Just one of the coolest bjj professors there ever was
    Teresa T.

If you're a woman, it's crucial for you to learn some type of self defense- Brazilian jiu jitsu (bjj) is one of the most effective ways to learn that, especially if you're taken down to the ground. If you're a man, it's just as important to learn how to protect yourself and your family. The world can be a little crazy, so it's imperative that every person learns how to fight effectively and efficiently as a form of prevention to ensure one's health & safety. I'll be honest, I came upon this gym by accident. I made an appointment at another Gracie Gym but mixed up the address on google maps I started chatted with one of the parents from the kid's class when I was lost in the parking lot. I was beyond intimidated because I'm 5'1- I can't outmuscle many people, and I had no experience in martial arts. The parent reassured me that if Professor Magno could teach his kids how to take down an adult (which they could), then Magno could teach me women's self defense (which he did)! That day, I ended up staying for 3 classes: 2 rounds of bjj and 1 kick boxing class. I couldn't really move the next day, but I was hooked. It's been over a year, and I plan to continue training for a very long time. I started bjj because I wanted access to quality instruction for martial arts, but I stayed here because of the quality people in this family-friendly community. It's fantastic environment for practitioners at any levels to learn the art of Jiu Jitsu. It also helps that Professor Magno keeps the learning process very simple and fun. Obrigada, Professor!

Jiu Jitsu changed my life. Magno is one of the most humble person I have ever met. Before joining his class I was very insecure and nervous as any newbies would be, however he made me feel super welcome from the start and now I feel like I am apart of the family! Everyone here is super welcoming and I love it here. I have also lost at least 15lbs since joining. Overall, I love this gym and everyone here.

Something that I was never persistent about. Now, I've been working out 5 times a week for the past 2 months. During my first week, I could barely catch my breath and had little knowledge of kickboxing moves and techniques but these didn't discourage me from keep trying. The classes start with intense fitness workout and then focus on kickboxing combos. I highly recommend everyone to sign up for their 1 week trial. This will help you find the trainer that best fits you and your fitness goal. They have multiple locations (Orange, Downey, Lakewood) with diverse qualified trainers. I enjoy taking Jazzmine's classes when I need someone uplifting that encourages me throughout the workout. I take Brianna's classes when I need intense combos and lower body workouts and if you are looking for technique and form, definitely take Kevin and Josh's classes! Your environment and the people you surround yourself with have a big influence on your mindset, energy, and success. This definitely applies to KBXC! She's always there pushing us to improve, which honestly makes a huge difference compared to coaches I've had in the past who weren't consistently present for classes. Her routines are also really well put together. She mixes in new combos here and there, so there's always something new to work on. She's very knowledgeable and experienced in what she teaches. Boxing: Jessie is an awesome boxing coach! He's very attentive, walks around the room to make sure everyone is using proper form. Great combos and I like that he suggests options to add a strike in the middle of the combo routine. Jessie exudes an incredible energy that motivates you to push out your best efforts in every class. Also shoutout to both coaches for good selection of music and always ending each class with stretching. I really appreciate that they take the time for recovery and not just the workout itself.

A1 Boxing responded to my cancellation with: "Got it! Get back at us when you're available again." I also followed up by phone and was told the membership had been canceled. Despite that, I continued to be charged for approximately seven months after the cancellation. When I discovered the charges, I contacted them, provided the written documentation showing the exact date I canceled and their acknowledgment of it, and asked to be reimbursed for the charges that occurred after cancellation. They refused to refund me. For me, this is not about whether I used the gym or whether I changed my mind. I canceled. They acknowledged the cancellation. The billing continued anyway. I gave them an opportunity to correct it directly, and they chose not to. I now have to escalate the matter through my bank and the appropriate consumer-protection channels simply to recover money charged after a documented cancellation. I would not recommend signing any recurring membership agreement here without carefully monitoring every charge and keeping written records of any cancellation request.

