If you're looking for an honest mechanic, look no more. I came into the shop today thinking that I needed to get my timing belt changed after I purchased a used Acura RDX. I was certain that I needed it because The Car fax showed that it had never been changed. Both Brandon and the master mechanic concluded that it did not need to be changed. They confirmed that it had recently been changed. Most shops would've told me that it needed to be changed and taken my arm and leg for the job. I will come here for every repair going forward. The dealership where i bought my car in North Austin said it would take them 3-4 days to have the car done. I opted to do my research as to where to take my car to. I was recommended grand imports by my friend. Not only was the job a lot more affordable than the dealer quote, but the service stated were finished in less than a day. Had a really good experience getting the control arm fixed on my Honda Accord. Everyone was friendly. They explained what was going on without trying to sell me a million extra repairs. Don't let the "good" reviews fool you. The reviews are probably from people who don't know any better and honestly feel like they are being taken care of. We are new to the area and our A/C went out, so we had to find an auto mechanic. Looking at some group forums, I saw that people recommend Grand Imports, especially if you have a Honda. I brought my Honda Odyssey to this place, and I was told my condenser was the issue because it was leaking. I got the quote and literally asked myself, why is this so much!? I called my trusted mechanic from the area we moved from, and he literally quoted me half the price. I understand this area might have slightly higher prices, but that price was way too high. So this is what I did... I called all the high-rating auto shops around the area, and I didn't get a quote over $700 from any of them. Even the HONDA DEALERSHIP of Round Rock quoted me $697 total, labor and everything! So I called these people back, and they said they would work out the numbers. They lowered the price a bit; I paid $761.29 . If I didn't get it fixed with them, then I would have to pay $165. I stupidly decided to go through with the repair, and next thing you know, I now have a leak in my A/C discharge hose. They quoted me an extra $400. In the end, I picked up my car because these people are not trustworthy. Price gouging and taking advantage of people. My bumper wasn't even put on right. Who knows if it was my condenser that was actually leaking or if it was just the hose... either way, don't trust this place. Take your car somewhere else. read more

I stopped in again and #2 said they could install so I made an appointment for the following week. Took the car in and was told by #2 they wouldn't work on it. I explained he said they could and #1 did as well. He said they wouldn't do it. On my way out, even though 3 other customers were there, shouted out "A$$HOLE" as I left. I have been using this shop for over 12 years and I am totally satisfied with the quality of their work and their friendly staff. They rebuilt an engine for me in 2022 and I have been completely satisfied. What I really like about them is their honestly--when another repair shop pointed out all the things I needed done to my car, (they fixed a damaged tire with a nail in it), I took it to Grand Imports, and was informed one of the most expensive repair items the other shop told me was needed was, in fact, NOT needed. Now I 100% understand why my neighbors all strongly recommended this place. Very straightforward and honest about work that needs to be done vs. work that can wait. Spent a fair bit of time walking me through exactly what the issues are and provided written documentation of what labor & parts would be for each item (breaking out 16 different parts into individual line items including a $1 gasket plug). Pricing was very reasonable compared to similar work I've had done by less experienced mechanics. Lastly they have great equipment on site to update software for engine computers. Used to go here back in the early 2000's but stupidly bought German cars as a young professional so stopped going there. . Fast forward to now, I have an Odyssey . Anyways I called them up to fix my Odyssey door after some other places said they couldn't find the parts for some reason . Ian the owner who has always been honest and helpful, discovered I only needed a new motor for the door which saved me 800 bucks so about 40% less than the other place . I have been taking our cars here for almost a decade. I would not even think of taking them anywhere else. Sadly nowadays it is a rarity to find an auto shop that is simply honest, trustworthy, and reliable. Grand Imports is all of these things, and the staff are genuinely nice people on top of it. After years of dealing with them, I consider Misty and Liz friends of mine. This place has had opportunities to screw me over in the past, and has never taken advantage of me. For example, they recently quoted me a price to repair a power-steering component, and I agreed to have the work done at that price. When I went to pick up the car, I was told that they were able to find the part at a lower price than I had been quoted, and adjusted my bill accordingly. They easily could've pocketed the difference and I would've been none the wiser. In the past, I have also compared prices at other shops, and Grand Imports is always the same or lower. I have also had instances where the Honda dealership has told me that our cars needed expensive maintenance or repairs, then had Grand Imports tell me the work was not really needed, and the dealership was just trying to upsell me. If you have a Honda or Toyota, don't take it anywhere else. read more

