She took a look at my hair and checked out how I had been taking care of it and gave me some tips on how to untangle the existing strands. She was so laid back during my visit with her and I am loving my hair. She is by far the most open and understanding stylist I have had in many years. I dig her vibe and the relaxed atmosphere. Tori is the best hair stylist I've ever had, and due to distance, I have to find someone else and my heart is broken. Tori is brilliant, and gave me the best cuts! She took me from long to short and helped me grow it out, and my cuts always looked fresh and not too new or too grown out, even if much time passed. I will never return to this snotty place of business ever again. After my horrible experience yesterday, where my stylist proceeded to get in my face and chew me out for NO reason at all, is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. All I did was call the salon a few days prior to my hair color appointment, and ask the cost of the toner. I'm on a tight budget, and who isn't nowadays?! All I did was ask the cost, and when they told me the cost I said I would prefer to forgo the toner. I thought it was unaffordable. I was very nice on the phone--Never once argumentative, like my stylist accused me of doing. The price they also quoted me for the entire service was about $65.00 lower than what I was charged for my service in the end. I do appreciate being chewed out by some hairstylist with a serious attitude problem. She's had an attitude with me prior to this experience and is just a nasty person. I don't tolerate people in my life who aren't kind and respectful of me. I was thoroughly frightened yesterday, and felt trapped, since I was sitting in her chair and she was belligerent with me. I should've left with her having that nasty of an attitude. You just don't treat people that way...Especially your customers. Also, don't make accusations that are completely FALSE. The owners are rude, and so is the staff. I also left with grey, chunky highlights--not solid blonde highlights like I requested. My hair is ashy grey striped. Now I have to get it fixed at another salon, as well as the bad haircut she gave me. I advise people to avoid this business like the plague. If you like being treated nasty by your stylist, than go right ahead and go here. Terrible business. If I could give zero stars I would in a heartbeat. They don't deserve 1 star at all. read more

Salon was nice, but that's a bit it. My stylist came and late and over all just did a lazy job on my hair. I walked out there 300 bucks down, and you couldn't even tell that I had gotten my hair done (WHICH WAS THE GOAL). My hair looked nothing like the photo I showed her, and I could only see one significantly blonder streak. Got a haircut here for the first time yesterday afternoon. Parking is a little hard to find, you'll probably end up paying to park on the street. Download the passport parking app first so you don't have to use the machine. The salon is very pleasant inside. Nice, chic interior and waiting area. I booked with Lexi and she is AMAZING!! Super friendly and did such a great job on my hair. She was also helpful in telling me about how I can take better care of my hair and was knowledgeable about the products they keep in the salon. What kind of review should you write when a business completely restores your confidence and it's kindness overwhelms you? Like many of us I've had an interesting year and one of the things that fell off my list was hair care. My hair was in rough shape. They did everything they could to restore it and save it. At the end of the experience I came out feeling like myself again and quite frankly, pretty cute. Through all of it I had 4 awesome women help me. I would quickly book Carry, Joni, Lexi, or Megan. Nancy fixed my blunt, think, medium-length hair that I really needed to trim. I'm growing my hair out from a very extreme bob that was cut to the middle of my jawline. This was my first time at Kink and I loved it! Make sure you use the door on the right side of the salon to enter (the left door says to use the other door, but you wont realize that until you get close). Kelsey gave me a super edgy bob (pixie cut) and a partial highlight. She consulted with me for the first couple of minutes, mixed the color, and got right to work with the foils. She is super fast with the foils! While my color processed, she was able to fit in another cut/style for an accidentally double-booked appointment. Great time management! Because I checked in on Yelp, I was able to get a free conditioning treatment. All of the products left my hair feeling soft and smelling great! The bowls where they wash your hair were actually comfortable. My neck never hurt after laying there for 10 minutes!!! The chairs also reclined- never have seen that before! I didn't want a "mom bob" so I told Kelsey to do whatever she wanted. I was a little surprised at the shorter length, but I love it! Not something I would have tried without her just going for it. She set me at ease by showing me how easy it would be to style and dry it in the morning. She also talked me through each product she used so that I would know what to do on my own. Great