here it was like $80, but PPM were like $40. ...I saw Derek Trucks here and he was pretty good though kind of inconsistent. I just did some research and a lot of the shows are $40 for the majority of seats. Definitely a great place to take a few friends. Kinda awkward to go to a show alone here, but perhaps I am the only person who does that... read more

My wife and I attended the Alice.Cooper concert at the Palace last nite . The venue was very beautiful and clean and Alice Cooper 's performance was phenomenal and spot on . We had the best seats in the house and they were VERY EXPENSIVE ( pit AA) We were bewildered why 3 times during the performance people came up to us trying to say we were in their seats . The security guards did NOTHING to stop these people from harassing us during a stellar performance . My wife got two for one tickets through a third party for a Tuesday night performance of The Sound of Music - my daughter was sick and could not go on Tuesday - my wife was able to contact the theater and they switched the tickets to Friday night and honored the two for one deal - even giving them the same seats. The lady we dealt with on the phone was pleasant and followed through on contacting us in a timely matter. While I did not see the play my wife and daughter said that it was a great show and that the theater was beautiful and the staff all around very friendly and helpful. They will be back. read more

Although I do normally really like this theater I had to knock a star off. I went to see Book of Mormon for the first time now this was back in I think March or something. I have the playbill. Anyway, I didn't notice the sign until I was walking out because it was a small piece of paper with a warning so it was no wonder I missed it going in. Now even though I did enjoy what I saw of the musical and still remember certain songs, I had to leave during act two. The strobe lights were too much for me too handle. Now I can handle strobe lights if it's not overwhelming like the lion king or wicked but when strobe lights are constantly being thrown at your eyes and you don't really have a break and you miss the only warning going in, I think a warning should also be on the website. But that's just my opinion. I was fine going out. I got out before anything happened thankfully because I have a seizure disorder. It just kind of annoys me now because every time I'm interested in seeing a show at any theater other than Castle Craig Players I have to call and ask about strobe lights. read more

I was just here last night. I always love walking into the palace.. the dual marble staircases beckoning you in... the rich red carpet... the gold leaf.. you have to experience it to believe its beauty. The State of Connecticut spend $35 million dollars on this restoration and it has a lot of historical beauty surrounding it...you can feel the past! Last night, I found myself staring up at the ceiling, questioning how they would have cleaned all of those intricately marbled panels or even carved them. I started to dream about the types of fancy people who would have sat in the boxes to the side draped in velvet. It's just magical. The cool thing about this is that the palace, during performances, is staffed my volunteers. Gram and gramps type "employees" will help you to your seat, take your ticket and serve you inexpensive snacks. Be kind to them, they are retired from some hard working job and have taken the time to come and make our experience more enjoyable. The best part??? The drinks are super cheap. Where else can you get a 16oz draft, at a theater,sport event or the like for $4.00??? No where, I tell ya! (that probably was the reason for many many drunk people last night). Also, I have to politely disagree with the last poster on the lack of dinner choices. I am born and raised Waterbury/and right outside.... and although it is not NYC caliber, there are many places to eat. Such examples would be: 1. Cafe Biaggio 2. Zia Cucina 3. Drescher's 4. Bank Street Bistro 5. City Hall Cafe 6. Signatures 7. La Tavola 8. D'Amelio's 9. Diorio's 10. Lisboa For the cheaper appetite but still good: 1. Domenic and Pia pizza 2. Rose's Cantina 3. Boru's 4. Spartan 5. La Cazuela 6. Louie's Pizza 7. Chili's 8. TGI Friday's There are a few more but my brain is fried. All in all, The Palace is a real gem in the dramatic attempt to revitalize Waterbury. I feel that The Palace is bittersweet. I remember Waterbury when we could still walk to Holland Hughes (but it was crumbling....I remember it when it was "the slums"...I see it now trying to get to the surface to take a big gulp of air...I can only imagine..and stare at the marble...and think...What WAS it like way back when? When the streets were bustling with life. The woman in furs...the men in derby hats......how wonderful. read more

This is a beautiful theater, beautiful art design the walls, the sound is perfect and the lightning two. It has 2 bars one in the first level and the other one on the second floor. You can enjoy plays such as the phantom of the opera and much more. I personally would have given it 5 stars but the chairs on the second floor are not comfortable at all. If you are 5'3 to 6 feet be prepare to sit on small chairs. read more

Absolutely gorgeous theater, however the quality is anus-hororbills for live shows. Acoustics are the worst ever. Seating is way to small and cramped. I don't particularly mind people standing during it, since you can move around a bit. However staff are extremely over zealous and badly trained. Teenagers should not be staff for obvious reasons {IE: big shoot hormone driven males. That don't understand how to act in mature manor}. No camera policy is craptastic. Morrissey putting on a good show is the only reason this venue gets two stars. read more
