I want to love this place, and I certainly could, but the fact of the matter is that too many things are broken. I expect a couple of things to go wrong on a given trip but this place... Pros: +Location has great access to Banff National Park +Lots of great nearby espresso, esp. Eclipse +Great waterslide for the kids +Unique architectural layout +Underground parking +Private outdoor penthouse hot tub is sweet! +Washer/dryer is handy +Unit was clean Cons - mainly it's just all stuff in disrepair: -AirCon has 2 modes: super loud (65 db per my Apple watch) or off. Perhaps replacing the filter would make it better? Is there a way to allow the guest to adjust the fan speed? Also it doesn't work great, takes 2 hrs to get from 78F to 72F. -Screen door has large hole in it. And other door has no screen at all. -Kitchen faucet is partially broken -Downstairs enclosed shower has many fancy functions but none of them work - which makes it just a basic shower (better than none for sure) -The hot tub area has hundreds of weeds in the rockery. -The only nearby elevator has been out of service for a day+ -The only condiments provided in the kitchen are salt and pepper, normally vacation condos have a lot more -When we arrived the cushions for the outdoor furniture were in the master closet If all of these were fixed I'd go 4 or maybe 5 stars. Stair concerns: If on the 4th floor there are lots of stairs inside the unit, toddlers and elders beware Stairs are all wood - while they look nice if someone falls it's gonna hurt a lot So in short lots of unrealized potential here. read more

Solid place to stay in Canmore. Having stayed here for 4 nights, I find this resort to have all the amenities we needed and it is conveniently located to everything, including Banff. All the common appliances are included and I especially like the indoor and outdoor spa next to lobby. I do think these suites need upgrade to the showers and the floors could be cleaner. Overall, this is a solid choice to stay at when visiting Banff. Recommend. read more

