Came for a wedding as a guest. Pretty venue with a nice outdoor space. Cocktail hour was abundant! All the options possible; steak, Asian, Hispanic, Italian etc . All so tasty too! Dinner was good and the steak was HUGE. They originally got my order wrong but swapped it out for the correct one without an issue. Dessert was also abundant! I was impressed by the amount of options but the desserts I tried were subpar in flavor. They're not a restaurant so I guess I shouldn't expect too much. There were two single bathrooms on the main floor but you do have to go downstairs for the larger bathroom. A little annoying. Overall all staff were great and no issues to report. Definitely recommend having a wedding here. Although I was only a guest so I can't speak on the BTS stuff. read more

Came here for a wedding and oh my god was the food incredible. For the cocktail hour, there were a multitude of stations. Some of the highlights were the potato bar with multiple types of French fries, the pasta bar, the Asian bar, lamb chops and these chicken skewers that had a nice kick. The portions here are so incredibly massive and everything was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive and the hall itself is beautiful. I have passed the Grand Marquis many, many times over the years but this was my first affair. My event was an American Legion function - definitely a "rubber chicken" possibility. I am happy to report that my meal was excellent - it was served hot, in a timely manner. I had beef and it was nicely cooked and a good sized portion. The waitstaff was attentive and very good about removing dishes and glasses when appropriate. We had a crowd of approximately 200 people and everything seemed to go smoothly. My friend had her wedding reception here and it was a gorgeous affair from start to finish. The space is sophisticated, swanky, elegant, magical, classy, stunning, luxurious, glittering, the list goes on. We arrived a little before 6 PM (when the cocktail hour begins) so waited in a lovely room with a beautiful and dainty chandelier, arrangements of large white flowers, and a waterfall display of the letters GM, for Grand Marquis. In the adjoining room there were sweet red colored cocktails being poured, more chandeliers and white + gray marble floors. There was also a stately hallway with columns and lights going down the length of it, as well as a grand staircase with intricate design and Chihuly-esque lights on display. We were allowed to enter the area where cocktail hour was being served a few minutes before 6 PM. The room was filled with all types of appetizers, black tablecloths, candles and warm lighting. The sheer amount of food was impressive and there were even servers coming around with additional warm small bites. Most of the food was delicious, well made and flavorful (except for some of the Chinese dishes and shrimp cocktail which was quite bland). COCKTAIL HOUR EATS: Lobster, shrimp, antipasto, shrimp scampi, fried rice (which was made right in front of our eyes), shrimp and vegetable dim sum, fried dumplings, baked/fried potato station, various types of chicken, pizza, tater tots, fruit, prosciutto / cheese, bread and crackers, deviled eggs, salad, veggies, fruit After trying a bit of almost everything at the cocktail hour, we were led into the glorious main hall which was flooded with pretty pinkish purple and blue lights and boasted a masjestic, spacious dance floor, along with nicely decorated tables with pink and white flowers at the end. The bride and groom's first dance was filled with smoke and sparklers, which was definitely a sight to see and very romantic. Shortly after that, the sit down dinner was served, which started with bread rolls, salad with pieces of pita bread. I was still so full from the cocktail hour, I could barely eat any of it. For the entree, I selected the ribeye steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak was massive, so thankfully I was able to get it to go. During the reception, dancers, folks on stilts, balloons and neon lights came out which really livened the crowd. A bit later there was a room full of desserts and the selection was incredible! Everything tasted amazing. DESSERT ROOM TREATS: S'mores making station (I absolutely loooved this!), chocolate fountain (along with strawberries, pineapple, apple, banana, pound cake, rice crispy treats, wafers, marshmallows for dipping), bread pudding, apple crisp, baklava, ice cream (with sprinkles, mini M&Ms, waffles, gummy bears, oreos for toppings), snow cones, layered chocolate cake, mini cupcakes, carrot cake, red velvet cake, donuts, cheesecake, mousse, jello shots, cookies, popcorn & the wedding cake boxed up! The Grand Marquis has been a popular Central NJ catering hall for over 25 years. I have attended several weddings and sweet sixteens over the past 20 plus years. The Grand Marquis has changed hands at least once to my knowledge over that time. The location is beautiful, nicely decorated and well adorned with outdoor patios in both the front hall and back hall giving party goers outdoor space for cocktail hours, cigar smoking etc. Catering Halls are a challenge to review because many times the Catering Hall is serving what the hosts of the party request. I attended a Sweet Sixteen this past weekend and for the most part attending a party at The Grand Marquis is a positive experience. The bar service is second to none, top shelf liquor and a large variety of spirits, beer, cider and beer. The cocktail hour was very good, the grilled baby lamb chops were the star of the show for me. Beautiful cheese and antipasto