I can't believe this place has been in business for 11 years and we'd never eaten here. When I tell you the good is off the chain, it is so good. Hubby and I stopped by last week and was pleasantly surprised upon entering the establishment, really nice esthetics. We ordered the 50.00 desk which gave us 2 Entrees and 4 sides plus a dessert. The food was so good. Seasoned perfectly, came out hot and freshly cooked. Their alcoholic drinks were super good also. We will definitely go here again, was well worth it.

Starting with the positive, the food. Very tasty. HOWEVER.... The food isn't cooked to order. Our fried chicken wasn't hot, like freshly fried. Our sides had been in a warmer, pre-packed in styrofoam. Speaking of styrofoam, there are no plates and bowls in the restaurant. All meals are served in Styrofoam as though they are takeout, even if you are eating in. There is no flatware, only plastic knives and forks rolled in paper napkins. Sorry, GOURMET Soul, but if you're a catering company, be a catering company. Advertising a dine-in establishment with no cooks in the kitchen, and no plates or flatwear? Glassware for liquor but to-go cups for everything else? Absolutely Ridiculous. St. Louis needs a good soul food DINING option. Gourmet Soul ain't it. And the server who came to work in workout attire and a waist trainer ... bad attitude. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNmkujWO0ld/?igsh=MWNpMWNtcGprMGsxaA==

Perfect spot for some good food! The outside of the building was unique and definitely stood out. When we walked in I was amazed how beautiful everything was on the inside. So clean, organized, very welcoming!! I wish I sat at the bar or could stay longer so I ordered the food to go. It was a couple other tables in there eating and I forgot to tell yall, when I walked in it smelled so good! That was my cue to stay. So I ordered the chicken wings, Mac and cheese with sweet potatoes. 10/10. The sweet potatoes wasn't too sweet either! Enough for me to eat more and not feel bad!

My best friend and I came to St. Louis for the first time and this restaurant was right around the corner so we decided to check it out. We were seated immediately. The staff were friendly and they knew a lot about the menu. The restaurant was cute intimate and it was not crowded at all. The bathroom was also very clean. We ordered the fried catfish fried wings some fries, couple shots and a drinks. The fried catfish was fried to perfection. I think we got the sweet-and-sour catfish and wings, it was delicious. We told ourselves we would return because the staff were so friendly and engaging and the food was great. We just didn't have time but I highly recommend.

The food was delicious I had the bowl with Salmon, shrimp, Mac and Cheese and Creol Rice. I was very impressed and satisfied I apologize, I forgot to take a picture before I devoured it all This place is a hidden gem in downtown St. Louis. The service was fast and friendly. The ambiance inside is inviting and laid back soulful.

Looking for some lunch while in town, Yelp led me to Gourmet Soul. The only parking option I could find was metered street parking in front. Inside it's a nicely decorated table service restaurant giving an upscale feel to it. I ordered the pork chop with mac n cheese chosen as the included side dish. Cost was $12. Yep, that's not a misprint. Here the drinks are canned so I got a tea but thought it's weird to come to a soul food restaurant and get tea in a can. The manager came by and apologized that the meal would be served in to go containers because their ordered dinnerware had not been received yet. The meal came out in less than 10 minutes. The pork chop was small in size (like a breakfast pork chop) with brown gravy on top. The meat was tender and good tasting. The mac n cheese had a brown crust on top and was absolutely delicious. I understand it's their most popular side dish and I see why. I gave this meal a 3.5. Yes it's inexpensive. That can of Lipton tea was only $1.50 and $12 for an entree is cheap and the food tasted good. It would have been nice if the pork chop was a little larger or how about a scoop of white rice with some of that brown gravy on top? I will round up for Yelp purposes in this case and would consider returning if in the area.

If you're looking for soulful eats, you've found it! A whole can of Lipton Brisk Tea followed by a meal that will get you ready for a nap! Old Bay Bowl which comes with Fried Salmon and Creole sauce, 3 Shrimp on top of Rice AND Mac n Cheese! Did you see the AND! I couldn't leave here without having the Collard Greens and Sweet Potatoes so I added those 2 sides. All of it was full of life and each bite was enjoyable. Once I found out they had Peach Cobbler for dessert, I couldn't leave yet. Yes, I had it! It gave crispy flaky bits with the sweet peaches. An amazing end to an awesome meal! Happy Eating!

I ordered the fried fish, mac & cheese and candied sweet potatoes. Delicious! Small dining room, fully stocked bar, nicely decorated and clean. I was greeted when I entered. Waited about 5 minutes to place an order. Reasonable wait time for my food, it was fresh and hot. Definitely worth the money!