We keep coming back & always ask for the same room in their Annex hotel. It has an exterior door out to the patio where you can sit and watch people and cars go by and have bunny visitors. The carpet is stained and needs a deep clean or replacement. Overall the room was clean and stocked well. Bed and pillows were super comfy. Large bathroom with massive shower. Love the rainfall showerhead and the handheld option. 2 complimentary bathrobes for use. Front desk, reservation & other hotel staff were all friendly & helpful. We booked this hotel through Hotwire as advertised as a 4 Star location. When we checked in the main resort building looked nice be we were assigned to the "Annex" which was sub-par, and our room was dirty and dusty. We were very disappointed and when we complained they said they had no other rooms available, but we could go to their sister hotel if we paid an additional $400 PER NIGHT! Do yourself a favor and make sure to READ all of the reviews, particularly the negative ones, before booking this hotel (as even at a discounted rate it is NOT WORTH IT! You can stay at a nicer hotel in the area for cheaper and not have to experience being ripped off, disgusting conditions, and poorly trained staff with hostile attitudes). There is definitely a management issue at this resort, and it is also in need of some serious maintenance and upkeep. It is a private set of condos that are rented out; however, they are not maintained and there is zero hotel service. Why pay a hotel price if you are clearly not staying at a hotel? Issues we had included: - disgusting smell of garbage permeated our hallway (we stayed in room 132- the entire hallway wing stunk of garbage- avoid @ all costs) -there was dirty laundry and hotel bedding piled up in the corner of our hallway. It sat there stinking for over 14 hours, was there when we went to bed and was plainly visible the next morning with additional dirty sheets piled on top. Steps from our room, this was disgusting. (See photos attached to this review). Between that and the stench of garbage wafting from the garbage room, we literally had to hold our shirts over our nose to get to our room. -someone barfed downstairs in the hallway to the car park. It sat there for over 24 hours until staff picked up some of it (the barf was still visible). The stairwells looked like they had never been cleaned and were disgusting -the toilet in our room was broken and ran loudly all night -we were only given one towel and one facecloth for our room that had a queen bed and was clearly being occupied by two people. When we requested more towels around 7:40am, none were provided until around 5pm when "housekeeping" finally showed up to "freshen up our room" right as we returned from a day of skiing. As we were preparing to head for dinner we skipped that offer and took the towels. We asked housekeeping if they could come back in 15-20 mins as we were preparing to go for dinner, but they informed us that they couldn't as they would "be off of work by then." -furniture in our room was all scratched and had seen better days. Dishes in the kitchenette were dirty (that being said, based on the filthiness of the common areas we were not inspired to even try cooking here) -strange woody smell in room (unsure if it was some sort of air freshener to block the smell of garbage from the hall but was gross anyways) -hotel fire alarm went off for over an hour (this occurred before the check out time. We had wanted to check out as we found the "hotel" disgusting for the reasons stated above; however, after the evacuation was over from the fire alarm it was after 6pm which is apparently the deadline for checking out. The front staff were inflexible and rude (he blamed me for not checking out before 6, even though there had been a fire alarm and hotel evacuation ongoing since shortly after 5 and we had just returned from skiing before that). We checked out anyways and ended up driving back to Calgary because we couldn't spend another night in this dump and we were still charged 194.00 for it. Absolutely ridiculous. -this "hotel" also puts a massive authorization/hold of around 800.00 on your card to cover damages and other costs. Likely not even legal. Thankfully our final charge on the card was the cost of the room, but this was way too much $ for the experience (and we did not even stay the second night because it was so bad)! Wish I had taken more photos, but it was just so disgusting I couldn't spend any more time there. Read positive reviews with a critical eye. Most are likely written by hotel staff who are desperately trying to keep this "hotel" rated as a 4 star, when in reality it is not a hotel at all, and is definitely a 1 star, if any. Also note the hostile and aggressive tone of the "manager" who responds to customers valid complaints by passive aggressively blaming the customer, it is actually unreal. I will never stay here again and will caution all of my friends against it. I just feel bad for people who actually invested in this poorly run dump by purchasing property here. What a waste. We recently stayed at The Grande Rockies Resort in Canmore in June for 5 nights in a two bedroom suite. We booked directly with the hotel (this piece of information is important as there appear to be multiple management companies and AirBnbs within one resort!) My biggest regret is not reading the Google reviews before we booked! The website makes this place look fabulous, let me tell you it's the power of photo edits and marketing! We have a Toyota Sienna with a roof top carrier so I checked in advance if we would fit in the underground parking and we didn't but I wasn't to worried because the website lists a free surface parking lot for oversized vehicles. They don't actually have a surface parking lot!! Every single stall is reserved for their restraunt! We have two children under two and had to park extremely far away on the street! They do not have any staff to assist with luggage and their luggage carts all had flat tires. When we got into our two bedroom suite there was only one face cloth and not all the towels had been restocked. We asked for face clothes and were told there were none available at that time but when they were available they would be sent up, we were there 5 days and never received face clothes. There was only one robe in the entire suite (being a two bedroom I would expect 4 robes) the one Robe belonged to one of the other managment companies. I wore it over my bathing suite on our way to the pool on our second night to ask for more towels. Due to the logo on the front (paradise resorts) the front desk girl was rude and told me to call them. I explained that we were hotel guests and this was the only robe in the room. The girl put together a pile of our requested items and when I returned from the pool to collect them myself she pointed to a housekeeping cart and couldn't even get out of her seat and off her phone to pass me the items. The kitchen in our suite was extremely ill-equipped. There were no oven mitts (we discovered this when trying to remove our dinner from the hit oven) the knives were dull. There were mis matched dishes and items left from previous guests! The appliances are on their last legs! One of the reasons we booked this hotel was for in suite laundry (2 children under 2 make laundry essential) the washer is broken so even though I selected cold water wash it absolutely boiled my clothing! We have damaged or shrunk hundreds of dollars of clothing! The room was dusty, the furniture is worn out. The king size bed in our room was so collapsed on one side my husband couldn't sleep in it! The drapes had food stains! There was a huge nail sticking up from the door transition. Despite signage to use the in room safe to secure valuables, there was no safe in our room! The showers were disgusting, full of scum! They have these horrible tacky steam shower inserts and over half the functions didn't work! The tub wouldn't even hold water to bath my kids we had to constantly top it up! The front desk staff didn't go over the included amenities (such as a free national park pass) and couldn't even be bothered to provide the wifi password. The staff didn't seem to give a crap about guest experience. It's evident there is very little training invested into their staff! I contacted the management about my concerns prior to posting these reviews publicly in order to give the hotel a chance to rectify the experience. Unfortunately the attitude of not caring starts at the top with this place and the GM hasn't been bothered to get back to me other then to send me an email acknowledging he received my email 5 business days ago. Stay anywhere else, I don't know how this is considered a 4 star resort! Seriously run far far away from this place! The Grande Rockies Resort is a posh little ski resort/conference centre. I came here for a two-day private event, so I can speak meaningfully about the catering, conference venues and the suites. The scale and style of our event wasn't very well suited for the space, but the friendly staff went above and beyond to accommodate us as best they could. First, the catering for our wine and cheese night was decent. I really like the risotto balls and the selection of cheese. Breakfast was disappointing. The pastries were delicious, but we weren't served any protein. Could have been a budget issue... not sure what happened there. Lunch, however, made up for it with the generous spread of options. The rooms were very fancy. I had a full sized kitchen in my one bedroom suite. The bed was pretty comfy, linens were decorative in a good way. ... Alright. Let me address "the showers." "The showers" was the second biggest conversation topic, only beaten marginally by the topic of the conference itself. These showers were fascinating play-things. My shower had a seat with water jet massagers, a rainfall shower faucet from the ceiling along with a hand-held shower hose, blue lights, a mirror for you to look at yourself in the shower, a steamer, telephone, a sound system and a "FUN" button. Really? A FUN button? I stepped in and turned on the hose - regular shower. Then I tried pressing the "FUN" button to see what "fun" meant. Boring. It turns out it's a function button. I pressed a button and literally a waterfall of hot water came pouring down on me. Then suddenly the power jets started spraying my torso. I started screaming, and tried to turn them off, but then these foot jets started spraying. Once everything got settled a bit, I pressed the CD/FM button. The sound quality was as good as a car stereo system, although I didn't know how to change the channel so I was stuck listening to "Moves Like Jagger" and some old school stuff. Overall I really liked the service and amenities. The only problem I had was their glitchy WIFI which they knew about and were working to fix it. Will definitely come back if they offer another deal. $129/night for a fancy one bedroom suite? Not bad! 3/30 read more

