I received one referral and worked with that firm in 2023, but the relationship was strained and ultimately not the right fit for us. I continued searching, and after referrals from friends led nowhere, a Google search brought me to Jim. He had just reopened his practice, so there were only a few Google reviews at the time--but they were all five stars. I then researched Jim's CPA background in California, where his reviews were also consistently excellent. After our first conversation, I felt immediately at ease. Jim explained that he had moved to Prescott to retire, but after finding retirement a bit too quiet, he decided to reopen his practice. Fortunately for us, we found him before he stopped taking new clients again. Our first two tax years working with Jim were straightforward, but the coming year will be far more complex. They provide dates to submit your return info online then extend you anyways despite meeting those deadlines and expect you to pay for the extensions even though you did your part correctly. They've missed some significant deductions the past few years and are generally not very thorough. There is a serious lack of professionalism and duty to their clients.
