Manager extremely rude!!! He was in a bad mold clearly and didn't care how he talked to people or treated them!

Following a travel review in The NY Times that mentioned Gramps, we visited while in Wynwood over the weekend. The bar itself is nothing special but the terrace area is a really good space to chill out on a Sunday afternoon. Gramps has a lot going on. First, the music and environment are different depending on where you are hanging out. At the bar it was a Punk Rock scene. Outside they had a live band which I am not quite sure their genre, but it was very unique. In the back room they had a live band as well, which the bartender informed us about after it was over. The good: 1. The staff - they are super friendly and really chill. 2. The concept - I like the idea of having multiple areas with multiple genres. It's like bar hopping in one place. The bad: 1. Our last stop last night before we left.. first impression was 3 cross dressers wandering in in ladies clothes so my experience should only get more positive from there until I walked into the bathroom and saw a guy putting on makeup in the mirror.. if my wife and couple we were with weren't there I would've left then. Other than the extreme weirdness of whatever was going on there the beer was pretty good and they had some tvs going which was nice. Baseball was on but I'd say a more crowd friendly channel for the group I witnessed in there was probably MSNBC or CNN.. the Rachel Maddow show would've killed there!! . Might go back again. This is a great "divey" type bar that is open real late during the week which is awesome! Nice and dark, just like I like my bars - and the drinks were reasonable priced. I had a good sized Vodka club soda and it was only $8. In Miami, that's a damn steal! This area (as most of you know) is a bit tricky when it come to parking, however, I was there on a Tuesday at 11:30 pm so parking was not a problem for me... can't really say how it is when it's busy. Let me start by saying the white guy at the front door with the dreads is FUCKING AWESOME!!!! super polite and respectful while checking our ids, and even put up with our annoying drunk talking as we would bother him periodically throughout the night. If you answered no, just stop reading. Leave. Get out. Go home to your cotton Dockers. Gramps is the anti-bar. Wait, that's wrong. MOST EVERYTHING ELSE in Miami is the anti-bar. Gramps is everything you could ever want from a neighborhood bar: dank, dirty, cheap, smoke-filled, adorned by management like a garage band's rehearsal space (i.e. a garage), and patronized by people who really just don't care. Why is this important? Because if you're going to your neighborhood bar, the last thing you want to worry about is being under-dressed and over-scrutinized. What you want is to have a good time. What you NEED is to do so without being made to think about it. And yes, I know these aren't the eighties. I know that we're plagued by over-thinking and the nuisance of emotion and the ennui of millennial living. But please. Please. Turn it off every now and then. Order a beer and a shot for eight bucks. Smoke a cigarette, toss the butt, and don't think twice about how long it might take to biodegrade. You deserve the break. And so do the rest of us. read more

Fun hangout spot with a decent selection of brews on tap. I'd say the big draw for me are the monthly nerd nite events, so if you're looking to trail off the beaten path in Miami, you should definitely hit this place up. read more

I've heard about this place a lot from friends and had always wanted to check it out. Finally on a Tuesday after dinner we were hosting my daughter who was visiting from Los Angeles for the day and figured she would enjoy this kind of place. When we entered they were in the middle of the trivia game. They had tables set up in the middle so we sat at the end inside. I first ordered the moscow mule and it was ok. Then I ordered something with bourbon my favorite. The bartender Luper created me something because I was not in the mood for an Old Fashion. It was delicious! I would stare at this guy from time to time and he really loves what he is doing. I am fascinated when I see a bartender put all his heart and soul into mixing their drinks. This guy is great! A big plus is that they had a good selection of Mezcal. My husband is a big mezcal fan and was elated to know they had a good variety of it to choose from. Luper also created just the right mix for his mezcal drink and I must say it was delicious and refreshing. Towards the end of our night there was a free comedy show in the back side. We decided to check it out. It was a nice way to end the night. I can't wait to come back at another time and hang out on the outside with maybe some music going. $10 dollars for a Jamison shot with a Beck's tall boy???? *Eye Roll*. How can Brooklyn drink combos be less than a Miami "dive"'s (using the term loosely here, this place is a very well manicured bar with clean bathrooms decorated by the graf artists Ahol and Infoe, nice stage, and very nice booths throughout the bar). Gramps is NICE but trying hard to be something its not. I like this place. Not as much as Wood Tavern, but I like this place. The crowd is great and the drinks are pretty good. But im going to be honest with yah, hit you with some real stuff right quick. I'm a girl, and with that being said I like to rock some killer shoes. The back area is like rocks. It looks like an unfinished construction site. My shoes always come out looking horrible when I leave. I hate to be "THAT GIRL" , but im totally going to be "that girl" and that's why im not giving it 5 stars. I can see myself becoming a regular here. Great Wynwood location, 2 indoor bars and an expansive outdoor patio with a huge, decorative stage for live music. In my opinion, this bar is the perfect size - small enough so I feel comfortable wandering around and not losing all of my friends, yet big enough where I can keep myself amused for a while. If you're the type of person who prefers to post up at the bar or chill in a booth with friends all night, you've found your spot...and on the flip side, if you can't be found in one place for more than 5 minutes, you'll be equally happy here. I love this unpretentious and uber comfortable enclave in Wynwood where you can sit out doors on barely restored dining chairs around tatty tables or indoors at comfy booths and just enjoy the company you keep while also taking advantage of not too shabby prices for truly tasteful alcoholic concoctions. Gina and I joined a former co-worker and her friend so we met old pals and made new ones and commiserated on shitty careers and child abuse - fun was had by all! I'm guessing come Art Basel you'll need a military vehicle to get through the crowds and plow your way to a prime time seat but outta season - so worth it to chillax at Gramps. read more

