    pork belly sweet potato bowl

We arrived around noon. Counter service was friendly and they appeared to like their job. We had cold brew and it was flavorful and smooth. The food arrived quickly, even before I finished my half of the almond croissant, which was packed with flavor. Delicious layers and filling. My wife greatly enjoyed the veggie wrap with potatoes. She thought the ingredients were excellent and a well rounded taste. I found the bowl to be well cooked but was expecting more flavor, maybe some spices and cilantro would have paired well. The ingredients were fresh and well prepared. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

Sports bar with great food! Don't miss this one!…read more This gem is unassuming and tucked back off the main streets cottage grove. It has a large indoor and outdoor recreational area attached, but the food is what stands out. This was our first time for breakfast. The Bloody Mary was delicious, tasted like a homemade mix, with the perfect portion of garnishes. I had the breakfast sandwich, which was build your own, with potato pancakes. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The potato pancakes were some of that best I've had, and such a great idea for breakfast. My husband had the biscuits and gravy with seasoned diced potatoes. The portion was not overwhelming and the biscuits were fresh with a very flavorful gravy - some of the best around. Service was efficient and attentive. Excited to come back again!

It was supposed to come with pears and candied walnuts. I've included picture, there weren't any. Both salads were to come with "French Bread" per menu. You will see it was like an inch piece of bread. The Asian Chicken had tough chicken, limp tortilla strips (salad dressing was on side so that wouldn't have impacted this) and about 4 mandarin slices 2 of which were mushy. There were no bean sprouts or sesame seeds as indicated on menu. The only thing that saved this meal was a breadstick we found in our refrigerator. Too bad, would not get either again.

Something about it says it should be great…read more Went after a soccer game, not too many people were in the place, about 8 at the bar and 3 tables in dining room. I'm not sure if they were under staffed but they seemed confused so no host was there and we kind of just stood there for a while. It took awhile but we were eventually seated. We were then seated. I believe the name Micheal was our waiter. We asked about drinks, not much in way of craft beers. So old fashioned,a Yuengling, a coke and apple juice. Granddaughter said apple juice was good! Friday night fish fry, what do they have? Catfish, walleye and cod. So we ended up with 2 catfish, a walleye and a cheeseburger. 1 catfish with fries and side salad. 1 catfish with baked potato and side salad 1 walleye with baked potato and side salad. Burger and fries. It took awhile for salad plates to come, it was A salad bar. Very basic salad bar, they are glad I didn't take pictures because the salad bar looked weak, not so much with topping but the lettuces looked old and barely enough for the 3 of us. They brought the burger, walleye and 1 catfish plate. Gave walleye and catfish to wrong people; we said I we think you have wrong people, they said no. You can kind of tell a catfish filet from walleye. He asked me to cut into my fish to tell the difference; he then agreed they were mixed up. My catfish had baked potato instead of fries. He said I'll get you the fries, I won't charge you for the baked potato??? Kind of strange response- why would you even think that. So we ate and pretty much done eating, my fries arrive. Oh well! He was gracious enough to say we gave you a few extras; my side didn't look any bigger than another guest portion. We enjoy hitting Wisconsin dive bars and usually they have great food! Actually the fish was good, but portions were small, 1/2 filet each for what we paid in my humble opinion. While we go back to revisit other past places while we are here, I very much doubt we will be back here. Maybe we just hit an off night since I see other positive reviews.

Walking inside, it seemed like the tables were close together. The layout looked crowded. We were seated pretty quick and near the window so that was great. Waitress was fast and exceptional. Menu had a good selection. I ordered the Biscuit Stack and the wife ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and eggs or something. Our food came out pretty quick considering the place was full. Our food was very very good and that's the reason this place was full. The biscuit stack was put together in a very unique way but all the ingredients tasted great. It was a nice find for someone from out of town. I recommend this place and would visit again if i'm in the area again.

