I went to Gothic on several recommendations from friends. I read some bad reviews online but felt that my friends know what they're talking about. As usual, I find that I can't trust anyone's opinion but my own. :p My first impression was that the owner's wife and daughter (Gothic is a family owned business; Paul and his wife own the shop and employ their two daughters as artists) were sitting outside smoking butts. No biggie; I'm a smoker myself. But should they really be smoking outside the front door when they claim to be all clean and perfect? Kinda ew. Like, go to the back so people coming in aren't grossed out. Walking in the place, in the basement of an old building on Loudon Rd. in Concord, both my friend and I were taken aback at the well-lit, spacious business. It was super clean and open and bright, very professional looking. We were very impressed. I didn't have an appointment but the owner, Paul Florin, took my ID and money, and made me sign release forms, yada yada yada before getting down to business. It was obvious he was a straight forward and no-nonsense guy, very dry and almost bitchy. I didn't care; all I wanted was my nose pierced. He asked me to pick out the jewelry, of which they had like 5 options, and rushed me through it. Then he brought me back to the piercing room where we got to business. Like I said, he was very no-nonsense, so there was no chatting, no lightheartedness, no fluffy feelings. Just work. So he gets all his stuff together to do the job, and then I ask him, "Where are we going to put it?" I knew which side I wanted done, but I was unsure of the placement, and thought he'd have some sage advice. His response threw me a bit, he said, "Wherever I want. I'm the pro." He did mark the spot with a pen and let me check the area to make sure it was okay, and so he proceeded with the piercing. Personally, it wasn't too bad, it was fast, easy, I didn't bleed, etc. We were in and out in 10 minutes time. The reason for the 2 star review comes after the fact. I was sent home with strict instructions on care and followed them scrupulously. However about two weeks after having it done I got sick with a cold. I was doing alright until I woke up from sleeping, sneezing, and accidentally ripped the jewelry out. I FREAKED. I didn't want to pay to have it repierced after 2 weeks, but we were in the middle of a huge snowstorm, and half the state was closed. I stuck an ear earring in the hole to keep it open and called Gothic to ask their advice, and see if they'd be open for me to come down and have them put the jewelry back in (I couldn't get it in myself). I expected to get a call back right away since they're a service business and it was on a listed day that they were open. However I NEVER received a call back. I ended up going to Hot Topic in the middle of a blizzard because I needed SOMEthing to put in my nose, and the earring was super uncomfortable. After a couple of days I realized I could untwist the corkscrew myself and turn it into an "L" shape in order to get it back in myself. I *was* told to keep the jewelry in for 90 days, no excuses. Well, because that didn't happen, I did the best I could. I still haven't heard back from anyone at Gothic, let alone just the owner. I called a few times in those first few days after ripping my nosering out, but only left the one message. It's been maybe two months, and I do love my piercing, but feel it's a little crooked (the jewel sits out at an angle, but it's barely noticeable, maybe just to me since it's in MY nose, kwim? I do have a weird nose), and can't get passed the fact that this was some of the worst customer service ever. If you're not going to stand behind your work, why not just have a drive through? Why bother with all the aftercare instructions and ID checking? Overall, they're a clean facility, but looks can be deceiving. Just be prepared to deal with poor customer service and a guy who does "whatever he wants." After all, you're just the canvas. HE'S the professional. read more

This is the worst tattoo shop I have ever been in! The line work on my tattoo is absolutely horrible. Never let the male artist tattoo you!! Not only have I suffered from his "art", several of my friends have as well. The male artist, Paul, was not only rude to my friend and I, but also treated the woman who was drawing our tattoos up horribly. This should have been a red flag for me, but sadly I still went on to get my most regrettable tattoo. When placing my tattoo, Paul gave me attitude, and claimed that it was upside down and that he wouldn't have done this for me if it were five years prior. As said previously, the line work is horrible, uneven, and bled out. PLEASE look elsewhere for a tattoo. If i could give this place less than 1 star I would. read more

It's a pity nobody has reviewed this place lately since the change in ownership. It's now run by Melody(with her little apprentice Nina). They are both wonderful ladies and very talented! Though I lack actual tattoos my wife has gotten many of her tats done by Melody, and I've been blown away at how clean and colorful her work is! I've quickly become a fan thanks to my wife, and thanks to Melody's often hilarious attitude. She is very easy to work with and will totally brighten up your day. As a person with multiple body piercings, I would not recommend that anyone go here for piercings. I went in for a septum piercing. Once I met my piercer (the owner), I was immediately told that they could only guarantee '85% alignment' with the piercing, due to the 'difficult nature of septum piercings'. This makes sense, and I understood and accepted it. The owner did nothing to make me feel comfortable or welcomed. He was working on a tattoo in the other room when I came in, and I felt rushed. He did not use clamps with my piercing, and free-handed it with the needle. There was quite a bit of blood (more than usual), which I later found out meant that he nicked the cartilage! The piercing came out extremely crooked. Not only was the placement wrong, but the entry/exit points were on different levels. He instantly recognized this, and said that he would not charge me. While I was still in the room, he shouts out to his receptionist 'no more septum piercings, I'm done! you got that?!' This made me feel extremely upset, and was not professional in any way. I went to two other piercers the following days for advice, and took out the piercing in order to allow the hole to heal and get it re-pierced somewhere else. I called in advance and asked about septum piercings, and was told that they did them here. If the owner is inexperienced/not skilled at doing certain body piercings, they shouldn't advertise them! I know everyone's body is different, but the level of misalignment on my piercing is unacceptable. The biggest let down is that I now must wait until I can get my septum done. I have been going to Gothic tattoo for years I have had many tattoos done by Paul and by Brenda, I know pretty much go to Brenda we have become really good friends, they have a wonderful place everyone is friendly it's very clean which is such a plus, I have never had a bad experience at Gothic Tattoo and will continue to go there as long as they are still doing there awesome works of art and piercing... If someone did have a bad experience there I'm pretty sure it would probably have been their own fault, if the tattoo artist does not believe that something will work for you they will let you know and some people don't like to hear that so maybe that's where people are thinking that it was a bad experience, also piercing is not for everybody some body's just cannot handle the jewelry in their body it may reject it and that is no fault of the person doing the piercing at Gothic Tattoo.
