TL;DR Good: Project finished on time, good quality of work, helpful staff for tile selection Bad: Poor customer support, final cost way was $6000 off from initial estimate for a simple tiled shower, G&M rep scheduled the subcontractor without agreeing on a price, lack of communication during construction Long story: After seeing Granite & Marble's work at a friend's house, we decided to use them to rebuild a standing shower as we had a leak in the old one. G&M representative Jeremiah showed great attention to detail and was very patient in diagnosing the problem. He also spent a great deal of time helping us decide whether to go with a repair vs rebuild and also selecting the right type of tile. We got a ballpark estimate of $11,500 on the project. Even though that was a bit higher than the estimate from another contractor, we decided to proceed. We asked for a final estimate and requested the work be done in a month. That's when we got the first surprise on the final estimate of $17,500. This happened on a Friday afternoon. The new estimate was way over our budget and we didn't agree or sign any contract yet. On Saturday night, G&M rep starts texting my husband about how he lined up a subcontractor to do the work for us on Monday without agreeing on a price with us. He also told us he can't be reached all day Sunday as he was traveling. At this point, there were no contracts signed and we could have just walked away. But that didn't seem right to us after all the consultation the G&M rep did for us. The renewed estimate was still at $14,500 and we wanted to put the cost behind us and just wanted to be done with the project. Fortunately, the subcontractor's company did a good job and finished the work in a timely manner. The shower looks great and no leaks. Then comes the final bill. SURPRISE! SURPRISE!! The consumable material cost $1100 over the estimate given to us. We called the rep and he starts speaking in a very disrespectful tone as if he was the victim in this transaction. He should have contacted us when the subcontractor decided to buy some materials that were way over the estimate. Anyway, a great life lesson for my husband and I. Hiring a professional contractor doesn't always mean you get professional service. We talked to the owner Kurt who was very responsive and acknowledged the mistakes in miscommunication. read more

Awesome experience from start to finish! We heard about this place through the company remodeling our bathrooms. One of our vanity areas is an odd size so we had to find a cabinet that fit and order a custom-cut countertop. They came out each time to our home and laser fit each counter top to an exact fit. The second visit their installers arrived on time and were very professional. Stunning. I would not hesitate hiring Granite and Marble Specialties. My counters are breathtaking. Beyond my hopes and expectations. This project was small but complex due to the structure of my condo and I'm extremely picky and a perfectionist. Kurt and his team were amazing - they way exceeded my expectations. Pictures do not show the true depth and beauty of this stone and the precision of their work. The quality and attention to detail is above par - there are no seams and the pieces match up to a hair's width. My job was small in comparison to the projects his company is working on. We needed the edge of our granite counter in our kitchen to be sawed about 1/8" on both sides to allow for a wider range. They cut and polished the granite perfecly without damaging the cabinet in any way (even though it wouldn't have mattered, since it would have been hidden by the new range). They laid down drop cloths from the front door all the way to the kitchen, so that they could come and go from their truck without making any mess, and after completing the job perfectly, they left our kitchen cleaner than they found it. I needed to install a new counter top in a powder room where the counter is only 8 sq ft. Their remnant yard had exactly what I needed. They were able to come out and measure 2 days later and the install was only a week after I selected the material. The tech doing the measurement had a highly accurate laser measurement device which was great as the walls were not square. The installation team arrived on time and had the installation completed in under an hour. Supervisor communicated well and they cleaned up what little mess was made. Received a call a week later to confirm everything went well. and best of all the cost was under $800 using an artificial quartz type material. Very happy with the service. read more

I hired GMS based on their Yelp reviews to replace my kitchen countertops. Their rep came out and gave us a quote and showed us samples. It took several tries via phone and email to actually give them my money to get the process rolling. Communication was extremely poor throughout the process. The original install date had to be postponed because the slab had a crack in it. However, they never actually rescheduled the installation and I came home one day to find they had shown up unannounced and done the install. The sink they installed is garbage and I hate it. The bottom is completely flat so the water just pools instead of actually draining. All of that was frustrating, but then I received the final bill, which was inexplicably several hundred dollars higher than the estimate, with no explanation. After several attempts, I got the explanation that "the measurements changed during templating", but their own contract states that they cannot charge more than the estimate without customer approval, which they never sought (and wouldn't have obtained). In the end, I was unable to resolve anything working through them. I filed a dispute with my credit card company for the excess charges and won the dispute. I have *never* had to go that route before with a business. I considered, but only for a moment, having them do the backsplash, but considering how poor their communication was, I would not use them again. +1 star because I like the countertops. read more

I just got a phone call from Jeremiah at Granite & Marble Specialties. It was nice that they reacted to the yelp post. It turned out that they had a problem with their system which had lost my invoice/customer info. I had been frustrated as I had gone several weeks without a response. Jeremiah was willing to take care of the issue, but I had already fixed the problem myself by purchasing a different type of mount that in my opinion is sturdier to the ones used on their typical setups. Regardless, Granite & Marble Specialties stepped it up a notch by calling me on the phone. Nobody wants to make those types of phone calls. They owned up to the issue and were willing to make it work and even offered to cover the cost of what I spent to fix my cabinets. read more