It was off the highway, so I thought I would give it a go. Walked in and it was what you would expect from a Wisconsin diner -- old carpeting, waitresses who are lifers, and signage from the bygone era. I sat at the bar, with barstools that came about 4 feet off the ground, and asked the cordially waitress what was good. She rattled off about 3/4 of the breakfast menu so I needed a few minutes. A few minutes passed and I went with the Krab Cakes Benedict (why the K?) and the Cottage Platter. The crab cakes were decent (definitely better than the Cottage Platter), but very crisp on the outside, straddling the line of burnt, and somewhat cooked on the inside. Light on the seasoning. As they say on the cooking shows, it was screaming for some acidity...or in this case some Old Bay. Then the Cottage Platter, which I was very much looking forward to, fell flat for me. The hashbrowns had a funky taste to them, which I couldn't quite place. And again, overall, the dish was lacking in flavor. Would I go out of my way to hit this place up again? Most likely not. If I was in the area and wanted to try something else, I probably would.

My childhood friend Cara, and I enjoyed a pleasant lunch Thursday afternoon as served by Grace (with grace). We both had the Mediterranean Bowl (see photo). Overall, a good price, and for a little extra it comes with a filet of salmon (my choice) or chicken breast. For dessert we shared the black and tan brownie - served with French Vanilla ice cream on top and whipped cream on the sides... it was DELICIOUS. Just an absolutely fabulous dining experience! Food 3/5: we're used to Minnesota old fashions, so the watered down version seems odd to us. We got on old fashion without a mixer , and it tasted like the added water to it. The cheese curds at this place used to be hand battered, but now seem frozen. The dipping sauce was a nice compliment, but not the most fresh. The kids loved their Dino nuggets with fruit and ranch. The Mac and cheese was buttered noodles with sprinkle cheese and didn't have an actual cheese sauce, we would not recommend. Everyone else at the table got some version of the fish fry. The haddock was cooked well and the portion was adequate. The fish sandwich was undercooked/doughy and was not good. I did like their tartar sauce and thought it balanced the fish well. Service 4/5: our waiter seemed a little overwhelmed and was attentive as he was able. He did get our kids orders in before ours which was nice. The food came hot. Ambiance 5/5: we were sat upstairs which was beautiful during the sunset. Overall this is a kid friendly place (upstairs at least) and our kids loved looking g out the windows and watching the cars and the sunset. Overall their food quality and options have changed over the years and is not as consistently high quality as it used to be. The menu has also changed significantly, so check before you come. If you need a kid friendly place, the have great kid options.

The bakery is a nice combination of a new store with plenty of old school feel. The donuts are displayed both in the glass cases up front and on the trays on the back wall. The selection is very good with plenty of donut styles and flavors. I ended up getting an apple cinnamon sour cream donut and a chocolate filled stick. Donut prices were a bit expensive, $4.65 for 2 donuts. The donuts were OK, but not great, a bit dry and not as flavorful as I would expect. The apple cinnamon flavor was a bit muted and the filling of the stick was chocolate pudding rather then chocolate creme. I would have liked to try one of the apple fritters, while they were huge $5 seemed excessive. If the other donuts were better I might have grabbed one the next day for the drive home. Maybe my expectations were too high but I just found Greenbush Bakery to be a bit of a disappointment. Certainly not bad, but I have had much better donuts.

Their menu was super creative and seasonal too, with lots of drink options (they even serve beer, which was unexpected but cool)! Our barista mentioned she was still in training, and I appreciated her honesty and kindness. The drinks came out okay, we ordered a Pumpkin espresso, which came lightly flavored and the other, Banana Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso was a bit strong, it tasted mostly espresso with the flavors either not in the beverage or not quite blended in. I did like how she offered different milk options, that was a nice touch. We filled two tables in the main dining area and just needed a third to accommodate our group. There wasn't one available in that space, so we simply asked if we could borrow a table from the adjacent banquet hall. That room was wide open, with dozens of empty tables, no signage, no setup, and nothing to suggest it was reserved or in use at any point that day. The staff refused. No explanation. Just no. We asked again. Same answer. Interestingly, another group nearby ended up with an extra table. I don't know where it came from, but it raised questions about how decisions were being made. Here is what made it hard to ignore. I have lived in Wisconsin long enough to know what normal looks like in places like this. My family does not quite match that mold. The refusal did not come with a reason. It came with a shift in tone. A kind of quiet gatekeeping that did not feel like policy. It felt selective. I am not here to accuse. I am here to ask why our request was denied when others appeared to be granted the same. Why was no reason given. And why did it feel like our presence changed the rules. Hospitality means making people feel welcome. That did not happen here.
