I recently volunteered at a fundraiser casino that was run at Grand Villa casino. As a trans person, I was fully expecting to use and see my legal name on the documents and computer. I worked in the count room, and seeing my preferred name, with my legal name in brackets almost brought tears to my eyes. Words cannot express the immense gratitude I feel towards the staff, who were all so amazing and accommodating. Classy casino. Great restaurants. Awesome vibe on event days. Similar to Las Vegas hotels. Hosts treat regulars well. I have been going to grand villa casino since it opened. It's a great place to gamble or eat. It is the best casino in edmonton. Only downside is the parking. It's free but it's in the back of the arena. The casino is small but it has enough slot machines and tables to play comfortably. The place gets crazy busy before and after event days. On other days it's just really quiet here. The hosts here are awesome. They spoil their guests the minute they walk in. I have never paid for drinks bc they always take care of me. They also hold private events which are pretty fun! Free food and drinks are a nice perk of being a regular gambler. Often they have draws for free stuff as well! I highly recommend this place for gambling. No other casino treats the regulars this well. It is a nice casino and most of the food is outstanding. Atlas is a steakhouse located upstairs and it's one of the best restaurants in edmonton! Match holds great events as well, mini performances, pay per view events and is a lively loud place. Just expect slow service on event days but otherwise this place is one of my favourite hangouts in edmonton! read more

Free appetizer with the check-in link! :) I don't gamble too much but I would say that I am a fan of this place. I like the casino vibe and the Grand Villa is close to my house. So if I need to get a quick fix, I'll go. I like the Roulette tables here. Although there are only 2, so you might be stuck waiting a bit. There are TONS of slots though, so you'll never be lost for those (lol). It's a bit of a smaller casino. I would say it has a bit less going on than others in the city, but it's not bad. They have a bar area in the middle which is nice. The service I got there was great and the staff were friendly. That level of friendliness extends to the cashiers, dealers, check-in tables and more. This location, this atmosphere and top it off I get to possibly earn money while I have a beverage...win win win!!! My experience with Grand Villa Casino has always been quality. The machines, the drinks and the staff usually top off a game date night for my husband and I so I cannot claim to be an expert at the tables or know which machines to watch for but I certainly know a good time and this place has all the right elements . Keep an eye out for a chair on hockey nights because they are few and far between but during the week is a nice time to visit for friends or mother daughter outings that you don't need to fly to Vegas for. The usual rules apply for drinks...for Canada that is you have to pay!!!! I would be a bigger proponent of the tables!!! Keep the class and lose the ass though is probably a good rule for the drink prices so I will keep stopping in on hockey nights!!! read more

I can't say I know much about this Casino as I only just walked in to accompany a friend for a few minutes, but it was really clean and new-looking. People inside seemed really well behaved at the time when I visited, and the machines looked new and well-maintained. I was saddened at how many machines had casual cultural appropriation (or subtle racism) in their themes, but that's not unusual for casino machines. My friend raved about the discounts provided by their player rewards program, and he seemed really happy with this casino. I wonder how different this casino is behind the scenes. read more

Good and cozy casino. My wife played 2 hands of black jack and won both hands. The casino is quite quiet during the day time allowing the customers to observe and choose the right tables to play your hands. Overall, I think this casino is quite friendly and easy to get around comparing to other casinos and it could be a landmark for visitors to Edmonton. read more

I've been to Grand Villa a few times and it's my favourite Edmonton casino so far. It's clean and bright, there's rows and rows of snazzy new slot machines. I've won a few decent jackpots there as well! The players rewards will get you some discounted or free food, so that's always cool! The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful and the ladies taking drink orders have been known to make up something special when I'm not sure what I want. The casino itself is laid out in a loop, so there's no wandering around aimlessly wondering where the heck you are! The bathrooms are spotless and the sinks have those neat all-in-one tap/hand dryer deals! I like that there's a number of food choices available including Pinkberry (yum)! I'll admit that I haven't eaten at Match, but I plan on reviewing it next time I'm in. All in all a great place and this would be a 5 star review but for the fact that it's located downtown, so not super convenient for me and kind of a gong show when there's an event happening at Rogers Place. read more

the worst bar tenders work at this casino stood in line for 20 mins and this terrible bartender decided it was a good idea to just serve a single file line instead of a section of a bar. if you are are going to charge a premium for drinks at least be able to serve said drink. she was cleary not qualified for the job so why have such a Incompetent person working a busy night. brutal. read more

