My husband booked me a prenatal massage with Shirley since I kept asking him daily for massages. Finding the spot was a bit tricky at first, but turns out we were in the wrong parking lot. Verona Massage is located on El Camino, which can be hectic, but there is free parking in the back, and once you enter the building, it gets a little bit quieter. There are some cool crystals and geodes on display in the main building. There are 2 rooms for Verona Massage, and it is not a spa or foot massage place. Shirley takes appointments, and I am so grateful my husband booked me one with her. It felt very private, relaxing, and I didn't feel rushed at all. This was my second time getting a prenatal massage, and I can hands down say that this was better than the one I got in Hawaii. She focused on my knots that I didn't even know I had! I appreciated the quiet environment and calm she creates. She has great technique and applies just the right amount of pressure, although she checked in on the pressure as needed. There was not a moment where I felt like I needed to tell her to apply more/less pressure. The 1 hour was simply pure bliss. Wow. Best masseuse I've had the chance to get a massage from in quite awhile. I've tried a ton in San Mateo (and all over Asia). Shirley is very talented, has very strong hands and has a deep understanding of the body. She was able to get some of my deep knots to the surface by massaging other parts of the body. I booked a two hour deep tissue and she definitely delivered. The place is professional and clean, but note that it is not a spa. I don't think I'd come here for couple massages or a "luxurious typical relaxing" experience, I'd come here for a truly relaxing massage that'll help heal your body. Also, this is not a cheap foot massage spot if that's what you're looking for. I think this is actually the perfect spot if you're looking for a real massage. Would definitely come again! read more

Hands down, pun intended, this was the BEST deep massage I have ever had. It had been over a year since my last massage which was given during a vacation. I lost my last local masseuse when he moved from San Mateo to Portugal some years ago & never found a replacement. Let me start by saying Shirley's massage Studio is very peaceful with high ceilings, lovely decorative touches and is painted in soothing colors. The soft music she plays in the background is very relaxing. Shirley is petite, but very strong and her massage techniques really helped to work out some serious knots and kinks that I had been storing up in my body. I know she is trained in a variety of massage techniques, but I requested a 90 minute, very deep one & she delivered. Not only was the massage phenomenal, but the additional touches of hot stones, as well as hot towels used to soothe & then remove oils as she finished each area, we're unexpected and contributed to the lovely experience. Just had a 90 min Deep tissue last night and boy, was it good! I'm a frequent deep tissue / Thai massage type of girl and Shirley checks off all the boxes - pressure, technique, mindfulness, relaxing. Don't let her small frame fool you, she's very strong. One of the best deep tissue massages I've had. She tried very hard to get all my knots out (my back is made of rocks lol). I would def come back. Great place to get a massage. there is only one room (that I saw) and one massuase (also that i saw) so would highly reccommend you book an appointment. location is on el camino by the mcdonalds. pretty sure there was a parking lot, but i just parked on el camino and walked into the building towards the back. you did hear a bit of the outside world but it was mostly serine and she was able to get some knots out of my body. definately would come back read more

Shirley is such a talented massage therapist. Truly, she has given me the best messages of my life. I love deep-tissue massages with hard pressure. At other places, I would leave feeling like something got tweaked/hurt. But Shirley truly knows how to work all of the muscle groups in the correct way. Excellent Swedish massage. I have been to other places over the years but by far Shirley is the best. No frills clean location with just a small waiting area and two rooms, but works well for me and parking in the back of the building is very convenient. She relaxed my tense back muscles/knots and feeling great the next morning. She is strong and can get deep in the muscle to a point where it hurts a bit, but I did not complain to adjust pressure as I needed it to get the back soreness addressed. Well worth it! Hands down one of the best massages I ever got. Got the sports massage with Shirley and it was absolutely amazing. Shirley is fantastic!! I've had several massages with her now and will continue to go to her for as long as I can. I fully trust her, the price is right, and the space is lovely. When she's working, you just know that she is an expert at her job. If you are looking just to relax and be soothed, tell her that and have a lovely nap. Otherwise, expect the kind of therapeutic body work that can get a little bit painful. She will find your tense/problem areas and work them out to the extent that you're comfortable. Best massage I've ever gotten! I had a prenatal massage a couple weeks ago and it made me feel a thousand times better. Most other prenatal massage sessions I've gotten at other places is basically just a "normal" massage but without having me lay on my stomach. At Verona massage, it was different- she focused specifically on areas that get more fatigued and sore during pregnancy such as the hips and lower back.