items were laid out nicely. Servers handed out small bites of appetizers. The main dinner was served buffet style. The food moved and was served hot. Unfortunately there were more misses than hits. The loin of beef that was served wasn't good, poorly seasoned and flavorless. There were 2 things that I thought were solid, the turkey breast and a ravioli in a basil cream sauce. Shrimp scampi was served, while the shrimp were fresh thankfully, the sauce was flavorless and the tails were left on. Other misses included their rendition of Chicken Marsala and Penne Vodka. My family rented out their halls a few times now - and they're not terrible. The reason for the 1 star review is because of the valet. They're as ignorant as ignorant gets. They force you to valet your car. And then try to scam you out of money. The first time I came, I had to give the valet $10 to stop annoying me. This time, the valet got mad that I didn't want to valet my car and he started running his mouth with me. Definitely do not recommend this place due to the ignorant and pushy valets. read more

Attended a wedding here today, we traveled from Bayside queens to N.J. Took about 1.5 hrs travel time. Anyways upon arrival the valet took our car right away and we were directed to the lobby. Very nice decor, simple but to the point. Our friends had the ceremony, reception and late lunch. Overall the reception food was excellent, bartenders were very attentive and friendly. While the reception food had a lot of stations sushi, potato bar with potato bacon skins, pastrami, italian, cheese and charcuterie. At one point i did not want to keep eating because i was afraid i would not be able to eat the main course. Since it was very hot and humid, we did not take pictures outside. But the foyer areas have some sort of natural light ceilings and you can get great pictures even with a cellphone. The only 2 things we did not like was that the sauce for the main course. I have been to four weddings here. The last of which was this past weekend. One thing that was consistent at each is the beauty of this property. The one thing that stands out this go around was the staff. Since I was more involved with this wedding, I was more involved with the workers and when I say they truly went above and beyond, they went ABOVE and BEYOND. Not only did they cater to the bride, they also catered to the wedding party and guests. Special mention must go to Courtney. She truly showed what hard work really means. She took care of everthing from safety pins, scissors, to the flower girls hair. I mean she was everywhere helping everyone. She wasn't afraid to get on her knees to make sure everything went seamless. I actually felt bad for how much she was doing but not once did she show frustration, anger, etc. She smiled the whole way through. Another mention is Caroline. She was professional, thorough and also ensured everything went smoothly even when we thought it wouldnt. Overall I can say if you are looking for a place to host a wedding, this is a good choice. We went here for a wedding and reception last year. It was somewhat far away from the hotels we were staying in, but we had a nice shuttle service provided. There were two large rooms, with another event in the other room. As with every wedding, it takes a while to get the feel of the reception areas. They had the wedding in a round room with windows and then moved us into the adjacent area, closed off the wedding room and transformed it into the reception room. It was really cool. While they were transforming the wedding area, we were treated to open bars and light fare at numerous tables. The servers were very friendly and definitely open to tips. We were pounding the Cosmopolitans because we found a bartender who made great ones. When she went on break we were freaking out! But all was good when she returned. It was a good time. One notable thing is the bathrooms are downstairs with no elevator. There is one upstairs for handicapped but that is it. This made it difficult for my parents but it wasn't really a problem. I attended a wedding here and was very disappointed for numerous reasons. 1. The ceremonies took place outdoors, however the toad noise from Rt 9 is so loud that it ruins the ceremony. Establishments such have this have the ability to mitigate sound.. for example the sound barriers you see installed near highways.. such would have made our ceremony much better. Traffic noise in wedding videos is not acceptable. 2. The cocktail hour took place after the ceremony, however they did not have adequate seating. At least 20 people hoped to sit but were forced to stand by high top tables and eat standing..like horses. 3. The sound system in the reception Hall is not adequate. We could not understand the maid of honors speech or that if the best man. A few wireless speakers placed on the ends of the area would have solved this problem. 