I booked a room here for one night for m anniversary as a little getaway from Calgary. Walking in here it was a little confusing. The front desk is behind a wall so you can easily miss it when trying to check-in. The lady helping us was very friendly, but I think a little new as she had to ask her co-worker for assistance on how to process a booking from Expedia. Her co-worker was not so friendly. Almost so terrible that it seemed like we had ruined her day because we made our reservation through Expedia. When we checked in we changed the credit card from the one used to make the reservation. Neither credit card was charged for our stay. So...free room! Happy Anniversary to us. The room was nice and had a few extra comforts that you don't normally get in your average hotel room. It felt more like we were in a condo than a hotel room. There was a full kitchen, gas fireplace, steam shower, and separate bedroom. Unfortunately we quickly discovered that our room had not be prepared fully. We were missing towels, soap, and a few other little things. When I called housekeeping I was given a very short "What do you want us to bring you?" Never having stayed at the hotel before I wasn't sure what was supposed to be stocked in the room so I just asked them to bring us towels and hand soap. The things I knew we would need. We chose to stay here because the nightly rate with a groupon was very competitive relative to other accommodations in Canmore during a long weekend. We opted for a one bedroom king suite in the main building and it was just two of us staying there. The location is pretty good. They supply 1 indoor/underground parking stall per room. Being an older building, the bonus is that you are closer to the railroad crossing. Downtown, grocery stores, pubs, restaurants, bakeries, shopping and cafes are all within walking distance (10-15 minute jaunt). The room itself was a bit small but good enough for two. The room was not immaculately clean but generally tolerable. For example, a chair in the master bedroom had a super thick layer of dust on it. The sofa in the family room had some dust and crumbs. Bathroom was clean. We didn't open the pull out couch but I wouldn't want to sleep on it after finding all the crumbs etc. The suite came with a spa/steam shower and it worked nicely. There was a hair dryer and basic amenities like shampoo, conditioner and lotion. Kitchen and the included gas barbecue handled well. It came stocked with basics (pots, a pan, colander, plates, cutlery, cups, mugs, knives, peeler, salad bowl, wine opener, barbecue lighter, chopping board). Be sure to bring your own supplies (eg: potato masher, seasonings, special pans etc) just in case they are necessary for what you plan to cook. We didn't get a chance to try the swimming pool but it looked ok and good for families. We were also on the main floor backing onto a walking path. Was nicer than a balcony because you get more outdoor living space. Would I return? Maybe but likely only if the rates are competitive. Could hear everything above and beside us. A/C did not work and turning the thermostat down didn't make a difference in room temperature. Water pressure for hot water was horrible in kitchen. Would run smoothly for approximately 3 seconds before losing pressure and making a funny sound. I agree the front desk is confusing being hidden behind a wall... makes no sense for a welcoming atmosphere. Staff were average, one male in particular quite cold and made it feel like you were an inconvenience for him. Rooms are need maintenance - painting and furniture worn. We had high expectations for this resort based on pictures we had seen and previous experiences at similar places; need less to say very unimpressed. read more

