After I parked, I walked down to the ferry dock, watched a couple of ferries come and go, then headed back to the parking area, climbed into my Sprinter van, and locked up for the night. Yes, I spent the night here and while that may or may not be allowed, it worked for me. At 6:00 the next morning, I work up, bought my ticket and was loaded onto the ferry about 20 minutes later. It's a 15 minute ride to cross over the lake, which I spent in the Sprinter making coffee and occasionally looking out. Super easy to cross the lake and when we arrived, the unloading was quick and I was on my way. This is a super convenient way to cross over from Plattsburgh New York to (a half hour from) Burlington Vermont. Very cool and if you are not wanting to go around the lake, this is a fabulous alternative.
