I had my first massage today with Shirley at Grace Day Spa. I have had many massages during the past 2 decades--some at high end places like Burke Williams--and I can honestly say Shirley gave me one of the best massages I've ever had. I am giving five stars because 1) the massage was so amazing 2) it was clean 3) Shirley who is also the owner was super nice and customer friendly. 4) the cost was so reasonable ($80 for a 90 min) particularly for the peninsula I will definitely go back because it is a high quality massage for very reasonable fee. They do their best to make it tranquil but note that you can hear some traffic noise (not terribly loud but if you aren't expecting it and you need silence you should know you can hear it). It did not bother me because the massage was SO AWESOME. PS I have no idea what happened with the people who left those bad reviews about payment and tips but that was certainly not my experience. read more

Grace Day Spa is a great place to get a quick last minute massage without the hassle of booking months in advance (though, you do have that option)! I've been to many massage places (Burke Williams, Massage Envy & other reflexology spots) and this place definitely provides a great combo to all the best things from each one of those places. The prices are unbeatable, the customer service is great and the massages are relaxing and private. I do want to note that the location is off a main road and parking might not be available in their small allotted area in the back, but there is plentiful of street parking. Also, because it is off the main road, you can hear the cars and trains passing by. None of the above though have deterred me from visiting Grace Day Spa. In two words - simply amazing. The reviewer prior to mine seemed to take the words right out of my mouth. I have degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis) in my lower back, so I have to get a massage every week. I have been going to Shirley for almost 3 years now, and I can't praise her enough. So, I had an experience like a few of the other reviewers. After my wife and I received our massages, we went to check out with a credit card. The lady asked how much I'd like to tip and I said 20%. She then rang us up for something closer to 40% tip. When i corrected the lady at the desk, she then told me that 20% was not sufficient. Silly me, I guess I didn't realize that the tip was negotiable! I won't go through the multiple iterations we had in the conversation, but suffice to say that it turned into a 15 minute ordeal to have them actually charge the credit card the appropriate amount. It was very awkward, and certainly not a relaxing end to what is supposed to be a relaxing experience. It also took place after the owner responded to one of the other reviewers who complained about this, saying that she would talk to the therapists and make sure they ceased this practice. Apparently, that conversation either did not happen, or the therapists decided to ignore the direction. On the massage itself, it was good for the price. I've had better, but I've also had worse. I would probably have gone back if not for the tip-blackmail as we were trying to check out. read more

This has to be my 3rd or 4th review for this wonderful place. I've been going to Grace Day Spa for 3 years now. I was one of their first customers when they opened in Belmont and have been a devoted fan and customer ever since! I've referred all of my friends and family (my daughter originally discovered them and is a regular customer too), and they all absolutely fell in love with it. My daughter was a massage therapist herself for several years, so she is extremely hard to please when it comes to massage but she loves this place! Shirley is the owner and she is so sweet and welcoming. All the women who work there are fantastic. Whether you like a deep tissue massage or just a light hand, they will totally accommodate you. I've almost never made an appointment and have almost always gotten in just walking in the front door, but I would recommend you call ahead as they've now got a great clientele built up and have many repeat customers, so they're a lot busier now. I'm so glad though, because I want them to stick around! They have super convenient hours too, and stay open until 9 pm each night. If I'm not mistaken, I think they are open seven days a week, even on Sunday. They also have gift certificates available (I just used one that my friends got me for my birthday) and it makes a great Birthday or Christmas gift. Your friends or family will thank you and will be hooked Go check them out and you'll want to go back again and again. I've written a few reviews and hope it's brought them more business. Once I found the place the host was very welcoming she got my girlfriend and I into a couples room quickly. Shirley asked what pressure I wanted and stuck to it perfectly. My boyfriend and I received an amazing massage. If I were to rate this place only on services, it would be 5 stars! Mary was amazing! However, when we went to pay I left a 15% tip (which I thought was pretty standard). They said that was too low, so I changed it to 20% to avoid any conflict. She wanted a 40% tip, which I declined. The woman proceeded to get another woman (manager?) who asked me for more. She said, "we work very hard" and want more money. I don't understand making customers feel awkward as a business strategy. Why not raise the prices if you want more money for the service? We would have been happy to pay more for the initial service. We're loyal customers and probably would have come back every week... but now I feel too weird. It's really too bad, because the massage was excellent. read more

I've been here 6-7 times now, and every time I go I say that is the best massage I've ever had. I asked Shirley for deep tissue and let.me.tell.you. She has extensive knowledge on the muscles and gets every aching part with extreme pressure. She goes down your spine, around your shoulder blades, does an incredible job with the hot stones, and gives the best head massages. Even though she has the strongest massage I've ever gotten, she is aware of the correct places and pays attention not to hurt your spine. I've lived in Belmont for many years and drove by this place and never stopped to try it as I've had a masseuse for over 10 years who unfortunately left the Bay Area. I decided to check out local business on Yelp and found the reviews to be generally great. I was concerned about some of the negative reviews but I thought I would give it a try. I called yesterday evening and got an appointment immediately for the next morning with Shirley. I was pleasantly greeted by Shirley when I arrived. She directed me to the room and the place was warm, cozy with nice soft and calming music. There was a client in another room but it wasn't bothersome. Shirley checked on my comfort level several times. I got a deep tissue 60 minute massage and its just what I needed to loosen up my tight back, shoulders and neck. It's one of the best massages I've had and felt great after that I bought a package of 10 massages! I highly recommend it for the service and the reasonable price. And I was not harrassed to give a 50% tip or any tip. I however did leave a tip which was received with a most gracious Thank you! read more

