They upped their game here. The artichoke fritters were delicious and the sauce was perfectly lemony but also smooth and buttery. The calamari was ok but had a good crunch to it. For dinner I had the reuben and enjoyed it. It is served open faced with fresh cut fries. I usually like thinner fries but these were good. The salmon was also really good. It was cooked just right and the corn vegetable medley that is served on was good. The fudge cake was also a great end to the meal. They stepped up the quality here. Will be back.

I frequently visit in Freehold area for work, and this time I stayed at the American hotel. There is parking behind the hotel, but they will give you a parking sign and you just have to park at the end of the parking lot. The check in process if it was very smooth and the person at the desk was very friendly. They even give you a drink voucher for the bar. After a long drive, I just wanted to get to my room. To my surprise when I got into my room, I was surprised at how nice it was. It was very clean. I would definitely stay here again.

Eric the bartender is the best in the business We know him for decades always a great night out when he's on duty. The restaurant has a new name It's called The Standard. Excellent service and I loved my chicken and waffles. I'm forgetting what the rest of my party had but I do remember the fried calamari and it was so good we ordered 2x.All in all a fun night out

FREEHOLD: Downtown Freehold is so beautiful with a tree-lined street, historic buildings, events, and a charming atmosphere. It is hard to find a restaurant in town that allows dogs outside, but The American Hotel was gracious to let us dine with Brie! The dog friendly tables are along the street and when it is not too busy, you can sit closer to the building. It may be a bit noisy from the street traffic, but Brie was fine. The view of Main Street and the setting sun provided a perfect backdrop for a great meal of American-style food. The lobster roll was huge and the artichoke francaise was delicious! A full bar with a nice cocktail list round out the menu: happy hour is every day from 3-6pm! The hotel has been around since 1824 and was renovated in 2007 to its current state. Abraham Lincoln visited in 1861!

The food here is always delicious, very consistent. The bartender Eric makes a great drink but our waitress Soul stole the show. She is just amazing!

Went for lunch with my friend and had a wonderful experience. We had a great waiter that was super helpful on figuring out between choices of appetizers and entrees. For appetizer we got the crispy goat cheese with a blackberry sauce and it was phenomenal. We also got the spicy shrimp crostinis and it was delicious. As an appetizer I would've wanted maybe 1 more shrimp because 3 shrimp as an appetizer just doesn't make sense but that's just knit-picking. For my entree I got the lunch special salmon with a creamy lemon sauce and mashed potato's and it was just everything. The salmon was buttery and smooth and the lemon sauce was delicious. My friend got the chicken Milanese and she loved it the cutlet was crispy and flavorful. Overall great experience and fair prices, so recommend !

Everything was beyond wonderful at this restaurant. We got same day reservation (it was early for a Saturday 6pm) but we were so happy we were able to get in last minute . The service was impressive and the food was even better. So many options as well as for alcoholic beverages. Truly did not disappoint. FYI Bring a sweater if you run cold- it's slightly on the breezier side inside there in the summer (:

Wow - no refund for a cancellation almost a month in advance. Most hotels at least have a two week policy or even less. Shameful!

To start, this review is 2 years late as we stayed there in May of 2024 for a show we attended in Red Bank. Property was used as a state funded shelter to house homeless / welfare recipients. I can't confirm or deny this is still happening in 2026. We checked in, exhausted from our 6 hour drive. At first glance, we were impressed with the hotel's charming decor and couldn't wait to crash. The first impression quickly faded as we headed to our room to the sounds of screams and N bombs billowing through the halls. Great, this was our neighbor. Walked into the room and couldn't even hold a conversation with my wife as the obnoxious voice in the next room was overbearing. Hadn't even been in the hotel 5 minutes and I'm already back at the front desk requesting we be assigned another room. The front desk clerk advised the property was full but assured us she'd speak to our neighbor and tell her to pipe down. Apparently she knew her personally. Did that work? Yes....for exactly 10 minutes. Then it was back to screams, n words and "yo yo yo yo m-fer this m-fer that." Could've sworn Cardi B was in the next room. Demanded our reservation cancel at this point with a full refund. Front desk lady told us she would boot the woman from the property. This is where it gets spicy. Front desk lady and woman are now involved in a full-scale verbal shoot out in the hallway. The clerk then summoned another staff member for assistance. Apparently, they didn't get along and were bickering back and forth in the midst of trying to evict this woman from the hotel. Doesn't get more professional than that. Police were called and finally after a 2-hour song and dance the woman vacated the premises. The police seem to be regular visitors there, the staff highlighted their frequent pop ins. Spoke to the Manager the next day, who seemed empathetic to our experience. We were promised a refund for the eventful night. When we returned home, I emailed him to touch base about it, never to hear back from him again. Moral of the story? Don't let eloquent settings fool you from the ratchet bowels that lie within the walls.

