Stopped here after the restaurant we wanted to go to in Riggins was no longer there. Decided to try this place after seeing reviews. We were not disappointed! Got eggs, sausage, their special potatoes (yum), and sourdough toast and coffee. Everything was so flavorful! You really wouldn't expect much just by looking at their building. It's hard to even notice while passing by through the tiny mountain town of New Meadows. Heading up Highway 95 to McCall, Granite Mountain Cafe sits to your left. If you're lucky enough to catch them during operating hours, GO! This small, women-owned cafe whips up some of the best breakfasts foods in Valley County. I take Highway 55 since I'm from Boise, so my husband and I totally agree that the drive down from McCall and back is worth it for this little diner. Their famous Full Topper (two homemade buttermilk biscuits topped with ham, cheddar cheese and scrambled eggs, smothered in country sausage gravy ($12.00/full order, $7.00 half) is not for the faint of heart. This monster is the perfect breakfast if you're spending the day at Brundage, hiking the West Mountains, or if you're just in the mood for some calories. I've never been able to finish an entire plate by myself, so if you have a small tummy like me, you may want to share or get the half order. Moving on, my absolute favorite menu item is the French Toast (served with one egg and choice of bacon or sausage links, $8.50). I kid you not this is the best damn French toast my very experienced taste buds have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Granite Mtn uses a very special, secret recipe for their batter that nearly brings life to the toast. It's unique, hard to describe, almost savory and sweet at the same time. Plus, the toast is HUGE. Like thiccccc. I recommend just the single piece to avoid over-eating because it's super easy to do that here. I'm absolutely in love with this hidden Idahoan gem! Please consider stopping by to support this local business and tip the very nice server well too! She was running the entire place (minus cooking of course) but you wouldn't even notice she was because she did an amazing job. Filled up our coffee 3 times and attended to us as needed. Thanks for existing, Granite Mtn, so I don't have to depend on Pancake House for breakfast. Oh almost forgot, if anyone reads this far, I also tried an Elderberry Croissant ($4.00) that was super yummy. We have stopped by here twice on hunting trips. This place has an outstanding breakfast, with generous portions, fresh food, great service and reasonable prices. I had the Saturday special, which was biscuits and gravy, with two eggs, and a choice of bacon or sausage. I had the sausage. The food was fresh, the biscuits were home made, and almost melted in your mouth. The gravy was fresh as well and delicious. I had coffee and the waitress kept it coming. If you are in the area and hungry for breakfast, stop on by, it's wonderful. read more

The family was really excited to eat here based on the reviews and the photos. However, the entire experience just fell flat. The hometown service was great and the waitress ensured the coffee was filled. The food however, was all cold. This was probably due to us having a larger group and the kitchen being very small (like one you would have at home). So maybe the food would be good if you came here as a small group who could get their meal coming right off the grill. I personally had the biscuits and gravy and the biscuits were very dry and the gravy was cold. Note the restaurant opens at 7 a.m. and we were there before 7:15 a.m., so the gravy should not be cold. I also had bacon which was cooked perfectly but it too was cold. The kids had pancakes and I don't know why, but they just tasted "off." They looked good, but did not taste good. A couple of other items that were just unexpected. One, they do not have soda so I had to settle for a $4 glass of lemonade. Two, they have a surcharge for using a credit card which while becoming more common place should probably be communicated at the door before you even enter the restaurant. I'm personally just not a fan of charging to accept credit cards as a form of payment. I would only suggest trying this place if you have one or two people and can get there when they are not busy. read more

I am usually a fairly generous reviewer but, this will be the exception...I even waited 24 hours to post so that I could sleep on it. While I certainly appreciate that there may be some impacts from COVID, the service at Granite Mountain Cafe was just not good and the menu not an accurate description of what was provided. Certainly not worth the drive over from McCall... It took just under an hour (50 minutes) to get our food...a simple veggie omelette and "The Topper". Both of the meals were less than impressive when they were finally served. "The Topper" was not as advertised. The ham "steak" that is on the menu...and what I was looking forward to...was nothing but two slices of deli ham that were so thin that I wouldn't have known they were there if I didn't look. That's just not right. If you list it...serve it. If you are out, then fine, let the customer know. But, don't cheap out on what you serve and still charge full price. As mentioned, I am usually a pretty "soft" reviewer and tend to vote places up. That said, we saw nothing here in terms of decor, food presentation, quality or service that would merit anything like a 5-star review or the raves that prior reviews have provided. In fact, after being a loyal Yelp user...all over the world...this is the FIRST time that we have been led astray by prior reviews and really disappointed in the entire experience. Granite Mtn. Cafe on this busy Sunday morning is not a restaurant I can recommend. It was packed and we were told it would probably be 30 minutes after we ordered until our meal arrived, no problem! I ordered the French toast special, 1 slice of egg challah bread with eggs and bacon or sausage, the French toast was so burned on the under side that I could not cut thru it, the eggs ordered over hard were runny with crispy edges and when re-made came out exactly the same! The other meal was edible. The server was friendly and came by to apologize for the eggs being prepared incorrectly, I didn't bother to tell her that the re-cook was also runny! Perhaps on a slower day things might be better but for my money it's over the hill and into McCall for a reliable breakfast at The Pancake House or one of the other restaurants. read more

Driving from Boise to Spokane, we decided to stop here for lunch. We sat down, and it took forever just for the waitress to make it to our table. We were a party of 5 and it took 1 hour 19 minutes and 23 seconds (I timed them of course) for our food to come. It wasn't even gourmet food. My sister ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. I could probably make that in about 5 minutes. I tried to flag the waitress down at one point because I didn't have a fork, but she was nowhere. I ended up just getting my own fork. The food was B-team, after all the waiting. If you want to waste your day just to get served mediocre food, feel free to stop by the Granite Mountain Cafe. read more

We were driving down from McCall and decided to stop here for a late breakfast. We had been here on last trip through and it was good. Entered behind a couple with a baby, they went to a table in the back, we took a table in front of the counter. Waitress took menus to the couple and ignored us. Another couple came in and sat at the table behind us (obviously locals). They immediately got greeted and menus, still nothing for us. Finally the waitress slapped menus on our table and stomped off ????!!!! We waited some more. All this time there is a family in the front dining room with kids SCREAMING at the top of their lungs. Not pleasant at ALL. We waited. The waitress took the order of the couple that came in after us, we waited. Finally I said to my partner that I had enough and we left. Oh there were 2 waitresses, but the 2nd one seemed confused about her duties so she gave up. We will not be back. read more

The cook was the only person in the cafe this morning. He was RUDE and a generally not helpful at all. We had to get our own coffee and when we asked for creamer he said "we don't have any" I asked for milk and in a smart remark kind of way was told "we don't have that either." That should have been the first sign! Breakfast took an hour and wasn't very good. We were told the cook/waiter was the owners son, he acted more like a waitress! I couldn't recommend this place any less.. It may be hard to fire family but...this kid isn't good for business! read more
