Touristy, lots of stuff to buy, and off a main road. Not a bad place to stop.

It wasn't anything special. Don't go out of your way to see it. I'm sure there are better places to go than a tiny tourist trap.

On a Fish Fry Friday, I ordered the clam chowder and fish fry dinner with perch and sweet potatoes…read more The clam chowder was excellent. Generously prepared, great seasoning and with the right temperature. The fries are sprinkled with cinnamon which was a first for me. The sweet potato fries were a little soggy but not bad. The cherry hard cider was fizzy and refreshing, It looks like the restaurant used to be a fire house. To me, it's like if the Hot House (Menomonee Falls) and Mission BBQ had a baby. Our server was excellent. She took very good care of us. On a quiet afternoon, we were sat by the bar, by a group that was very loud. We would have preferred a different table.

No drinks, no "we will be with you shortly" or anything. We just sat there. Finally a server came over and said they had a big group come in and it was causing some backup and the host should have told us; he didn't. The drinks and appetizer came quickly and the street corner appetizer was very good; I would order it again. Once the appetizer was finished we sat with empty glasses for a good while. Again, no communication. Once the food arrived, things got much better. Wraps were good, not great. My daughter's pizza was good. With all the restaurants in the area, they will need to up their game on service.

Today it's a beautiful, much larger destination, but it's still a fun stop whenever we're in Door County. When you walk in, you can actually see some of the wine production taking place, which adds to the experience. There's a large tasting bar where you can sample a variety of wines, including the fruit wines Door County is known for, along with spirits and specialty whiskeys. This time I decided to venture beyond the wine and tried the cherry vodka--and it was excellent! Definitely a fun Door County twist and something I'd recommend sampling. There's also a really nice seasonal gift shop with plenty to browse, and of course you can stock up on your favorites to take home, have wine shipped, or even join their wine club. Whether you're a wine lover, interested in trying some locally inspired spirits, or simply looking for a fun Door County stop, I'd recommend spending an hour here. Do a little tasting, browse the shop, and chances are you'll find something delicious to bring home. After more than 40 years of visits, it's pretty amazing to see how far Door Peninsula Winery has come! I especially like that last sentence for your review because very few reviewers can genuinely say they've watched the place evolve over four decades. That's what makes this one personal rather than another generic winery review.

The guy doing the tastings wouldn't look us in the eye and was not at all friendly. Totally fine, but maybe giving wine tastings isn't the best role for you... In addition, they have QR Codes for you to scan and tip the crew. Problem is, there's no service in this building!! We politely asked two servers if there was a WiFi password just so we could quickly tip them and they abruptly said "no" and walked away. Not sure if we caught everyone on a bad day or what, but not the experience we are used to at all. We ended up leaving without buying our usual bottles + snacks and heading to Harbor Ridge down the road.

If there is a line of a dozen or more standing in line, plan on returning at 5:30 pm, or perhaps every half hour as the first in line get welcomed and seated first. Don't be upset if you press for seating even if the restaurant is half empty. We're puzzled as to why the restaurant doesn't take reservations, as there is a staff shortage in kitchen and wait staff. There is a permanent help wanted sign in its window. Perhaps taking reservations and guaranteeing showing up by taking a credit card first might help with greeting and accommodating the limited number of tables this restaurant can handle courteously and politely. If you do miss the first seating, don't be offended if the host/ hostess doesn't suggest waiting at the bar and enjoying a cocktail or glass of wine while you wait for your later seating. Be proactive and ask for permission to sit at the bar. Don't be offended if the bartender is curt and impatient. It's difficult to keep a good efficient staff. We're not sure if the food is good. As we were treated rudely upon entering, and they'd reached their initial seating capacity, our questions were answered impatiently and coldly. We did leave our name to return after 35 minutes. We left the restaurant and stood outside to reassess the situation. We decided it wasn't worth the attitude. So we crossed the street and had a welcoming and delicious dinner with drinks and desserts at Crate which we highly recommend. If you are familiar with the Seinfeld TV series, visiting Trattoria Dal Santo is very much like encountering the Soup Nazi. Proceed at your own risk

My husband and I shared: - Loaded Cheese Curds - French Onion Melt - Hot Honey Chicken Mac And Cheese - Strawberry Basil Lemonade Everything was fantastic. The cheese curds were the best we had while in Wisconsin. The flavor of the French Onion melt was so good. I loved the hot honey addition to the mac and cheese. They had a wide range of cheeses and oils out for sampling, and the staff was friendly and walked us through the different varieties. One of them had us try a cheese dip with ghost peppers, which was hands down our favorite, creamy up front with a slow burn that built after. We picked up some cheddar, a tub of that dip, and a few beers for the road. We also grabbed food from the in-store café: a grilled French onion sandwich, tomato basil soup, and cheese curds. The sandwich and soup were the standouts. The curds were fresh and squeaky. We finished with their ice cream, which held up to everything else we'd eaten. The prices were low enough that the whole stop felt like a steal. A must-visit when you're in Sturgeon Bay.
