It's tricked put to look like a trolley - sort of. Don't try to take pictures out the windows, though: they're grimy. While you endure the ride, you'll get to listen to "Wilbur," the recorded voice of an actor bravely attempting to sound like Vermont. Wilbur takes his cues from GPS, but the timing is off - it's hard to match what you see with what Wilbur is yawling about. The narrative has no central strand to it: just a bunch of names of people who built or lived in this house or that, with very little sense of how the town began or became what it is. Next time you go to Burlington, check out some of the really cool other places to go and things to do.

If you are someone that loves history Fort Ticonderoga has a really impressive collection of…read moremilitary memorabilia and well preserved buildings. The entrance fee is $30 per person but includes access to all of the buildings and Mount Defiance (short drive). If you're not too into the military aspect you can just walk around and enjoy the beautiful views and immaculate grounds. The garden is stunning and they even have a small working farm with seeds and veggies for sale.

Walking throughout the fort there were games for the kids to play, they tried writing with a qu'il, and were given small wool scraps to take home. We explored the gardens and the kids ran and got all of their energy out in those wide open spaces! There were beautiful apple trees and more buildings to explore. We didn't sign up to do the boat ride but that is available and is a great way to extend your stay at the fort! The staff was all incredibly friendly understanding of children's needs. We couldn't ask for more with a family day out at a historical site! It was such a joy to enjoy! The gift shop had so many gems it could be very easy to end up with super cool toys Tshirts and yummy treats. Drive out slow and be ready to pull over to read the informative stones on the way out. Worth it!! Don't forget to check out mount defiance after visiting (otherwise it's $10 a car to check out) and on your way there there is a park with a beautiful waterfall to look at.

This is The Frost Place, the former summer home of American poet Robert Frost turned museum and…read morehistorical landmark. The property is not very big, but nonetheless it is quaint and charming. A beautiful mid 19th century farmhouse situated on a quiet, rural dirt road with woods behind the house and breathtaking mountain views from the front porch. You can definitely understand why Frost loved spending his summers here with his family. A good portion of the house is closed off and used as a private residence; it was explained to us that they use it for a poets-in-residency program, meaning that they select a poet to live in the house each summer as a way to give them space and time to concentrate on their work. The part of the house that is open to the public is filled with artifacts including photos, newspaper clippings, old samples of Frost's writing and even original furniture. There's also a barn on the property where they hold a variety of workshops for poetry and the arts, and have poetry collections from some of the poets they've hosted for sale. There is also a short trail in the woods behind the house featuring signs reading some of Frost's works. There is a small, reasonable admission fee. I will also say that I don't think you necessarily have to be a big fan of Robert Frost to appreciate this place and the history of it. So if you're in the area and you have an hour or so to kill, it might be worth stopping by The Frost Place.

The American Revolutionary War's Battle of Hubbardton took place in the Vermont village of…read moreHubbardton during the Saratoga campaign. The New Hampshire Grants were a disputed region at the time that was claimed by New York, New Hampshire, and the independent government of Vermont. After leaving Fort Ticonderoga, British forces led by General Simon Fraser caught up with the American rear guard of the retreating soldiers early on July 7, 1777. It was the only battle in Vermont during the revolution as the Battle of Bennington was actually fought in New York. The marker for that battle is in Bennington https://www.yelp.com/biz/bennington-battle-monument-bennington?hrid=2mYSueSCcpnX9G-6ZwZAuA. This obelisk monument is about 20 feet tall made of white stone denoting "The only battle fought in Vermont during the Revolution" and "The Green Mountain Boys Fought Bravely." The British soldiers suffered enough casualties from the engagement that they decided not to pursue the main American army any farther. While the majority of the British soldiers traveled to Skenesboro to reunite with Burgoyne's army, the numerous American prisoners were sent to Ticonderoga. The majority of the dispersed American survivors moved on to join St. Clair's force as it advanced toward the Hudson River. Here at the Hubbarton Battlefield State Historic Site, there is a walking path and caption signs throughout that denote some of the more crucial locations of the engagement. The Street Teacher, Bill Goodhart, was exceptionally well-prepared for presenting current and historical facts about The Village, including significant events, unique architecture, famous residents and side bar items of interest. Bill's love of New York City and his unique "feel for place" made this tour a memorable experience for all of us. I highly recommend The Street Teacher for corporate functions and family outings alike. Bill's articulate, very well-educated style and wry sense of humor really humanized the tour and made everyone comfortable. He was very accessible to our questions and stimulated conversation among us. He ensured that he knew the "audience" in advance by prepping with me and even followed-up post-tour to ensure that we were satisfied, which we were. It actually exceeded our expectations. This is was a five-star experience which I plan on doing again with Bill in another area of NYC!
