TLDR; Amazing, just go. Make an appointment so you don't screw anybody, but great customer service, quality work, and legit prices. After a "check-up" at my car dealership, the dealership listed a number of "immediate concerns" that needed to be address and would have cost a pretty penny (basically, oil change, tire rotation, wheel alignment & balancing). Hesitant to just sign on, I took my car to Dave's to confirm that these concerns were indeed immediate and would indeed cost the amount that the dealership estimated. Gave them a call to give the list of "needed services" based on my car dealership, and they were great about fitting me in quickly. Also, am going on a hefty road trip soon, so they added a free trip check. After the trip check and basic inspection, they did identify that there was a slight alignment issue. The other things didn't need to be address, but I decided to just go for it because of the trip, low cost, and it'd honestly have to be done at some point anyway. What I really appreciate was the fact that they communicated these things with me, showed me numbers that caused the "issue", gave me a reasonable price and let me make the decision for myself. They correctly, diagnosed some problems with my Toyota van and fixed them, except for one important item, and that was the oil pressure switch, which was the main reason I brought it in to begin with. So that's kind of odd. It's obvious that the mechanics don't drive the car after they've repaired it because that light was shining in my face the whole way back home and I don't see how they could've missed it. They also tried to sell me a bunch of other repairs and serviced, which were probably not needed. (I'm on a very limited budget). I appreciated the info and simply turned down those other tasks which I could either do myself or postpone for another time. I think the lesson learned is if you have an old car and you're on a limited budget (and aren't we all) watch out for suggested repairs which are simply based on the estimated age of the item or a maintenance schedule, and not an actual malfunction. I've attached the email chain in four pictures. As you can see in there, I explicitly told the technician that the car was brought in for oil pressure problems, and the oil pressure light was coming on. Also, I should add that since I received the car back the engine is running smoothly, but not a single drop of oil has dripped off the engine so I'm pretty sure there's no oil leak. In any case, a small leak would not prevent me from driving the car however, the oil light being on all the time would prevent me from driving it, and I don't think the car should've been handed back to me in that condition. read more

My old F150 (2002) needs a lot of TLC. When I took it in last time for a main seal replacement on th engine, the day after I got it home, there was another problem. When I got it back up to the shop, they figured out what the problem was and fixed it on the spot for free. They also took the time to explain exactly how the repair changed my engine and what to expect. I really appreciated that they took the time with me personally. I had been putting off auto repairs due to finances, so I already had a good idea about what needed to be replaced on my car and an expectation of what the ballpark price "should" be. Then the car found out I finally had some money saved and decided to go belly up. I decided I might as well get the other stuff fixed while I'm at it. I also read the bad reviews and the complaints seemed kinda stupid, petty, or from people who have no idea what it takes to repair/replace an auto part- but that's just my interpretation of the bad reviews- you can decide for yourself. But the good reviews were spot on! Cody and everyone were so nice to me, explained everything, gave me options and frequent updates, and most importantly no one talk down to me or laughed at me when I told them how old and neglected my car was, and no one tried to scare me into getting unnecessary repairs (you cannot believe how many times I've been talked down to or have been told the ol' "this needs fixin' ASAP or you're gonna die!" and it winds up to be something minor or didn't even need fixing- it's exhausting!). It's pretty hard to get five stars out of me, but this establishment deserves it. I've been working on cars on and off for 40 years and I usually do my own brake work. However, now that I'm older I have more discretionary income so I am willing to let someone else do the labor. Nonetheless, I'm VERY particular about the parts being used. This business uses some of the best made parts. I especially wanted Akebono brake pads used all around and premium rotors, not Chinese ones. Most brake shops do not use these brake pads which are definitely more expensive but well worth it. They also flushed the brake system using high-quality dot 4 fluid. All around new rotors, pads, labor and brake flush came to almost $1500 on our Accord. If you're a first time customer they'll give you 20% off up to $100. After doing a walk around and checking on the work followed by a test drive, I can say I'm very happy with their work. read more