I had high hopes for Grand Imports based on the glamorous Yelp reviews and neighbors who recommended them on Nextdoor. I took our Honda Accord to them after finding a power steering leak. I typically perform all minor maintenance on our vehicles but didn't have time to triage and perform this repair. Monday - called Grand Imports when they opened and asked them if I could drop off the car. The service department was cool with me doing so, so I dropped it off and awaited their call. They contacted me in the afternoon and told me there were two issues: 1. High pressure power steering hose was leaking. Quote over the phone was ~$360 for the hose, o-ring and labor. 2. I was told the power steering pump was still working but on the way out. I approved the replacement of the pump as I didn't want it to fail in the near future. After going through everything, I was told the "all in total" was $680, which included parts and labor. I gave my approval to move forward. They had to order the parts from a Fort Worth warehouse and said the parts would be there Tuesday. Tuesday - icy weather hits the Austin area, which prevents the parts from being delivered from Fort Worth. Can't blame the shop for this as Mother Nature was at her worst, so we aimed for the parts and repairs to be completed Wednesday. Wednesday - parts didn't make it to Austin this day either. Not really sure what happened, but was told the delivery service still wasn't coming to Austin due to the weather and bad road conditions. Shop called me to say it would be Thursday for the repairs to be completed. Thursday morning - shop calls me saying they received the parts from a local shop instead. Cool! They promised me the car would be ready to go Thursday afternoon. Thursday afternoon - shop calls me and says my car is ready to go. Perfect! I pack up my things at work and am getting ready to head to the shop when they call me and tell me my car isn't actually ready. Some of the parts had been installed, but the service tech had already left for the day and they weren't sure if the power steering pump had been replaced. Shop informed me they would call me Friday morning once they spoke with the tech. Friday - shop calls me and tells me the car will be ready to go that afternoon. I get another call that afternoon confirming the car is ready to be picked up. Although it had been a few days delayed, I am happy to get the car back as I had to extend the rental car duration by a few extra days which cost me $150 extra on top of the original two-day rental contract. I walk into the shop Friday afternoon and am presented with a $1,200 bill! Yes, you read that right, nearly double what I was quoted over the phone on Monday! I asked about the oversight, and they showed me the parts and labor details after the repairs had already been completed. The "all in total" they provided to me over the phone was ONLY for the second set of parts and labor for the steering pump, not for the high pressure power steering hose and labor associated with that repair. I complained about the miscommunication and bad information provided to me. They said it is what it is and acted like I misunderstood what was said on the phone. "All in total" seems pretty straightforward to me... The shop ended up taking $150 off the total, which helped, but the repair invoice was still nearly double what I was initially quoted. I received a call later Friday night from the employee who had originally quoted me the $680 "All in total." She apologized, which was nice, but the damage was already done. I suggested she not use the term "all in total" if it wasn't really "all in." Not sure if they will take action to prevent this from happening to other customers. I don't plan to use them again based upon my experience with the shop and the issues mentioned above. The repairs seemed to have fixed the leak, from what I can see. Hopefully this helps other potential customers make an informed decision on whether or not to use this shop for their needs. read more

