I was recommended to Govero by a coworker who had gone specifically for a "curly cut". The transformation they made with their hair over a 6 month period or so was astonishing! When I set the appt I asked for Taryn as that was who I was recommended to. She is a curly specialist and WOW was she knowledgeable. Overall my experience with her was top notch. Taryn gave me an overview of what would happen during the appointing and has a big focus on client education. She walked me through every step and every product. Note: I am sensitive to scents due to having migraines and she was so respectful of this. Taryn had me smell the hairbath and conditioner to make sure it was not too strong before we even started. Taryn told me about the products and how and why you use them including the order and what they do for you. She educated me on how to get your curls looking your best. Overall, if you have curly or wavy hair and want to know how to take care of it and what it could look like at its best - GO HERE NOW! The education alone is worth every dollar!!! Sadly for me I learned 2 things I didn't anticipate: 1) I have a natural swirly in the back of head that will just kinda have a bald spot, its not just the way I style it 2) I was apparently already doing a fairly decent job, though Taryn did take my curls up a notch :) read more

This salon is well-known for having one of the only Level 3 DevaCurl stylists in the St. Louis area, so as someone blessed/cursed with curly hair, I wanted to check them out. Pros- decent haircut, super friendly stylist with AMAZING product knowledge. Cons - my haircut and deep condition took over FOUR hours!! She began my apt right before 4pm and I didn't leave till 8:30. While it's clear that Victoria knows curly hair like the back of her hand (and IS the curl care expert), a four hour haircut isn't an awesome sounding time commitment for anyone. I booked a follow up appointment for a few months from now - hopefully this time it won't be so time consuming! read more

Well no haircut for me. This review is 100% for Zach Taylor. The salon itself was beautiful but I didn't get to experience it beyond sitting in the reception area, and the bathroom. After being kept waiting a half hour he stylist goes "Christine? Sorry for the wait.." I said "I mean, it would've been ok but I was scheduled for 6:15 and nobody even checked on me for a half hour" he says "well I had you down for 6:30". Not I'm sorry for the mixup, not we will make it right, just shifting blame! SoI said "I have the confirmation text; is there someone I could take that up with cause it really isn't okay" and he storms off, comes back a minute later and roughly grabs my hair and says "so what are we doing with the cut" all pissed off like and I reply well "I'm scheduled for a curly cut" and he goes "yeah, and???" And I start to say "I've never had one before, so can you walk me through but then I realize how rough and mean he's being and say "and we are done here, I'm not having someone who's pissed off cut my hair" then I walked out. I thought this place was going to be great and was really excited to get my first curly cut. I'm 8 months postpartum so I don't get to do a lot for myself right now and my hair really, really needs the love. I wanted to book with Victoria, who the website mistakenly has listed as an owner, but she wasn't available until Tuesday and I also just ran out of product (I use oribe) so I didn't want to wait to restock. Looks like I should have just waited because Zach Taylor was late, and super rude. I get everyone has a bad day but I even saw him take five minutes to check his phone before going to the receptionist- it just showed he didn't care about making me wait because it was in plain view of customers, AND 10 minutes past what he claimed to have me scheduled for. If the ownership of this salon would like to contact me to make this right, I would welcome it as I really wanted to like this place, and I understand sometimes there are employees that need retraining. I called in the morning to reschedule my wife's appointment that was at 3 pm spoke to a guy he said no problem! Well it was a problem when you charge me 150$. Never going back there nor recommend at least for my big family. I paid 300$ for my wife's hair that she was not happy at all about but I didn't care cause she got service but when you don't get service and Get charged 150$ even with calling them 6 hours ahead that's ridiculous I think might be wrong. I had a curly girl haircut and treatment with Victoria last night. You know that scene in the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy visits the beauty salon in Oz? That's exactly how I felt! Victoria talked with me at length about my routine, my problem areas, and the look I'm trying to achieve with my hair. After Victoria performed a dry cut, she and Ashley gave me a deep cleansing and conditioning treatment, dried and styled my hair. Every step of the way, they explained what they were doing and made recommendations for my routine and products to use. My hair felt and looked amazing- and still does the next morning! The salon staff are friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is relaxing. I will definitely be returning for my cuts and treatments! read more

