We said we thought the meals ( each couple shared one meal) were on them. The server said that we had been told only our drinks would be on them! Lots of shredded chicken but overall smooth and tasty. We crumbled the bacon to add some texture and that was even better. We ordered Regitze Barner's Favorites, which included Patty shells, Wiener schnitzel, and old fashioned apple stew. We also started with Miss Barner's herring specialty and the Skagen toast, then finished with the kransekage. The staff made the experience even better. When they served the herring, they asked if we knew the proper way to prepare and eat it. Since we did not, they happily walked us through it. They gave the same thoughtful attention to the table next to us, showing them how to debone their fish. It never felt pretentious, just genuinely welcoming and eager to help us non locals experience these Danish dining traditions. The food was fantastic. The Patty shells, filled with chicken and white asparagus, were rich and comforting. The Wiener schnitzel was perfectly crisp with a tender interior and served with amazing potatoes, peas, and a delicious brown sauce. The old fashioned apple stew was light, subtly sweet, and layered with a crisp base, apple compote, lightly whipped unsweetened cream, and a dollop of jam on top. The herring specialty was a great introduction to Danish herring, with well balanced flavors that were approachable even for first timers, while the Skagen toast was fresh, creamy, and packed with sweet shrimp and fragrant dill. Ambience: Although it's a tiny place the aroma of freshly baked bagel won't let you miss this place as you walk past it. It has a bench on the inside and 2 tables with 2 chairs each on the outside. Menu is on the inside and outside as well. You can see a display of fresh veggies and meat behind the glass. The experience: You can pick from a preset menu that's on the wall both inside and outside. They're all bagel sandwiches (bagelwiches?) served hot or cold depending on the protein inside. Small fire icon besides the hot one would cue you as to which of them are hot sandwiches. You can either choose the preset ones or order your own sandwich. They have popular options like omelet, Lox, pulled pork and even veggie options like the veggie, falafel etc. You get to choose from a variety of bagels like cheddar, plain, tomato, sesame and different cream cheese. Feel free to swap out any of it. You can even get different cream cheese on each slice. Veggies are super fresh. If you don't believe, just hear the lettuce crunch as they shape it into your bagel.