Recently bought am Acura MDX that I knew was due for a timing belt change. Was familiar with Grand Imports from seeing them on side of highway so I sent an email to them, a local Acura dealer and a local Honda dealer. Misty was the only one of the 3 to reply with a detailed estimate AND mentioned a $50 coupon that she would apply. The dealerships replied with horribly composed emails and were several hundred dollars more expensive for less work promised (as best as I could tell from their "estimates"). 2 months later finally got around to getting it done. Dropped off in AM, spoke to a gentleman (did not catch name unfortunately) who was extremely polite, I asked him about the possible need for additional work (valve adjustment), he explained when they usually see that come up and gave opinion he would not suggest worrying about it at this point. I was ready to spend a couple hundred more and appreciated his honesty. Got a call in the afternoon that car was ready. Misty apologized and mentioned they had to replace some trim fasteners (they dry out and break easily in all cars) and warned me that was added to bill. Came in to pay and the bill was exactly as I was quoted 2 months earlier, minus the $50 discount she mentioned (plus a small amount for the fasteners). Had to get my visor replaced on my Toyota Camry because it kept lowering and hitting me in the head. It did take a week for the new visor to come in, which seemed a little longer than normal to wait for a part like that but once it did, they took care of the replacement within 30 min and for a fair price. I would definitely recommend them again but would make sure the repair isn't something that needs to happen immediate. read more

I've been having Grand Imports work on my vehicles since 2001. Years ago they only worked on Honda cars so I bought another Honda since I loved the work they did on my Acura Integra. My Honda CRV has been trouble free for years thanks to them. They have done all the major work and always have done a clean thorough job. They now service Toyota too which means you can bring in your Lexus or Scion since they all are Toyota underneath. They let you know what you need and don't need. The work is done right and they place is clean and friendly. I also like the fact that it is gated overnight unlike other shops where they leave your car out in the open. The WiFi helps for business people, plenty of magazines for the readers. Couches are too comfortable. Clean bathroom and water fountain make the place an excellent location in my opinion. I heard about Grand Imports from some people and I've seen it off of I-35 many times. When you drive by, they advertise that they specialize on Hondas, Acuras, and Toyotas, so when my own Honda bit the dust I took my car to them. It was a simple problem of just a battery, and a faulty Oxygen sensor. They quickly diagnosed my problem, called me to ask for my authorization for each issue. What I liked most was their service manager was a woman (no offense men, but it was a nice change!). It was nice to speak and deal with Misty throughout my experience there because she seemed so genuine and upfront which I appreciated. She explained the consequences of not changing the oxygen sensor when I balked at the price, and she told me that it wouldn't be harmful if I didn't change it immediately and when I decided to, that she would reimburse me the 49.00 diagnostic charge. She suggested that I save up for it and replace it when I was ready. There was no pressure to repair my car. They suggested that I get my oil change because I was overdue. I was pleased to hear that their prices were comparable to Jiffy Lube (28.00) and I had more confidence that competent people were working on my car. Originally I wanted to take my car in to change the transmission fluid as I knew that I was long overdue for it, and when I spoke to her about it, she quoted me a far more reasonable price than I expected (49.00 or something similar). Originally when I had gotten quotes from others, I was anticipating somewhere from 75.00-100.00 so I was happy to hear that their prices were competitive. The thing that I appreciated most however is that they have a part-time driver who not only can drop you off at home, but pick you back up again to go and pick up your car. There was no extra charge for that either. They finished my car the same day that I took it in, and I received multiple phone calls asking my permission before they did anything. I didn't plan on getting my oil changed, but I went ahead and did it because it was convenient since they had my car anyway. There was no b.s. about air filters, or other additional services that Jiffy Lube tries to get you to do. I really had a great experience with them and they certainly earned my loyalty. Oh the last thing I wanted to add was that originally after I jumped my car, I heard a whirring sound when I accelerated. I told that to Misty, and she called and said that the mechanic drove it and didn't hear the sound and that they thought it was battery related. She also said that if I picked it up and heard it again, to bring it back so they could look at the car again. Even after I picked up my car she said that if at any time it started again, to bring it over. It was refreshing to actually be believed because my experience with mechanics is that if they can't hear it, it either didn't happen, or they don't care. That was not the attitude here at all. They claimed the cause of the loud noise was because the hand break equipment needed to be replaced. Their quote was preposterous since I'd only used the hand break maybe a total of five times since the purchase of the car. I took the car to Grand Imports and they fixed it the same day. They stated that the noise came from the rotors never being resurfaced or replaced and off the market brake (cheap) pads being placed on my car.