Terrible. Don't do it. Entire first floor hallways stink like rotting garbage. The garbage bay is right off one hallway and it spreads. Door lock was broken when we arrived, hauled all our stuff up from parkade after long day of driving, only to be unable to get in room. Took a lot of back and forth to finally get it fixed. Opened pull-out bed in living room for my kids, and it was covered in cheezies and chip crumbs!!! Disgusting. Especially during Covid when cleaning should be even more of a priority. They were so grossed out they slept on the floor instead. For my trouble, I got about $60 knocked off my bill. Not worth it. We stayed here on mini mountain break. And actually, I have to echo what JC said, we stayed here for the price. Cheap and a king size bed, these things are good enough for me. Like the other reviewers said, the rooms are modern and fresh. We stayed in a room that I think was a boutique one as well, but didn't have a fireplace. Nice enough room, comfy bed, small balcony with a nice view. Would like to try it in the summer and sip some wine on that balcony while looking at the mountains. The hotel does have access to a swimming pool (which we didn't use) as well as a restaurant in house (which we also didn't use). The hotel is in easy walking distance from the action in Canmore, I think it was a 20 minute walk for us to the downtown restaurant we had reservations at. Check in and check out were a breeze and we didn't have any issues with parking. Over all, we'd be back. read more

Beware the "Annex" building. When booking this site I didn't realize the room was located in the annex building. If you intend to use the pool keep in mind this building is located 100ft+ away from the main building so you have to walk in your swimsuit from building to building. Luckily for us the weather was fair (10C) and no precipitation. There are no change rooms, no secure lockers so even if you wanted to bring a change of clothes you have to store them on one of the few (6 chairs) available in the pool area. The pool area felt run down and in need of maintenance and updating. Insulation in windows, missing outer doors for the hot tub and rust on the radiant heating covers throughout. The pool temperature in the main pool was a little cool for my wife and little girl. Too cool to really enjoy. Parking is also another issue. The stalls are extremely narrow. And the lot is just barely wide enough. If you have a truck or larger SUV good luck. The room was clean and well kept. The "mountain view" was a view overlooking the parking lot, the main building, utilities and then finally the mountains. Overall we feel the price of the room and the amenities we experienced really weren't worth it. We will look for a different place to stay in the future. read more

What a beautiful location. Mountains in every side and right off the highway within minutes of town. I booked the room not knowing that the room I got was not a suite. Many other reviewers were praising the deck, grill, and other amenities, but I only received a king sized room in their annex building which is not connected to the main building where the pool is. The front desk attendants were not overly friendly nor rude. The waiter in the restaurant was extremely nice and helpful. The rooms here were amazing! Gorgeous condo rooms with a full kitchen, a master bedroom with flat screen and ensuite, and a second bedroom and a main full bathroom. There was a manual for the shower - I know, right? Had tons of settings from rainfall to jet massagers for the feet and back. The staff were friendly all over the hotel, everyone greeted when passed. When the restaurant couldn't accommodate the group of 56 for dinner, the chef offered to call around and find a restaurant that could. We stayed at the Grande Rockies Resort Boutique Room because it was the cheapest place we could find. This wasn't a mini 'staycation' or romantic getaway, we just had to go to Canmore and this was cheap. The description from the website said there wasn't a TV in the room even. So we packed our stuff and made sure to bring the laptop and portable DVD player if we got bored. But the room descriptions must not have been updated, since the boutique rooms have been recently renovated. There certainly was a TV, there was a blu-ray player, there was a gas fireplace, there was a super comfortable bed. It was a great hotel room. Only downside was the shower didn't have enough pressure, which I can understand why a rain shower wouldn't be super high pressure but the regular shower wasn't powerful enough either. read more

