    Nachos
    Ashley R.

Came here after a concert because this was the closest thing open late downtown. It was very crowded and the wait was about 20 minutes for food. I ordered nachos thinking it would be quick but still a long wait. Not a big deal. The seating area was big enough for a typical day but since this was after a concert, the seating was limited. The staff was nice. My nachos were really good. I asked for beef but I think it was gyro meat and it was so good. My friend ordered shrimp and really enjoyed them as well. We would come back if we are in the area.

    Chicken Tender (3 piece)

This place is so yummy! We got the chicken and it is probably the best chicken tenders we've ever had. Not only was the food delicious but the service was amazing. The worker who was helping us check out and handing out food out was so sweet and helpful. We were there during a tornado warning and she was incredibly kind and eased our fears. Fantastic place we would totally recommend it and go again!

Stopped in on a whim and ended up finding one of those hidden-in-plain-sight gems. The bowl I ordered was next-level good -- fresh, perfectly seasoned, and built like someone actually cared about flavor, not just filling space. The textures danced -- crisp, creamy, hearty -- and each bite felt like it was designed to make you smile. You can taste the pride that goes into the food here. I'm still thinking about that bowl the next morning -- that's how you know it hit right. But the real highlight? Jay -- the absolute rockstar behind the counter. This guy is what customer service should look like. He's quick, sharp, and brings that kind of energy that makes you feel like you're the reason he showed up to work. He nailed the balance between professional and genuinely cool, checked in mid-meal, and somehow made a counter order feel like fine dining. Jay turned a simple meal into something memorable -- not many people can do that. If every spot had a "Jay," eating out would always be this good. Great food, even better people. STL City Grill just jumped to the top of my downtown list. I'm telling everyone I know -- skip the chains and come here instead. -- Terry

The customer service was great, the area was clean and it felt safe. They have a variety of exotic drinks and slushies!

The atmosphere was a vibe, the food was okay, it needs some seasoning. The cashier needs a raise because he is so awesome!

Yesterday, at Schlafly Tap Room, I did just that. My excuse is that I didn't read the menu as closely as I should have. I don't read well anyway, and it was late on what had been a long, difficult Monday--a manic Monday, if you will. I wished it was still Sunday. I'd just run five miles with a group that meets once a month, on the third Monday. But they alternate between here and another location, so they're not here that often, and after last night, they might not be back. Also, they might not offer a burger that comes on a regular bun. I know they have a few sandwiches that come on hoagie rolls or toast. If they just happened to a random, lone hamburger bun in the back for some reason, perhaps for emergencies, it would have been easy enough to ask them to use that instead. Their Tap Room Burger, or whatever they're calling it, is a decent-size sandwich. It just seems small because the English muffin they use isn't any bigger than one you'd get with, say, an Egg McMuffin. But the meat is nice and thick (ayo) and hangs out over the side of the, erm, bread a little bit. It's a shockingly high quality beef, better than on the last several steaks I've eaten, for what it's worth. They actually asked how I'd like it cooked. I requested medium, and would you believe they actually cooked it medium? I order a steak mid-rare, but I find that a burger benefits from just a bit more time on the grill. I'm no savage. It comes with a weird shredded lettuce (possibly a KFC Shredder) that doesn't contribute any value and a mild, melty white cheddar that's really good and really complements the beef. Clearly, the idea is for the meat to be the dominant flavor. The English muffin is neither very good nor very bad, as far as these things go. It's just a regular ol' English muffin, like you might find in a grocery store. It would have been better if it were toasted (or toasted more?) and buttered, but the butter in particular might have overpowered the subtle flavor of the beef. I suppose that if they only had one guy who knew what he was doing, it was for the best that they had him working the kitchen. The guy they had taking orders was out of his depth. You'd think that this was his first day, except he had all of these weird systems. He was very adamant that no one switch seats, like in a certain kind of fire drill, lest he get the orders mixed up. Which was very thoughtful of him, I guess, but the way he said it was like we'd done something wrong, or were in jail. He tried to count how many people wanted water (in a group of people who just ran five miles in 80-degree weather), lost count, then asked, by show of hands, who *didn't* want water. He accidentally brought an extra beer and then, instead of just leaving it for someone to drink, let us know he was gonna go pour it down a drain. LOL what a spazz. It's tragic, because this is a fairly easygoing group. All of the really crazy people I know are in another group I run with. He didn't screw anything up that badly, but he would have been better off if he did and he had a more likable personality. Hopefully, he took that extra beer in the back and drank it himself. That may have been what he needed.