I am extremely unhappy and frustrated. I ordered granite for a butlers pantry and washroom. I put a deposit down and waited for my final bill. It came 5 month later and $400 more than what I was expecting. Every time I emailed....crickets! And the accounting didn't reflect a credit I had coming. We were in the market for kitchen countertops we began our search from the obvious Pius, KT, the Asian locations which are known for cheap prices and horrible customer service. After an exhausting day of searching and being annoyed of 'out of stock' products on display or jacked up prices for quality material (MSI), with 2 restless toddlers, we were ready to call it a day. Out of desperation, I scouted Yelp and decided to give it one more shot to a location nearby with the best ratings and I'm so glad I did! As soon as I walked in, Selene greeted me with a warm smile and a 'ready to help' kinda attitude. Annoyed of the day, I tried not to make too much contact knowing I was there for a quick minute to scout their stock and get out. Not sure if it was Selene's charisma or her friendly pup, but something wheeled me in and I found myself chatting it up and Her handing me a quote within 5min of my arrival. As I saw her quote, I was immediately taken aback by the price. You see, all the 4-5 Asian countertop places we visited previously kept quoting me for 4 slabs, not bothering to take the time to do the math (each quote took about 30-40min to prepare, something Selene did in 5min!!) and figure out that we could comfortably complete our entire kitchen with just 3 slabs! Thus resulting in a price that didn't scare me away. I immediately had my husband and kids back out of the car asking questions and placing an order right on the spot. We came in on Thursday, they did the measurements Friday, counters were installed by Tuesday. Damn that turnaround surprised me. Selene is the best, she knows what she's doing and her confidence is so reassuring! When selecting the counter, she was very attentive and let me know which product would be best to use (based on pattern), seen that I would have a seam in my island. She advised me to choose a different product than I initially wanted and I couldn't be happier that I listened to her! I'm ready for my bathroom vanities and I feel confident that she's going to take care of me just as well. Girls got game. read more

Skip everyone else and get your countertops done here. They had the nicest and biggest showroom I've seen and the lowest responsible quotes for my kitchen update. Glenn was working the showroom on Saturday and took the time to show us different pieces and leftover pieces - being the most affordable installer was just icing on the cake. Home Depot and several others just were either too expensive or had negative reviews. It took four guys to bring up the 4' x 9' piece of Quartz up three flights of stairs and I'm glad they managed or we would've been left no option but to cut the big piece. No plumbing included so you have to get your own plumber. Everyone cares about their customer service in this company and it absolutely shows. My guess is you have or are planning to visit a slab yard, fancy show rooms and maybe to or have taken a trip to one of the "Chinese Owned Shops" in the Sodo....? Soundfamiliar? Let me save you a bunch of time - STOP & GO HERE! I spent 4 months kicking tires and educating myself as to what's what and who's who in the slab market. I've visited every (yes every) place in the area. The quality and price you're getting here is absolutely outstanding. I "saved" a bunch of money by coordinating our kitchen remodel and in turn, dealt with a ton of contractors. Kurt, Kressi and team were easily the most detailed and quality driven of everyone I have dealt with. Kressi did a beautiful job educating us as to all of our stone options and what to expect through the whole process. She was easy to contact and interact with through the whole process and really insured us that we were getting the best quality and price. Let me tell you that insurance she gave us was backed up, we got a killer deal! Kurt our sales guy, took time and really made us feel like our time and business was valuable. We really felt like we were the most important customers each time we were working with him. He's is very polite and quality driven. His attention to detail and follow up service really had us floored. He really made sure we were 110% happy from the time we were buying or slab, to the install and the warranty they offer. Our installers were insanely polite, asked permission sought approval during each move they made. They even ( i kid you not ) left my kitchen cleaner then when they came in to do the job. The work they did is really show room quality (Think Dwell.. Not Home Depot). Our seams are damn near invisible. the waterfall they did makes it look like we have a beautiful and continuous chunk of earth in our kitchen... Just insane. Granite & Marble Specialties business practices are absoultely unparalleled. You're doing yourself a huge disservice, throwing your money way to any other company in Seattle. They really secured a lifetime customer and will be using them again any time i need any related work! read more

We initially had placed our order through one of the big box stores and then after reading reviews of the disastrous experience through their sub contractor promptly cancelled it. For the same amount of money we were spending at the big box store, we managed to upgrade the quality of granite we chose and were so impressed with the promptness for installation and the updated appearance of our bathroom. I wish I could give Granite Marble Washington zero stars. It would be fitting because this business operates with zero communication, zero professionalism, and zero accountability. An absolutely awful experience from start to finish--if you can call an incomplete project finished. From the first moment I met her, I knew Stacey would be incompetent. I didn't realize I needed to babysit a grown woman though to make sure our project was done to the very basic standards that we had. I would not recommend using this company for anything. They do not answer calls or emails--when they do respond...they email the WRONG PERSON then call you in a panic when you don't answer their emails. Their management team also could care less when you call to try to sort out the issue. We were looking for a solution to the problem and after trying to get a hold of these people for a week, they said "we are really busy, you just have to wait like everyone else." WE WERE WAITING LONG ENOUGH! By the time we got a hold of them there was "nothing they could do" because the remnant of our piece was gone. If only we had, idk, called them earlier? Since I *have* to give one star, I will give the one star to the fabricator who cuts the piece because they cut a nice rectangle with another nice rectangle inside it for a sink. Bravo! read more

As this was a small project, he showed us the remnants they had onsite and we picked a piece of quartz that perfectly fit our needs in color and size. I am updating my review of this business. 4 years ago I had this company replaced my kitchen counter top with new quartz stone and the Undermount sink. Things went well, I have them a good 4 star rating. Fast forward 4 years later, just last week, the sink that this company installed for me fell off the counter top completely to my wife's horror. I had to hire a handyman to remount it for me. The handy man told me whoever installed it the first time did a terrible job. He didn't put enough silicone and didn't hang the sink correctly.
