After attending the Yelp Summer Bucket List Segway tour at the Garage in OTR my husband and I decided to take a walk down Vine and check out all of the local venues! Very yummy!!! I got the peppermint ice cream which was creamy but had delicious chunks of perfectly sugary peppermint every 7 bites or so. I also got a scoop of their pumpkin ice cream which was delightfully simple, not to sweet, but not bland either. The pumpkin made the peppermint not so overpowering (although it wasn't as is) and they complimented each other well. Came in town recently on business and stopped in to get buckeyes to take home- $6.95 for 8 of them- not a bad deal!

Great local ice cream shop! They also have really good boxed chocolates. They are decently priced and have bottled and glass soda! The worker "Sarah" was so sweet and did a great friendly job. It's also in a really good location. read more

This is an update and correction about Grarter's Chunky Chunky Hippo ice cream that I recently had for the first time. I have been asked about this new flavor by several people who are interested in trying it so I want to be accurate about it. The ice cream is toffee flavored. The milk chocolate caramel cups are described as truffles. I could not make that distinction when I had it. There were so few of them and they are very small compared to the chocolate chunks in their other ice cream flavors. As for the peanuts they are salted and taste good but there are way too many of them in this ice cream. The texture is too chunky with peanuts and there is not enough of the competing toffee ice cream and chocolate caramel flavor. Always a delight. This is Roger's first time to graders. He ordered the black raspberry chocolate chip and he really enjoyed it. Coming from Texas he compared at the bluebell ice cream and said " it is not an artificial tasting at the bluebell ice cream". I ordered the same thing as he did however I've had the mango in the past and really enjoyed it as well. I heard there were 2 things to eat while in Cincinnati -- Graeters Ice cream was one of them. We decided to give it a try nit and was not impressed. The staff was rude and rushing you, I told them I wanted something chocolatey, but just not plain chocolate, they said the buckeye was a popular flavor, so I decided to try it. They have a damn good strawberry ice-cream and they're open relatively late. This gets a "1 michelin star" from me- if you're in the neighborhood you should pop in for a scoop. If you're not in the neighborhood I'm pretty sure you'll survive without having it. read more

I'm not a huge ice cream fan but I do prefer the fancy stuff. After eating and drinking way too much at the bars/restaurants down the street, my friend said I have to have Graater's if visiting Cincinnati. I just had a single scoop of the signature chip flavor and by golly it was pretty damn good. All the other flavors looked tempting as well but this one was awesome. This ice cream and candy is as good as it gets. I always go with the local favorite which is black raspberry chocolate chip. This ice cream is salty as it is sweet. I always get two scoops in a chocolate dipped waffle cone followed with a side of an "afternoon nap"! This was my first time experiencing Graeter's. Apparently this is a Cincinnati staple and all the locals recommended that I check it out. It's located in Over-The-Rhine, so don't expect to find parking close by. I'm personally not a big ice cream person (I prefer frozen yogurt), but this was pretty good. I got the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in a cone and it was great. I got to taste quite a number of their other flavors, and there were only a few that I didn't care for. I stood there for 3 minutes, briefly stepped away to see if there was a restroom I was planning on using after I ordered, came back and was told I lost my place in line because I stepped away for what was literally 10 seconds. If you are a fan of ice cream, this is the place for you. The only reason I didn't stop in two or three times a day was due to a general concern for my health. My wife introduced me to Graeter's when we first started dating 7 years ago. I was promised "the best ice cream you'll ever have." As with most expectations, I went in skeptical, but boy was I surprised! Her statement was 100% correct. Graeter's is the smoothest, creamiest, most flavorful ice cream I've ever had. I regularly come back time and again. The black raspberry chip is my consistent favorite, but I've recently been branching out to the Black Cherry Chip. The seasonal flavors are always great, and they provide a good excuse to return regularly (as if you needed that). I should qualify my statement on best ice cream: My wife is certainly the aficionado in the family when it comes to ice cream, and she sees a plethora of criteria and seems to be impressed with subtle distinctions. While I respect that, I'm pretty basic when it comes to what I like: It has to have amazing constantly and incredible flavor. If those two things are there, I'm happy. Unfortunately, SO MUCH ice cream fails one or both of these criteria. Graeter's not only satisfies both of these; it exceeds them. If you are feeling like doing some ready, look up the French Pot method they have used since the mid 19th century to make the ice cream; it's fascinating. Graeter's will always be my local go-to when it comes to dessert. I also have a friend out of town who pays $$$ to have it shipped across the country for his parties, so you know it must be good. I had the worst service from a guy named Semion at the Graeter's located in OTR. He rang our order up wrong and when I asked for the correction he got annoyed and huffy about it. Then he handed me my receipt and told me I had over 100 Graeter's points so I was eligible for a free item up to $12.95. (He said it could only be redeemed that day) I asked if it could be ice cream but he said merchandise only. So I asked him to show me the t-shirts they sell and in a very annoyed voice said, "We don't have any of them up here, I'd have to go ALL the way to the basement to get one." So I asked if he could get one before my family and I left and said, probably not." So here I have this REWARD coupon valid only that day for being a very regular customer and he refused to show me the item I wanted. Lastly, I saw a few of the t-shirts displayed on a window sill, grabbed my size and took it back to the register to claim my rewards item. He then tells me I can only get the t-shirt if I make a purchase to which I responded, I just bought 5 cups of ice-cream. Not to mention, NO WHERE was it stated that I could only get my reward with a second purchase. So the nice lady next to me told him to use her ice cream cone on my rewards card so it would count for another purchase and he got mad about that and the tried to over charge her for her cone. I was FINALLY given the shirt and he wouldn't let me keep my receipt for the free item even though he'd already scanned the bar code, so I took a photo of it for proof that no where stated I had to make another purchase to receive my free item. Bottom line, his attitude was terrible, he acted like I was bothering him when I asked to see the t-shirts in the first place, then acted annoyed the he had to make a correction after over charging me on my first transaction, and then was refusing to give me the free item is earned by spending more than $100 at Graeter's. I will only return there if I don't mind being treated poorly simply for asking for the attendant to serve me/the customer, don't mind being told "no" when asking to see some merchandise, don't care if I'm over charged, and lastly, being lied to in order to get more money/another transaction. We stopped by Graeter's on Friday night after a late lunch and planned to really indulge. We are so glad we did! With a family of four, we had the opportunity to try many items. The two-scoop black raspberry "chip" in a waffle cone was awesome. The chips are more like boulders - they are huge. We also had a scoop of coconut chip and cookie dough chip - both awesome. The simple vanilla was also thick and packed with flavor. One note - this is some flavorful stuff, and we could see it being overwhelming if you come straight after a meal. Come with room in your belly and enjoy it all. If you are a fan of black raspberry chip, this is really a signature item. read more
