Maui Sugar Mill is exactly what I think of when someone says 'local watering hole' or 'dive bar'…read more Lanny and the crew are amazing, great bartenders and conversation starters. This used to be my spot! If you like live music, be sure to check out their blues night. Get there EARLY! Camp out at the bar and save your seat because it's about to be standing room only. You can reserve a table in advance. If you miss a live music night, just purchase some points for the jukebox. Smoking section outside, no food, but feel free to bring your own. There's pizza, sushi, and sandwiches in the same plaza, so you're set! A staple of the valley! If you go, order a Dark and Stormy for me!

Spent Super Bowl Sunday at Sugar Mill, and it was the very best decision I've made in a long time…read more This place is most definitely "the little bar that could," with a great staff, fun and funny patrons, and an atmosphere that allows for both staunch fans and casual observers. Most people contribute to a pot luck feast that spans the wide world of food, from hot dogs and chili to baked ziti, tacos, meatballs, fried chicken, Chinese food, and on and on -- including some amazing homemade clam chowder from Mike The Mailman. Bartender Natalie did an amazing job of handling the busy crowd with speed and smiles. There were a couple of other staffers on site to watch the game, and they jumped in when she needed a hand with this or that, but for the most part Natalie captained the bar single-handedly for the duration. Kudos to her. It's true, Super Bowl only comes once a year, so other game days don't have the pot luck feast -- Sugar Mill doesn't have a kitchen, though they're happy to have you bring in whatever food you like and eat it there. Food aside, the crowd and the service are always just what you want, making it the perfect place to relax into at game time as Basketball enters the home stretch and baseball steps up to bat.

Horrific behavior.... the venue is not worth what they've put people through. rude, yelling cursing…read moreto get women and other people out of the venue. Super unprofessional. It was just an insane experience a friend of mine put together a networking event for designers, etc. and Moe came in there and was just telling everyone to get the fuck out and he snatched the microphone out of this woman's hands while she was trying to make the announcement for people to leave because he was unhappy, but the venue was professionally the event was very calm, relaxed, and everyone was happily networking. There was nothing wrong going so came in and started shouting and cursing, and snatched the microphone out of her hands, which was insane. He yelled in her face like an abusive man.

I had used Blackbook Social Club for a couple of my events and will be my go-to for all my future…read moreevents! DJ Tessa had done a private party I was hosting and she was awesome. Very professional and friendly. I had emailed over a list of music to play throughout the night as a guideline and she stuck to it but also had remixed versions of some of my favorites which made it more fun. Throughout the night she remained professional (in the past I'd witness DJs at events act like fools near the end of the night. not good.) and pleasant to my guests. All my guests commented on how fab the music was, it definitely added to my event. I also had Nguyen along with Tessa deejay a corporate holiday event. Again, arrived on time and remained professional throughout the night. They were able to read the crowd (ages ranged from 30-60 yrs of age!) and kept the dance floor going - everyone happy and having fun. Tessa was also a great emcee when needed - she spoke clearly and projected! From set up to breakdown - they were fantastic! I highly recommend Blackbook Social Club for all your party/event needs!!

It's been the backdrop for countless movie and music video scenes over the years, and you can absolutely tell why. The rustic, no-frills Western atmosphere is pure magic. The intimate setup puts you right up close to the live band, and they play five nights a week (Wednesday through Sunday). No other spot in California comes close to that kind of consistent, high-quality country music. The dance floor stays packed with a perfect mix of line dancing, two-stepping, and partner cha-cha all night long. When the band takes a break, the jukebox has all your favorites ready to go. Special shout-out to bartender Ashley -- she's an absolute rock star! She serves nearly the entire bar like a pro, never misses a beat, and does it all with a smile and great energy. One of the best bartenders I've ever seen. The regulars are genuinely super nice and welcoming. There's a fun subculture of two-steppers here who happily dance with newcomers, so you absolutely don't need a partner to come have a great time. Birthday parties happen almost every weekend, making it the perfect spot for large groups to celebrate. If you're looking for an authentic country night out with great music, dancing, and friendly people, this is it. Don't miss The Cowboy Palace -- it's a true California treasure!