This new casino located downtown has replaced the old Baccarat casino. Unfortunately it is small, doesn't have that "exciting, have fun and win money" kinda feel to it and the worst, no parking. During the week, not very busy in the evening - most of the blackjack tables are empty. Who wants to play by themselves?? But the poker tables seem busy as the pai gow table. Most dealers seem new and are not that friendly which makes losing money even worse! The main entrance does not shout out to make you want to go in to check it out. All you see through the doors is some staff who check your ID before you can go up the narrow escalator. The casino is situated on the second floor. Just to the left, their Player's Club is small with barely any space for lining up and the lottery machine is only operated by certain staff. There are two kiosks for swiping your Player's card but one is hidden unless you have actually walked to the corner beside the Match restaurant. Washrooms are nowhere to be found but there are some...two unisex ones also hidden around a corner. At least these ones are clean but don't look like they are used often. The other one that I know of is upstairs by the Atlas restaurant. There are only three stalls in the ladies, weird for a place that could potentially hold so many people. And the other two unisex ones are inside the Match restaurant which would be used by those customers, again weird. If you go on a weekend or when there is an event happening at Roger's Place, it should be busier but try not to bump into anyone sitting at a slot machine! Quite disappointing for all the hype that was going on about this place. read more

Want to avoid heartache and frustration?--then stay away from this casino. Problem solved. The customer service would be laughable if it wasn't so annoying. The Guest Services desk--located near the top of the escalator--had a long line in front of it, most of the people seemed to be waiting to sign up for player's cards. The staff at the desk seemed to be under the impression that everyone in line was there to admire them--like they were celebrities doing a personal appearance. We certainly weren't there for customer service, were we? There were four people behind the counter and none of them seemed to be doing anything. I know they weren't asking if they could help who's next. Finally after someone butted in line to ask the staff a question I had enough and approached the counter. I'm not sure if it was my turn yet but I got sick of waiting for my invitation. The "service" rep I got was an abrupt, stone-faced shrew with all the charm of a substitute teacher threatening kids with a ruler who ends all her sentences with the word "yup" (presumably to convince herself that she has the final word on everything). She walked me through my issue quickly enough so as not to cause herself any undue strain. My wife asked where the player's card machines were. She replied: "ALL the machines are on the right. Yup." (Her right is the customer's left, by the way. That goes to show whose perspective she is most interested in.) Then her head and eyes quickly darted away to face the nearest shiny object (not the next customer) indicating that our conversation was over. Which leads me to Heartache #2: This place is so cramped and cluttered. It looks like it was designed for a bunch of ADHD-addled chimpanzees to play hide-and-seek and fling their shit at one another around the tight corners. If you're 4ft tall and adept at climbing VLT machines and swinging from one to the other--don't bother reading on--you're good. You'll have no problem getting around in here. The aforementioned player's card machines to the LEFT of Guest Services (Yup!) are about a millimeter apart from one another and conveniently placed in such a manner that when there's as little as one person using them they're blocking access to a row of gaming machines. To top that off, the usual onlookers who like to watch other people play the machines (for whatever reason) end up blocking the player's card machine. And contrary to what the untamed shrew told me, ALL the player's card machines aren't beside Guest Services. There are some more inside. She just couldn't be bothered to explain where they were located. Was this layout designed by someone who's never been in a casino before? They apparently did not take into account that large volumes of people will be frequenting this place and that these people might actually need access to the wares the casino itself is hocking. The atmosphere inside Grand Villa does not look at all like the picture on their website and Twitter page. I'm talking about the one with all the young, sexy, well-dressed white people crudely Photoshopped onto a graphic artist's likeness of a well-lit casino interior with tons of space. (They look like they were at a singles mixer in the basement of church with a really harsh dress code.) When the shiny newness of Grand Villa Casino wears off and the employees and management can no longer ride the novelty of being the hot new place to be--they will have to step up their game. They can start by hiring new people at Guest Services. Yup. read more

I was really hoping for something great with a new shining, and sparkly casino downtown but nope. I have been numerous times to the Grand Villa and just about every time, I'm disappointed with something. The first time, it was very crowded so people bumping into me and stepping on my toes so I wanted to come back before I wrote a review and have been back about 4-5 times now. The one thing about this place is I was expecting it to be much bigger. Sure it's nicer than the old Baccarat casino but at least there was more room to walk. During my last visit, there was a person playing a slot and another person that was playing on the machine one over from the machine directly behind the person and I barely had room to walk through. I could only imagine if people were playing slots behind each other, I can forget about walking down that aisle. When there's an event at next door Rogers Place, you can hardly move in here and people are lined up in the casino to get a table at Match. I have eaten at Match but I will save those details for their review. The service here is bad. I have had a Players Card for years and when I get Player Points or want to redeem my points, there's a disorganized mess at the Customer Service desk. One time there was 4-5 staff, and they looked like they were doing something like ripping coupons but there was only one customer being served while there's a line up of people there. Then if you do line up, the staff will help whoever butts and goes right up to them. I guess this is a place where one shouldn't respect a line up?! A couple of weeks ago, they opened Sbarro and Vera's Burger Shack. I was by the community rink and it was busy as there was a concert next door. I saw numerous customers get their food and then look around for a place to sit. I guess they expect people to stand and eat their pizza and messy burgers and fries as I haven't seen any seating for customers ordering from the food court. The one thing the Grand Villa is doing is having contests on social media and cash draws in person to get people through the doors. I haven't been here on a draw day but I could only imagine the mayhem of crowds standing around waiting for the draws and a place to stay away unless you want to be close enough to hug each other. I would hug them all if I'm the lucky winner of $5000. The washrooms by the elevator seems to be taken care of and clean. There's 2 sets of stalls, one on the left and one on the right once you enter. There's soap, water (but sometimes super cold) and a dryer at each sink so that's convenient and maybe the only thing they got right here? Palace casino in WEM is owned by the same company and when talking with one of the staff there, my impressions are the same of others he's spoken with so it seems to be a common theme; too crowded with no room to walk among the slot machines and tables. With the old Baccarat, at least the dealers were friendly and knew what they're doing. Someone told me, it's not the same friendliness here but at least they know how to count when playing Blackjack, haha (or maybe not if you read Maggie G's review). I know casino gamblers that tell me they have been and aren't coming back or don't want to come as there's no parking (unless you want to pay an arm and maybe your leg too). A competing casino has jumped on this fact and is advertising their free parking. I think I will head over there instead or maybe Vegas ... read more