4. The food was not up to par. People who ordered steak did not have any complaints however the Salmon was very dry. I only ate half my serving and I don't usually leave anything on my plate. On the he upside.. Like many other reviewers, I was here for a wedding. If there is one message I can relay its MY GOD THE STEAK WAS GREAT. Seriously. If there was one glaring negative, it was the salad. My wife and I did not like it one bit. However, everything else was top notch. The ceremony itself was indoors. This was the first indoor wedding I attended besides church weddings and it was organized so well. Having our wedding at the Grand Marquis was quite possibly the best decision we made! We knew once we walked into the building that this place was already filled with so much love that it would be perfect for our day. Our coordinator at the GM, Kristin, was more of a friend by the end of everything than anything! She was extremely patient and made sure that every single detail of our day was everything we could possibly imagine. And she did it all with a smile on her face. We had a winter wedding, and I noticed a beautiful Christmas tree that was in the other room that our reception wasn't in. She knew how much I loved that tree so she made sure it was transported into our room for the reception. That was just the tip of the iceberg of how much Kristin and everyone at the Grand Marquis did to make our day so special. As for the reception itself, let me just say you need to warn your guests to come hungry! We have been told by every single guest how outrageous the cocktail hour and dessert extravaganza was. The food was delectable and made the night even more memorable! The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were fully satisfied at every point of the night. We had the wedding here at the Dom Room in 2010, and we and the guests absolutely loved it! The foods were amazing and we did upgrade for the cocktails (such as oyster bar and all) and added the dessert extravaganza. However, even without these upgrades, the foods were unbelievably delicious! For the entree, I had the sea bass n it was superb! Also the Grand Marquis gave us really wonderful surprises for our wedding, such as the castle-shaped Vodka shot ice sculpture and a giant chocolate/brownie statue to go with our wedding theme. Moreover the staffs were very attentative, friendly, and professional! Only downside of this place is that it's located near the Highway Rt 9, so it doesn't have a spacious lovely outdoor area for the outdoor wedding...however, the garden is still decorated nicely for the people to take pictures outside. Also we asked for the sushi station during the cocktail hour but they changed to seared tuna station without telling us, so that's no big deal, but still wish they have informed us of the change. I recently went to Grand Marquis to chaperon a Prom. The event had a total of 500+guests, so I am sure there are some differences with the size of this event and the average wedding/Sweet 16, but here it goes... When I arrived, there was a sign that said Valet, so I stopped. The two kids sitting there were on their phones and it took them a lil bit to realize I was there. They then told me I could park myself, which was fine, but they should have had the self-park sign there instead of valet to avoid confusion. There was another event going on (a Sweet 16) and our area had just finished with a wedding. However, I think they handled everything very well and I overheard the venue coordinator and it seems like they're very good and handling multiple events at a time as well as event transitions. The venue was very clean as well. There were some logistical issues, such as the majority of students and staff arriving 45 minutes late. Therefore, there was no true cocktail hour and the passed appetizers ran out very quickly. Again, I'm sure this isn't the fault of the venue due to the very late start. They also ran out of the signature beverage that was put out upon entering the room, but they were sure to put more out for the rest of the desks when asked. I know we had A LOT of people, but the chairs at the tables were somewhat cramped and we ended up short on seats- not sure if this was the venue's fault or the fault of those relaying info to the venue. Either way, some people had to stand at the bar and eat. There were two buffets set up, and with the amount of people there, the lines were very long. I would definitely recommend setting up more stations with a group of such a large size. The food options were: shredded beef with peppercorns, chicken francaise, eggplant parm, rice, potatoes and penne vodka. There was no salad or veggies, but I'm not sure if this was just what was chosen or if it didn't come with the package. I tried the beef, chicken and eggplant, and unfortunately thought the food was very soggy and salty. Everyone else I spoke with said the same about the food- blah. Eventually the potatoes ran out and they were replaced with french fries, which I definitely think takes away from the elegance of the venue. For dessert, they put some cookies and pastries on the table and also had a cotton candy station and an ice cream station set up. But again, the lines were very long for both. Another gripe I have are the bathrooms- from our room to the bathrooms was a lengthy walk and down the stairs- which is annoying in heels. Also, our room was VERY cold. Luckily I danced most of the time to warm up, but when I wasn't dancing, I was freezing. The service was unbelievable, amazing, attentive and genuine. This place is gorgeous and the florist they recommended (marquis florist) made the place look like a dream come true. Before COVID hit my (at the time) fiancé and my parents we went to GM to take a look at this place for a venue for our wedding. There's 2 rooms here. Since we were having 100 people we got the dome room and to be honest it's the better looking room. It has a beautiful chandelier in the center of the room. First time we went there there was a party in that room so we couldn't see it. We left without making any commitments and we both knew we wanted to be in the Dome room from the (second visit) moment we walked in the room. So we that day booked our wedding. My father asking about what happens if needing to cancel cause of the weather