With my son's 16th birthday approaching, I wanted to do something special for him, especially since I'm recovering from back-to-back major surgeries in December and January. I figured the least I could do was order a custom cake. Being an elite Yelp reviewer (and having nothing but time on my hands), I did my research. Many bakeries claim to do custom cakes, but their websites have no photos, or their prices are outrageous. Then I found Gotti Sweet Cakes, a professional looking site with plenty of options. The website said to text for inquiries, which I did. To my surprise, I got a quick response. I thought, Great! This will be handled in advance, paid for, and stress-free. I was wrong. I reached out Friday to confirm before the weekend. No response. I followed up over the weekend. Still nothing. Monday came and went. Silence. Now I'm in a panic, my son's birthday is just days away, and I have no cake. After leaving a review on her site about the lack of communication, she texted me a nasty message, calling me a bad person and saying she was glad she wasn't doing business with someone like me. Excuse me? All I wanted was a confirmation. Five days of radio silence is not how you run a business, especially when someone is depending on you for a special occasion. Let me be clear: I'm not bashing this business. Her cakes may be phenomenal based on other reviews. But communication matters, and she completely dropped the ball. If this happened to me, it could happen to you too. Now, with only a few days left, I have no idea how I'm going to find another cake in time for my son's big day. Laruen designed a beautiful cake for my 65th birthday party in royal blue, gold, and white. It was without a doubt the most delicious cake I have ever eaten. The top tier was lavender, and the bottom was orange cream. I don't know how she does it, but both the cakes were the absolute best tasting cakes ever. If you (business owner) are overwhelmed and want people to know not to expect to hear from you for days than you should probably indicate that on your website or social media. Don't act irritated when people follow up the next day. With most businesses requiring a two week notice, we (the customer) need to know if you can/can't do it, so we can find someone else if you can't. Again, if you have an expectation of when you will get back to customers, let your customers know this. It'll help you manage your workload, lessen the number of follow up calls, and give your customers a better experience. read more

My last visit definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. Pun intended. Rebecca (the owner) reached out to me and I didn't respond for a few weeks. I wanted to randomly pop into the shop and see if there were any changes. I'm glad I did. The macaons are back to their airy sweet selves. I was fully refunded for my previous order and given macarons to go. This was about a week ago, and I meant to update sooner but I've been slammed at work. If I could give 10 stars I would I have been going to Gotti Sweets since Feb 2020. We buy a dessert of some sort every few months, any special occasion, sometimes just for fun. I have never liked scratch made cakes, but when I found Lauren's bakery and did a tasting for my wedding I was BLOWN AWAY. My personal favorite flavors are pink champagne, Bavarian cream, red velvet and chocolate ganache. Her buttercream is perfect. We also love her macarons! We love, love, love Gotti Sweets. On somewhat short notice, we ordered three dozen macarons from Lauren. We picked them up and they were beautifully packed and boxed. We had three different flavors. The plan was to take them on a long trip to visit family. We got to Spokane and realized we forgot them. They were in our fridge for three weeks. When we got home I gave a dozen to our fabulous pet sitter and have been relishing our two dozen. The flavors are amazing and they tasted so fresh. I wish my family had gotten to taste them. I plan to order more from her. Lauren is a great baker and loves to work with her customers to create culinary experience. Oh, watch her on the Great Halloween Baking Championship on Food Network. They have a lot of different flavors and options which make you want to try them all. Friendly and efficient service too. I mentioned that I sent a text earlier as the phone message suggested. She answers..."Ummm my orders are booked out 2-3 weeks in advance; it says so on my website". I replied that I did not see it on there. She responds..."I guess I need to put it in a banner at the top of my page". I then found it and said, "here it is, it is at the bottom of your page". She then starts to laugh at me! All I have to say is that the higher you climb, the harder you fall. People will not keep buying her cakes if she continues her disrespectful demeanor with people. I have now had to tell her to stop contacting me because it's becoming harrassment. She has also brought race into my one star review and is accusing me of doing it because she is black. She brought it up multiple times. I tried to explain that I wrote her with my son in mind not the color of her skin, which I didn't know until she told me multiple times. She has completely lost her mind over a one star review she deserved based on communication alone. I sent a follow up email after 3 days and she lost it. She has bombarded my email with nasty race baiting emails. I am standing by my original review with all my might now because she has really showed what kind of unprofessional "buisness owner" she is. Shame on you. This review is 100% about the communication with this bakery not their treats. If you email about a custom order the owner Lauren, (who is very busy doing a lot of other things per her own words) only responds certain days of the week and definitely not around Holidays. If you wait a few days and send another email she will shame you and make you feel bad for contacting her buisness. She was extremely passive aggressive and does not represent her company in a good light at all. I encourage you to read some of the one star reviews because unfortunately I wasn't the only one with an issue like this. Helpful suggestion Lauren, maybe hire someone to take on the calls and emails since you are unable to. Placed my order 3 weeks in advance. During the question and answer about the order I did not receive confirmation that my order and it's content would be readily available as I would like. In addition I did not receive information about my cookies being bagged in individual bags with a additional charge. Communication was lacking there of. Then 3 days before my event, I received a long message stating she would have to move others orders around to maintain our orders and that she would make the cookies the night before instead of the day of like she usually does to maintain freshness. We just decided to cancel and requested a refund. She was prompt in giving the refund but I do not recommend this business if you need a cake/cookies within 3 weeks.. Ordered a small round cake for my mom's 96th birthday - pink champagne cake, strawberry lemon compote, buttercream frosting. First, it was gorgeous... flowers with some tastefully placed sugar spheres (don't know what to call them!) and writing on top. The cake was so beautiful and smooth that it almost looked like a fake cake! But the real icing on the cake (couldn't resist... :) was how delicious it was! The cake was light and moist, the filling just the right amount of tart/sweet and the buttercream? perfection! At room temp, it was dreamy light. I froze some cake, and the buttercream was like ice cream that didn't melt. I tell ya, my mom is not a big dessert person plus she is bird sized and eats like one. But after birthday dinner, we both had a piece. And then had a second piece. And then a third piece and we had to talk ourselves into stopping!
