Decided to give this place a try for takeout despite the low reviews. Unfortunately I agree this place is about 2.5 stars. I tried a handful of things, nothing was something I could get again. The egg rolls definitely seem like frozen egg rolls from Sams club. The fried rice is just plain rice without any vegetables etc. Vegetables in the entrees don't seem to be fresh at all. Chicken very low quality. Wonton soup also not worth getting, dumplings probably not made in house seem like very poor quality. The portions and prices are good and the staff were friendly, but the food is just really lousy. I couldn't recommend this place for decent Chinese. read more

Ok first let me say I went with the delivery. I did not actually go in the store. I know this place has changed names and owners many times in my life. I have been eating Chinese food out of this shop since my teens. My review has nothing to do with the past and only the present. Experience was on 23rd of August 2023 Actual rating is 3.75 stars. Used to live in the red bank area and would do pick up from here every month or so. We loved it. We now live a bit farther out and decided to stop by and order takeout on the way home. I am extremely disappointed with all the food items that were ordered, not sure what's happened since we've been away. Just moved to the area and found our new regular Chinese take out. We got the chicken and broccoli, the sesame chicken, and the vegetable lo mane. Grand China is a nice little place with good food and friendly service. I've been visiting since before they moved to their current Dayton location and will continue to do so whenever I get the chance. Lunch specials are filling and cheap (only $5) but I tend to order the dinner portions, which are enough to last two meals for me. My usuals are the Sesame Chicken, Beef & Broccoli, and Singapore Mei Fun, all of which have never disappointed. Staff is always friendly and helpful and usually find the opportunity to catch-up with regulars, which to me, is always a good sign for an establishment. read more

Hadn't been there in awhile and I was in the neighborhood and decided to give it another try. I ordered Hunan Beef, General Tso Chicken, Beef Low Mein and some egg drop soup. The Hunan Beef was really good. Lots of veggies - a slightly sweet and spicy flavor to the sauce. The friend rice was ok - at least it had some chunks of egg in it and didn't have the fillers of peas and carrots. I had a couple of bites of the General Tso when it was hot and it was very tasty. I saved it for lunch the next day, but it didn't taste the same. Had a strange aftertaste. Eat it right away - don't save it. The low mein was pretty bland. Not much flavor, hardly any veggies and the noodles were overcooked. Wouldn't get those again. I will say the egg drop soup was very good. It didn't have a ton of cornstarch in it. I could taste the egg and it was seasoned well and tasted brothy too. Could go for a big bowl of that right now on this cold day. I ordered it to go and the food was still nice and hot when I got home. A good choice for takeout Chinese. I do wish they would have a bit more depth of flavor in the dishes though. read more

I ate at this location years ago and remembered it as a clean, quaint lil place with nicely set tables and decor. I was very surprised when I walked in and found a half empty and dirty dive with a few mismatched tables and cracked discolored floors. The men's room was disgusting and the hand towels were stored with the toilet paper in a broken dispenser hanging from the wall. The urinal was busted and covered with black plastic, YUCH! I ordered to eat inside and was served a canned coke, no glass or ice. The meal came in wax paper pouches and Styrofoam containers. The napkins, utensils and condiments were served buffet style out of cardboard boxes on a stray table near the order counter. If the food had been phenomenal it may have been worth it. I was skeptical to try this place out since it has bad reviews and health code violation warning. But grand China won me over with great food and friendly smiles each time. I went here after a long day of work because it was close to home. I read the bad reviews and decided to try it myself. I ordered the dragon and pheonix combo with fried rice and 8 pieces of fried scallop. To my wonderful surprises they both tasted amazing. The shrimps are big and tasty. The vegetables taste fresh and the orange chicken is sweet and tangy. Delicious!! Ask for extra brownsauce!! I drive from Middle Valley and I could go to a few other Chinese restaurants closer but I would be paying more for food that's not as good so it's worth it. BEWARE. This place used to be the infamous China Lee that got shut down for health code violations. Well, after they tried a new name to shake off their stomach-turning legacy, I've given it two tries. The verdict: They pour what must be a tablespoon of sugar into what they call Mongolian Beef. It is, literally, beef, soy sauce, and sugar. The General Tso's chicken is 90% fried breading. The rice on both occasions tasted like they had rewarmed old rice from the previous day. This restaurant is a hole in the wall restaurant in every way...but it serves up decent chinese food at great prices. This isn't my favorite chinese restaurant by any means...but it is very close to where I live and is great for take out when you don't want to trek too far from home. They have a fairly large menu, but its repetitive (example: under poultry you can order Hunan Chicken served with white rice for $7..95. In another section of the menu under "All day special combo platter" you can order Hunan Chicken with fried rice and an egg roll for $6.95. In yet another section of the menu "Chefs Special" you can order Hunan Chicken with white rice for $8.99... so as you can see you need to pay special attention to the menu and obviously go for the cheaper one ...as they are all pretty much the same sized portions) The soup is hot, tasty...and inexpensive. You can get a pint of egg drop soup for $1.00 (16 oz) and a quart (32 oz) for $2.00. They also do not have any pork items on the menu...which I do find a little odd for a chinese place...and could be a pro or a con depending on who you are. In addition to the chinese menu...they do offer up a few Thai dishes (limited to : Massaman Curry, Penang Curry, Yellow Curry and Red Curry.) The massaman curry was tasty and nicely spiced...which is the only one I've tried from there. This is decent food .....and great pricing...not something to go out of your way for but if you are in the area...don't overlook the little lonely restaurant in the middle of an otherwise closed supermarket area. read more

So, I finally decided to give this place a chance after several months of wondering if it was going to be an improvement over the previous Chinese restaurant which used to occupy this space. I love Chinese food and hoped that there might finally be a decent one close to where I live. Grand China isn't much of an improvement at all. The restaurant itself is much cleaner looking than the previous restaurant. The food wasn't very good though. I ordered General Tso's chicken which was decent, but the fried rice had a really gross taste to it. I couldn't eat it. It seemed covered in oil or something. I don't even know how to describe it because I can't remember ever eating bad rice before from any restaurant. Rice usually isn't a memorable food item. The hot and sour soup was ok, but the egg roll was mushy and didn't have a good taste to it. I don't know what has happened to most of the local Chinese restaurants. Ten or fifteen years ago they were all pretty solid places to eat. Now it seems like everything is over-breaded and greasy and covered in sauces that taste like they mainly consist of corn syrup.
