Gotham Hall is a FABULOUS event venue!!! We had our wedding at Gotham in June 2013. Allan Kurtz of Gotham Hall is one of the most incredible people I have ever worked with (and I've worked with some incredible people). He understands hospitality like no other. From the moment we met with him, his service was beyond top notch. He helped us with each step of the process, including advising us on which vendors to look in to (ie: florists, decor companies, etc) to the actual day-of managing. I cannot rave enough about him! And to those planning upcoming weddings or events...let me tell you: the people aka the talent behind the event are what make it or break it. Allan answers emails promptly and thoroughly, is excellent at managing people and problem solving, and has such a fabulous personality to boot. This guy keeps his cool, even when you're starting to lose yours in the planing process! You cannot buy his years of expertise in the business of hosting events. I must also say that the entire staff at Gotham follows Allan's leadership--everyone we dealt with was tip top. The venue itself is spectacular, and is the quintessential New York City backdrop. It's a classic venue, but is also unique in that it was once a bank which closed in the 1920's. My (now) husband and I are of the mindset that a hotel is a hotel is a hotel when it comes to weddings, so we searched for a venue that encompassed our love of classic New York, but was also not your typical hotel ballroom or private club. We wanted some character...but was also wanted classic...not the easiest combination to find. Having a creative background working in the entertainment biz, I was also looking for a venue where I could create the world I envisioned, as opposed to a more plug 'n play type of venue where floral choices and seating charts are as far as the customized planning goes. So Gotham was absolutely perfect for us, as we were truly able to create the world we wanted inside the beautiful bones of Gotham Hall. We even changed the carpet out, which was my first thought expressed to Allan when we came to see the venue for the first time... I say: "Sooooo...this carpet...it can't be moved, can it?" His immediate response: "You can have whatever carpet you want." For those interested--we actually placed a carpet of our choice (white) over top the existing one, which of course came at a cost. For the record, the in-house carpet is perfectly lovely (it's got a regal look) and fits the space beautifully. Again, we were just looking to create a highly specific world and execute a very customized vision. A lot of other "iconic" NYC venues have strict rules about what you can and cannot change about their space, which therefore makes every wedding/event look pretty darn similar...whereas Gotham was open to any and all of my ideas, even the "crazy" ones! And, of course, customizing to such a large degree incurs cost. But Allan was also a great touchstone in terms of helping us gauge our budget properly, and in helping us anticipate any "hidden" costs we may not have initially budgeted for. Overall, I feel I assembled a phenomenal team of vendors, and Allan at Gotham was a great help in advising us. I'm a big proponent in doing your research and spending a lot of time and work assembling your team...then letting them run with it and trusting in the talent and expertise of those you've hired! But back to Gotham Hall specifically! In closing: The architecture is spectacular. The interiors are classic and unique at the same time. The staff is top notch and fulfills your every need and wish, before you even realize you have them. The evening started out very disorganized! For being held by event coordinators, I expected a better check in process. If the coat check group can use iPads why can't the actual hosts? After we got our table and all settled, everything went much smoother. Food was basic finger food. Nothing fancy but something definetly to fill the belly. Having private bar in the Lounge was great. But even the bars in the main room weren't that long of a wait. Music was so-so. But we all had a great night. read more

Gotham Hall is a gorgeous venue in the heart of midtown New York City. Attended a wedding here in November 2013 and the venue, staff and food were superb. The cocktail hour was in the entrance space - you walk up these elegant stairs, are welcomed by courteous staff, and directed where to place your winter layers in the coat check. Nice space for a cocktail party - not too big, and very intimate. Our wedding event was in the main ballroom, then we went upstairs on returned to the cocktail area, while they flipped the room for the reception. when we returned for the party, there is a big stage where there was a live band, a large wood dance floor, and lots of space for tables and buffet too. overall , a glorious venue . read more

This venue is the Pits. The food and appetizers is fair at best very salty salad, and steak is dry NOT tender. The security is not friendly almost and you get the feeling like your watched everywhere, that is Gotham: blunt atmosphere of a MERRY GO ROUND with doors that look like a cell not fun nor creative at all. Plus its Overpriced. If you want beautiful architecture there are many other places in the city like IAC or ukrainian institute. I would not recommend this venue nor to any planners renting it. The same guy works there year after year.. Hope they run out of biz. Move elsewhere. read more

New Years Eve event. PROS- All tickets, no matter what level you got, included a 6 hour open bar, which was nice, and the bartenders were friendly and allowed you to order as many drinks that you could carry back to your table/friends with. The crowd was mixed - age and ethnicity which was great. CONS- The space itself is spectacular and very grand, but the service leaves much to be desired. We waited one and a half hours to get in and that was with VIP tickets! They had only one person with a paper list checking names/groups....(ridiculous) Possibly the worst DJ (DJ Michael Demby) on the planet. I am not sure if he was high, or just plain stupid, but the music selection was quite poor. He chose music that was frankly un-dance-able. He did not play any top 40 or any good dance/house beats. If you see a crowd not moving and giving you the finger, you should pay attention and play more relevant music! ITS A NEW YEARS EVE PARTY! PEOPLE WANT TO GET DRUNK AND DANCE! Because the space is so grand and built of stone, sound bouncing/echo is a major problem. You could always hear a second delayed beat wherever you stood, which isn't the DJ's fault, but more an architectural issue. My friends and I spent all this money to purchase a ticket to attend a Halloween party at this venue. This venue had no decorations what so ever. You would think, you are pointlessly charging people a lot of money for a halloween party that there would be some great decorations. The 'VIP' tickets we purchased were extremely pointless and we were all very disappointed. The only good thing was the music and our togetherness. We will not be returning for any future holiday parties here but It was a beautiful venue. read more