We have been wanting to check this place out anytime we visited St. Louis but our times never lined up or they would sell out. This trip all things lined up for us to give them a try. The staff were really friendly and checked on us often to see if we needed anything. I ordered the chicken wings and Mac & cheese. The first thing I wanna say is $10 for 5 wings is cheap! The wings were delicious, they were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The sweet and spicy sauce we got on the side was good and the sweet and heat had a nice balance where one flavor didn't take over the other. The Mac & cheese was good and I love I got some of the baked part that comes on top. My husband ordered the fish and greens. The fish was perfectly seasoned and it was nice and flaky. The greens tasted like someone's grandma from Mississippi was in the kitchen making them. This is a true soul food spot! If you have not been you need to go! I definitely see what the hype is about. This is an affordable soul food place. Most places are gonna charge you double and the food isn't even half as good as this place.

I have an unnatural love for soul food. Unfortunately, I live in an area with "okay" soul food offerings. FOOD: I ordered the Sweet and Spicy wings with a side of collard greens. I really like the sweet and spicy sauce that they used on the wings. It wasn't too sticky. And the sauce had a nice kick to it without being too overwhelming. I think the flavors balanced each other really well. The collard greens were nice. The collard greens were really good. You could tell that they wash their greens and probably soak them. OVERALL: 10/10! I absolutely would come again.

This was unexpectedly sad. First the don't have cornbread they have dressing. It's the middle of April so the cook can make a effort to cook dressing but not cornbread. Ok the dressing was over cooked it was burned on top and on bottom. They issue you the tiniest cranberry sauce smaller than a teaspoon. Like why? They could have kept that. Next was the watered down candy yams. Some of us call them sweet patatoes nevertheless let's call them what they are water and patatoes. Now the last thing I had was chicken wings. The chicken has flavor but they gave under cooked chicken. Undercooked chicken can kill you. I tell yall im so disappointed this is a soul food restaurant I wanted to report good things. This is very sad. Yelp buddy With the power YELP has invested in me I issue them one star. Smh the one thing I hate is having to cook food when I get it home. Even after looking at the chicken I found a feather on one. Yes I added pictures of me recooking to half raw chicken. Smh

While visiting this area we stopped by. The food was amazing. The atmosphere was welcoming. They were busy but tried to be so attentive. The food had so much flavor. The baked chicken was my favorite. We did enjoy the peach cobbler and think anyone would enjoy this place.

This was first time at the restaurant. I love the dining area, very intimate and cozy. The service was great! Always available and refilled our waters. I had the candied yams, collard greens and oven baked chicken wings. The greens were so tasty and flavorful as well as the yams. The chicken wings were seasoned and cooked to perfection. I ordered the lamb chops, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese for my husband. He really loved all of them. I loved the cut of the lamb chops, the mac and cheese was so savory. I wanted to try the Old Bay Bowl which comes with fried salmon and creole sauce. It was not offered on Sundays. This is a nice place to visit with family and friends.

Of course the inside is beautiful and spacious. The service was really amazing from my good friends that work there Bri and Jay!! Drinks: *The Cornbread Sermon - My favorite- definitely unique in a sense that actual cornbread was used in Woodford reserve. *Bayou Breeze - this was a NA drink. Floral forward. The thyme and elderflower you can really taste. Food: *Crab Beignets - AMAZING!! I wanted more than 3. Had a nice crunchy crust but soft on the inside. The lemon aioli was really good as well with it. *Lucy Q Big Plate - great way to experience trying all the meats they other. Only complaint was that the brisket was a bit dry. This also come with two sides which had that Mac n cheese and greens. The Mac was cooked right and very cheesy but to me it needed salt and pepper. The greens were really good. Dessert: *Salted Bourbon Caramel Cheesecake - ABSOLUTELY AMAZING - I wanted not a slice but the whole cheesecake! The cheesecake itself was soft and decadent but that salted bourbon caramel drizzle tasted really good. *Caramelized Banana Pudding Cake - this was a good dessert too. Shout out immediately to the Drinks Menu which is very creative, tasty and with a kick! We started with the Bread service and Caesar Salad. Next the Gnocchi was Soo rich and creamy and I would definitely order this again, it is reminiscent of Mac n Cheese but elevated. Onto the Crawfish Pie, was not really sure what to expect but it delivered! Handheld flaky crust pie packed with crawfish stuffing and served with a sort of stewed tomatoes on the side. The stewed tomatoes were definitely something I would not have ever selected but nice. Service was very attentive!! The menu is Southern eclectic bordering Tapas which I enjoyed.