Wow! Such an upgrade from the baccarat! Not that would be a difficult task. But first time in there tonight and was shocked how nice it was! We had a great time! And the machines my friends played had good payout %. Only reason I won't give it a 5 is the dealers. They are really slow. I was playing blackjack. They weren't engaging, At all, and at one point I had to correct one trying to take my $10 bet I had a 19 hand, he had an 18. Other than that, no complaints! read more

The one 4 star instead of 5 was because we went there on a night when Summer wasn't working and the two dude bartenders didn't know what the f*ck was going on behind the bar. If you want a good time then stay away from this casino. I visited edmonton and was hoping to end my night in a relaxing environment, this place was far from it. And this is more directed to the lounging spot, where you can relax and unwind. The server that I had was not interested in taking our orders, and after waiting 45 minutes going over to remind her on what we had ordered 45 minutes ago, only for her to ask us what was the order the worst experience ever. I really enjoy the Grand Villa casino in Vancouver, and it was definitely my go-to place and when I found out that Edmonton was opening up a Grand Villa, I was SUPER excited and was let down. The casino is fairly small, and the dealers have NO idea what they're doing. The customer service isn't that great. I went to sign up for a players card and the machine was broken. I want to give this place a higher rating, but I can't. I want to give this place a lower rating, but it has a lot of the table games that I play, so I am giving it 3 stars. FAN FIRST IMPRESSIONS!! After the first public un-vailing of the new Rogers Arena Saturday September 10 we stopped by to check it out the new Grand Villa, I have been to Vegas and other casino's in Edmonton many times before-and for many years. I liked the set up, after going up the escalator to the main entrance the place was absolutely PACKED. Nice clean and modern interior and great thought about the food service options being offered, the feel about the gaming areas was actually refreshing. Guest Services were very friendly and accomodating given the fact that it was the last run of attendees that day who were leaving leaving Rogers Arena in droves-I was arriving after the last 4 pm time slot open for the main public for the 'look and see' event. By the way that was also really awesome! Although I didn't play any games given how busy and packed it was, I did have a drink at the main open circular bar. Service was a bit uncoordinated as so many people ran tabs, split tabs and paid by debit card. What ever happened to just using $$ and servers were so busy and working hard to keep up with the high volume of thirsty customers. Looks like a great dining experience with the various dishes and meal offerings. Cant wait to return, when it is not that frantic. I liked the VIP tables room and high end second floor restaurant dining room menu-It is AweSome food choices. Gone are the potatoe chips, packaged sandwiches and veggies/dip in cheap plastic containers!! I also went to Guest Services to get a Grand Villa players rewards card, and was told it would be available the next day-GREAT! Then he gave me back my ID and my application form- WHAT! (he would need the application form to process my rewards card request). I guess some more training in this area will come in handy for Guest Services. I will post more on the staff, and the food which I unfortunately didn't have time to eat, yet and the staff at this new fancy, smansy Grand Villa! read more

I visited the Grand Villa Casino three times over the last week or so and can report that while the staff seem to be friendly enough, things seem to be a bit half-assed there when it comes to food and beverage service. As I'd imagine that staff would like to maximize tip potential, I can't help but conclude that this is a management issue. Given the space and the potential, I'm surprised that food and beverage service isn't handled better there. read more

Very nice casino. I volunteered for my grandsons baseball league. The casino was clean and staff was friendly. Had a meal at the Match restaurant and the food was hot and tasted good (had pizza). The only thing that I would suggest is that the parking lot 404 be more lit up. The homeless coming up to people and asking for money in a pushy manor was a bit uneasy. read more