Ricky at the front desk felt our pain when we complained about getting a room with a view of beer kegs rather than mountains, with no soap and in the last room of the annex (which was a construction site at the time). For a nominal additional cost he put us in room 101, which is a beautiful two bedroom with full kitchen and living room, worth more than we paid and right by the pool with slide, which was far and away the girls' favorite place to go in the entire two weeks we spent in Canada. Grande Kitchen and Bar. 4 of us dropped in for lunch. The food was outstanding. A new restaurant that is worth the drive from Calgary. We all had pasta and it was delicious and well presented. I would ask for bread so you can soak up the sauces that the pasta has. They had a good selection of beer on draft as well. read more

I've not stayed at the Grande Rockies twice and I have to say I'm relatively impressed with this place! The rooms are lovely, they are very up to date including up to date appliances. The rooms are big and there is a lot of space for multiple people in each of the rooms. The staff are very friendly and the amenities are pretty good as well. My only concern is that the elevator was broken while we were there and it was not fixed the entire time we stayed. Other than that this is a great place to stay if you are skiing or hiking in the mountains or if you just want to spend some time in Canmore! read more

This hotel messed up our original reservation, put us in a new room that wasn't cleaned (or already occupied, we weren't sure), and "upgraded" us to yet another room. The maintenance and house keeping staff were very unfriendly and all of the cleaning rooms were visible. The doors to those rooms were open at any time we walked down the hall. The walk to our room was like going through an endless maze, with creepy hallways!! The parking garage was unnecessarily complicated to find and navigate through. The hotel's restaurant and bar were both NOT open, which was inconvenient. This "resort" will be our LAST resort next time we stay in Canmore. read more

We stayed here while in Canmore for the 2013 RMSC Women's Run, and LOVED the hotel. Staff were friendly and accommodating, the hotel itself was beautiful and well appointed. We (myself and three other ladies) shared a two-bedroom, two-bathroom room. The beds were comfortable - which was really important to me the night before a big run. Michael and I arrived at the Grande Rockies Resort pretty hyped; it was a surprise birthday present for Michael and a much needed break for me. We were in good spirits, weather seemed promising and Canmore/Banff had winter festivals on during the getaway weekend; feb 8-10th. We arrived early and were going to be allowed to have our room early. That, however, is when it went wrong. I had requested a fridge at reservation time - something I must have when traveling. When we were told there was not a fridge we were given attitude by front desk staff. We were then lectured about general hotel practice; rarely accommodating requests or having fridges available. Apparently this staff member doesn't travel. She told us that we could speak to management but that the management was aware "that I'm a good employee so it won't make any difference". We chose, instead, to phone around for other lodging. While attempting to make last minute arrangements manager "Teri Lynn" (spelling?) came to our rescue. She apologized, explained that they had limited fridges then offered to move a fridge into out room. We decided to give the place a chance. While working to make our consideration happen the manager left and we talked between ourselves. The same desk staff came over and proceeded to lecture us on etiquette when greeting hotel staff; what to say and how!! We were stunned! Consequently we kept looking for alternative accommodation. The manager found us a fridge, charged us $15/night for it but seemed genuinely wanting to support our stay. We went to the room; facing the highway, and ran my shin smack into part of the metal frame of our bed. We tried to move the box spring while my shin bled. No luck. We called maintenance and someone came to cover the large metal prongs sticking out. I'll remind you here, dear reader, that I've had better motel 8s. From here our fridge leaked for two days until we realized all the ice was gone and our carpets were soaked. Instead of moving it out and addressing the soaked floor the management had maintenance move it to an outlet that apparently worked. Because we had requested it be moved and knowing how much effort this was in the beginning we had relocated cold stuff into the snow on the tiny balcony. The pool was decent though at no point was it "adult" time, even late, so it was very loud and busy. The children even used the outdoor section of the hot tub as a swimming pool and place for hide and seek. The shower in the room was lovely but the second day they forgot (?) to service our room and we had no shampoo or clean/dry towels. Terilyn was polite, professional and seemed to want to make our weekend enjoyable and we appreciated her effort. We will not be returning and will not be recommending this accommodation to others because the hotel staff, overall, don't care whether your their or not. read more

