Finally got to try Schneider's ice cream! It's really delicious and hits the spot on a hot day. There's a nice outdoor seating area as well as some benches along the sidewalk. Service was good too. While we just got ice cream, we did look at the candies as well, but they are pretty pricey. read more

Never ever skip their cookies and cream ice cream! It's my favorite and I get it everytime. This is a family owned shop that has been around for a long time. It's been a staple of mine for years when I lived here. Then I was back in town for the Taylor Swift concert. Bellevue outdid itself welcoming people from all over. They had three "swiftie" themed ice cream options and my crew got two of the three. Hazy and a lover sundae- both loved them. I settled for the non dairy ice ball pina colada flavor. So darn good. Love this place ! So heard so much about the ice balls that I had to come out and try it. The line was pretty long but worth the wait. Since it was my first I wasn't sure how it worked. The girl at the counter was very helpful and provided suggestions on what the favorites flavors were. I asked her to explain what it was that I was hearing so much about. So basically it is shaved ice, a scoop or two of ice cream topped with more shaved ice then topped with your favorite syrup. i wad able to choose any flavor ice cream... i went with chocolate chip cookie dough and strawberry syrup. sounds like a bad combination but it was actually better than what i expected. The ice cream with the shaved ice was amazing and different at the same time. it was a different texture of goodness, ice and ice cream mixed together. Schneider's Sweet Shop has been open since 1939 and still is kicking it with those old school sweet shop vibes. They have homemade everything. Their chocolates and candies, ice cream and ice balls. I hadn't been here before until a few months ago when my Grandma took me because I hadn't had an "Ice Ball" before. She couldn't believe it. I'd lived down here for at least eight years now and I hadn't had an Ice Ball. For those of you who don't know, an Ice Ball is just shaved ice. But in northern Kentucky, people like to get it with vanilla ice cream in the bottom or middle of it. The first time I came here I got the Ice Ball with ice cream. It was good with ice cream but I prefer it just like a regular Ice Ball. No Ice cream. They have so many flavors to get as your flavoring for your Ice Ball, I pretty much always get Rainbow. Because I'm secretly, (Not so secretly) a five year old. The homemade ice cream is good as well. You can get just scoops or even Banana Splits or ice cream sodas. They actually still have a soda fountain and that's cool. The homemade candies are where they lose a star with me. They have good Opera Creams and Fudge, but I hade their Malt Balls and Buckeyes before (Two of my favorite things.) and I didn't like those at all. So it's very hit or miss. This place can be packed at night during the summer. It's super small, has limited indoor seating and has an outside patio to sit on. I always get my food to go but sometimes standing in line with eight families who all have twenty kids who are all screaming in a small store, pushes my patience sometimes. Everyone who works here is always super nice and welcoming. I would say though, out of the few spots in Northern Kentucky to get an ice ball, this is the place to go. read more

Such a nice little spot to get a sweet treat. I heard about this place online and decided to get my mom some peanut butter fudge from here as part of her Mother's Day gift. She called to let me know it was really good and smooth. They had a whole glass display case of other chocolates and candies available plus ice cream. My sister and I really liked the ice cream. I also snagged some candy cigarettes for my mom as a gag gift. Reasonable prices and open later into the evening, which makes it easier to enjoy. This sweet shop is so lovely and special to me, that I just had to post my review all the way from Denver, Colorado. My grandparents are from the Covington-Bellevue area; family legend has it that my grandpa used to buy my grandma sweets from Schneider's. Growing up, the black-and-gold box was always a sign that it was a special occasion in their house in Michigan, where they ultimately settled down and raised their family. When my in-laws visited Covington recently, they visited the shop and sent us some opera creams all the way in Colorado. The box that arrived was (absolutely delicious) assorted chocolates, not opera creams. My mother in law called to correct the ordered and a box of opera creams arrived a few days later with a note from Schneider's staff acknowledging the mix-up. They were exactly as amazing as ever, and transported me back to my grandparents' house! Excellent customer service, highest quality products, and nostalgia to boot. My boyfriend and I came here for the first time and were blown away. We can see why it's so busy and such a hot topic! The moment you open the door, the smell of sweet treats hits you and instantly makes you hungry. He got a single scoop black raspberry chip on a waffle cone and said it was good. I had the ice ball with ice cream and strawberry syrup and was in heaven. This is single handed Lu the best dessert I've ever had. My boyfriend liked mine so much he went back to get a small! Over the decades, prices have changed, but the hometown feeling hasn't. Recently, Schneider's added a patio which is a great addition to the experience: sit, relax, and enjoy your ice ball while taking in the ambience and history of Bellevue. I always get a strawberry ice ball with homemade vanilla ice cream - but their other ice cream flavors look so good too! Next time I want to try the peach (here for the summer). Where has this place been all my life? Well, actually Schneider's has been in the same Bellevue location since 1939, I just didn't know about it. For generations, Schneider's has been selling a variety of candies (opera cream, fudge, caramels, cordial cherries, turtles, Kentucky cream candy, and more), homemade ice cream and ice balls, malts, shakes, floats, sundaes, and many more items that are giving me a cavity just thinking about them. I went here to pickup some Mother's Day gifts for my mom, grandmother, and mother-in-law. Selecting three different candies, I was being pretty sneaky because I knew I would get to try all of them. The staff was very helpful, even gift wrapping and marking them with a post-it note so I could identify each one. The variety box of truffles was so unbelievable. These were the freshest truffles I've ever had. Rich and creamy, that melt in your mouth chocolate definitely won me some brownie points. For my mother, I bought chocolate-covered pretzels. The contrast between the sweetness of the milk chocolate and the saltiness of the pretzel was divine. I've never been a huge fan of cordial cherries, but the ones I bought for my grandma were really good. I'll definitely be back to this neighborhood sweet shop. The inside may not have the same charm as Aglamesis, but I think the candy is just as good. read more

This place so cute--a total throwback to another era. They have hard candy in big glass jars (first time I've seen horehound candy outside of a movie/book), homemade chocolates and Kentucky cream candy, and hand-dipped ice cream. The charm was missing a bit from the styrofoam cup my ice cream was served in, but it was a yummy refreshment from the oppressive heat and humidity outside. This is a great stop for dessert if you've just dined at one of the restaurants on Fairfield Ave and would also be a good place to pick up some speciality candy or chocolates for a hostess or other gift. read more

Schneider's lives up to its name, it is sweet! My favorite candy is the dark chocolate covered cherries. Their chocolates make for a very easy light dessert after dinner when you have guests or when you don't. The range of dark chocolate they offer became a really bad habit this spring. When I could no longer fit into my clothes I had to break the habit. My grandson loves coming here and getting to pick out a treat or two every time he visits me.
