There are no grab bars to assist it getting up. Turns out this room is for hearing impaired disability. I go to take a shower before meeting family for dinner. I notice I'm ankle deep in water. The tub is not draining. I unscrewed the drain cap hoping it would help. It did not. I reached down and pulled a gawd awful mess out of the drain. Something was at least 12 inches long. Also a little bag with writing came out. Called front desk asking for a manager. None on duty. I requested someone come down right away to see this mess. Front desk clerk and a maintenance man arrived. Desk clerk said I should have called for maintenance. Tough to do in the middle of the shower. I asked for a reduction in price. She couldn't do that but would give me points. Received an email stating I got 2500 pts. Later I call the Marriott 800 number and registered a complaint. He couldn't change the price but gave me an additional 2500 points. Got a case number and was told management would contact me. Will attempt to attach a photo.

The people that run the place are very nice and accommodating. They make it feel like a home away from home. It's always a peaceful and relaxing experience at the Fitch House. On this last visit I went to the front desk the morning after our first night and they did admit people do complain. We had booked a 3 night stay but left after two. Neither my husband or I could bear another night of getting on and off the bed to get the AC going. So we came home with a fuller wallet because our play time was cut short. The room was large, the beds were comfortable, and it was quiet and tidy -- perfect for one night with my mom. Now for the reason I titled this "The Bath Tub." I went out of my way to find an IHG hotel with a bathtub, because I really wanted to take a bath (I haven't been able to at home lately). I even called ahead and spoke with Fred, who was super nice and confirmed that my specific room had a tub. When I checked in, I asked if the room had a coffee maker. The manager/owner said, "I don't know, some rooms do and some don't," which didn't inspire confidence -- but thankfully ours did. Later that night, I went to take my bath, and the tub stopper didn't work -- the rubber was worn off. I called the front desk just so she could make a note, not expecting it to be fixed that night. The next morning, breakfast was typical for this brand -- okay, not great, but plenty to choose from, and the breakfast staff were friendly and helpful. After breakfast, I told the front desk again that the stopper was broken. I asked, "What will you do?" She said, "Maintenance will fix it." I said, "I mean in terms of customer service -- hello, a sorry, maybe some points, something." She just stared at me, so I said, "Never mind." A little later, Manny from maintenance came up, checked it, and was wonderful -- kind, understanding, and genuinely cared that I'd paid for something I didn't receive. Manny got it -- he should be in charge of customer service. I only mention names when I have something positive to say -- thank you, Fred and Manny, for doing your jobs with kindness and respect.

We stayed in the Stafford Suite circa 1778, which was an entire suite. (King bed, kitchen with all necessities, bathroom, cozy livingroom filled with games and so on...). I was in the area visiting UConn for the weekend so this was perfect; about 25 mins away. I had two issues with this stay and I will advise if you have ASTHMA or are an extreme ALLERGENIC person this may not be the right place for you. I struggled!!! 1) there's no heat in any rooms. There's individuals small Honeywell heaters in the bedroom and livingroom which take a lifetime to heat up the rooms. The bathroom does have its own heater. I tried leaving the heater on on low during the day while I left so when I came back I could be comfortable but it was turned off when I came back, I'm assuming the owner went there during the day. Since it's the room is technically under the room floors it's colder plus it's October fall in New England, it's generally cold here. 2) the mildew smell in there is very intense. We had to come home and wash everything. The smell was even trapped in my hair, it stunk badly. In order for them to mask the smell, everything is perfumed heavily. The sheets in the bed are heavily scented with whatever it is they use. If you are an ASTHMATIC or just a Plain ALLERGEN individual this May be a major issue for you. I know it was for me. After laying down for a few minutes, i started coughing, my chest hurt, and then shortly after I went into a full blown asthma attack. We then switched pillows from the couch to the bed and I also threw the blanket that was on the couch of the sheets on the bed and that's how I was able to sleep for the days we were there. Thankfully the couch items were not scented. Please be ware! Don't want anyone to suffer the same. Otherwise the place is beautiful, cozy, romantic if your if your looking for that setting and quiet. Can't speak in regards to food ( I ate out).

The rooms were immaculate and the beds were incredibly comfortable (we typically stay at high-end hotels, and I expect to be a little disappointed in beds when staying at smaller places - not the case here!). I say beds because Danele pulled out the sofa for my son, and I wound up sleeping on it for part of the night - remarkably comfortable! The kitchen had everything we needed if we wanted to cook (we didn't!), including freshly ground (that day!) coffee, and Danele's breakfasts were delicious. When we had a splinter emergency with my youngest, Danele was able to help out with first aid supplies and kid-friendly band-aids. She saved the day! I can't say enough good things about this place. It exceeded my expectations in every way. We are looking forward to coming back again.

Review for the hotel accommodations…read more When you visit Sturbridge, you know antiquity will be part of the theme. Olde buildings, historical relics, period clothing- all the stuff of retro-tourism. And when you stay at a place called the Public House, you know the theme will be continued ling after the time at the Sturbridge Villiage is spent. It's an after-hours continuation of your historical proclivities, and for many, a welcome extension. The main house smells like fireplace, has wonderful construction materials, lead windows, exposed beams- you are staying in an important place that echoes with hundreds of years of conversations and ales. However, book through hotels.com, and your 1750 time warp lands you oddly in 1980. No main inn to be found; rather, you pioneer your wagon to the remotest of the motel complex where nary 2 other weary travelers have been sequestered, and in this desolation you unlock your door to Nancy Reagan, the Bee Gees, and ET. 1980 greets you with mismatched antique-ish furnature, tiled bathtubs, and plug-in electronic clock radios. Curtains look like wallpaper from Williamsburg- replete with pioneer hunting scenes- and carpeting is an odd green color. See, subjecting yourself to a historical setting has backfired, and though antiquey, it isn't anything other than a mishmash of castaway artifacts, seeking a home in the farthest of corners of the Public House complex. And this is your dilemma...you wanted this, and this you have received. Women in their 49's in 1980 would have swooned into the arms of their lovers, to be surrounded by such immersion early Americana! To be concise, the furthest block of rooms is a woefully outdated historical remnant that refuses to modernize. To the credit or historical preservationalists, it is clean, perfectly functional, and has good water pressure and comfortable mattresses and pillows. The AC may be a little noisey- possibly in an attempt to drown out semi-trucks on the nearby highway, rolling over the rumble strips along the white line- but it blows cold, and the room doesn't have odors. It is like the frilled tuxedo with bellbottom paints in your grandfathers closet; still functional and clean, but slightly outdated. And this is the conundrum when staying in a historical hotel: you asked for it. We did have a good night at the Public House, and the delicious breakfast of baked goods in the Bakery the next morning was appreciated. Coffee cake and coffee were a good combination before taking ye olde family back on the road!
