    Fly fishing

My husband went on a 4 hour trip with Seth to the lower lot and enjoyed it a ton. Seth was very open to sharing his fly fishing wisdom and seemed to really want my husband to have a great time fishing.

One of several healthy rainbows landed during my guided trip.

First time in Estes Park. Wanted to fly fish local waters and decided to hire a guide from Kirk's to get a lay of the land. So glad I did! Great service the minute I walked in the door. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Booked a 4 hour trip for the following morning. Met my guide (Ken?) at the shop and after some formalities, we decided to fish the canyon. Love fishing pocket water and I wasn't disappointed. Landed several beautiful rainbow and brown trout. Just a great day all around and Kirk's made it happen. Highly recommend Kirk's if you're looking for quality guides and a fully stocked fly shop!!

    Beautiful spot on the river!

As two senior women who have always loved fishing, we were a little unsure of what our experience would be taking a fly fishing lesson. Ben at Kirks Fly Fishing could not have done a better job. He is such a genuinely nice young man. We learned so much about fly fishing in a very hands on way, i.e., tying knots and viewing flys and the bugs and larva they imitate. We were taken to an amazingly beautiful place on the river. Ben was very patient, kind and attentive. I caught a large Rainbow Trout and Liz caught two small and one large Rainbow. We were ecstatic! We plan to come back next year for another fly fishing lesson with Ben. Thanks Ben! Kathy (&Liz)

We are from San Diego, so fly fishing is totally foreign to us. When we walked into Kirk's we received a warm and friendly welcome, and were offered assistance in figuring our what we would need. Ultimately, my husband rented a pole and Ben was kind enough to head out back with us and do a little demo! We really appreciated his helpful insight and patience.

Took my eldest son on his first fly fishing adventure with Stephen as our guide. My son caught his first three fish in the first hour. Broke Stephens fly rod on a beast later in the day but that's another story. Thanks for an awesome father/son adventure.

My 15yr old son and I had a blast with Greg Cachola on the river today!!! Incredible guide. He helped my son catch a ton on his first time and helped me learn a ton of new stuff as well. Will definitely request Greg next time and recommend this shop to all my friends.

I have never been fly fishing before and have always wanted to, so we chose Kirks due to the reviews and the fact that the is never such thing as a bad day in Estes Park. The shop is great and if needed, you can buy a fishing license. The gear is superb and they help you at every step in getting ready. Our guide Mark was excellent. We had a group of 3, with 2 of us being first timers. Everyone caught fish!! Mark was a great teacher with the best attitude. After he got everyone set up and gave basic instruction, he spent a few minutes with each person making sure they were able to cast and gave a few pointers. After that, he spent more time with each of us individually giving more detailed lessons. We all had a blast and now can't wait for our next trip. There is not one complaint I have about the experience. It was worth more than the price.

Matt was fantastic! Coached a newbie and a not newbie to success! Was patient and removed my line from the bushes when I became entangled. Was fun! We each caught several fish, cutthroat, browns, brook, next time going for the rainbow! Matt knew exactly where to go and where to cast. Totally worth the money!

    Cute little Brown!

We ended up exiting the Rocky Mountain National Park at the Fall River Station when we saw this and decided to stop in at the end of the day. We initially went to the Visitor Center before walking over here. After scouring most of the items here, I did take home a few little things to remember my time in the RMNP. The lady who rung us up was friendly and even offered me a free small paper bag for my magnets. Other places were charging for them. After researching tour companies through Yelp and other review websites I settled on Rocky Mountain Rush because of their great reviews on Trip Advisor. Though we had to contend with a rainy day, RMR did a great job of showing us some of the highlights of the park. The park itself is absolutely breathtaking (separate review) and a need-to-see experience. The RMR vehicle (pretty much a really big Hummer) is spacious and very comfortable. Since it has the capacity to become an open air vehicle, it can get a little chilly inside. Comfy fleece blankets are provided. Our guide was fantastic - he seemed to know a lot about the park's history and was truly funny. Just a couple of things... not easy to make a reservation online. I sent three requests and eventually just had to call. It is virtually impossible for me to use a phone on my work days so I would have found online more convenient. A longer tour, even by just an hour or so would be great. The park is huge so don't get me wrong... I get why you can't see everything in a few hours. Besides the basic hummer tour, they also do downhill biking adventures and wine and cheese sunset tours. Their prices are on the moderate side ($50 pp). Overall, a good service!

Tours are relatively reasonably priced (though not cheap) for the entertainment and educational bits and bobs about the places you're taken to, but for the winter tours where your exposure to several areas of the park is limited, I do think they could knock off a few bucks. We had a bit of a mishap during my tour, where my phone was dropped and my battery tumbled off a bridge and down the side of the mountain. Our guide saved the day by literally sliding down the mountain to retrieve my battered - but still functional! - phone innards. Nevermind the details about how that happened (though I wonder if it'll make it into our guide's stories from here on out), but not having that battery would have really put a kink in the remainder of FH and I's trip to Colorado, so I was thankful, if a bit nervous, that he rescued it. We would love to come back in the summertime and take one of the off-road tours, and will definitely look up this company again if we find ourselves in Estes in warmer months.
