Not very consistent. Had a piece of fried chicken. It was bland. Second batch came out and the tried another piece. Much better flavor. Mac and cheese was the same way. First batch was great! I can't fully describe my disappointment with this "restaurant". Just get canned food, it tastes better, and you'll save yourself the time and money. How they can call this home cooked is beyond me. They either don't have seasoning or nobody knows how to cook. I've never had worse fried green tomatoes in my life. They were doughy and tasted like pure pepper. Nothing else. There was no saving them. Bad food all around. The place was surprisingly small. If you're claustrophobic you're in for a bad time. The bar is really cramped and shoved in there yet still somehow small and limited. I ended up eating white rice and brown gravy as a last resort. The rice was poorly cooked, but edible and I didnt have to go home hungry. I'd reccomend just about anywhere else or just going home. Trust me you'll have a better time. read more

We were coming in for our yearly trip to Panama City and since this is our second year, we asked for a suggestion at a local store we shopped at. She suggested Granny Cantrell's so we went and were very satisfied by the freshness of the food, warm atmosphere, and exceptional guest service. Our waitress was Pam and she gave outstanding service that made you feel right at home!! As a matter of fact... we went back two days later to eat there again...it was that good!! Best pecan pie EVER!!! do you hear me... BEST PECAN PIE EVER!!! It's a strip mall gem. They also sell their desserts by the pound- holy cow.... Comment from one of the gray hairs (67+ relatives)- " I think they put some sleeping pills in that food; I need a nap". That's a compliment of the best kind.. Can't speak on the quality of the food on this trip as we decided not to eat due to the increased pricing. In the past, the food was ok for buffet food. We were shocked that the price went up to 13.50 for the normal buffet lunch. After tax and tip that would be around 35.00 for two lunches, close to 40.00 with beverages. I get it. Prices rise. At what point does it stop being worth? We ended up getting 2 awesome Publix subs from the deli on the way home. Under 13.00 for both with leftovers. If you plan on eating a ton of food it may be worth it to you read more

Im glad I decided to give them a try. It was excellent southern food for the right price. The fried chicken was spot on. Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were really good. Green beans was great and the corn and stuffing were good. At first I was on the impression they dones have enought food options at their buffet but trust theres plenty of comfort food. Wish I could have eat more but i had to throw the towel and get a sample of their cakes I had the chocolate, the blueberry and the carrot cake. And the carrot cake was delicioua the other were good but not as good as the carrot cake. Service was outstanding they make you feel right at home! read more

The decor would be cute if it was clean and a little updated, but as it is, its drab and a bit run down looking. The food quality is not the best either. I ordered french toast, it was burnt and underwhelming. The bacon was also over cooked and the grits were soupy. My husband ordered the combination omelet, also burnt, and the ham inside was low quality. In his words "its like cheep processed lunch meat chopped up". The service was also extreamly lacking, no refills or even a check back to see if we needed something. I do not recommend this place. read more

Great southern food, especially if you have had your fill of fish and shrimp. This is the best fried chicken in Panama City. The country style veggies are cooked with that southern mama's love. The locals make this place a little special too. It's not full of vacation renters fighting for every piece of food. Try the banana pudding! read more

Price is very low for seniors, but quality is equally as low. My fork wasn't clean, had to swap it out. Food had obviously been in the steam trays for far too long, serving utensils were nasty, and everything was soooo salty. Corn and green beans were obviously from a can, potatoes were gummy. Only bright spot was out waitress, very nice and attentive. Too many other options in the area. Never again. read more