First off, this is a very nice place convienient and great location and the girls on the front desk PHONE were awesome! However the trip started off pretty poorly. I arrived after a long snowy drive by myself around 9:30pm right to the big front entrance the said "Grande Rockies" and the place that matched the address hotels.com gave me. I go in and say I'm here to check in and state my name. The woman working was SOOOOO unfriendly and made for a horrible night. She says "no I don't think you are" I said "but I have a reservation for this hotel on my phone" and tried to hand her my phone. I'm not sure why but she wouldn't look or listen to me and told me I was probably staying just around the corner at sun peaks something resort. I was confused and so I drove to where she told me, where a much more friendly gentleman tried to help me and looked at my phone and reservation and sent me back to the original girl after looking and seeing yes I was meant to be where I originally was. I go back in and say to her " are you affiliated with the resort you just sent me to?" She said "no but I have no more reservations for the night" so I replied to her "well why would you send me there when I'm just trying to explain to you that according to my pone and email I have a reservation at the hotel with it's name on THIS front door" and I showed her my phone. She replied "OHHHHHH yes you are staying at our "summit" section of the resort which has no front desk" so I replied " ok well how do I check in?" She replied "you should of been sent an email" .... now I'm frustrated why isn't she helping me!?!? "I said well I don't have one what do I do?" She said "their front desk is call centre only and closes at 10pm" which was about 10 minutes away, so I start panicking I have important work to do because my conferences start the next morning and so on. She never offered the number or anything to me so I just said "okay I'll figure it out" and I left. THE FUNNIEST part of all of this is that once finding a number and calling the very nice girls on the phone they got me right in and I was LITERALLY 30 feet away front that woman sitting at her front desk in the same building. Literally around the corner and a 45 second walk down the hall so it is BAFFLING to me she could and didn't and wouldn't help me figure that out. Once in the room the wifi password provided did not work and because it was after 10pm my call centre front desk was closed and so I had to use my tiny cell phone and my own data to do all of my work that night, because there was NO WAY I was walking down the hall to ask that woman for any other help!!! I'm the morning the girls on the phone helped me with the wifi by providing me a new password. That woman though had the potential to RUIN my entire business trip and cause me a lot of trouble, made what could of been otherwise a fantastic trip pretty crappy from the get go. read more

The place in general may look fine, but the service was horrible. My family and I stayed there for 6 days and not once were the bedsheets replaced. We know this because there was a black mark on the sheets the first day we were there and continued to be there until the last night. They just remade the bed with the same sheets making us think that the sheets were new. I went up to the front desk and asked why the sheets were not replaced for the 6 days we were at the resort. The front desk apologized and called housekeeping and the housekeeping workers simply asked, "How many days were they here?" Unbelievable. Along with the bed sheets, the bathrooms were unsatisfactory as well. There was a wet washcloth inside the shower and they did not clean it up or the inside of the shower area. Also, they would skip days on emptying the trash and putting new trash bags inside the trash cans. Housekeeping did a horrible job at everything. They did not clean the floors and you could physically see the dust on the floors and on all the tabletops. If I am paying to sleep at the facility, I would like it to be a clean one. Very very dissatisfied with the service they provided. At first, I was going to come back with my niece because of the children friendly vibe, but after what I have experienced, I will never be coming back here. I booked with the Grand Rockies through the Facebook advertisement. We had been interested in trying this hotel as we have stayed at Solara before and been happy with it and it has a kids pool. I was taken directly to the booking page and booked the non refundable sale for April 8-10. Only after my trip was confirmed and paid for did I receive notice that the pool would be closed for the time we were there. As the sale was non refundable this piece of information should have been disclosed prior to my booking as we would have come the following week. I tried calling Guest Services 4 times and left voicemails throughout the 10 days leading up to our stay and no one ever phoned me back. Upon check-in I mentioned my complaints and a note was left for the manager Guilano to follow up the following day. We did finally end up receiving a free Family pass to Elevation Place which was appreciated. However, it was ridiculous that it took so much effort on my part to have the inconvenience resolved. In regards to the room it self. I did book a basic 2 bedroom with the sale. However, seeing as it was a Sunday/ Monday night stay, the inconvenience of having no pool available and the horrendous customer service we had already received; I expected to at least have a nice room. Instead we were given one of the worst rooms in the hotel. It faced directly on the ground floor to the parkade ramp. This left very little privacy (especially when I was breastfeeding my baby) and it was noisy. On the Monday afternoon there was construction happening in a suite down the hall which was not mentioned at check-in and was very disruptive to my kids' afternoon nap. The kitchen was half stocked, there wasn't even oven gloves to use to take items out of the hot oven. The paint was peeling off the walls in the master bedroom. I expected a higher standard of accommodation from Bellstar based on other hotels we have stayed in and was greatly disappointed. read more

