Drove past this place dozens of times, just did not see it!! Located in a WWI quasant hut that help POWs located near the airport, then moved to its current Location in the 1950s. Quant, simple food but excellent taste. FRENCH FRIES WITHOUT SKINS....a personal favorite! Very little or no seasoning which was perfect for my low sodium diet! We will be back. The restaurant is under new owners now and is called Rapids Cafe . I have gone there just about everyday since their opening and at first it was a good spot to visit and now the waitress that works there has made the place unwelcoming. Charging too much for items , not giving back the right amount of change. But what turned me against going back to the place is this waitress started loudly speaking about an elderly man who comes to this place regularly. Stating that he should sit closer to the door. Granted this place has no waiting to be seated. You can sit anywhere . But to rudely complain out loud in a place where you work not own is a poor excuse of a human being. When roadtripping, the rule is "No chain restaurants except for the occasional Culvers for the Flavor of the Day". This little cafe is definitely one of a kind. We met the current Grandma. I say Current because this little business was started by her parents decades ago. The cafe is housed in a quonset hut and has many family and community photos on the walls. A bar runs along one side so that individuals can eat at the counter seated on stools. Ten or twelve tables takes care of everyone else. Grandma brought us a menu, and I was immediately struck by the prices. They looked like pre-covid and pre-crazy-inflation prices to me. When our food was brought to the table, I still felt like I received a lot of value for the money. My sis got the regular 2-egg over easy breakfast with hash browns. My Grandpa Omelette was wonderful, with the grilled home fries cooked into the omelette along with bacon, swiss cheese, and onions. It was delicious. The thick-sliced toast was made from homemade bread. Yum!!! My sis-in-law grew up in Wisconsin, and I'm a Southerner. When she heard someone at the bar mention Rhubarb Crisp, she had to order that for me to try. It was a homemade rhubarb custard pie with a toasted sugar crumble on top, very tart and sweet at the same time. The rhubarb aficionado though it was wonderful. This was a great stop on our no-chain-restaurant road trip! read more

Does this count as a visit to your Grandma's House? It should! Besides this little place being in hut, it totally feels like I am sitting in someone's (Grandmas) house having a meal. The food is good, fast and cheap. I love finding places like this on Yelp! The walls are filled with family pictures. Grandchildren from young to old. Old military pictures and some of the same trinkets that sat around my grandmothers house. Only weird experience was in the parking lot when an old lady came running out of the Laundromat next door to tell me how bad her day was going.... And then to ask for some money. How often can you have breakfast in a Quonset Hut? Really! It was moved to its current location from Camp Douglas. The food is your typical breakfast, eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes, and more. The food is excellent, service is friendly and prices so low that you almost feel it's a crime to pay so little for such a good breakfast. If your in the area it's worth the trip for a great breakfast and as bonus you could tell your friends that you ate in a Quonset Hut too! read more

This tiny little place was recommended by a local.... have to say I had one of the best omelette ever and even the toast was buttered appropriately and delicious! We had a little of everything including pancakes that were light and fluffy and sausage that tasted farm raised. Next time I'm trying a burger for lunch. Cheap eats in a diner inside an old World War 2 "Quonset hut" (per Wikipedia a lightweight prefabricated structure of corrugated galvanized steel having a semicircular cross section. The design was based on the Nissen hut developed by the British during World War I)/ Think of building a house out of a super huge drainage pipe. We got our food faster than a person could get food from a fast food restaurant! Expect to get full for under $6 - comfort food is whats on the menu. Nice little place very cozy makes me feel like I'm really at grandmas house with all the family pictures on the walls. The coffee is great food is good really tastes like home cookin. This little cafe is great if you're looking for basic food for reasonable prices. I had the Grandma Burger, which was topped with mushrooms, fried onions and swiss cheese, and it was very tasty. The burger was on the smaller side, which I actually like since so many places serve only ridiculously huge burgers that I can never finish. My wife had the pea soup which seemed to be made from scratch, and a reuben sandwich. She enjoyed both. According to the menu, they have potato pancakes on Wednesday, and biscuits and gravy on Thursday, both while supplies last. I plan on going back to try them out. Note that they are only open for breakfast and lunch. They only take cash, so if your wallet is empty, stop at the BP station down the road for an ATM or the IGA across the street (where you can get debit cash back with any purchase). read more

grandma's usa cafe is about as down home food as you want. Great service and great food in a cosy place. If you are lucky you will get to meet Grandma Lois. still baking the pies there. Great specials everyday other than weekend. the baked chicken on thurs is to die for. just like what grandma served you. The potato pancakes are huge and tasty on Weds. Grandma's is the real deal. Simple, good food just like Grandma would fix you if you were at her home!! What I can not believe is they fix a really good Eggs Benedict. Just did not expect this item on a menu in a Quesant Hut. Also love the "Great Granny" an omelet with everything in it. If you are lucky enough to visit with Grandma puts homemade jelly out.......OMG!!! Killer stuff. Staff is always friendly, and keeps the coffee coming. They ONLY except CASH, no credit or debit cards, so go with that in mind. With a nice tip breakfast is not more the $24.00 for two, and it is more like brunch because you don't need lunch. read more