This is a review for eyelashe extensions only. I got my eyelashes done on 10/24 with my Groupon deal. I forgot the name of the lady who did my lashes but she was very friendly and polite. She went ahead to apologise for the noises coming from the construction next door which was very nice of her. The salon itself is very clean, modern and lively. Unfortunately though, the outcome of the eyelashes was the worst I've ever had...by 10/31, I had about 30% left on my original lashes. It was very disappointing because I had a photoshoot that day and my lashes looked absolutely ridiculous. I'm from Tokyo and eyelashe extensions are big there. I had had them pretty much non stop for about 10 years until I moved here two years ago. This was my first attempt to get lashes done here but I know what to and not to do to make the lashes last long. (Like I wear swimming goggles for the shower in first two days and switch my make up remover to non-oil type. I even stopped sleeping on my stomach in order to protect my lashes.haha) What made it really awkward is that my deal came with fill...which I had an appointment at their Clayton location since this location is much closer to where I live. Fill appointment was made for 11/15 and my extensions were absolutely gone.(it was long gone after 2 weeks. I know how long it last depends on each individuals but three weeks is my usual refill time based on my 10 years experience with the lashe extensions.) I finally got a courage to tell them the situation on the day of my appointment and was told that I would have to contact the technician at Des Peres myself to see what the technician is willing to do. Since I don't drive (means expensive Uber ride to go to Des Peres location) + was really not comfortable seeing the same lady again for possibly another bad experience, I gave up and simply cancelled my appointment. The thing that was even worse than this unfortunate eyelash outcome was how disassociated the Clayton staff was regarding the situation when I called them right before my fill appointment. It really should not be the customer's responsibility to communicate between the salons which are owned by the same people. (I think?) Let alone speaking to the technician and complain to her directly... I was also told that whose technicians are working independently so it's really not up to the salon to deal with this. Well, you should not put the salon's name on the Groupon deal since I choose this place based on the salon's high review on Yelp in the first place. I would have googled the technician's info to see what "she" is capable of. I don't expect every service to be always perfect and I understand that unfortunate situation can happen. But I believe how business handles a bad situations like this really shows the quality of service and care for the customer. read more

I went to see Victoria for a Devacut appointment and deep conditioning service. She's currently the only deva-certified stylist in St. Louis, so I was super excited to see her. One thing that I loved was how she did a really great job with putting moisture back into my hair. The winter weather had done a number on my hair and it was super dry, undefined and frizzy, but after getting a deep conditioning treatment ($35), my hair was shinier and my curls formed a lot better with little frizz. She seemed to really care about the health of my hair, instead of just making it look good for the day. She also offered a one week "warranty" if I styled my hair myself and wanted a touch up on the cut, which was really nice and something I've never had a stylist offer before. However, I wasn't too thrilled about my cut. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't really what I had in mind, especially considering how specific I was about what I wanted. I was also surprised to see that she didn't do the standard curl-by-curl cut method that deva stylists are known for. I actually wanted more hair cut, but I was nervous about losing too much length and volume because of her technique. I'm not sure if she has a lot of experience with kinkier textures (3C and up), but I was hoping she'd get in there, separate my hair and give each curl the attention it needed. I ended up leaving feeling like I could have gotten the same cut from any well-trained and experienced stylist, and likely for less money. I also thought it was kind of odd that the deep conditioning was extra, considering that it's usually standard with a devacut service, but maybe my hair was just too dry for a "regular" deep conditioning service. I'd definitely go back to see Victoria to manage the health of my hair. She really gave my hair the time and attention it needed, and she definitely brought my curls back to life in just one session. However, I'm still on a journey to find the perfect stylist for my hair. read more

I scheduled a haircut for a Saturday morning and they called me 2 days later to tell me that the stylist "had been booked a long time ago for a wedding party and the time I booked wasn't available". That's ridiculous and I feel like they had a big wedding party book their salon only to cancel the other appointments on the schedule. I really like the cut I get there, but it's not worth the scheduling hassle. I had the same problem the first time I went there too. The times available for my family were hours apart. read more

