The food is reasonably priced and there are plate specials for the buffet. I've come to this location twice. It's decent down home cooking.... but it's not true southern cooking if you catch my drift. The fried chicken & fried fish hit the spot. The chicken & dumpling when eaten with the bread... is it potato bread? My goodness. Aside from the roasted potatoes, everything else tastes canned which is unfortunate. I didn't go near the greens as they aren't what I'm used to. The banana pudding is homemade (with homemade custard... just like God intended) however, it's not constructed while hot or baked so, it's decent but it's not what I'm used to. I have always enjoyed going to Granny Cantrells, BUT and that is a BIG BUTT, things have changed within the last two months. There has been a change and for me and a number of others, it is not for the best. The vegetables are too salty, one of my friends swears that you can find the box of salt in them. On Thursday, the rutabagas are not cooked tender and are often spiced with a hot spice. The dressing has changed and it is often too thin in the pan and does not have the taste of Southern styled dressing. The turkey gravy has become the biggest disappointment - it looks like crap and it tastes about as bad. The turkey gravy before was appealing in color and had the best taste, but those days are definitely gone. People have complained but it so far it has done no good. There are a number of ways that this restaurant could improve, but it appears that they are happy with sliding downwards. The waitresses really try to serve the customers and they are really good at their job. They take customer complaints and we've heard that they share with management, but nothing good happens. The place needs to change out their dessert offerings - it is the same old dishes day in and day out. Here's hoping that this review will get somebody's attention because so many of the used to be regulars are heading down to Golden Corral. read more

Iv been forgetting to give granny's a review....honestly it's pretty darn good! The best rolls around and the green beans and collard greens are insanely good. I was pretty shocked that it was that good. A lot better than some places in Pcb. The Fried chicken was tasty and yea there were things that were just ok but it's a buffet. The Quality was better than golden buffet and most places it grew on me for sure. Would happily come back ! read more

This is the sweetest restaurant with good southern cooking. They are consistently kind and have a heart to support our veterans. This was our first trip. We came for breakfast and took our Grandsons. The Hostess and our server were very friendly and helpful. There is a train on a track suspended from the ceiling and lots of train memorabilia. The food was good country cooking with an ample variety and they offer a Military discount. Just watch out for Lisa-the-grouch on the serving line. We will definitely be back. read more

I personally wouldn't eat here again . The place needs to be cleaned and redid . The inside is old and dirty and the bowls were even wet . It's just truly sad they don't clean the place good for being a restaurant. I do not recommend this at all . read more

Country buffet with a friendly staff and many customers seemed to be regulars. Apparently today was seafood day, which was fine with me but my dad prefers the other days he said. My favorite things were the Hoe Rolls (which was like a huge hush puppy) and the seafood soup. Left full! read more

3 of us had dinner there tonight, I will say it was one of the WORST meals I have ever eaten, was there at 6pm, food looked like it had been sitting out since lunch, and they just kept added to it, the hoe cakes were so full of grease, I set one down on a folded paper napkin and the grease went all the way through it, Mac and cheese was so try you almost had to cut it with a knife, had these paper thin pork chops that were so tough, I don't even think my dog could chew them. I have never seen brown mashed pot. you could tell they were sitting there for a while. and when we told the cashier she just looked at us like we were crazy. there ads keep saying everything is made fresh and not out of a can, well next time I am up for a buffet I will cross the street to that other place. would never step foot back in the place or recommend to any of my friends. read more

I like the idea of Granny Cantrells. That's where it ends. Thought I would give it another shot. 12:20 pm, still quite a few empty tables for lunch. So I was able to sit right away. After a couple minutes I'm looking around, hoping service would come. I notice I'm not the only one looking around. The existing customers are looking too, with their empty glasses in hand. A few more minutes go by and other people are beginning to sit too. I finally give up waiting and lay my hat,upside down, on the table. To mark it. I grab a plate and walk around the buffet, twice. Looked very unappealing. This has got to be thee worst place for caring about service or the quality they put in the buffet. You would get better service from an unattended Schwan's truck then you would here. Save your money. I give up on them read more

No don't do it! Trust me! Nastiest place that I have ever been to. It is a disgrace! Prison food would probably be better than this. Mac and cheese was so dried up that you literally had to cut it out of the pan. Granny must have went to the nursing home because this place was not good by any stretch of the imagination. read more