I was hoping I'd never see these guys again... not because they suck, they're actually great, but if I have to go see them it means my car is unwell. Sadly, one day my... I was going to say 15-year old, but wow, it's actually more than 17 years old! car started smelling like it was burning... and a little smoke started coming out from under the hood. Now, I'm no car guy, but that seemed like a clue that something might be wrong, so I took it in. I got the bad news by email... pictures of all the leaks... leaks from valve cover gaskets, oil pan, oil drain plug, power steering pump, power steering hose, etc. I was getting ready to be all indignant about the power steering items, since they'd just been replaced a year and a half ago, but when I called and talked to Brad he said they were still under warranty and they'd already started replacing them. The recommendations for the leaks were just to keep an eye on them, since the bill would be exorbitant... when I mentioned I was thinking of selling the car soon he even looked up the price of the car for me online. Went to Dave's Ultimate Automotive to get my 2013 Touareg TDI aligned (4 wheel alignment). Called as I was headed back from Houston. Made an appointment for the next day @ 9:00 AM. Arrived at 9:00 AM. Dave took my keys and I decided to hang out and wait. VW Touaregs require all 4 wheels to be aligned so I figured 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours. Dave's Ultimate Automotive had it done in 1 hour and 11 minutes (timing stopped when my keys were handed back to me). Price was $129.99 plus tax. The team at Dave's is really, really great. I got a trumped up inspection from Toyota, and Robert went above and beyond to go through and identify what was actually necessary. He even took the time to point out parts of Toyota's report that he wouldn't change yet, and gave me a suggestion of when to replace those parts in the future. No upselling here, folks. On top of that, their prices almost beat every auto mechanic in the area - and the few (we're talking...$20 total on a $1000 bill) places they were higher feels entirely worth it for the service Robert put in. On top of that, he happily replaced my car battery for me even though it was a week after I'd gotten my car serviced, and a few weeks after that, unblinkingly let my mom (not even me!) sweet talk him into replacing my wiper blades. Everyone at Dave's is so great; I try to never go anywhere else! I first visited Dave's on a recommendation from a friend; I am so glad for that friend and wish to now recommend them to you. I was having air conditioning problems; in Texas in the summer, that's unbearable. I first took my car to the dealer, and their response was, "We can't reproduce it. We changed the filter, though; that'll probably fix it." WRONG! So when it, of course, happened again I took it to Dave's. The experience was like night and day as compared to the dealer. At Dave's, they took the time to listen to my explanation of the problem, asked questions to get more details, and then gave me full details of how they would like to try finding and fixing the problem. They said they need to stress the A/C to the point of overload to see where it goes wrong, could they keep it overnight and have my permission to do this. They ASKED me, rather than TOLD me--WHAT?! Point 1 for Dave's. Toward the end of the day, they called me back, triumphantly explaining they had reproduced the issue. They had some ideas, but would need to test it some more to be sure they knew what was causing it, so they'd get back to me again. I felt so informed--they were really keeping me involved in this whole thing! After confirming the issue, they had to order a part, but they wanted me to have my car until they could get it in, so I brought it back when the part was in, and they fixed it. I have never had issues since! They fully explained to me what the problem was, how they fixed it, and what signs to look for in the future that would tell me something had gone wrong again. I had never felt so included or so informed through a repair! I was sold and vowed never to take my car anywhere again. Since then, I've taken my vehicle to Dave's for all kinds of different things, even regular maintenance. Whereas the dealer would give me a laundry list of "must-do" add-ons each time, the folks at Dave's would provide a list of recommendations, with details about severity, cost/time to fix, and prioritize them for me, so that I could be the one making the informed decision about when and how to follow up on those additional items. They provide personal attention that makes each customer feel important, they are always communicative, and they even have shuttle service when I do not have a ride and have to leave my car. These guys are fantastic. After taking my car to a dealership who took 8 days and didn't even look at the car, I took it away and scheduled an appointment right at Dave's. Front office folks were super nice and took time to answer any questions I had, dropped the car off at 8 and it was fixed by 11am. Meanwhile the dealership had misdiagnosed it and were about to charge me for a pricey repair. Dave's also let me know of a few other things going on with the car as well and if they were critical or not and when I would be needing to look into fixing them. Far cry from the typical "THIS NEEDS TO GET FIXED NOW OR YOUR CAR WILL TURN INTO A TRANSFORMER AND DESTROY THE UNIVERSE" that other places have done if I didn't so much as replace a wiper. I discovered this mechanic shop by taking my car in to get a brake inspection after taking it to 3 other places. 