Turns out everything in Banff was packed the summer week I was visiting so I opted for the next best option in Canmore. While I was there only a few nights I was told they suffered severely during the summer floods and haven't been able to get back to speed just yet. Only one of the elevators was working and that was the one @ the far end so it was somewhat irritating but not a deal breaker. The bath sink had an air pocket and wouldn't drain properly. Small stuff but irritating. Their kitchen and laundry were definitely appreciated. As was the grill on the balcony. I thought the shower control panel was cool but the novelty wears off after a while. The boys loved the slide @ the pool, they have a supersized kiddie area too. The location isn't too bad with a bunch of mom & pop food choices across the street. I wouldn't mind going back but I doubt I ever will read more

Let me begin by stating the good things about this hotel because they should be noted before I begin my review on the horrible customer service we experienced. This hotel was clean, the room was spacious, the shower had so many options that you needed a manual to figure it out and it was quiet. Now, for the long list of reasons this hotel deserves an award for absolutely terrible service. When we arrived the front desk informed us that there would be no water to the building the next day. Our plan was to relax in our room for the day so this put a damper on our plans to use the high tech shower and kitchen facilities. We asked to speak to manager, who said that we could change hotels if we wanted to. I was unable to find a hotel with similar amenities in the same price point and being on a budget we simply didn't have the funds to move to a more expensive hotel, so we stayed. I asked him about compensation and he said he would get back to me, which he never did. I would have expected there to be a plan put in place where the hotel had contacted another hotel to arrange accommodations at a similar price for guests who wanted to move or some sort of compensation for those who wanted to stay (free breakfast or a credit), but no such plan existed. Our stay was relatively okay considering we were unable to flush the toilet, wash our hands (thank god for hand sanitizer), dishes, or shower. When we went to check out, I asked to speak with the manager again to see if anything had been arranged because, as I said, nobody had gotten back to me. I was informed by the front desk agent that there would be no compensation given as the water outage was an emergency, so I asked to speak to the manager again. I stood in the lobby waiting for the manager to come down. When she did, she walked right by me and went behind the front desk without saying a word to me and started using the computer. I thought maybe she was looking up our file and would come out to speak to me after she assessed the situation. Ten minutes passed before she looked over at me and says "can I help you?". (Are you serious? I've been standing here waiting for you to talk to me. The reason you're down here is to talk to me so come over and introduce yourself). I explained the situation to her as she nodded incessantly and clicked her mouse on the computer screen in front of her. She made excuses and apologized once or twice without sincerity. There wasn't a point in our conversation that I believed that she genuinely cared about my concerns or about providing adequate customer service. I was basically told that because it was an emergency outage the hotel didn't feel like they had to provide their guests with anything, which makes no sense. I don't care if it's an emergency or not, you aren't making people feel good about staying with you. Anyway, nothing came of my conversation with the managers that obviously need to attend a Customer Service 101 course. read more

4.5 stars. I was a little nervous about booking this place for our honeymoon after reading some negative reviews but I am so glad we booked at the Grande Rockies Resort. We booked a one-bedroom king suite with a mountain view and it was worth every penny. The suite is actually like an apartment with a fully equipped kitchen, fireplace, washer/dryer, your own wi-fi network in your suite, and bathroom with a spa shower. The kitchen has a stone floor and there is hardwood flooring throughout the rest of the suite. The view from our bedroom and balcony was stunning, and it was nice to drink coffee next to the fireplace and look out on the mountains every morning. Important: if you plan on doing your own cooking, make sure to bring or buy basic things like cooking oil and spices. The kitchen comes with a couple bags of tea, sugar, and coffee, but nothing else in terms of ingredients. They do have utensils, dinnerware, and cooking equipment (ladles, spatulas, pots and sauce pans of varying sizes, frying pan, chef's knife, bread knife, and cutting board). Dishwasher tablets, mini sponge and dish detergent, and laundry detergent (powder) is also provided. No dryer sheets. Pros: 1) Easy check-in with friendly staff who explained the apartment/wi-fi/garage gate passcode 2) Fully functional kitchen (Safeway is just a couple minutes away so you can cook meals in your suite to save $$) 3) Beautiful views 4) Pool (great for kids), indoor/outdoor hot tub 5) Updated and clean suite with plenty of closet space 6) Nice spa shower (no bathtub) Cons: 1) Housekeeping was generally great (they come in and tidy up the suite but don't do a full cleaning every day; a full cleaning is an extra charge) but it varies day-to-day with the housekeeper assigned to your room: e.g. sometimes we would get a refill on the coffee but not on other days, sometimes the housekeeper would run the dishwasher for us but other days the housekeeper just left the kitchen as is and didn't touch anything 2) The elevator from the garage (under the main building) took FOREVER and was broken for 1.5 days while we were there. We were on the 2nd floor so we just took the stairs, but I could see this getting very frustrating for people with lots of gear or who aren't able to take several flights of stairs. 3) The leather sofas in the living room were beautiful but SO UNCOMFORTABLE. It felt like sitting in a church pew with a high back. 4) Some of the cooking equipment, specifically the frying pans, need to be upgraded. 5) PLEASE UPGRADE YOUR TOILET PAPER. read more

