This place is a GEM! Crazy good southern food in McCall ID of all places?? I will say, with the exception of a cookie I have only had the Shrimp PoBoy here, I might have had the chowder before as well now that I think about it...but the Shrimp PoBoy is as good as anything I have had in LA, TX, AL...anything along the Gulf of Mexico and places between there and here! I have had a lot of PoorBoys, PoBoys, sandwiches of southern design regardless of how they spell them or pronounce them...and this one is spot on! To start with its on a really good roll, fresh with a nice crust and soft in the center! The fillings are fresh, well seasoned and the shrimp is perfectly fried and fresh as you can expect in the middle of ID, which is very fresh tasting! I have gotten it with the Tater Tots I think every time...fried potato products is my weakness I will admit and these are far better than most! Fresh, perfectly fried and crunchy! You do get a fair number of them, so pace yourself! I have been here in the middle of summer, spring, fall and now winter. This is my only stop for lunch...why would I go elsewhere! Great service, great drinks, local causal vibe. The shrimp po boy my hubby got was excellent! They know how to fry stuff! The chicken tender I had was moist and tender. Comfort food for all my friends! The reviews for Frenchie's aren't lying. If you want New Orleans style comfort food in a down to earth, comfy dining experience this is your place. We had the shrimp Po-boy with a side of Tots, as well as the fried chicken dinner plate. We thought we were just off bourbon street in the French quarter. The Po-boy reminded me of the shrimp Po-boys at Parkway in NOLA (ya, they're that good!). The chef used to work in NOLA for 13+ years, so he KNOWS how to fry! He also knows the taste and flavor. The shrimp po-boy was simply outstanding! The fried chicken dinner was equally as noteworthy with the batter very light and crispy. The chicken breasts were tender and juicy. The Mac and cheese and green beans were excellent as well. Be aware though, this is a very big plate of food! More than we could certainly eat. All said, you don't want to miss Frenchie's in third. The staff is super friendly and very welcoming. Unfortunate the food was a big disappointment. I ordered the fried chicken and noticed it arrived really fast and wasn't hot. I'm guessing by the dry chicken and the tuff texture it was sitting under a really weak heat lamp for a while. The white cheddar Mack saved was really good so I didn't have to choke down the majority of the chicken. Sorry for the low review , but I've had better fried chicken at a trick stop. Was lured in by Frenchie's high Yelp ratings. But fail to understand the hype. Some nice outdoor seating but interior has a cold cafeteria feel. Not helped by you place your order at the bar and there is a pour your own fountain drink machine. We ordered the Shrimp Po Boy and Chicken Sandwich. The bread was so gummy on both our sandwiches we ended up not eating it. The coating on the shrimp was thin so not crunchy and that sandwich was dry, dry, dry. What can I say about Frenchie's? No matter the words on paper, I don't think I can capture the experience. The staff is one of the friendliest, happiest I've ever experienced. No matter the ask, the servers, cashier, and manager were happily attentive to all diners' needs! I opted for 'comfort' meal, and it was an amazing decision. Let's start with the pot roast dinner. It reminded me of the most delicious home cooked pot roast. The meat was tender and the potatoes and green beans were cooked to perfection. My favorite was a bite full of each. After dinner, the staff brought out my dessert, the white chocolate peach bread pudding. I have a love for bread pudding so I'm also a tough critic. This was definitely a well executed pudding! The moisture level, sweetness, and fluffiness were terrific. The kitchen also knew the combo of white chocolate and peach would trend on the sweet side, so paired the dessert with heavy cream on the side. Fun place for food. Parking out front was easy. There is a set of stairs to get to the place so if you can't do stairs this place is not for you. We went in around 11:30 on a Thursday afternoon and there were 1-2 other tables. You walk to the cashier to order then sit where you want. The cashier was very pleasant and helpful. Reasonable prices. Not a traditional sit down because of the fact you aren't really served. You grab your own drinks and such. The decor is done to look like New Orleans with colorful green and purple and gold. We had one order of Shrimp PO Boy which had loads of shrimp and was super tasty. I had the Chicken Fry with fries and slaw. Man, it was super tender and delicious. The slaw is homemade in house and you can tell. It has a zing at the end ! Fries I think are store bought be still good. Sauces were very good as well. Cashier came around checking on us several times. On a weekend get away trip to McCall we found this place on yes you guessed it Yelp! I saw all the great reviews and knew we needed to try this place out. Just minutes walking distance from our Airbnb we headed over last night for some dinner. I am not sure if we struck gold but we hit this place at the right time and got to order our food right away because in the next 15 minutes this place filled up quick. It has a great atmosphere both inside and out with plenty of seating in both. You order from a counter and they bring it to your table. For dinner I had the fried chicken po boy with fries, cup of the gumbo and have to say while not a huge fan of fried chicken the reviews on this dish had me wanting to try. This sandwich did not disappoint at all! Perfectly cooked chicken and super moist lousy the slaw and sauce they put on the chicken is amazing! The gumbo OMG delicious!!! This could hold itself at any New Orleans establishment! It was full of great flavors and packed with sausage! My wife had the fried chicken dinner with mac n cheese and green beans. She loved it as well and said it was perfectly executed. The staff here is awesome and everyone we encountered was really great! They made you feel very welcome and attentive the whole time. Hospitality mixed with damn good food. In just three short visits, the staff at Frenchie's feels like family. Throw in a great view of the trees with outdoor seating and this place is just about perfect. We don't miss a trip (or two) to Frenchie's whenever we're in McCall. You could even say we find excuses to come up here just to eat here and chat with everyone! They are closed weekends, but I'm glad they are. We lived in New Orleans for many years and were so excited to try Frenchie's and get Poboy sandwiches. Frenchie's was outstanding and amazing. The shrimp Po boy was delicious and the fries were delicious and full of taste. Our friends ordered the Gyro and it was also awesome. We took home their daily bread pudding and wow.