service! All of the other staff members were very friendly in complementing my new color, then my new cut. Booking my next appt was easy. Worst experience ever. I typically go to STRANDS but they were booked for a couple of weeks. I called Kink and they had plenty of openings, which is a dead giveaway right there. I wanted to highlight my hair and when I spoke to the supposed "stylist" she said that because my hair had box color in it she couldn't put highlights on top??? That is absolute nonsense I have been highlighting my hair this way for years. She then said my hair is course. I think she just doesn't know how to deal with ethnic hair. Favorite salon by far and hated that I moved away from STL. I always had a great experience and Was never disappointed. They're not limited to certain hairstyles and the stylists continue to attend seminars to stay up to date on new trends. Ask for April Gonzalez (her insta: venomouscupcakes)! Totally creative and very talented. Tasteful work. She kicks ass in intricate undercut designs. She pays close attention to detail and is always able to emulate the styles that I want, and she can create beautiful styles if your stumped when wanting to do something new. I've had stylists in the past who disregarded what type of cut I wanted and continued to do a hairstyle that they're more comfortable with. My husband, my baby son and I go to kink hair regularly. We are very happy with the hair cuts, I like the hair colors. All staff is extremely friendly and kind. The team goes above and beyond every time we come in to get the hair cut for the toddler. One colleague plays with him or gives him a toy, while Elise cuts his hair! So happy! The hair cut was so bad that when I went to my usual salon to get it fixed, my stylist literally laughed then had to call the owner over to figure out how to fix the cut without chopping too much. I thought maybe it was just a bad day so I decided to give them another chance if I needed to, Ended up going back last week for a shampoo & style - the stylist was almost 45 minutes late starting my appointment and barely apologized, criticized my hair, then sent me on my way without using an ounce of hair spray, so the style fell after less than an hour. So the only time I write a review is when the services are awful or exceptional outstanding and this experience was amazing. As a travel nurse I end up getting my hair cut in random places due to not being in one place for long time or being at home. I got recommended Kink by a friend of mine who said I should give them a go as I was desperate for a hair cut. I booked my appointment with Maddie, and what could I say other than how much of a perfectionist she was!! I just love when people take pride in their work and provide great services! She was AMAZING & let me repeat that AAAMMMAZINGG!! I have had my hair cut by random top stylist around the world and by far she had to be the only person who cut my hair exactly what length I wanted and how I wanted it to look. (Trust me this is impossible to achieve by certain stylist as they mess it up all the time) Maddie, clearly knew her job and she was super knowledgeable about products etc. i am one of those people who loves to know what is happening each step of the process and she knew that, so before anything she would explain to me what she was gonna do etc and to me this is so comforting as I have had people cut my hair without even asking if I was ok with that much cut off. Highly recommend! I've been searching for a good salon in St. Louis for NINE years. I have bounced around like a ping-pong ball trying to find that elusive cool salon. Nothing ever stuck, everyone I tried was just meh. This place is very hip, and at this point I'm probably too old to come here, but hip is a state of mind and not an age. The stylists here, on the whole, are heavily tattooed and/or pierced, and there is a strong alternative vibe. I see Courtney, who I recommend. She has done both cuts and color on my hair. I started going grey early and they are VERY stubborn and hard to color for more than a few washes. This place has given me the best results for grey coverage; it lasts a long time! The prices can be high. It was $110 Today for me to get a root touch up and "pull it through," (not sure if there's a technical term for that. But, I'm hooked and now my daughter goes here, too. I plan on this place being my lifetime salon! It was recommended to me by a friend who sees Stephanie, who specializes in curly hair. I've seen April twice now. I finally decided to do a fashion color: icy lavender. I met for a brief consultation the day before my real appointment. She answered all my questions and explained the steps involved and provided a price estimate. The actual appointment took about 4 hours. This included bleaching, toning and the color. I also got a trim. She educated me on how to take care of the color. I bought a custom made conditioner that has some tint in it to help the color last which April made. My second appointment I went with a pixie cut and I love it! April has very encouraging with making these big changes. The place is chic and modern. The staff is fairly young and trendy. Lots of product to offer including travel sizes. If you refer someone, you get a free full-size product. read more

