No pita cheese sticks on the menu (strike one -this is why I really wanted to come here); the cheese curd appetizer (ball one- the breading was a bit heavy and didn't have great flavor but the curds inside were flavorful and fried to perfection only one blown out curd in the batch); the cowboy burger (strike 2 - while the flavors of the sauces an heat of the spices were tasty and the onion rings were very good, all that was undone with a dry well done burger patty that was ordered medium rare); and they got a hit with $2.00 diet cokes on the gun at the bar. Been here before, but it's been awhile. Thought we would give it another try... I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was excellent....to a point. The pork was not at all hot, just room temperature. I chose regular BBQ sauce and it tasted like my favorite...sweet baby Rsys!! Yum, except it came in a little plastic covered container, straight from the REFRIGERATOR!! needless to say ot was very cold, added to the room temperature sandwich. Hmmm, not a great presentation! Prices are more 3-4$$, rather than the 2-3$$ value. Plenty of parking and a great outdoor venue for entertainment. Restrooms are clean...but the place really needs some soft, sound absorbing materials as it is very noisy. One of my favorites places to go for an amazing Bloody Mary and a delicious meal when I am in the area. Plenty of parking and a beautiful, clean, open environment. On this visit we stopped for lunch. Our waitress greeted us immediately upon seating and was very attentive throughout. I ordered a Bloody Mary that came with my choice of vodka-I like it spicy so I chose habañero. Wow, what a flavorful bloody! Plenty of toppings and a delicious mix. We couldn't decide on what to eat so we ordered a bunch of apps to share. The carne asada nachos are to die for! Wonderfully tender seasoned beef, with ample cheese and toppings. The soft pretzel came out piping hot with plenty of nacho cheese for dipping. The wings were crispy and cooked to perfection, with your choice of sauces for dipping. All in all a delicious meal. Can't wait to come back for more! read more

Whenever we have a rainy day at the camper we head to Hoozels for their fantastic drinks. Especially the Bloody Mary and old fashion with the cinnamon sucker. Everyone is very friendly and makes sure to seat us promptly. We love the rustic cabin feel of being up North. Makes it a very enjoyable place to eat. Their BBQ sauce is so delicious like to have it on my pulled pork sandwich. Always my number one choice my meal. Next rainy day we will find ourselves back at Hoozels. Highly recommend. read more

The food and service were both pretty close to terrible. I ordered a smash burger with just pickles and fried onions and I ended up with a regular burger with lettuce, tomato and burnt onions (I mean the onions were completely burnt!). I ended up just picking everything off and eating about half the burger. Bartenders were less than helpful and we were sitting at the bar. Just a poor overall experience. read more

Four of us our 1st time there. Beautiful building. Comfortable and clean. We are Seniors and we all were disappointed. I had the Pork Tacos, no sides of sour cream or salsa(a must have) red sauce was on top, tasted like ketschup!! Not pleased. Hubby had a Burger. Bacon, cheesecurds. Had an off taste as I tried it also. Friend got Steak sandwich had lots of grizzle, tough, and not so good. Another friend had Chicken Wrap, kinda boring not the best. Their Vodka Sours, first ones SERIOUSLY green liquid...Mellow Yellow?? Second ones were normal. Our young Waiter very attentive, but it was not at all busy. Being the Foodie I am" taste, Presentation is huge! Prices seemed high as more coin to order sides. Not planning a return anytime soon. However a few hints to make it better. Good Luck in the future. Today was our first visit and if first impressions are any indication , to steal a quote from Casablanca; "Louis, I believe this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." (Typed in my best "Rick"/Humphrey Bogart voice) Being Friday in Wisconsin, it's the law that restaurants have a mandated Fish Fry. My lovely bride ever the rebel instead ordered the Caprese Chicken Wrap, while I ordered the recommended Parmesan crusted white fish with wild rice to not run afoul of the Fish Fry ordinances. According to my wife, the wrap was one of the best she's had and the homemade chips sealed the deal. My Parmesan encrusted white fish was cooked to perfection. The fish had excellent presentation, taste and texture and the rice was the perfect side for a summer meal for a lighter fare. The servings were plentiful! My bride took half of her wrap home, while I finished mine sadly not leaving room for desert. Our server was always attentive and never rushed us and even told us to take our time. The experience was so delightful that I asked for a copy of their menu, so when we have visitors the can choose from the collection of restaurant menus from places we truly like when choosing a place to dine out. read more