A little over a decade ago, I discovered that kickboxing was my spirit workout. It's the only…read moreworkout that I always look forward to doing, consistently, over and over again. And movement/exercise is so important, especially for me dealing with young-onset Parkinson's disease. So when my favorite kickboxing studio closed last summer after having been my fit fam for almost 10 years, I was on the hunt for a new kickboxing/boxing gym. A couple of months ago, I happened to notice Title Boxing Club as I was driving by. I took the free trial class and immediately joined. And I've taken 24 classes in the last six weeks. They offer both regular boxing and kickboxing classes to a wide range of members: I have seen students to working professionals to retirees. And while each class is paced with distinct intervals, you can punch and kick at your own speed and at your own power level and modify as needed. The classes are taught by some of the friendliest, funnest, and most approachable coaches you'll ever meet. I think I've taken classes with all but one of the coaches (my schedule hasn't lined up with Coach Oleksand's schedule yet, but I'm hoping to catch one of his classes sometime soon), and each coach has their own personality and expertise, which they bring to their classes. Coach Mike is great with those new to boxing/kickboxing. Even though I'm pretty experienced with kickboxing in general, I find his detailed instructions helpful reminders to maintain proper form as my dystonia and dyskinesia try to take me down. (Not today, Parkinson's MFers!) Mike patiently explains and demonstrates each punch and kick and reminds everyone to be safe and to modify and take breaks as necessary. But don't underestimate him just because he's a nice guy; his class will kick your butt without you knowing it kicked your butt until after it's done kicking your butt. All while he's low-key zen-like congratulating you on a job well done and kindly reminding you to stay hydrated. Coach Marcus has a lot of cross-disciplinary expertise and stresses the importance of defensive boxing. In his class there's a focus on light footwork, slips, and rolls. Marcus also sometimes incorporates aspects of yoga and tai chi into his class, which is so cool to me as it juxtaposes smooth, flowing, grounded movements with the sharp jabs and quick punches of boxing, showing how strength and power can be fundamental in each of these disciplines which work well with and complement the other. Coach Diego is the ultimate cheerleader of the club and has a perpetually huge warm smile on his face because he's always genuinely thrilled to be there. You can clearly see how much passion he has for, and fun he has with coaching boxing and kickboxing. You can't help but to also smile with him; even me with my resting-workout-face, I can't not smile when he gives me a fist bump. It's especially appreciated after his super high-energy class when I'm wiped out. I'm old, he's young, and he reminds me of when I used to have that kind of energy. Coach Emmanuel is very good at pushing you that extra bit more than you think you can do. You don't think you can do it, but you do end up doing it and then you feel great about it. How does he do this? One word: "EXPLODE!". That's right. Whenever he yells out "EXPLODE!" you do a pre-determined set of moves in a quick, explosive manner at maximum power. It could be at 15 seconds, 10 seconds, 8.5 seconds, 3.141592 seconds, who knows? Or it could be back-to-back-to-back-to-back until you think your arms will fall off but you keep going anyway until you finish the complete drill because it was so damn fun and you love a good challenge and Pavlov or something like that. Off the floor he's got such a kind and calm demeanor and is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. The front desk staff are also wonderful. They greet you by name when you come in, are happy to help you with anything you need, and are just all-around positive and encouraging. Shout-out to Ina (manager and the first friendly smile you'll see most days walking into the gym), Cierra (she was the one who signed me up. When it was time to give her my credit card, I realized I'd left my wallet at home. I told her I'd run home real quick to get my wallet and be right back. On the way home I laughed because I realized that sounded like a stereotypical bad line to dump a business and that she probably was thinking "yeah, right, lady." I think she was surprised I actually came back within 5 minutes.), Abby (she greeted me by name the first time we met. How did she know? Is that a superpower?), and one other girl I saw one time I came in but sorry I didn't catch her name. They make me happy to show my face there every day. If you're curious or on the fence about boxing or kickboxing, come try out Title! At the very least, you'll get a (first time is) free fun and effective workout. Or maybe, just maybe, you'll discover your newest favorite sweat therapy.

But honestly, my experience was very bad. I came on a Saturday and arrived about 20 minutes early. When I told him I had never trained in martial arts or kickboxing before, instead of giving me basic guidance, he seemed annoyed that I didn't know anything. Then he told me to warm up by myself. When I came back, there was only one other student there, and that person had only been training for about a month. But the person who actually showed me what to do was that student, not Nam Phan. During training, Nam Phan briefly demonstrated a few moves and then told me to practice with the other student as if I had already been training for a long time. I was a complete beginner, so it was honestly very difficult to keep up. Throughout the entire session, he only corrected me once, but kept yelling loudly at me whenever I made mistakes. I felt extremely uncomfortable but still tried to continue training. Since it was my first class, I also didn't know what I needed to prepare. Before I came, he specifically told me I didn't need to bring anything. But when training started, he suddenly asked if I had boxing gloves. When I said no, he threw the gloves he was holding onto the ground aggressively and asked in an irritated tone why I didn't prepare anything. Throughout the whole session, the way he spoke and his attitude made me feel like I was being scolded for not knowing anything instead of being guided as a beginner. He spoke Vietnamese very quietly and unclearly, so many times I couldn't even understand what he was saying. That training session made me feel extremely bad and uncomfortable.