My partner and I have been going to see Bret at Kink Salon for the last 4 years, and I have been very satisfied. I tried about 3-4 salons after moving to St. Louis, and this was by far the best. Bret really takes his time to make sure you get exactly what you wanted. He is capable of so much, whether I want to experiment with rose gold or dark brown, my hair always looks fabulous. At this point, I come in with maybe a color idea or something very general, and just let him make it his own. Everyone is super friendly and accommodating, and they always ask me what I need to be comfortable. When it's this hot out, I'm always thankful for that cold soda or ice water while I wait. She straightened up the uneven cut, cut my bangs just how I wanted them, and styled my hair in hardly any time at all, and it looks excellent! Maybe it's just been bad luck, but so many of the salons I've been to in the past have left my hair with big ol' sausage curls and enough product in it to hold it solid in a hurricane, but thankfully today I left this salon with a sleek but still casual style and the products were light on my hair (and smelled so delightful!). I recently moved to St. Louis and was in desperate need of a haircut. I saw the great reviews for KINK, and decided to give it a shot. Big mistake. I have written a long review that I tried to keep interesting, but I wanted to be as honest and thorough as possible so nobody else endures what I have been put through. So if you're considering KINK Salon, please take a few minutes to be warned!! (To keep it classy, I didn't name the stylist.) I had a late appointment that started off well. The stylist sat down with me, asked me about my hair, likes and dislikes, etc. I went in with my hair air-dried so she could see how it behaves naturally. (I have long, thick, dark blonde hair with some big, natural waves. It hasn't been colored in 5 years). I told her I love having long, thick hair, and I just wanted to take enough off the ends to get it looking and feeling healthy again. We agreed two inches would do just that. I also wanted to get the long layers back in it. The appointment was a bit awkward, because we were the only ones left in the salon, but I did my best to make conversation, asking my native St. Louisan stylist questions about the city. As we talked though, I kept getting the feeling that it annoyed her that I wasn't from here and that I didn't understand some of the quirks of the city. I should have taken that as a sign. After she dried and flat-ironed my hair (which I rarely, if ever, take the time to do), it was much shorter than I was expecting it to be. She had taken about 4 inches off of the longest layer. But by this time, it was almost 10:00pm, and I had worked all day, so I just wanted to get home and get to bed. When I got home and was able to take a better look at my hair, I was shocked. It was awful I figured I'd give it a few days and see how it looked after I washed and air-dried or scrunched it, but it only got worse. I actually cried when the full effect of what she had done to my hair hit me. She had given me two "layers" in the back which were blunt, uneven, and crooked, and one side of the bottom was longer than the other. It was horrific. I cried. I sent pictures to my two previous hairdressers in my former home cities, both of whom were appalled, and agreed it looked horrendous. Did I mention I cried? I went back into the salon a few days later (with my hair in a ponytail!) with the hopes of talking with the owner, who was not there. I booked some time with him for the next day, hopeful he would make the situation right. I went back with a smile on my face, hoping to catch more flies with honey than vinegar, and sat down with the owner. He was very friendly and personable, and clearly wanted to make me happy. I started off by letting him look at my hair (again, I went in with it naturally air-dried) and giving him a chance to see if he could pick out the errors. He did acknowledge the crooked, uneven bottom and the bluntness of the layers, and suggested I just needed the ends textured more. I thought that sounded reasonable, but wasn't sure he understood quite how unhappy I was, especially with the length issue. So I showed him a few pictures from the past few days of Hair Hell, and reiterated the things I was especially dissatisfied with. It was then that he told me that he thought a big problem was the color and wave of my hair, and that it was making the cut look worse than it actually was. Um...EXCUSE ME?? He also told me at one point that he thought I was probably overreacting a bit. WHAT?? Oh, and he also told me not to review them on Yelp until I was happy. After he convinced me he wouldn't take any length off and that it was an easy fix, I let him go to work on my hair. I figured it couldn't get any worse. I was nervous, because I did see him taking length off, and putting even shorter layers in it (granted, he told me he thought that would help it blend better, so I agreed to it). After hair massacre #2, I left with even shorter, thinner hair that ultimately was still horribly