and then hits COVID. We moved our reception from August 2020 to October 2020 to April 2021. We finally had our party, but 2 weeks before the party our 50ish people weren't enough for the owners and they gave 2 choices that flat out weren't fair to us. So talking to the owners telling them we did send it out to over 100 people and most of them ghosted us or didn't feel comfortable coming (they said since August they would work with us) we came to the one choice that worked for us and the owners. We got to celebrate our party. My husband and I went to our private room for cocktail hour and the lady was a no show so a good amount of our cocktail hour was waiting outside the room till I saw my mom to tell them no one was there. So the manager came down and first got the code wrong to open the door. So when she did open the door the room was FREEZING. Even my husband said it was cold and he rarely ever gets cold. So she got my jacket from upstairs and some drinks saying she will return. Then the event planner we had from GM came (returned with food) and the waitress we were having upstairs came down too and brought food. So we had 2 full hot foods and 1 cold plate of food meanwhile we already had at least 20 mins taken away from waiting for person to open the door / get food. None of them returned after that. They all came in around one after each other. My husband had to open the door each time too. Not the best cocktail hour. Everyone upstairs enjoyed the food. (They also had more choices then us) Inside the dome room things were a lot better. I definitely recommend having your party here. read more

Isolated on Rt 9, this place is an alright place to have a wedding. Nothing here is grandiose. The food is below average. Not saying you'll have a bad time, but you won't be impressed either. Went here for a friend's wedding. They had a Jewish style ceremony in a poorly sunlit room adjacent to the cocktail room. The cocktail tables were way too small. Some were pressed up against columns. The bathrooms were located in the basement. Although you turn the corner to get to the urinals and stalls, because of the placement of the mirrors, as soon as you open the door, you'll be greeted with the sight of a man peeing in the far right urinal. The main room contains a large dance floor surrounded on 3 sides by tables. Think horseshoe with the bride and groom table at the apex. The one bar was located on the far side, not at all convenient for those on the other side who would have to cut through the dance floor to get there. Now on to the meat and potatoes of the review. Both figuratively and literally. Cocktail hour featured two types of beef carving stations. Roast beef served with some sort of pesto, except really heavy on the olive oil. It was mildly flavorful and a bit chewy. Nothing impressive. Pastrami certainly had a pastrami taste, but was way too tough to enjoy to the flavor. They also had a sliced salami station. This was probably the tastiest of the meats as it's difficult to overcook. So tasty yes, but having an entire station dedicated to salami slices seemed like a waste. Also new for 2012 (2nd time this year a catering hall offered this sort of service, and I've never seen it previously) is the mashed potato station. Both sweet and russett potatoes are offered with marshmallows and brown sugar geared more towards the sweet potato and scallions, sauteed mushroom, sauteed onion, sour cream, garlic and cheese being offered for the russett. Unfortunately, they didn't offer bacon. Their cold bar offered a slew of canned pitted olives, not-so-gourmet cheeses, cold pastas, sauteed (didn't seem grilled) eggplant, zucchini and squash and jarred artichoke hearts. It's kind of shameful swallowing a mouthful of canned artichoke juice when taking a bite into the artichoke. Appetizers were a mixed bag. While watching the first dances, we were slipped a plate with 4 compartments. One corner was fresh mozzarella and tomato. It was a beautiful red vine tomato. Unfortunately, it lacked any flavor. Another corner featured a thin cut cucumber wrapped around a green leaf lettuce leaf. This was finished with a drizzle of dressing that seemed to have a peanut taste to it. Pretty nice touch. Another corner had hummus with two stale pita triangles. It was ho-hum(mus). The last corner was thin asparagus with parmegiano-reggiano on top. Not really a great combination, but each piece individually was decent. Now to the entree. Since I can remember, I have always gone with the beef offering. The only thing that has changed is I've gone from well done in my childhood days to rare nowadays. Unfortunately, the meat I've been getting lately has still been well done. I have yet to have a decent piece of filet mignon in 2012 at a wedding! As for desserts, they were quite yummy. I don't mean to be cynical, but I can imagine these being made off premises. You get a plate with tiramisu, tart topped w/ strawberry, kiwi and blackberry and some stale wafer cylinder. The first two desserts were delicious. All in all, the Grand Marquis did nothing to ruin the night. Everyone still had a great time. I still ate. The drinks were on point and the food was out of this world good. The only person we had a problem with was Nertila. She never answered emails and told us certain things that turned out to be untrue, but the maitre d took care of any issues we had. I can't recommend this establishment enough. I am so glad my wife and I selected the Grand Marquis to hold our wedding reception. While we selected catering from another vendor, Grand Marquis excelled in every other area