The kids seem to have a great time while learning Aikido and respect. The kid classes are offered five times a week and kids are welcome to come to as many classes as they like a week. The classes coincide with yoga classes at grassroots next door so parents can do yoga while the kiddos practice, although I haven't taken advantage because it's so fun to watch my son I don't want to leave! They also offer adult Aikido, karate and tai chi in a clean and welcoming dojo.

I asked...no hounded...my children's father to get them enrolled in Jiu Jitsu because my daughter was in it before and she loved it. This is the place he chose. First and foremost...Chaz is AWESOME. He helped me when I was struggling to learn the ropes from belt tying to what was up with the student cards. He's the best. Professor Wes, I think it is, is great as well. He's really good with the kids. He's firm but knows how to laugh with them as well when it's appropriate. He seems very kind and patient. He takes time with the parents as well which is important to me. The issues I have are that I've watched the kids sparring and although Professor Wes is in there, he can only watch so many at a time. It looks like there might be junior instructors in the classes as well so I think they help but I see these kids rolling without a lot of correction. I'm just wondering how they learn. I'm guessing that will come in time which is why I'm determined to get my kids there at least three times per week. I hate to sound like a skeptic because I'm not. I have watched this sport for years and love it. I hounded the children's father forever to do this so I am definitely a fan. Gracie Jiu Jitsu is world renowned so I'm expecting to see great results. I want to see my children grow, become more disciplined, more self aware but mostly, gain self esteem. Time will tell. The parking lot is weird. I feel like I'm going to get in an accident when I pull in but so far I haven't. I wish there wasn't a wall so I could see the kids better from the waiting area but whatever. We aren't supposed to interfere anyway. All in all, I have high hopes and I'm confident Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will deliver.

They require written notice before they'll process a…read morecancellation and despite their paperwork having a spot for "email date," they wouldn't accept an email as cancellation notice. 3 weeks after emailing them, I got charged anyway and had to make a special trip to sign to confirm, yet again, that I did want to cancel. This is all despite the fact that my son has not been to classes for at least 6 weeks before giving them the written notice via email that apparently isn't the same thing as actual written notice.

We asked her if she was interested in trying out a class and she said she was, however when we got there she refused to participate. After watching the class having a lot of fun she insisted that she wanted to return. We returned but she continued to refuse to participate - the staff was incredibly patient with her and let us visit a few classes without fee. I just decided to sign my daughter up and continue to encourage her to participate and with their incredible patience and continuous encouragement she finally relented. She is now nearing completion of her yellow belt at the age of 4. She loves the Tiny Tigers program and enjoys getting to accomplish different goals (other than the different color belts) - they have good habit worksheets that they complete each week (doing chores, being respectful at home, completing school work), stars for homework they complete, and other such incentives. The instruction is great and there are helpers in the class that assist the instructor in helping those kiddos that may be struggling or that are new. It is also nice because the kids must practice at home so it pushes the parents to really take an active role in learning the moves and helping your kid see that they have to work hard beyond the time they are actually in the class. The environment is very structured and the focus is on helping kids learn to follow instruction, work towards a goal, and self control. Each month they focus on different life values such as self control, respect, honestly, integrity, and honor. The instructor always asks the kids how their day is going and allows some time to just talk with them casually before class begins. We've had nothing but a great experience at this ATA location and just think every one here is fantastic. Thank you Ms. Dalida, Mr. Dalida, Ms. Strange and Ms. Robinson for helping our little one gain a strong sense of self confidence!!

This is a school for kids not adults. I was a member for years. I was rarely promoted while 12…read moreyear olds were black belts. I started sparring black belts and made them look like fools. Sensei Anna hated me so much, she strangled me unconscious-- an illegal move in karate -- and tried to kill me. I'm lucky to be alive. If you value your life, you will avoid this school. If they don't like you, they will try to kill you. They say "karate is a dangerous sport and you signed a waiver." It doesn't matter that the instructor killed you with an illegal tactic. This is the most dangerous karate school in existence. If you walk out there alive, count yourself lucky. They also used to have a sadistic monster there named Clarence who would fight new white belts at full force using every illegal tactic in the book. Run from this school. The irony is that I caught one of Sensei Anna's kicks. I could have kicked her remaining leg out from underneath her, but I was trying to be kind, sportsman like. My reward for kindness was that she tried to kill me. I look over all of these five star reviews from parents. None of these people have had to spar Anna. She's a dirty fighter. If she can't win fair and square, she will cheat.

Not only has he learned skills in karate that enhance his core strength and dexterity, he is also learning responsibility and commitment. The senseis here are very patient with my son and have worked with him at his level. They encourage him and even check up on him if he is absent. They are truthful about his skills, yet kind. They have several different levels of classes and each student must work on a homework sheet each month as well as a Self Discipline card that the students return before they are allowed to test up in belts. The Self Discipline cards have a reading section, a karate practice section, and a chores section. MEKA also bring in senpais at times to work with the students one on one or in small groups to help them be more successful. I'm so very glad that we found this dojo. From my very first class I got a workout and left with applicable skills, which is extremely hard to do! The first class I took was the Krav Maga. I was a little intimidated at first, being the only one in the class that didn't have some kind of belt, but the other students and Zane, the owner and instructor, made me feel really welcome. Just to be clear, what I am looking for is to be actually able to deploy moves, not just run through drills, and Zane gives you that right from the beginning. We worked on disarming a knife, two person attack, and kicking drills. The other class I have attended is the Women's Self Defense class. This is taught by Michelle, Zane's wife. I think every woman needs to take this class! We learned that pony tail grabs are a common attack point and how to disable someone that attacks in this manner. Repetition makes perfect but what I like is that after one class you have enough grip on the fundamentals that I feel like I could deploy some version of it. Great place!!

The teacher seemed unable to manage kids in this age group. 90% of the classes ended up being split into groups where some slightly older kids were teaching the younger kids. The older kids aren't trained to coach and help with techniques. I feel with the amount you pay each month, your child should be taught by someone with coaching experience and help them to become comfortable and familiar with at least some skills. On top of that, Buyer Beware, they charge you a $200 fee to cancel your child's classes regardless of how long he or she attended classes at this dojo. They also charge you for classes even when the dojo is closed for repairs like floor installation or A/C outage. I would not recommend or return.