I don't get haircuts very often because it's so hard to get a good curly cut. I hadn't had one in over 6 months but with curly hair it's a little easier to get away with that. So, I did my research. Had an appointment at one salon and chickened out the day of. I was just so afraid of being disappointed. Then I finally took the plunge with Victoria and am so glad I did. The only thing was even though I knew it would take a while, I was surprised I was there for 3 hours. No, I didn't have to wait beforehand, it just took that long. Granted it was my first time here and it had been a while since I'd had a cut so I'm okay with that. It was worth it. I have been waiting a few days to get used to my curly cut and to make sure it was good and didn't need any corrections. I am as happy today if not more so than the day I got it cut. No more frustration in the morning when I'm doing my hair. I love looking at it in the mirror! Just a really great curly cut. Now, I never did get my hair cut as often as most people but I know I don't have to wait 6 months for my next cut because I now know where to go. I will go back to Victoria at Govero Salons. P.S. I came here for a quick blow dry but was blown away by the service I received. Nick is a consummate professional. I could tell that he LOVES doing Hair. Nick spared no details while blow drying my hair. He quickly figured out my hair texture and picked the best products to get rid of my frizz, using a boat brush ( which requires more labor) he smoothed my hair and then painstakingly flat ironed it to perfection. If I could give a million stars, I would! I scheduled my appointment with Heidi Kelleher, and she went above and beyond what I thought possible for a stylist to do. I came in with severe dark roots and lots of dark color from over the past year from shadow roots and lowlights wanting to get back to my all over platinum white blonde color that I so desired. My appointment was at 7pm, and while I didn't expect to get so much out of the shorter time slot, Heidi was not going to let that stop her. She wanted me to leave happy and very close to what I wanted! She took time to explain everything that she was doing and how many appointments it would take for me to ultimately get back to where I wanted. The fact that she took her time to get everything done right was amazing! I've never had a stylist like her before. We were the last ones in the salon that night, because she stayed super late with me in order to help achieve what I wanted. I could not have asked for a better stylist who is dedicated to their work and their customer's satisfaction. Not only was she an amazing stylist, she's an amazing person inside and out, and I feel like I've gained a friend! I brought pics and asked for "big, sexy hair; Victoria kept saying "Yes, I can totally do that." Instead, I got "Uncle-Cecil's-compacted steel-coil-springs-with-complimentary-male-pattern-baldness." She finished with my hair and smiled as if ruining lives is her vocation. I think that Victoria simply does not know how to style hair for Black women. She overestimated her skills, and she didn't listen. When everything hit the fan, she blamed everything and everyone but herself. I know from research that Victoria was supposed to cut each individual curl, but I definitely saw her cheating and cutting hunks of hair all at once. It was a disaster: I looked like a 50-year old man, the hair crouched on my head like a noxious toad. I sobbed in the chair. I sobbed in the bathroom, trying to figure out how in the heck Victoria ever met my Uncle Cecil. I sobbed as I got a complimentary makeup application (I don't wear makeup, but I was crying too hard to drive 75 miles back home through heavy traffic and the apprentice, Tina, was super comforting). I cried the makeup right off my face in five minutes - not that it would ever have made up for the awful hairdo. Victoria is a hot ghetto mess: her whole obsession was getting super-tight curls, which gave me about 80% shrinkage. She compressed the hair so much I thought she was trying to turn it into diamonds. She tried to fix it for all of sixty seconds, then quit and passed me off to her apprentice. She literally abandoned me and went off to service another customer. And when I was finally composed enough for the 75-mile drive home, she came over and hugged me as if we were close friends. My REAL friends saw my hair and offered to help bury Victoria where her body could never be found, and I think they were serious, so I rejected their proposal. Victoria never offered a discount and she didn't even try to bring in a manager. Honestly, she needs to stay away from Black women's hair because she is clueless. I paid $95 and got trolled hard. Victoria, listen to me: stay away from Black hair. That's way out of your wheelhouse, sweetie. read more

I've never been so moved to write a review of any establishment before but my first experience here was so disappointing. My stylist was friendly enough and seemed to care about my hair and what I wanted. We discussed the plan and while I was nervous to go darker, my stylist assured me it would look great. I've been a blonde my whole life and only had attempted to go dark once before which was also a disaster. Since we were both nervous, she decided to play it safe and leave in a lot of my blonde. In the end, leaving so much blonde in made me just look drab. It was nothing like the photo I had showed her for inspiration and emphasized that I really wanted. I felt so ugly for a week before I went back to have it corrected. I'm always willing to give someone another chance and I agree that we both were hesitant with the first color so I made the appointment to go in again. I decided that I couldn't pay twice as much as I've ever paid on hair ($300) and not say something. During the second appt, it was like pulling teeth to get her to talk. She never asked me one question about myself, or my life, and I had to initiate all topics. While I put more stake into how my hair looks, this is still important as I felt she was annoyed with me for coming back and made no effort to make me feel comfortable. Man was I surprised to find that they then charged me for CORRECTIVE COLOR! Not only had I paid $300 for the first disappointment but then they charged me another $40 for the corrective color. I was shocked. As I stood there paying for this again, the receptionist asked me if I wanted to add tip to the bill. Having been there the previous week, I knew that the tip could be added on the receipt. So she was only saying it to call me out and make sure that I tipped the stylist who was charging me to fix the hair I hated so much. Wow. I've never been asked to pay for corrective color and I've definitely never been tip shamed like this before. I walked away so frustrated, humiliated, and made to feel like a cheap customer. read more