Hoozels at The Lakes was absolutely wonderful. Inside, the place is beautiful! They did such a nice job remodeling from The Trails End and I'm excited to see what they end up doing with the basement! Our server, Savanah, was really nice and prompt when drinks were empty! The beer was cold and the old fashioned was decent. There was a cinnamon stick in the old fashioned and it truly wasn't my style but that's okay. The place was busy which was really nice to see. The food was GREAT - mostly bar food with some fun twists! I had a pizza, which had great thin crust and awesome flavor. My boyfriend ate the Wisconsin burger and loved everything about it. The burger was juicy and packed with cheese curds which is everything you need in a good Wisconsin burger!! (; And after we were able to play darts which was SO FUN! Well my wife and I were out and about for the day and I had heard this place had decent food and solid drinks. When we walked in right away I was very impressed with the atmosphere. The place was very cool inside and they had football on one TV and the Ryder Cup on the other so I was content. I ordered a bloody mary, which it looked like almost every other person at the bar had, and my wife got an old fashioned. All I can say about the drinks is that I would come back just for those, and this place is almost an hour from our camper. Their bloodies are loaded with all sorts of snacks and my wife's old fashioned even had a cinnamon sucker in it. My wife new right off the bat that she was having their pulled pork sandwich and I asked the waitress for a recommendation and she suggested the shrimp tacos. We both absolutely loved our food and would be hard pressed to order anything else when we return and yes we will return! We also shared an order of their seasoned fries which were really good too. The only thing I will warn about this place is that even though it says "At the Lakes" in the name, there are no lakes to be seen from here. We were hoping for some lakeside dining on this beautiful fall day so were a tad disappointed when there was no lake, I mean come on, it is right in the name?? But lakeside dining or not, we cannot wait to come back to this place. And I might just be talked into trying something else on their menu because so much of it looked great! read more

Stopped by Hoozels for the first time on our way back from spending the day on the lake. Place smelled very musty that the very first thing I noticed when we walked through the door. It looked nice and nice "woodsy" decor. Service was very good, the deep fried appetizer basket was good. My daughter loves bloody's and said that was very good. I had an order of the wings for $13 and got a dozen. They were the smallest wings I've ever gotten at a pub/eatery, I wish I had taken a pic to post. Daughter had a gyro and liked it. Granddaughter got was advertised as a smash burger and it resembled nothing like a smashburger and was thick and dry. If we go back we will try the pizza, the folks next to us got that and it looked very good. With a few tweaks this could have been good. Was certainly not worth the $120 we paid for it. read more

Wonderful experience! After growing up with Trails End since the 1980's, Hoozels is an entirely different experience, and definitely in a good way. Not that there was anything wrong with Trails End, but Hoozels has taken the good ole days of Trails End to a whole new level in terms of the food. We were there the first week of August. The service was good, and the staff was very family friendly. I believe the manager herself even delivered our food to the table- very nice lady. The cheese curds were some of the best beer battered curds (if not the best) I've ever had in my life. They were very similar to the curds at Monk's Bar in Wisconsin Dells. The curds were worth the price of admission in and of itself, not to mention the 12 inch baked pretzel with nacho cheese sauce. Yes, you read that correctly- a 12 inch baked pretzel with nacho cheese sauce! And it was absolutely delicious. What I liked about it the most was that it wasn't overly salted. Too many other places over salt their pretzels which takes away from the goodness of the actual pretzel. Thankfully, Hoozels doesn't make this mistake. They got it right, much like they did with their chorizo nachos served with shredded cheese and pico de gallo. And speaking of getting it right, the Hoozel Burger hits it not just out of the ballpark, but totally out of the ballpark. It's a 1/3 pound beef patty served on a garlic buttered pretzel bun. I ordered mine with American cheese and grilled onions, and it's one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. And I don't just throw that phrase around lightly because I grew up in a city famous for its burgers, so it's not like I don't have any other burger places to compare Hoozels with. I do. And I'm telling ya- give Hoozels burger a try. I promise you will not be disappointed. The best feature of their burger is that it was perfectly grilled- it wasn't too well done and it wasn't rare. It was perfect just the way it was which is a tribute to whoever they've got back their in the kitchen making the food. And serving it on their signature garlic buttered pretzel bun was simply outstanding. It was the best burger I've had in years. There are few things better in life than a good old fashioned burger on a garlic buttered pretzel bun with beer battered cheese curds and a glass of Spotted Cow with family and friends. Good times- and very good times at that. Congratulations to Hoozels for getting everything right on a multitude of levels from the food, to the service, and to simply being family/kid friendly. Awful food! We ordered a cheese curd appetizer and it came to the table in this small cup. We took the order out of the cup to find curd dripping in oil and the breading falling off. Then the food came. My wife and son had a burger which was tasteless. I ordered a pizza which might have been the worst pizza we ever had. The crust still has a doughy taste to it and the cheese was barely melted. This is our second experience here. The first time the food was better but the place was so loud you couldn't even talk to the person next to you. Given the two bad experiences we've had we won't be back which is a shame because there are not a lot of places to choose from in Nekoosa. read more

Very disappointing. Slow service. We ordered two Chicago-style hot dogs with a shared order of fries. The fries were served with just one of the hot dogs. The hot dogs had the potential of being good, but were served at room temperature, as were the fries. The server never came by to ask about how our order was, and didn't bring a check as we sat for a long time after finishing. Maybe the place has potential, but I doubt we'll come back. Ordered 2 burgers, a gluten free burger, all of them were burnt, and a gyro. Did not get the gluten free bun although we were charged extra for it, or the gyro. Waited another 20 minutes for the gyro, but they never did make it. Will not eat there again. read more