I. Love. Shirley. I just had the most phenomenal massage. It was my first time at Grace Day Spa and I can't wait to go back. When I walked in they said on Wednesdays it's ladies day and they give 10 free extra minutes to my 60 min Swedish massage. Great! I actually got 15 extra minutes when I looked at the clock at the end. Even greater! Shirley used the perfect pressure for me and seemed to know exactly what would feel amazing and where to spend some time. She has really strong fingers which worked some magic. Yay! I just moved down the street, saw the massage sign, and decided to walk on over. Not sure how it compares to other places since this was my first massage ever, but it was really damn good. Imagine the crappy hand massage you get at your average nail salon - complete with the "clop clopping" up your arms. Now imagine it allover your body and you've pretty much got the experience at Grace's. They only offer 2 types of massage - Swedish or Deep Tissue and I did not get either. The "masseuse" was clearly not trained (and by trained I mean had not even watched a YouTube video on massage). It was not a good experience to say the least. The space itself while not plush would be fine but for the fact you can hear the doorbell, the phone ringing and lots of other conversations between the staff. You can also hear other patrons during their massage. Not relaxing. 1 star is for plush beds and the warm oil. I'm afraid to ask where they get the warming oil...it warms on contact with your skin. Lastly, the woman asked me to post a 5 star review. She said that they give free massages out in exchange for good reviews. I find this offensive. read more

Three stars for great price per hour. Unfortunately, the service missed the mark. Quality of the overall massage would be fair for an airport lounge not an establishment that calls itself a day spa. The individual "rooms" are not completely private as the "walls" are divider walls that do not reach the ceiling which causes you to lose some of your serene relaxation due to ambient noise from outside cars passing by, other clients conversations, business transactions and even loud mouth breathers next door were all easily heard during my 90 minute Swedish massage. It was clear that the massage therapist had no real technique and doused me in oils and even did the percussion pounding on my back like a chair massager. The MT also did not lighten her pressure even after several attempts to get her to understand it was too hard. English was not her first language or very well understood. Overall, if you wanted a quick chair type massage on the neck and shoulders it might be worth your time. Otherwise skip amateur hour and seek out a more qualified spa for your full body massage work. read more

This is the second time I've come and I'm a fan. The first time I had Mary and this time I had Selina. Both are solid and provided the pressure that I wanted in my trouble areas. The rooms are decorated nicely and the music is relaxing. Even though it's next to a busy street (and you can hear the traffic), I was still able to relax. (Both times I've been were weekday appointments in mid-morning). If you want total serenity, this would not be the place for you. As another reviewer mentioned, the walls don't go all the way to the ceiling, so I could hear the other masseuses talking. However, the quality of the massages I received from both Mary and Selina were great. And the hot towels at the end were awesome! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that they ask you to pay before the service. When I went for the first time back in Oct, I paid after the fact. It is a rather unusual practice to pay up front, but maybe they've had bad experiences with customers not paying? In any case, I found it strange to tip ahead of time for a service I haven't yet experienced (different masseuse), so I gave the standard 15% for a 90 minute massage, thinking that I'd tip more if I enjoyed it after I actually experienced it. After the service was over, she mentioned that the tip was not enough, of which I responded that I was planning on giving her more anyway. That really makes for an awkward exchange if the customer doesn't feel like the service warranted more tipping. I'm thinking this may turn away some customers. I raved to my friends and husband about my massage back in October, but I'd be wary to recommend again because of this, as I'm sure people don't want to be asked to tip more. Personally, I would come again, but would like it better if the customer were able to pay at the end and tip accordingly without pressure. read more

My husband and I went to get a massage here since it wasn't too far from our location and the hourly massage prices were decent. The massages were adequate initially but the relaxation began to dwindle as there were multiple interruptions during our session. The masseuses left our room a total of 6 times to answer the loud doorbell or to answer the phone. My husband became more annoyed when she left the third time to answer the door and he told them they just need to lock the door if no one else is available to help. She apologized again and of course they continue to take turns leaving the room to answer the door or phone. I thought maybe they would give us extra time due to the multiple interruptions but instead ended the massage a minute before the full hour. I thought about asking for more time however we were no longer enjoying the massage and we shouldn't have to ask when it was apparently poor service. We discussed amongst ourselves that we wouldn't come back here since we were much more disappointed than relaxed. My husband still gave them a 20% tip and he said she looked surprised as though it wasn't enough. We won't waste our time here again. read more

Both myself and my daughter, and several friends of mine have all had massage work done at this spa and every single person I had was excellent. I have not one complaint. Plus they're open every day until 10 pm and are conveniently located right across from the Cal Train station in Belmont! I highly recommend Grace Day Spa for massages! They're also very reasonable, very pleasant staff and very accommodating with your schedule! They always seem to have availability for walk-ins. The best!!! read more
