The office and staff are also great. Granted, I am not a person who requires a lot of dental work. Lucky for me, I only have a couple of fillings at 75 years of age. Today, I had a very unpleasant experience with a long-time hygienist who has been employed there for many years. I felt she was very inconsiderate and rude when cleaning my teeth, so much so, that I am seriously considering finding a dentist that is more convenient to my location and a hygienist that is more sensitive and caring and that enjoys her job. Tell me honestly, Have you ever had a hygienist polish your teeth before cleaning them and fill your mouth with so much water that you are gagging and drowning in the fluid?

I…read morebegan visiting his practice when I first moved here 11 years ago and have had no reason to leave - despite urging from other family and friends to try their "superior, more modern" dental offices. Dr. Wilburn's staff is professional and caring and they have a sense of humor. Last year when the lights went out during a torrential rain storm, they instructed other patients to leave and come back the next day when power most likely would be restored. Not me, though. The sole hygenist in the office was in the middle of cleaning my teeth. She said to me, "We have enough juice from the generator to finish you up." So I agreed to stay. With Dr. Wilburn's dental assistant holding a bright flashlight over my face, the hygenist continued to clean my teeth. Dr. Wilburn cheered them on, and we all had a great laugh after they were done with me. Today, for the 2nd, maybe 3rd time, maybe even 4th time, I chipped my front tooth when I absentmindedly chomped down on my thumbnail to rid myself of a hang-nail. Dr. Wilburn had tried unsuccessfully before to use resin to repair the damage, and when the insurance company last year finally approved a veneer filling, he told me it would last a minimum of 5 years. Well, not so. With this new, deep chip, my tooth felt especially jaggedly and it throbbed. I called his office and left a message on the emergency voice-mail number explaining that it wasn't a life-threatening issue yet it was uncomfortable and sharp against my tongue and especially untimely in the middle of the Christmas season with holiday parties when I needed to smile. Today is Saturday, mind you, and I thought his office would call me back on Monday. Yet to my rescue and delight, Dr. Wilburn called me back within 3 hours and asked if I could meet him at his office ASAP. In a period of 30 minutes, he temporarily repaired my tooth, told me to expect a call from his staff Monday after they'd contacted my insurance to see if another veneer (or better yet, a crown) might be authorized, and sent me out of the office with a smile I can temporarily be proud of. If that isn't dedication to patient service, then what is?

Leaving me without an established dentist when I really needed one. Getting credible recommendations from friends was my first criteria for finding a dentist. I called a few, and not surprisingly I could not get an immediate appointment. Researching online, I found the offices of Andrew McCormick DDS & Austin Griffith DDS, were voted Voted Best Dentist in Santa Rosa by Readers of Bohemian Magazine. I gave them a call, and I was pleasantly surprised to get an appointment the very next day. They have been gracious and accommodating ever since then. On my first visit, Dr. Griffith spent an inordinate amount of time going over my history, and current dental issue. He listened to my concerns including my fears, he was compassionate, kind, and knowledgeable. And as an added plus, he had a great sense of humor! If you are looking for an experienced dentist who takes the time to listen to you, has good communication skills, is thoughtful, and gentle, Dr. Griffith fits the bill. In addition, the dental staff is professional, courteous, and friendly. The office is very clean, and the floor to ceiling windows in the exam room provide a serene view, helping to promote relaxation, in what can be a stressful environment.

I…read morechose Dr. Murolo as my dentist after moving to this area in Fall 2024, and even though I had no pain or problems with my teeth he told me that I have 4 fillings that are old and need to be replaced. So I do, but now two of the fillings that he replaced hurt anytime I eat. It is extremely frustrating to have had no problems with your teeth, and then you go see the dentist and all of a sudden your teeth start hurting. He says the bite needs to be adjusted, and so I get the bite adjusted . . . 4 different times. Each time it takes more than a week to get an appointment for a 5 minute procedure. Also the pain is getting better with each adjustment but it's not disappearing. So finally it's decided that the fillings need to be re-done, and it takes almost a month to get an appointment for this. (Seriously - I messaged them on 12/17 and their earliest appointment was 1/14). Then when I get there they claim that I was late and they can't see me for another two weeks. Also at this point the pain has gotten much worse for some reason - my teeth are now constantly hurting and food is getting stuck in between the two fillings every time I eat. It is literal agony but they will not give me an appointment. I can't stand the pain anymore and find another dental practice whose angel of a dentist agrees to see me for an emergency appointment the next day. When I get there they discover that the fillings that Dr. Murolo did BROKE after only three months and bacteria had entered the site. That's why the pain had become so severe all of a sudden. It's so bad that the new dentist re-does my fillings on the spot, but it costs me $300+ because my insurance will not cover a re-do so soon on the fillings. I am so happy to be pain-free now but had a terrible experience with this practice and would not recommend them. Impossible to get an appointment in a timely manner and like I mentioned, fillings broke after only three months, which I can't believe is even possible. Last of all front desk was terribly unprofessional and kept sending us $500+ bills and claiming my husband did not have insurance . . . ma'am, you spelled his last name wrong, that's why you couldn't find him in the insurance system. Told her this and she just giggled and blamed it on "multitasking." There are so many great dentists out there (including the new one I randomly found while desperately searching for an emergency appointment) that you should not waste your time with this practice.

She was very thorough and after polishing went back again to make sure everything was smooth. As usual you spend most of your time with the hygienist and then Dr. Sanchez comes in at the end. I have horror stories to tell about some of those doctors who did me a whole lot more harm than good. I recently fired my dentist of the past 10 years because of some unforgiveable mistakes he made with my mouth. Heard from friends and neighbors that Dr. Sanchez here at Oakmont is excellent. And right those folks are. I've seen Dr. Sanchez three times over the past 4 months. His technique is perfect. He does not over treat nor over sell services. I cracked a tooth yesterday, broke that thing right in half. Dr. Sanchez was able to save the roots. He put on a temporary cap in 30 minutes. The office has a 3D printer that makes permanent caps and crowns. I get my permanent crown installed tomorrow. That's a new tooth in 48 hours. Go tell your dentist about that. Thus when I moved, I knew it was time for me to suck it up, be an adult, and get a new dentist; and that's how I found Dr S. The first redeeming factor was the location. Super close to my work, and just off the freeway on the Airport blvd, near the Airport Club Gym. They are located next to relaxing lake, in a beautifully appointed medical building that looks nothing like a dental facility, and more like a house. Ambiance is relaxing, calm, and friendly, and offset any of my beginning nerves from walking in. Second redeeming factor was Bodie. I LOVE dogs. The office has a sweet, incredibly adorable collie/sheltie owned by the doctor, and this dog is so snuggly and cute, he makes pet therapy take on a new meaning. Somehow just his presence in the office softened my stress, and relaxed me. Doctor S is professional, accommodating, and easy to talk to. He made my initial visit much more palatable than I had anticipated, and he really heard me about my teeth, my concerns, and my questions. The dental hygienist that cleaned my teeth the following day was equally as positive. She was understanding about my dental hazards, tooth sensitivity, and was thorough in my cleaning. I ended up with the goodie bag of toothpaste, brushes and floss, but all tailored specifically to my dental needs. I don't think anything can ever truly make going to the dentist fun and easy, but Dr S and his team are well on the way for making it closer to a reality. I'm thrilled that Dr S exists, and is one more doctor that is bridging the gap between the world's negative opinion of dentists, and the possibility of being thankfully wrong.