Street parking is almost always available near the brewery or across the street by the Lafayette Square fountain. Although a brewery, they also have a full bar when you walk in with a gorgeous arch window behind. You can grab a drink while you wait for your table. Their Strawberry Fields cocktail is really good! (Strawberry Basil infused Regatta Bay Gin, St. Elder, lemon, orange bitters, club) In this case, we went for brunch! We sat on their patio and ordered Mimosas and a Bloody Mary to drink. For food, we enjoyed omelets and pancakes. The pancakes were huge! I liked that the Seafood Omelet had hollandaise sauce on top. This is a big space and you can through a glass wall in the main dining area where they brew the beer which is neat! I recommend ordering a beer flight if it's your first time here so you can try a variety of their brews. Usually the flight includes your choice of four beer selections. Service here isn't anything exceptional but nothing bad either. Expect to wait a bit if coming for brunch Saturday or Sunday.

Entering the courtyard patio is lovely as there is some nice landscaping and water features that make it quite tranquil. There are tables of various sizes there or you can go inside where there's standard dining tables or in yet another area is the bar. It almost feels like three restaurants in one. I highly recommend sitting out in the courtyard patio if you're able to. It really is lovely. We had a group of people and our server, Kelly, was great! She took good care of us, and made recommendations. I was really impressed with the support staff who swiftly swapped out our empty water carafes for fresh, cold ones. I started with a bloody Mary with roasted garlic vodka. It was such a unique mix of flavors and I really enjoyed it. I decided for my brunch that I would have the buttermilk pancakes and scrambled eggs. I was pleasantly surprised that they offer sugar-free syrup, if you ask. My dining companions ordered the black bean breakfast and the Florentine omelet, and everyone seemed happy with their choices. I will definitely be back.

I have to agree it was quite delicious, very well balanced and a nice refreshing summer drink. We shared 3 apps: grilled summer squash, sourdough focaccia, and pork belly skewers. The first two were really good and highly recommend. Such a nice mix of fresh summer flavors in the squash dish and really enjoyed the romesco butter that came with the bread. For me I could have liked the pork belly more crispy as it was fairly soft in texture not that crunch I like in pork belly dishes but others at our table really enjoyed it. Moving to entrees, I got the lobster donut roll, others at table got the crab pasta and shrimp puttanesca. I just had to try to lobster donut roll but my expectations weren't high as sounds kind of gimmicky and it really wasn't for me the lobster is served cold (Maine style) and I found it to be pretty fishy in taste for my liking. The fries I ordered with it on the other hand were very delicious nice savory flavor and perfectly crispy. From all the plates we got it seemed the crab pasta was the way to go a bit of an elevated Mac and cheese (more sophisticated than that) next time I'd order that. Service was good they paced our food well and were around when we needed something. Modern Instagram worthy ambience. All round good experience!

The worst aspect is the ventilation which needs much work. We came out smelling so greasy and smokey. We seated ourselves and waited a minute for our waitress to assist us. She also didn't know how to make a drink, with that being the case why are you allowed to make any cocktails. I hate going to a spot where I make drinks better than the bartenders on hand and that's your job. The BF ordered the the garlic burger and I ordered the Korean wings which NEVER came out because our waitress forgot to order them. So I shared food with the BF.
