I stopped here for breakfast while in town to start my day. The place is kind of small with a black and white theme with booths and tables in the back room. I wasn't super hungry so I ordered the Denver omelette with Texas toast. My omelette looked pretty whimpy and flat as far as omelettes go so the filling was going to be skimpy. My Texas toast didn't look like Texas toast and more like plain white bread. The Denver omelette looked strange because the ham was tiny pieces like ground/shaved ham and not diced ham at all. The omelette was barely as tall my slice of bread and pathetic as far as omelettes go. Simple old time diner style. We had the Denver omelet. We were not all that impressed with the Denver omelet. Stuffed to full and everything was diced reality. Country fries were barely done and certainly not crispy. We will give it another try and try something different. read more

I hate leaving a bad review because it seems like everyone else has had a good experience but my wife and I went in today thinking everything was going to be okay but we spent 44 dollars and noon e asked us how the food was and she got a southern skillet with a burnt bagel and the skillet was absolutely cold and I ordered the walleye all you can eat and I feel so sick to my stomach and the the fish had a very fishy smell to it and looking it up, a fishy smell indicates that there's a Bactria froth so the fish wasn't washed properly. We had the whole serving of biscuits and gravy and a plate of American fries. The biscuits were freshly made and very flakey. The gravy was very delicious. American fries were hot and golden brown. Service was friendly, fast, and very attentive. Highly recommend this place. read more

My husband and I love Grandview Restaurant. We stop for lunch during our drive from Cincinnati to Omaha, and sometimes also on the way back! I know exactly what I'm getting...good, hot food. The servers are very pleasant and work their tails off. I've never waited on service or a beverage refill. Order your fries crispy if you like them that way. I believe they offer a piece of cake on Sundays which is a nice touch. read more

This is an old school place, open since 1952, with a menu that probably hasn't changed much since then. We went for Sunday brunch and it was pretty crowded, full of locals. There's counter seating and a regular dining room. Service is terse, but friendly, and most people in the place seem to know the menu pretty well. We were in the mood for big breakfasts and that's what we got. Eggs, potatoes, bacon, ham, pancakes, and coffee that's never empty - real diner food. Today's special was the chicken fried chicken, which is a riff on chicken fried steak, which itself is a riff on fried chicken - got it? It certainly seemed confusing to the staff because I ordered chicken fried steak and got chicken fried chicken - the good part of all that was I got to eat both and both were really good. There's also lots of burgers and other sandwiches and daily specials that sound really good like Saturday night all you can eat fried chicken and Wednesday night all you can eat walleye. Anyhow, the service gaffe and failure to offer us dessert (Sunday is free dessert day) downgraded my review. read more

We stopped in on a saturday about 1 year from the first visit. I was done for the day on spoon river drive and thought we would visit again since we were so close. We had the same great waitress and i ordered the all you can eat chicken and ribs. I chose mashed potatoes and gravy for my side and they were both homemade which more places need to do instead of the instant crap. The side salad was very crisp and refreshing and a must have as a side in my opinion. The chicken was crunchy and the country style ribs were tender with great flavor but a little fatty. My friend had the pork tenderloin and onion rings with coleslaw. He said the slaw was better than KFC's. The tenderloin was just a frozen one but he said it was cooked well with a toasted bun. Best breakfast place in Galesburg--one of the few that serves all day. It's small and quaint and homely. The food is wonderful and the service fantastic- the waitresses are efficient and better yet, bawdy, sarcastic and sweet. As a Galesburg native I recommend a visit-- try their skillets! read more

This popular local place has delicious bbq beef lunch and tenderloin lunches with home made mashed potatoes (a substitution for potato salad) and tasty baked beans. A real hamburger made from fresh beef. Ickey-bread bun, but good burger. Hubby had a meatloaf special and it had onions, peppers, and was tasty. Looked like it was made in a home kitchen. All the waitresses say "Honey" and "Sweetie." Clean little diner for a quick meal. read more

Two stars is generous! Their fried chicken arrived in a pool of grease and tasted of grease that needed to be changed. It had absolutely no flavor and was so dry from over cooking that the white meat was impossible to eat. The salad came from a bag with a slice of tomato. I eat at Grandview more than any other restaurant in town. Love the food-never had anything I didn't like. Burgers are amazing-very thin greasy patties a la Steak N Shake but better.... love the huge salads. Best pancakes I have ever had. They will make you pretty much anything if you ask nicely. Love the waitresses. They are super efficient and fast even when the place is packed to capacity. The only reason I am going with a 4 instead of a 5 is that they raised the prices recently and it can get kind of cashy but still cheaper than other places. The best ranch dressing I have ever tasted and you have to try the fried cauliflower!!! If you are counting calories, you should probably drive on by! read more

This is the best diner-style place in Illinois, bar none. The staff is super friendly and the service was excellent. The place was very clean, it is obvious that the staff takes pride in the place where they work. The sign out front states "Home Cooking" and that is a fact; plus the portions are huge! The prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity that was served. My family and I will be making this our regular stop when we get back to Galesburg to visit. There was rumor the Guy Fieri was looking at West Central Illinois for a visit; if this rumor is true he has to make this a stop because it is that good. read more

Just got home from eating at Grandview Retaurant, the food, service and atmosphere were all great. We are seniors and had not eaten here in about 15 years. My husband highly recommends their ham, cheese and mushroom omelet and country potatoes. I just loved the potato salad. We studied the menu and will be going back. Also this is one of the cleanest small restaurants I have ever eaten in. It is so inviting. read more