I went to Gramps this past Friday with a group of 10 friends we had fun and enjoyed the company but the customer service at Gramps was TERRIBLE!!! I'll make this short and sweet... My boyfriend went up to the bar and bought two Mexican Mules (Moscow Mules are on their menu and all they needed to do was substitute Tequila for the Vodka). He paid and brought me over my drink and I almost threw up in my mouth. Our entire group of 10 took a sip of the drinks and we came to the conclusion that it indeed tasted like sweaty gym trousers. Barf!!! Long story short I asked my boyfriend who made the drink and he said the girl bartender (she was blonde and the only girl working). I felt bad telling her her drink was terrible so I went up to the guy bartender (mind you the drink was 98% full) to her left and explained to him the situation he said, and I quote, "I can make you another drink but you are still going to have to pay for it". This really pissed me off since the drink was $12 and served in a plastic cup... I replied to him, "Even though it taste like poop (I used another word)?" He said, "yes". My friend could tell I was frazzled and he said, "Hey, don't let this ruin your night." I turned to my friend and said, "This didn't ruin my night." Then I turned to the bartender and said, "Hey man, what's your name?" He hesitated and said, "Ben." I turned back to my friend and said with a vengeance, "BEN ruined my night!" Needless to say, Ben didn't ruin my night. We actually laughed about that comment for the next hour. But heads up, if you like mixed drinks, this is NOT your place. Grab a beer and save your $12. Better yet, if you like Mexican Mules head over to The Butcher Shop. They are only $9 and they were divine! read more

Great ambiance and awesome drinks! This is a really great place to come, sit back, and have a few drinks with friends. Lots of sitting room and plenty of space so you don't feel like a sardine. Good choice of beers like any place in Wynwood. Awesome cocktails (a little pricey but they taste great). You gotta try the Moscow Mule and The Dark & Stormy. And once you've had all those drinks in your system and are ready for a snack, you got the Ms Cheezious food truck right outside. read more

Had the pleasure of stopping into Gramps for the first time today after we got off of our cruise ship and ended up staying longer than planned thanks to Jose's amazing cocktail skills and friendly banter. He truly was a pleasure and made our day. If we didn't have to take the Brightline back to west palm, we would've stayed longer! Can't wait to go back! Hello, For several months, a big group of friends have been going to this place and telling me about how cool it was so I finally listened and decided to give it a try. As a Grovite, I refuse to leave Coconut Grove where bars maybe a bit more expensive but people are awesome in every way. So after a while, they finally convinced me so I ventured out of the 33133 to this "so called" awesome place. So after several visits, I really started to like it so I became 'a regular' so to speak, usually with a group of 6 --sometimes more. We all loved the vibe, the crowd, the music and the drinks. The bartenders were, nice, too! Last Saturday, though, I made the biggest mistake of inviting my peers, including my boss, from a very well known and respected media outlet, and while seated inside enjoying our drinks with my legs along the booth bench with my feet hanging in the air, some very disrespectful guy who look like a cook or the toilet attendant came over and started yelling telling me that I needed to put my feet down. Listen, I get it, i think it's gross, too, when I see people with their feet where they're not supposed to be, but in this case, they were hanging off the bench. And even if they were not, there are ways to communicate but obviously he has no education or common sense whatsoever. So instead of arguing with some, obviously, uneducated, sad lowlife, we decided to call the manager, complained, and left for good. I know this is not going to change anything because one patron, two, or maybe ten are no going to make a difference, but this is how things start to go down in the bar business is this town, the power of world of mouth is more powerefull that you can imagine. I'm thrilled any time I find Sweetwater 420 on tap, so this place has that going for it. Quasi-hipster atmosphere, complete with a photo booth and mirror graffiti in the bathroom. Expect low lighting indoors and a bartender who can pour a beer but might not be the ultimate master of classic cocktails. The outdoor seating is totally cute as long as mosquitoes aren't a-buzzing. read more