2 of the places told me I needed the rear and front brakes serviced immediately because neither the front nor back had padding. The other place told me I needed my rear serviced immediately and the front brakes could go longer because there was still padding, so I just needed to go to 1 more place before I could determine what place was telling me the truth. See, mechanic shops try to get over on women, so it was necessary for me to get information from several sources before I could make an informed decision. At Dave's Automotive, they verified that I still had padding on the front brakes and they recommended that I get the rear brakes serviced and to come back in a few months to get the front brakes replaced. I knew I could trust them with my car because they were honest with me. They didn't know I had already gone to 3 shops prior to coming to them. (Lol) The price they quoted me at was slightly higher than the other shop that gave me the same information, but I felt it was worth it since I was already there. I've taken my car back since then to get the front pads replaced. Honesty is important to me, so I'm a returning customer. It's difficult when you're a woman trying to get your car fixed because the mechanics, which are predominantly men, feel we don't know anything about cars. No, not this woman over here! I check with other mechanics prior to getting a job performed, so I won't get suckered into anything. read more

I'm sitting here at DUA's on Howard Lane with a smile on my face and it occurred to me, "how is it possible that I'm sitting at an auto repair facility in a good mood"? How? Revisiting my first line, because "I'm sitting here at DUA's on Howard Lane..." I found Dave's on Yelp in the most desperate of situations. I'd purchased a dealer "certified used" (laughable, thank you Nyle Maxwell) Jeep with a distinct knocking noise that no one (including Nyle Maxwell) could properly identify and diagnose. I'd been to Midas (thinking shocks and $1200 later on a struts and brake job found out that was not the problem), Nyle Maxwell TWICE who tried to tell me it only needed bushings lubed and finally to Dave's where Brandon and his crew not only identified the problem, but informed me that my car appeared to have been in an accident resulting in a bent subframe and a bound up control arm knocking against the axle, as a result. Well! Nyle had never reported the accident and neither had CarFax when we purchased but sure enough Brandon pulled an updated CarFax to confirm his suspicions and lo and behold, a year prior to our purchase, the car had had that same area repaired. Nyle had nothing to say but "whoops" and as for CarFax well they're not worth the paper printed on. Dave's came through for me when all of these other brand namers in the biz failed and failed BIG! In the end, Brandon provided me a full reporting with pictures on the problem, identifying the underlying cause (needing to replace the subframe, otherwise, replacing only the control arm would have meant the problem would have resurfaced - and did Nyle Maxwell mention that? No.) AND Dave's did it all at hundreds cheaper than Nyle's quote to only replace the control arms. I've lived with this mind numbing knocking noise for 8 months before finding Dave's and now? Nice, quiet, and sturdy drive. Further, I had to revisit Midas because my brakes (under warranty) were still squealing despite two front pad installs and two rotor refinishes followed by new brakes and new rotors before they finally inform me, after the fact, "oh wait, the squealing is from your back brake drum that's warped. We can fix it along with new shoes for $440". I left Midas, took their quote and drove straight to Dave's. They took my car in on the spot and $160 later, the shoes are fine, the drum has been turned (not warped after all), and the noise is kaput. Dave's, when I visited you the first time, you had earned a customer. When I had to visit you the second time, you had earned a customer FOR LIFE! And all my friends and family will all receive my highest recommendation. For the general public, this is for you. Don't waste your time OR your money anywhere else. Had I gone to Dave's from the beginning, I would have saved so much in both. What's more, our next used car purchase (coming soon) will be done ONLY AFTER Dave's has had a chance to give me the greenlight. Dealer or not (CarFax or NOT!), the ONLY people I trust in car repairs/inspection/condition are at Dave's. PERIOD! Dave's also provided a courtesy ride home and in both visits the guys at the desk would all weigh in on my issues and provide advice. As a woman in a car repair situation, these are the people I trust to be on my side and truly want the best for my situation. Go! See for yourself!