A lovely space, but awkwardly laid out. When the entire center is filled with tables at a party, you're going to find everyone squashed in the perimeter, i.e. the only place to stand and mingle. Also, the sound system does not seem well suited to the space--the speeches at our party were all echo-ey. read more

We had our holiday party here and I just love this venue. We have had our party here a few years ago but I think we had to switch it up to have in NJ the last two years because we have a large number of employees in NJ. Anyway, I hope we always have our party at Gotham Hall. The food was really really good. They had their Korean Beef Tacos that were so scrumptious. I could have eaten those all night. Our party had three stations and all had different things to offer but everything I had was very tasty. The desserts were also delicious. The banana cream pie was perfectly balanced with fresh bananas and a perfectly sweetened whipped cream on top. It was so good, I had two. And the Christmas cookies were delicious. Oh and did I say there were French macaroons? Also delicious. I was a happy happy reveler. And the space itself is gorgeous. The service was excellent too. I'm not sure if the DJ was a house DJ but THEY were also really really great, playing a fun mix of old tunes, new tunes and just did a wonderful job. If I have one negative to say, it's that the coffee was not hot. I'm still giving Gotham Hall five stars. The food was excellent and the venue was great. Please please please Fidelity Investments, let's always have our holiday party at Gotham Hall and don't ever have it at that nice hotel in NJ with boring, crummy food, ever again. I attended an event here and I love the look inside. The ceilings are high, theres a second floor balcony, and a circular floor plan. Theres alot of space so it didnt feel crowded at all. Might be nice for a wedding or a catered dinner. read more

After reading a few mixed reviews we finally decided to attend Gotham hall for New Year's Eve. It didn't take us long to queue and the whole process was swift and smooth. The building was decorated beautifully and it felt really grand. There were several bars which meant we were served really quick. We celebrated New Year 2015 here. Very unusual experience. Lets see what we got for our 550$ mezzanine VIP tickets for 2 people: 1. standing 30 mins in a line freezing to get in, 2. a reception girl spending 10-15 mins and still not being able to find our names in a booking list, 3. a couple of low-quality inedible prefab snacks, 4. very loud music in all halls, be it an overcrowded club hall or supposedly more private mezzanine hall, which turned out to be the same overcrowded and super loud mess, 5. coat check was. . extra 15$! As a guy told us "sorry, guys, we're another business"... 6. Our most expensive mezzanine VIP seated tickets... did not guarantee us any seats! all the halls were overcrowded and when we tried to sit in one of the halls, the guards asked us to find another place as this was reserved. 7. the whole place was so full of people that the standing in line to the bathroom took 15-20 minutes. After spending 30 minutes outside and about the same inside we gave up and left the place at 11.30 pm. I think booking a table in literally ANY cafe for 50 bucks is much more worth it. Gotham Hall New Year's Eve 2018 is like a sad retirement party or work party. The Dj was boring/horrible he did not play top 40 hits and the sound system sounds like your in a car with cheap speakers horrible. The vip lounge is like a room in a funeral home, very sad lounge space. BIG DISAPPOINTMENTMENT. People make a big deal about the event space and high ceilings I'm not impressed seen better around the world. The tables and chairs gave the event a cheap vibe should of been a bigger dance space. There was no live count down they should of had big screens up so you can see the count down in time square. BIG WASTE OF MONEY. read more

I was strongly considering having my wedding at Gotham Hall. It is a beautiful, unique venue and I am sure my guests would have loved the architecture and ambiance of the place. Unfortunately, the event manager that I was dealing with did not lend a lot of confidence. In our communications she had numerous errors in terms of pricing (saying one price and then saying another) and failed to respond to emails even when I said I was in the final stages of picking a venue. Gotham Hall. I always get swept up in the name "Gotham" referencing Batman of course but anyone that has been to Gotham Hall know what nothing about this venue is Batman like. Well, perhaps the REAL chilly central air system that they have in place might make it feel like a cave that Batman would call his home. Or even perhaps when serving a large and/or intimate affair one might notice that the lights get dim enough that would be suitable for two types of people, bats and those that don't require eyes to see. If you happen to attend this venue however a couple of things you should keep in mind. One, it is a beautiful space that has both a ground floor and a second floor balcony that gives you a wide panoramic view of the floor below it. Two, it is easily accessible from the B, D, F, M, and 7 trains to 42nd Street Bryant Park. Three, I read a few reviews about this venue mentioning about food and service. As a fellow server for some of the cater companies that hold events at this venue I must say that food and service or the lack thereof mostly rely on the companies themselves. The house staff that is staff hired by Gotham those I can't comment on but I can imagine their service may not be up to par depending on who is working that particular night. As far as the catering staff goes it really depends on which company is making, serving, and providing other services for the event. Either way I would estimate a cool 50 grand to rent this space out for the night. Cheap? I think not. Classy? Yes. Well worth it? I think so. read more

Wow. I've never seen a more embarrassed hostess! I was at Gotham Hall this weekend for a Mitzvah, and could not believe how disorganized and unkempt the place was. For some odd reason, management decided to stand a grouping of tables on END at the entrance, creating a kind of sloppy barricade that looked as if we were preparing for aliens to try to breach our hall (they mostly come out at night--mostly). Very, very unattractive and un-festive (what were they thinking??). We also heard someone in management (a tall, aggressive looking guy) berate a woman outside--for all to hear. It sounded like the woman had stuck her head inside for a peak or something. Though I appreciate the idea of keeping the riffraff out, it seemed pretty harmless to the rest of us, and not warranting management's physical shoving or yelling.