First of all, right on Rt. 34 S, not far off the GSP, and plenty of options for dining in the area. "Continental breakfast" was breads, bagels, a few cereals, Activia yogurt, bananas, coffee and tea, OJ. We were happy to have Cheerios, an unsweetened choice. There were a microwave, a mini fridge, and a TV in the room. The shower in the room was good. I found the bed and pillows mildly uncomfortable but it was just the one night and fine. Our room was right around the corner from the reception desk, and right across the hall from the laundry room, with windows open to the parking lot, but aside from 1 very loud conversation in the hallway right after we went to bed, it was quiet enough. The ambiance of the hotel is cute, reminiscent of an older era, nicely decorated. Of course Colt's Neck was (maybe still is) known for horses, hence the name. For me, the highlight was actually the next morning after we checked out - it's barely a half mile from the Central NJ famed Delicious Orchards. We drove back to NYC with more than 5 lbs of fresh autumn apples, a fantastic apple turnover, and a pkg of apple cider donuts!

The front desk staff were so kind and accommodating to our requests, and very thoughtful towards my 2.5 year old, bringing her crayons and coloring sheets, and chatting with her. I also saw the same respect extended to other guests. I haven't seen this level of attentiveness, kindness and professionalism in many hotels, so it definitely stood out. We also enjoyed the outdoor pool and used the grill, which was easy to reserve. They had all the tools needed for the grill and we were allotted two hours, but since it was the last reservation of the day, we were able to stay a little longer. Overall, it was a lovely experience because of the staff and we would certainly visit again.

They even opened it early for us which was greatly appreciated. 2. The suites were pretty spacious. It was easy to move around. Where they need improvement: 1. There was sand in my sheets. It was obvious the staff did not change not the sheets after the last guests. 2. The layout was a little tough to navigate. I get the appeal but I was with a large group of blind people who had a hard time finding their rooms. 3. The vanity light stopped working. It worked the first night but didn't work after that.

Splinter HELL, I hope you don't want ice…read more This hotel was fantastic at first, especially the corner pool terrace suite. Easy access to the pool, large and lots of light. But my god, it is splinter hell. Us, along with 3 other families that we knew of, were realizing at the pool that us and our kid's feet were completely full of splinters. We spent a total of about 3 hours at the pool over 2 days and my four year old had over 50 splinters in each foot! I had about 10 and spouse a few less. My four year old will not even let me look at his foot, nevertheless remove the splinters - yeah right. I think we are going to need to get sedated. This has ruined the stay to be honest. The hotel also didn't have tweezers. At least two families complained and nothing seemed to be done about it. The deck is extremely dry. This wouldn't be a hard problem to solve. ICE. I requested ice about 20 different ways, because there is no ice machine so they say just request it: - through the app on their tablet (3x, nothing) - through calling the front desk (2x, nothing) - in person at the front desk (2x, nothing) - through text to the front desk (4x, nothing) - in person to the person that came to the room one night (2x, 1x worked!) I got ice once, woohoooooo! The tablet is a joke. I needed an extra bedsheet and requested it through the tablet and it never came. In person at the front desk it did, however. Beautiful hotel, but the splinters ruined it. You could not pay ME to stay somewhere that my autistic kid gets 100 splinters in his feet. The hotel is feeling a bit neglected in some ways. Our "terrace" had algae on the deck area, one couch cushion had a big brown spot and there was half of a DEAD BIRD on our terrace. It was there the whole time. Of course my 4 year old was enthralled.Yay.
