You're not going to be overnighting here - New York has a law that limits nighttime parking to three hours. Inside, lots of information about local attractions and accommodations. Anyhow, this rest area is very similar to - and just as good as - the High Peaks Welcome Center some miles south on I-87. It's always clean, and the tourist information is plentiful. You're a bit past ideal Adirondacks viewing, but otherwise this is a very convenient rest area.

Not sure whether they have set dates or go by the weather. -there are only two stalls in the women's bathhouse, so I assume the same is true for the men, and the bathhouse has no heat or A/C. -the showers are coin operated: 25¢/5 minutes. One can pre-pay for multiple 5-minute increments at a time. -Shower water temp was easily adjustable, got nice and hot, and stayed that way for 20 minutes! -There are outlets in the bathhouse, e.g. for a hairdryer.

The campground was completely quiet and directions to our site had been left for us on the bulletin board at the camp office. We easily found our site, used the very clean restrooms, and fell asleep to the hooting of an owl. Next morning, we had a quick conversation with the campground manager who was raking up apples - the area seems to have been an apple orchard in the past. Very friendly. Campground was still fairly quiet, although we talked to a few other campers, and the restrooms were still clean. We didn't stay long, as we had to get on our way again, but our trip will take us back there for the last night, and will be glad to stay there again.

The king room upstairs is better than home. The bed is comfy, the recliner was great, the bathroom was large and spotless. The room comes with its own large balcony right on the bay. We arrived by boat and the owner was great enough to drive us to a local restaurant and then come and pick us up. When we got back to the B&B, Jeanne had made us dessert! Strawberry shortcake. Breakfast the next day was incredible. All home made breads and coffee cake! All the eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, ham and home fries you could eat! We knew then we would be back. Since that first visit, we have been back here 6 other times and make sure to stay longer each time. Our last long visit was for 17 days. It was so wonderful, we never wanted to leave. Going to Heron's Way is just like going home to visit with family. Jeanne is incredible! Her family knows us well and they are all family. Our last visit was to spend our 10 year anniversary there. When we started thinking about where to go to celebrate, the choice was obvious. Heron's Way B&B, just like going home. If you are ever visiting Lake Champlain, Burlington VT or Plattsburgh NY area, you must make this one of your stops.

The proprietor, Jeanne, is very welcoming and accommodating and is also very knowledgeable about local wildlife, the lake, restaurants in the area, biking in the area, etc. Our room was upstairs and it was very clean. It was also very large, with a very comfortable king bed, sofa, several comfortable upholstered chairs, large screen TV, large bathroom with double sinks, view of the lake from the windows, and a private balcony overlooking the lake. I think it also had the complete works of Stephen King in a bookcase, if you are a fan of his. Jeanne likes to cook, and the breakfasts are just over the top. Every morning we were served about 3 selections of fresh fruit plus applesauce that Jeanne makes herself plus oatmeal (I am not usually a big fan of oatmeal, but she cooks hers for hours, and it's REALLY good) plus something she bakes fresh (muffins, coffee bread, etc), along with coffee, tea, juice. Then, she brings out the rest of the breakfast, which could be eggs and sausage, french toast, or frittata, etc. Then we would waddle to our bicycles. Jeanne is flexible about when she serves you breakfast. If you eat a bit later, you'll get to meet the neighbors, who are very pleasant. In addition to the balcony outside our room, there is a deck and screened porch outside, and there is a dock and a small beach on the lake, so you can swim in warm weather. She also has a couple of kayaks that you can use. We kept our bicycles in her garage downstairs. I was sorry to leave. Definitely going back.

I spent the most relaxing week here on Lake Champlain in cottage #1 with my daughters and my dad…read more It's cozy and had two bedrooms but sleeps 8! It has a full kitchen, pots, pans, coffee machine, anything you could need and a there's a boat ramp too! There's AC but it's really not needed, even in the summer as it's so cool here on the islands of Vermont. No tv and very little reception, but it was not missed AT ALL as we spent our days outside reading on the hammock, fishing right from the dock there, boating, playing games and drinking around the campfire. This is a wonderful place to just escape it all and relax! Right outside you'll find Adirondack chairs, a picnic table, a hammock, a grill and 2 fire pits, one complete with a grate which we used for making campfire potatoes and hotdog grilling late night! So fun! The boat ramp is gravel, so a 4x4 is preferred although it is not necessary. The water is shallow at the start so wading and swimming for even little kiddos was easy and safe. The fishing was great.... small mouth bass, yellow perch and pike. The kiddos caught something the second they casted! It's a great place for the more impatient, novice fisherman. The hosts were very sweet and accommodating. They hand delivered worms to us for fishing when the local "worm guy" was out on his boat for the day. They even brought us firewood and let us use their sit in kayaks, which my girls had a blast on! They were super helpful! They were available as needed as they live at the end of the property, but not at all in our way. There's a campground for trailers on the other side of the dock and on our side, 3 houses for rent. We peeked into cabin #2 and fell in love! I would definitely come back and rent it with just my family of four. It's rustic with wooden interiors and was so cozy! Very different aesthetically from the cottage but both serve a purpose for different needs and sized families. That cabin however only has a small fridge but still a full sized kitchen. My dad has been renting here for years and always has a wonderful time. As many times as I've been to Vermont, I have never traveled these parts, and I'm happy finally to see what I've been missing, what he's been boasting about and what I now long for when I think of a getaway! I look forward to many more visits this cottage and would recommend it for anyone looking for a sweet retreat, especially boat owners! There's no additional cleaning fee, trash is collected by owners at the end of the week and the cost is very reasonable. The entire area was absolutely lovely also. There's a general store down in the center of town that has everything you need, including gas, fresh baked goods, and that Green Mountain coffee. It's there you'll find local activities on the bulletin board as well as any periodical you may want to read. There's farms nearby and lots of places for outdoor activities.There's wineries, too. It's quiet and peaceful and the loveliest little island to just relax It's very close to the Canadian Border, easily accessibly from anywhere in New England and the Adirondacks as it's just a short trip over the Plattsburgh ferry, which if coming from the south saves you quite a bit of time! Day trips to Burlington and Stowe were also very easy from this location! A stay here was one of my favorite weeks of the summer and I look forward to it again! Wonderful area and an awesome hideaway!