I have lived in Bay County for over 5 years. I have seen and heard about Granny Cantrell's but never thought to stop. Boy have I been missing out! I went by today to grab a to-go plate, but when I walked in and saw the buffet, I grabbed me a seat instead. After two full plates and two desserts, I was unbuckling the button on my jeans. Sad part is, I didn't get to try everything! There were so many options and literally everything that I tried just melted like heavenly goodness in my mouth. Highly recommend! First visit to Granny's place. If you're looking for a nice buffet, here it is. Just waiting on the cornbread to come out. Today I had the veggie plate which allowed me to choose five veggies from the hot bar. Plus bread and iced tea. All for $6.95. I can't buy it and cook it for that. Lots of seniors in today, so you know it must be good...and a good deal. The wait staff was very attentive ensuring your satisfaction and keeping those drink glasses filled. When in Panama City or the beach, ride over to 23rd and check this place out. By the way, I didn't try any, but the cakes and other desserts look great. Tall three layer cakes...eying a coconut cake now just calling my name, but I'll resist today. For that down home southern cooking, this is the place. I'll be back!! Enjoy!! read more

We were originally looking for Po Folks but found out it was destroyed by Hurricane Michael. We found this on Yelp and decided to try it. Really wanted to find a southern cooking replacement. We got the blue plate special which was 1 meat (2 pieces), 2 sides and bread for $6.95. We both had the fried chicken which there way hardly any meat on either piece (breast and thigh) and way too salty. The mashed potatoes are homemade with the skins and were good. The macaroni and cheese was a globby mess and was awful. It appeared to have scrambled eggs in them to thicken them. The roll was exceptional!! I wish I would've had an entire plate of the rolls! My husband wasn't thrilled with the hoecake. It said it was fried cornbread but it tasted just like a hushpuppy with onion taste. Great service, decent coffee, and good food. Cooks just can't get the food right. Asked for egg over easy to go on top of my trash hash. 4 eggs later, they got it right. The hash was ok. Potatoes were fried more than I would of liked them. Border line burnt on the edges, the peppers & onions were still on the uncooked side, but it was eatable. I can't remember exactly, but I think it has been about 7 or 8 months since we ate at Granny Cantrell's. They have a model train set that runs a track near the ceiling that keeps the kids mesmerized. We're big fans of their breakfast buffet. Very reasonably priced/inexpensive, and a nice variety of items including Tomato Gravy (yum!). I don't think they have the breakfast buffet every day, so you might want to call ahead to find out. They also have a breakfast menu from which you can order. We went back at a different time for their lunch buffet... This was a completely different story. The buffet is not large to begin with (think: 1 side of the buffet at Golden Corral), but 50% of the items were some sort of bean! I had never seen so many different types of beans on one buffet in my life. Don't get me wrong, being a true southern girl, I really like beans, but this was way over the top. To make matters worse, the other half of the items on the menu were fried. (i have lots of stomach issues... so this was not helping.) They did have a small salad bar, but they were again lacking in the "variety department." Anyway, we will not be returning for the lunch buffet for quite some time. I'm hoping that their buffet features much more variety now. I would have given them 4 stars if the lunch buffet wasn't so terrible on our visit. The breakfast buffet is worth a try! read more

Food is great, tables are dirty, employees however tend to maintain a "locals only" mentality and the server took about 20 minutes to acknowledge my glass was empty. I patiently waited and when they finally offer a refill, they seemed anxious to write the check. If you aren't a cop or a firefighter or someone highly respected in Bay County born and raised don't expect service and friendliness. Also breakfast buffet only on Saturdays. The food here is pretty good. The baked chicken was so very overseasoned, though. It was majorly coated with seasonings, really thick, and sitting in a lot of juice which, unfortunately, didn't wash off any of the goopy seasoning layer. It was the first baked chicken I have ever had that I didn't like. My friend that went with me to lunch didn't like it either. I loved this place! We were looking for some authentic southern food and that exactly what we had. Being a buffet I did go in with high expectations but man did I have a awesome surprise. I have to say some of the BEST fried chicken that I've ever had. Plus all the sides just knocked me out. Not to mention the home made everything. I could've spent the whole day there just eating. My wife and I ate here today. We both got the blue plate special. I had the fried chicken, turnip greens and green beans, a roll and a piece of pecan pie. My food was very tasty. My wife got mac n cheese, Lima beans, corn, spaghetti and a roll. She also had a piece of the layer vanilla cake. She indicated her meal was very good.