under their control. The staff was fantastic, the venue was beautiful, and everything that could have gone wrong, didn't go wrong. First off, our event coordinator, Kristin, was amazing. She took over our account after our previous coordinator left the company, and we didn't miss a step. Kristin was quick to respond, offered fair advice and so helpful. It was a blessing that she took over. On the day of our event, the bridal attendant and Maitre D were by our side at all times. In fact, Cathy helped and made sure our event went smoothly, without any hitches and ensured the staff was on top of things. Our Bridal Attendant, was helpful throughout our photo sessions and throughout the night. She was so helpful to my wife. In fact, everyone was always there to help us. We went there for a wedding, the venue was ok and staff surely friendly and attentive but being vegans we found there was little thought for us and our diet. They made us something with rice, I asked for some asparagus which they provided but the meal was just a pile of rice (that I think may have had chicken stock or butter in it) and 4 pieces of asparagus that I had to ask for. Later at coffee time I asked for a non dairy creamer, soy, almond, cashew or any plant based milk... nope they didn't even have that. Unfortunately this is all too common, staff and owners totally don't understand what the word vegan means as in no meat, no dairy, eggs or anything that comes from an animal. We also had two OTHER vegans at our table as well, didn't even know this until dinner was ordered so maybe the diet isn't as obscure as one would think. read more

Grand Marquis blew us away! We attended a bar mitzvah and the food was incredible, but the service was out of this world! Our water glasses never got to half full, we got multiple cups of coffee, and our server was so friendly, she made the entire event! We can't imagine how hard it is to pull this off with so many kids in attendance, and it's been years and years since we've been here for any type of party, but this place is such a gem. Went here recently for a wedding. We almost passed it up because a tree was covering a good part of the sign for the place. They need to light up the entrance so it is easier to see and not pass up. The food was good, not spectacular, but good. The cocktail hour had plenty to choose from but my favorite was the pasta braised with short ribs. I actually went back for more. The entrée I had (filet mignon) was good. Some people at my table said that it tasted gamey but I didn't think so. I thought that perhaps it was an Australian cut of filet. I do have to say that I had the best mashed potatoes that I ever had...ever!!! They were skin-on red potatoes with a nice, spicy kick. They were creamy and soooo delicious. I wanted to ask for the recipe. The Viennese hour was OK. I have seen better and I have seen worse. The service was very good and attentive. I happened to like the champagne that was served at the table for the toast and mentioned it to the waitress. She brought over a bottle to the table. That was very nice of her. The one issue that I had was the lighting in the room. They had these color changing light contraptions plugged in to the walls and scattered around the room by the tables. They were HORRIBLE. It gave the room such ugly hues and it wasn't very complimentary against your skin tone. I was talking to the person next to me at one point when the light was changing to green and her face actually turned green. She looked like the Wicked Witch of the West. I felt so bad that the thought went through my mind, that I immediately turned around and unplugged the light behind me. That was much better and I wished that I had done it earlier in the evening. read more

Venue is nice but the Food is not ! Had awful experience with the food. They served one guest steamed fish or was it raw with lots of salted gravy!! But there is gravy on everything. Just horrible experience with the food. Lucky if you get a server that speaks English. The manager is condescending, he really does not care. The reception was already paid ! My daughter's wedding was here 7/10/2015. It was wonderful from start to finish. The staff were all so helpful and the food so delicious and plentiful. The venetian hour was so awesome. The renovations were lovely, we used the outside area for the ceremony - it was the best! I want to be invited to a wedding here to enjoy all over again! Grand Marquis, "thank you" for helping us to have the wedding of my dreams! My girl "Allie" was amazing and everything I could have wished for in terms of assistance the day before and up until the time we left the Grand Marquis the day of the wedding. They did a superb job. Service was impeccable, staff was incredible, management was attentive and the food and appearance were simply fabulous! I want another wedding there just to experience the day again! My wedding was in July and guests who attended are still talking about it! My only complaint would be that I trusted, recommended entertainment via Grand Marquis' site. STAY AWAY!!! You will never be able to prepare them enough to assure that your entertainment goes as well as possible. Everything that I did to prepare was to no avail. Many meetings & notes took place and were provided, but still a disaster. It's not what happens, but how you fix it. That's if you want to fix it (I guess not). Only, ego, ego, ego. Find entertainment on your own. Speak to pasts clients to verify. Thank God that what Grand Marquis displayed outshined the entertainment, otherwise we would have had a disaster of a wedding.