bought a living social deal online to stay here for a wedding we were going to in the area. really loved the look of our boutique room upon first glance but some things became more apparent over our 2 day stay. The linens such as the bath matt were worn out, thread bare and looked like they were fit for the trash, there were also rips and tears in our bedsheets and pillow cases, and upon closer inpection they were worn out and ready for the trash as well. there were no soaps, shampoos etc in our room when we checked in, when i called the housekeeping line noone awnsered and i had to go out in the halls to find someone when we heard they going by to get those items. They questioned me as well saying it was very strange they weren't there like i was crazy or trying to get more to pocket them. I just wanted to be able to wash my hands after using the toilet. Our room had a keurig coffee maker but no kcups to use, so no coffee in the morning. The sink had a giant crack in the center. The house keeping staff never came in the next day to freshen up our room or change towels etc, we had no dry towels the second day. The rooms smelled musty the whole time. When i made my reservation over the phone i inquired as to what the deal would include as we had our kids coming and the original deal was for 2 people, they told us it would include our kids meals as well. When we went to sit down and order at the restaurant the next day the waiter argued with us that the meal deals never include more than 2 meals and we are mistaken, so we ordered and quietly planned to take it up with the front desk upon check out. We found the waiter to be rude as well and the menu options limited and very small portions. We went and used the pool and it was amazing, i will say that, great for our kids, a touch too cold but so much fun with a kids pool too, the hotub has an outdoor portion which was interesting since it was so cold out so it was refreshing to go out there with the snow falling on you, however it was close to 10am and there were discarded jello shots and bandaids all around the deck outside which was gross, they should have had it cleaned before opening the pool in the morning in my opinion. Also our room was in a seperate building so we had to dress to go to the pool, then disrobe in thier tiny family bathroom next to the pool and then get redressed just to go across the street after the pool....it was -10 degrees so it was nessessary to dress and not just go in our robes outside. The pool also had sandy residue on the bottom, not sure where that came from. Upon check out the hotel redeemed themselves with the meal confusion and reinbursed us and they were very polite, apologetic and proffessional about it so i was really pleased with that outcome. Overall i would say for the money it was only so so, but most of the staff was kind when i had dealings with them and helpful. I would only recommend staying here if you can get a deal like we did because at full price these snafoo's would be unforgivable. read more

Horrible experience, the staff, including the "manager", was very condescending and unprofessional. The resort had a pipe leakage of some sort, which is okay, my family and I were very understanding that things go wrong, however they handled the situation very poorly. We were a large family of 8 with people visiting from California, Edmonton, and Calgary and unfortunately got split up due to the leakage. They relocated half of our family to another hotel and told us there was no room at the other hotel (Solara) to accommodate the rest of us, which was not true. We went there ourselves the next day and Solara accommodated us right away. Grande Rockies also told us that they refunded the deposit for the room that had to leave, when in fact they charged them twice! If we did not check our bank statements before we all went home we would not have known. Also, when we called the front desk for a question they responded on the phone with so much attitude and were extremely impolite, as if we caused their pipe to burst and ruined their family get together. I travel a lot and have stayed in many hotels and this was by far the worst experience ever. My family and I felt very unwelcome, I would not recommend this place to anyone. The staff is not well equipped to deal with tough situations at all and they come off rude, unprepared, unsympathetic, and unemotional. read more