Delicious food! Lots of selection. Definitely southern cooking but with a gulf flair (fried clams, fish, deviled crab). Fried chicken and gumbo were favorites. The desert selection was fantastic, 3 kinds of cakes, cherry cheesecake, peach cobbler, banana pudding and more. All that, and the prices were reasonable... and our kids ate free. I ate lunch there today. I had not eaten there for a few years. Lots of ads on radio and good reviews here. It is much cleaner and brighter than I remember, most likely due to Hurricane Michael. The ads talk about all you can eat and $1.00 less than I assume the Golden Corral. You get your choice of 3 plates. The red is 8 and change You do not get a salad, soup or any bowl and 1 trip thru the line. The blue plate gets you 1 trip thru the line, 1 serving of meat which is 2 pieces, veggies and some other stuff but it is hard to read the sign The white gets you all you can eat for 10.95. The fried chicken was good as were the livers and gizzards (yes I like them). The white gravy comes from a can as do the vegetables. The salad bar was fair but messy and no one cleans up the serving area. Lots of beans on the line, and at least 3 kinds of potatoes. The cakes and cobblers look home made. Also, they don't give senior discounts. read more

Buffet selection never changes, the food is always cool, not even warm. Regardless of what day or time, we've gone there and seating is seat yourself. However it can take 10-15 minutes before they take your drink order. For the cost, cold food, and lack of different selections it is not worth the cost of this small buffet. Come for breakfast, stay for lunch...it'll take that long for your food to arrive. Ordered a breakfast combo. Grits were very nicely cooked, steaming hot and creamy. Sausage patties were thin, over cooked to the point of being hard and totally dried out. Eggs were raw on top. The cashier said that's what you get when you order sunny side up. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean. The grits were a little salty and there was not a great deal of food choices on the buffet. I have eaten Granny Cantrell's on several occasions. I don't live in Panama City anymore but was there over the holidays and thought I would give them a review. They have great fried chicken and country fried steak. They also have some awesome fried corn bread thing. Lots of vegetables to choose from, mainly beans, but they all taste great. There is a small salad bar that is okay, not the best, but okay. The staff has always been good to me, no problems there. Locally owned and I prefer to eat at restaurants that are...I have met the owner on several occasions when in there and he has always been really friendly. I highly recommend Granny's when you are wanting some Paula Dean style cooking. Very tasty food that you can tell was cooked in house and not just warmed up after being trucked in frozen. read more

If you're looking for great country food at a great value, this is the place for you. Granny Cantrell's has been a staple of mine since I moved to the area, and I'm really happy I found it. This is good, simple food, so don't expect a "fine" dining experience. I like the atmosphere with the model trains running overhead, and the food is right up my alley. I will say a word of caution, not everyone will find the food to die for, it isn't really for delicate pallets. Some probably would call themselves a regular if they visited as much as I have over the last 12 or 13 years. Being southern born the food fits well with my food as a child and it is pretty close to that ideal. I can usually find something that works for me most times I visit. There are few surprises except with their soups that are always very good and change often, much better than the other two places nearby so I was very comfortable being a customer. Something if you are a senior is their special deals in the afternoons and everyday they are open so you should check them out, many have told me it allows a live alone senior or couple a chance at a good variety of food that may be less than you can prepare at home plus it isn't unusual to see customers and staff greet with a pat on the back or a hug so socialization for those that need it is often available something many value as much as the food and generally the staff is friendly and attentive. For me, well I made a tragic mistake, strange as it may seem, I was seen as too nice and my kindness got me labeled as a bad person so as good as I always felt my visits were and the socialization being much better than some other places my visits will be much less often than in the past and very probably not any time soon. A word of caution be nice but not too kind because that kindness can be seen as bad to those that desire to see it that way. read more

We walked in and the person at the register said to sit anywhere. We sat down and waited for a few minutes. Another group came in behind us and sat down. They were asked what they wanted to drink and proceed to go to the Buffett. My husband got up and went over to the person at the register and asked if we should just go get a plate. She said yes. So we walked over to the buffet and there were 3 colors of plates with each color being a different price. It was very confusing and no one really seemed to want to assist us or even take our drink order. Very unprofessional and unpleasant experience. Children unattended at the buffet. Normally, this is a fair place for breakfast, but yesterday something happened that completely put me off my feed. The cashier (who isn't the quietest mouse in the cupboard) was explaining her "misery's" to her friend in loud and painful detail.