blended in the back, although the texturing did help slightly with the blunt layers. I guess the first stylist had mangled it beyond repair. In fact, when I sent my former stylists the picture of the "fixed" cut, they both told me that next time I go get my hair cut, the stylist will probably look at it and say "WHAT THE HELL happened to your hair?" and that it may take up to a year to really fix the damage. At no point in this process did the owner apologize, or offer to remedy the situation in any way besides attempting to fix it there on the spot. He ultimately refused to admit the fault of his stylist, and insulted me by telling me I was overreacting, and blamed most of the problem on my natural hair (which has NEVER been a problem for my previous stylists, who have given me clean, beautiful cuts that exceeded my expectations). I will NEVER set foot in KINK salon again. I wouldn't let any of their stylists within 50 feet of my hair. I recommend you stay far, far, FAR away. read more

I came in for balyage with an unnamed stylist, and was traumatized by the event. My hair looked HORRIBLE afterwards even though I showed her photos and told her specifically what colors and tones work well with my hair. Long story short: my hair was stripey and yellow and 430 (!!!) dollars later I had to go to another salon to get it completely redone. Needless to say, everyone at the salon that fixed it couldn't believe how much I'd paid and how horrible it looked. It was almost laughable. Seriously, for over 400 dollars that i'm never getting back, this was the worst hair experience of my life :( read more

Not good for people with "ethnic" hair who are looking for a relaxer/straightening treatment. In my case, they took my appointment online last week, where I clearly disclosed what kind of service I was looking for ("relaxer (ethnic)" was a choice in the service drop-down menu), then they called me 3 hours before the appointment to tell me they wouldn't do it. Either they don't offer them, and the website was wrong, or they didn't keep it in stock. I got two different answers. Jenn half-heartedly offered a keratin treatment, but I could tell she had no interest in doing it. She had a great opportunity to sell me on the benefits of keratin and how it could be a better option. But instead, after I told her I had never done one before, she just said, OK. Oh, well. I was ready to spend 3 hours in their salon and they passed. Too bad. read more

Caitlyn was fabulous and went above and beyond for me. The Salon employees are so welcoming and create a fun environment. I went to get a color correction from dark brown hair with red roots to light blonde hair. I dyed my own hair and soon realized that was a huge mistake, I went to Paul Mitchell two times and they could not perform. They made my hair darker. That is when I knew I had to go to a professional. Caitlyn is the professional that turned my hair around back to my normal light blonde with NO warm tones which I know was difficult because of everything that I had done to it. Lexi was my colorist for my first visit to this salon. She did a fantastic job on my hair. Exactly what I had asked for... better than any stylist I've visited in years and exceeded expectations. I had balayage highlights and asked that she blend in my natural strawberry dark blonde color (with the goal of growing out old blonde and letting my natural color ease in) while still maintaining face framing highlights. She basically did everything I asked for and beyond. I'm very very happy with the results and highly recommend her. I haven't been this satisfied with my hair in a very long time. Came to Kink with an idea of some fun color, but not really sure how to make it come to life. Once I got to Kink and showed the amazing Kate Clark some pictures and said "whatever you want I trust you". Let me tell you see made my idea come to life!! She wasn't happy with the first lift of my old color so instead of just going with it, she took the time to do another lift so the vibrancy of the color would show through. It's these small things to reach perfection that keeps me coming back to her. After she got my old color out then the fun begun. Kate talked the whole time while putting some amazing color into my hair about makeup tips and how this color will make me pop. So by the time rinsing came I was over the moon with confidence. She dug in for the cut and my only thing was no bangs. Kate knowing me made sure I kept some length while getting rid of my dead ends. Once all was said and done I was glowing (still am) I say this a lot but I seriously recommend Kink Hair to everyone. Jeffrey did a great job with my color. He is a very likable, personable guy. He has good cutting skills as well. He needs to improve with communicating his intentions during the process. He didn't discuss or ask about my preference in the length of my hair, and went quite short in back. It looks good! but, that's a bit of a misstep for me. Their choice of products for color is fantastic, and hard to find salons that use these brands (Framesi color & Kevin Murray styling & wash products). Recommended, but, you might want to "drive the bus" while you're in his chair. read more
